So I had to go to Greece last year because of a wedding, it was unexpected and I wasn’t sure about it at first, but I honestly fell in love? Not with the islands, they’re cool I get it, but it’s too… fancy. I loved Athens though, like the city proper. It reminded us of the cluttered towns you see in china, japan, SEA, the neighborhoods you see that have buildings a handful of stories tall, start white and beige, the electric wires crossing everywhere, but placed in a hilly region that reminded me a little of the Central Valley, in Phoenix? Kinda like taking a small piece of NYC, switching up the architecture style, and placing it in an arid scrubby region, I love it a lot. It was so much more arid than I knew!! So many desert plants, they have tortoises just roaming the city streets and I’m in love with every one of them.

ANYWAY, I picked up a little Greek while I was there and I decided to keep going with it, I didn’t expect to fall in love with the language. It sounds like a perfect combination of English and Spanish/Italian, which makes sense, it’s old as heck and so much was adopted from the ancient version that still persists today. And yet it sounds NOTHING like any language I’ve ever heard. Conjugation rules are similar to Spanish though, so there’s a lot of grammar tricks from there that I’ve been able to apply to learning Greek, I don’t want to say it’s easy exactly, but also… it is? In a way? They also use diminutives for EVERYTHING, it’s very cute.

If anyone ELSE is interested, r/Greek has fantastic resources. My method has been Duolingo for repetitive practice, but Language Transfer (link below) for actual grammar lessons. Duolingo doesn’t do shit for grammar, so PLEASE don’t rely on just that for ANY language. It’s so important that you supplement your learning with additional sources, so read children’s books when you can, especially if you know the story already in English. Disney recently added SO MANY dubbed languages to their movies — Sleeping Beauty & Hercules both have Greek, and it’s so much fun to hear the other actors!

Testing out watercolor styles/techniques for future merch/colored comic pages! Lot went wrong, but here's a decent shot of one of the better tests~

Learning a lot, for example: dip pens don't wanna draw over dried paint. I guess that makes sense, since the paper has already absorbed water from the paint, so theres not much more room for the ink itself, causing it to spread more than I'd like...

Hello!

It's been quite some time, and this account hasn't been very active lately, so I wanted to give you guys an update on what's going on:

My partner & I have been working on an outline for our debut comic, Bite Your Tongue, since last September. We've gotten a lot sorted out re: plot, characters, etc, but there's still more to do before we can really start production on it. You can follow @rainydayatelier for updates and release details!

In the meantime, we're working on a Legend of Zelda fancomic we're currently calling Departure. We have the first 5 pages inked, and up to chapter 3 written and ready to be drawn. Here's a little sneak peek of chapter 1:

We're having a ton of fun with this little fan story, but it's also helping us get used to the new workflow & styles that my partner and I are testing out for Bite Your Tongue. There's gonna be some trial and error as we learn what works and what doesn't, what needs more detail and what can be simplified.

More information and comic pages will be posted on @loz-departure-comic, but I will also post an update notice on this blog, too.

I plan on streaming while I work on these comics (once I settle into a solid routine), so come by if you wanna watch me draw/ink comics! My partner and I will also occasionally stream games we might be playing here and there.

Hey there! So I'm starting to work on merch to ideally sell at cons, or at least online. I'm gonna have a variety of stuff from some of the games and shows I like, but I'd like to include one or two Darker than BLACK items for the 6 of us still out there. So:

I got a root canal like 2 years ago, but due to complications I couldn't get the permanent crown placed on it, so I've just been chuggin along with the temporary crown this *whole* time. Incredibly, it didn't fall out even once, so that's great!!

I had the appt finally to get the permanent one in this morning, and we were all unsure if it would work bc 2 years is a long time. We didn't know if it would still fit, if we'd have to remake it, etc. But it fit!!!!! We didn't have to do anything extra!!!!

I can finally stop worrying about the crown getting torn out by food or falling into my mouth while I sleep

So the way I've been working on comic pages is:

thumbnails for whole chapter

bigger thumbnails (layouts) for whole chapter

draw panels & bubbles on manuscript paper for whole chapter so I know where drawings need to go

draw pencils for a given page on copy paper

Ink pencils for that page on manuscript paper

Tone & letter that page

Repeat for each page

I made myself a template so I could place it under my paper and know where the edges of my panels had to go so that when I scanned the finished page into CSP, everything would just align.

So ive finished my layouts, and I spent some time the other day drawing out all my panel borders & bubbles so i could start pencilling pages.

I penciled pages 1-3, inked & toned page 1, and then realized today... the template I made was wrong. It won't work for any printer at the comic size we want.

Had to spend all evening trying to math out the new *correct* size to make my template, and now the panels (and drawings that'll go in em) are all the wrong size.

Gonna redo all the panels tomorrow, then, I guess. And most likely the speech bubbles, too. The new template is taller than what I was using, so allllllll of the panels I planned out in thumbs/layouts are like... they're just wrong now.

If the constructs had to remove Link's armor, tunic, pants, and shoes because of his interaction with the gloom, I have absolutely no reason to believe they wouldn't have also taken his underwear. Like I know, I know, kids game so he's gotta have panties, but I know in my heart of hearts that man would have been *nude* had they been allowed to show that.

I'm just sayin, my boy's runnin around the sky island absolutely commando under that tunic

Spent the weekend making this cool dice box with my partner. It was my first time staining wood, or painting on it, but it was a ton of fun.

I’d like to get a better clasp that wont pop open for it later on, but over all I’m super happy with how it turned out!
