I would love to ramble about Marius!

He's based on Marius von Raum from the Mechanisms. Little context you need: they're a band of immortal space pirates and each one of then has a mechanical part of their body that makes them immortal. Marius' is his right arm

There's currently no canon backstory for him other than being from a mecha war torn planet so my Marius has his own. Marius is one of the 3 members that was mechanised before joining the crew. He and another crew member (Raphaella) are from the same planet. He grew up very poor in a famine and was a soldier. His arm was torn off in a battle in which he was the only survivor. He only survived because Raphaella (already mechanised at this point) pulled him from the rubble (she wanted to use him as a human science subject)

Raphaella can't mechanise people herself but at the time she was working for someone who could and she had them make a mechanism arm for Marius so she could watch the process when it wasn't being done on her and maybe keep him around after. Both their mechanisms can be a bit janky and need repairs sometimes since they are made from scrap mecha parts and we're installed in an abandoned warehouse not a lab

He and Raphaella joined the crew just because they were happy to find other people with mechanisms (and the captain at the time was a scientist and Raphaella was very enthusiastic to learn from her). Marius treated it like a game and quickly declared himself the "ship's doctor" knowing full well the crew don't need a doctor, they already have 2 actual doctors on board if they did, and that he has zero medical experience or knowledge. He also refers to himself as a Baron which, as seen by his poor upbringing, is also wildly untrue

He enjoys badly psychoanalysing people and his goal in life is to commit medical malpractice on every planet he visits /hj

He's also possibly in a poly relationship with the rest of the crew?? It's hard to tell. Sometimes they act like it (other times they shoot each other in the head for making a bad joke) but they will never ever directly refer to each other as partners unless they're playing a bit
