I've been threatening to make a blog dedicated to the lotr cast and production team probably since 2003, so here's me following through.

Legal issues with the Tolkien Estate aside, you couldn’t remake LOTR anyway. Why? Because of the theme music. Yeah. Like what are you going to do? “Yes, we need a score that lives up to Howard Shore’s Lord of The Rings, or is at least cool enough to, y’know, do it’s own thing.” Like, you can’t. You just straight up can’t. Go ahead and remake Star Wars with different music why don’t you. You’re hearing the Fellowship theme in your head right now, aren’t you? You know you are. It’s that powerful. What can you do? Nothing. That’s it. That’s Lord of The Rings. Goodbye.
PHILIPPA BOYENS: I heard him sing the Scottish national anthem at Elijah’s thanksgiving party in Queenstown, and I thought wow that’s a good voice, but then when I heard him doing “Delilah,” I thought wow this guy can really sing.
BILLY BOYD: Pete asked me if I could write something. And I said, yeah, well, you know I’ll have a go. And they gave what they wanted the words to be, which is a poem from The Fellowship.
JOHN NOBLE: He came on the set that day and no one had heard it. And then he opened his mouth, and this glorious thing came out.
BILLY BOYD: And we got to record that at Abbey Road Studios in London. That was just a huge highlight, huge highlight of my career.
Farewell Reel LOTR. Found this the other day going through the cupboards. Brought back so many great memories . Beautiful days. 🖤⚔️🙏🌍 miss you NZ miss you fellowship
ELIJAH: A lot of practice for sword fighting for me for this sequence [Weathertop] and I don't think there's any sword fighting.
SEAN A: You dropped the sword the first time you got a chance to use it.
ELIJAH: I swear, there were weeks and weeks of practice.
So anyway Christopher Tolkien literally took 70 boxes of his father’s disorganised notes and spent his whole life turning them into something that could be read, appreciated, studied and loved. Words can’t express how much this man did for everyone to whom Tolkien’s work means something…thank you so much, Christopher. Safe journey to the white shores under a swift sunrise.
Peter: It was my spear that I threw, you see, It actually killed some very vitally important Uruk-hai commander, and the Uruks, basically, lose their way and from that point on there’s really no hope that they’re going to win.
Peter: And we just have to edit the film in a way that looks like Viggo’s doing it, of course – you know, Aragorn’s doing it – but it really is a whole… There’s –. The truth lies behind the scenes, and it really starts with that spear that I threw.
