Slow going here and still fighting art block and the energy to keep working on this.

Time Lapse
Lately I've been struggling with what every artist inevitably faces, "artist's block." In the past I've let it get to me and cause months to years of without picking up a pencil. I'm doing my best to fight through it and keep creating, even if I'm not excited about it, and even if it means focusing on simpler concepts.聽

Slowly working on this as a fallback when I hit a wall with other projects. Also, chameleons are the most disapproving creatures I've ever seen.

It's a tricky thing,聽
repairing what's broken out of necessity.
Feeling dismantled and small,
forming a patchwork of jagged nerves,
compelling an interchange of wounds to wrap into a shell.
Cracks remain as derivatives of trauma.
Can't muddle it away.
Can't mold into something else.
Not hopeless,
just less.

This moment, 13 years ago, is what propelled me further into my art journey more than any other time in my life. While I was painting this, Corel Painter announced an art contest for their 25th anniversary and I entered this in when it was done. I didn't think much about it at the time, but the voting process got serious pretty quickly and I edged out the last ranking spot for open entries by one vote. From there it moved on to a professional jury panel and was selected as the grand prize winner.
What a trip.

Got a lot of fleshing out done last week. The ivy was starting get to me until I had a thought to make them heart shaped. My daughter loves hearts and in this painting she's wearing her favorite heart patterned hoodie, so it just made sense. Also, I added some fun little critters in that I haven't painted before.

I didn't find as much time over the last week to keep working on this, but I enjoyed beginning these faces creeping in the shadows.

After going cross-eyed painting what felt like a thousand leaves for my last piece, I promised myself I wouldn't do that again. Clearly this is why I have trust issues with myself.
Anyway, this is the digital drawing refining process I went through before starting to paint.
