It was a fun challenge to create a design for the cover that looked like a distinctive book while also matching the look of Deephaven, developing the overall series look. Big thanks to the book's designer Molly Fehr for the type and title design!
Scrimshaw will be on shelves this September, and you can support the series by preordering (or picking up the first book) now!
Those original watercolor pages look absolutely gorgeous and full of life! I preordered the book, and I'm really looking forward to reading it ^^
Thank you so much, that means a lot!
Preorders do a lot to help a book succeed by showing booksellers and librarians that there is interest, and by giving books a better chance at debuting on bestseller lists (which increase their visibility even more). That's why I'm so, so grateful to everyone that preorders a copy of my books, it means the world.
Is illustrating graphic novels your full time job or is it just part-time? something you do at the side
I write and illustrate books full time, both graphic novels and prose novels! I'm usually working on 2-3 projects in different stages at once, which helps keep things interesting and also keeps the rent paid.
Before going full time as an author/illustrator I had several jobs, including:
The Pale Queen is a queer dark fantasy graphic novel. It will be on shelves this June, you can support the book by reserving your copy now wherever you get books!
I'm thrilled to reveal the cover for SCRIMSHAW, my new gothic horror novel and the next Deephaven Mystery!
Guinevere "Nev" Tallow and Danny Harper discover an old skull with prophecies of doom etched into its teeth. As the predictions start to come true, the friends must race against time to unravel the secret behind the sinister origins of the skull before it's too late.
The illustrated mystery lands on shelves this September, reserve your copy now at your local bookstore!

I typically use Holbein watercolors! They're not super cheap, but not super expensive either. The colors stay nice and vivid and I find it paints on very smooth. I've used them to paint my last two graphic novels.
My author copies of The Pale Queen have arrived! The book looks stunning and the colors are so vivid! It's always an incredible feeling to hold a book I made for the first time.
The Pale Queen is on shelves this June. If you like the sound of a queer dark fairy tale about dangerous bargains, old myths, new love, and at least one weird little guy, please preorder wherever you get books!
Based on my illustrated gothic horror series, the Deephaven Mysteries! The first book is on shelves now, with a new mystery coming this September that you can preorder wherever you get books!

I've needed an updated one for awhile, and this portrait turned out suitability mysterious to go on the back of all the gothic books I've got coming out.
And of course, here's the final with text! Preordering books you're interested in is one of the best times to help it land on bestseller lists, in library collections, and on bookstore shelves. Support the book (and me!) by reserving your copy now! http://linktr.ee/thepalequeen
