*cross posted*I'm really hoping someone here can help. Last year when I started my obsession, I read a story where they were at school and someone (Draco) was sending Hermione little gifts. When she opened them they transfigured into a small charm. I remember her getting an otter one and one at Christmas in front of Ginny and she made a comment on how it looked expensive. Hermione find out that the charms finish a bracelet that means that they want to court her.

I remember Draco secretly sending Hermione a series of gifts because he wanted to date her in: https://archiveofourown.org/works/596784 but I don’t remember the gifts making a bracelet- anyone have any ideas?

Though the concept has parallels to The Auction, Bleak Manor stands out with an edgy atmosphere, Draco's conflicted POV, concisely paced plot, well developed side characters (including a clever depiction of Parvati) and novel length word count. Being told from Draco's POV it proves to be a decent, edgy character study of him as he navigates his place in Voldemort's world and his evolving feelings for Hermione.

Nice twist on the Marriage Law trope. After breaking up with their current fiancés when they find them cheating (Ron x Astoria), instead of letting the Ministry choose their spouses for them, they choose each other. Note: I don’t want to give spoilers away, but I think it should be noted that though it’s not tagged, be aware that a couple loses a pregnancy in this. As someone who has lost a pregnancy before, I was not put off by how it is handled, but found it emotional and relatable. There is an HEA and there is a happy healthy pregnancy and I did enjoy the fic completely even the emotional part.

He enacts a new law that purebloods can choose captive muggleborns as spouses. The only muggleborn for Draco is Hermione - and she’s suspicious, but clever enough to figure out his dastardly persona is more pretense for show.

Secret Child/Hidden pregnancy trope: Not only was the pregnancy an accident, it was kept a secret from Draco.

Draco and Hermione are paired together in a Muggle Studies class for a cooking assignment. It’s all very educational, they both learn a lot. ;) Quiet and somber, with some angsty cooking.

Draco returns to Hogwarts for his 8th year with a drinking problem. Head Girl Hermione cautiously to the rescue. Nicely built Dramione arc as Hermione feels less connected to her friends and as Draco finds in her a safe haven no one has ever afforded him.

Angsty Draco and  emotionally confused Hermione have an undeniable attraction - but that won’t stop them from trying to deny it, and then give into it, and then deny it - you get the picture. Hermione struggles with rationalizing her relationship with Draco to both herself and her friends, while Draco fears he will  put her in danger. It’s a rocky road to an HEA for these two and fair warning: this part is complete, but does not conclude with tidy HEA arcs wrapped up, but rather a lead in to part two, which is still a WIP. Nicely developed heavy angst.

The Order has lost the war and Hermione must navigate surviving as a prisoner. Luckily for her, before she can be gifted to the Death Eaters as a toy, Draco steps in and requests her as his own prize. This series is AH-A-Amazing! Out of all the “wartime subversion” themed Dramione’s I’ve read, the progression of the Dramione arc in this series has been the best paced and fleshed out. The series is not yet complete, but each of the current four installments is fully developed and will satiate, while leaving you looking forward to the next installment. 

The Decision by @todayshewrites

Harry and Ron escape without Hermione after Bellatrix has tortured her. Tasked with disposing of her body, Draco makes the best decision he’s ever made upon realizing she is still alive and hides her in his “secret closet” - a room he has created to hide all his journals, books and items that his father would disapprove of and not let him have. At 279,586 words, this is a slow burn. A very well written, thoroughly crafted slow burn with possibly the best Harry Potter characterization I’ve ever read. This is two sides of the war coming together like a puzzle and setting a plethora of moving parts in motion to culminate at The Battle of Hogwarts. Don’t worry, it’s not so much of a slow burn that you have to wait for the Dramione until the end, but with everyone thinking Hermione is dead, a well paced built up of trust is smartly crafted. I really enjoyed all the fleshed out characterizations in this, not just the Dramione, particularly Harry’s internal struggles and Theo stealing the show a number of times.

As Hermione is left behind when Harry and Ron escape, she is given to Draco to produce his heir as punishment to the Malfoy’s by tainting their pureblood line. What sets this fic apart from the often seen premise in the fandom, is that unbeknownst to anyone, Draco and Hermione had come to an accord of sorts prior to the war when they were still at Hogwarts. Having the accord in place allows them to navigate their situation with trust already established - despite it still dripping with awkwardness. Well composed and written by juxtaposing flashbacks to how they came about their agreement at Hogwarts to the present time situation. Delivered everything I read this trope for.

Under the pretense that Draco is obsessively in love with Hermione, he orchestrates safe passage for Order members in exchange for her. Behind enemy lines, Hermione reaches an accord and tentative trust with Draco as they combat the dark regime from within while keeping up the pretense Draco devised. When feigning their love becomes less and less work, everyone wins - not just the Order. This is one of my favorite characterizations of Hermione. She is a solider of the Order, willing to fight ruthlessly playing her part, while Draco is her unexpected ally. Nice pacing and development of their relationship. Despite it’s length the author never lets the writing get lost in the weeds and is engaging throughout, delivering satisfying resolutions on all arcs. Well written.

Voldemort has seemingly won, but a resistance simmers beneath the surface. At a bar one night, Draco finds Hermione prostituting herself to survive and decides to hire her - not for the reasons she thinks. Inspired by Pretty Woman, but original to Dramione.

Post-war Healing Dramione Fic Recs 

Dramione Fics where Draco and Hermione reacquaint after the war and come together as they heal emotionally and mentally from the war. 

Post-war healing fics were Draco and Hermione deal with their PTSD through a sexual relationship that blooms into more as they heal their wounds. 

Sex and Occlumency by @graendoll

If you can handle the tags - and do pay attention to them, this might be one of the best Dramione’s you’ll ever read. Hermione has PTSD from the war. She also has a fantasy. And she begins to realize that by indulging in her fantasy it helps her compartmentalize and deal with the nightmares that haunt her and panic attacks that paralyze her. She thought she needed someone who hates her enough to act out what she needs from her fantasy, but slowly realizes only someone who loves her could truly fulfill it. An unconventional, but gritty romance between one who needs to give up control to get control and one who is willing to be controlling to serve another’s wishes. Subtle commentary between the lines on the role consent plays in taboos and societal projections of shame round out the overarching arcs. Angsty, emotional, satisfying and well written.  

Nobody Wants to Hear You Sing About Tragedy by MissELY @misselylux

Draco and Hermione keep running into each other at the Death Eater trials. She’s there as audience member at the bequest of Harry and he’s there as a witness. As the trials proceed and their encounters continue, they get a better understanding of each other and how they can forget about their pain for a little while. Somberly angsty.

The world building in this fic is as good as the Dramione arc. The Order has won the war in alliance with the Muggle world. Now the wizarding society is being integrated (and regulated) into the Muggle world. For pure bloods, this is a particularly hard transition. Luckily for Draco, Hermione has volunteered to “take custody” of him after his time in Azkaban and show him what this new world is all about. 

Fairy Stone by @colubrina

Draco gets life in Azkaban, unless someone vouches for him - then he only gets a year. To his (and everyone else’s) shock, Hermione comes through for him. From Draco’s despair at being sentenced to Azkaban to his confusion on why Hermione volunteered to be his keeper, this is a somberly sweet Dramione, mixed with domestic moments and a quiet and sincere Hermione. 

Protective Custody by @colubrina 

As Draco is released into Hermione’s “protective custody”, the two begin to find an understanding in each other through the domesticity they now find themselves sharing. From distrustful tension to smitten collaboration the Dramione arc is paced nicely. 

A Fragile Ascent by @senlinyu

Draco is released from Azkaban and into Hermione’s custody. Neither seems happy with the arrangement - but not for the reasons each thinks. This is the sequel to A Slow and Cruel Descent (read full review on the Wartime Subversion post), in which Voldemort has forced Draco and Hermione into an unusual relationship.

Extraordinarily well contrived and well written, this is one of my favorite Dramione’s. In a bid to escape his former life (and self, and family), Draco transforms himself into a mustelid ... and inadvertently becomes Hermione’s pet. During times she is out and about and her pet left home, he transforms himself back to his human form and, a little less inadvertently, happens to run into her in town, repeatedly, until they decide to meet each other not so “accidently”. He spends his evenings and nights as her pet and his days trying to woo her. Featuring a raw and self deprecating Draco who is unexpectedly smitten with his former rival and a Hermione who finds an escape from her loneliness with her former bully. Well drawn characterizations, smartly contrived premise and arcs. Delightful. 

The Right Thing to Do & All the Wrong Things by @lovesbitca8

Post-War everyone is trying to pull their lives together back into some kind of normalcy. When Draco starts work at the Ministry with Hermione and Harry, the more their lives intertwine, their hearts begin to as well. Whether you choose to read the version of the story from Hermione’s POV or Draco’s or both, it’s a beautiful study of forgiveness and rebuilding their lives post war. @lovesbitca8 is one of my favorite authors, The Right Thing to Do was my first Dramione and I decided to give it a try, bc I loved all of her Reylo fics so much. Months later, here I am as lost in the Dramione fandom as much as I am Reylo.  

Don’t Threaten Me with a Good Time by @monsterleadmehome

After the war, Draco deals with his demons the bad boy way - by womanizing, alcohol, partying and in general, behavior unbecoming a pure blood heir. Lucius approaches Hermione with a proposition as Draco’s “handler” - to get him cleaned up and together to attract a pure blood wife. Lucius views the problem as detriment to the Malfoy legacy and to be dealt with authoritatively. Hermione instead takes the time to be concerned for Draco’s well being and understands that this behavior is a manifestation of his coping and defense mechanisms. Needless to say, it’s probably the first time anyone showed Draco care as an individual and not just the Malfoy heir. @monsterleadmehome is another author that is one of my favorite Reylo authors and fast became a favorite of mine for Dramione as well. Well drawn characterizations of both Draco and Hermione and a well devised arc that is engaging and nicely paced.

Apple Pies and Other Amends by ToEatAPeach @thudsonwrites 

A fast favorite of the Dramione fandom and with good cause. This is a courtship through baking. Tentative and solemn, quiet and healing. Draco and Hermione start with forgiveness of each other and bake their way to finding the strength to forgive themselves. Incredible character study of Hermione and the journey she undertakes to cope with the PTSD from the war and Draco’s commitment to make amends. Together they heal not only their souls, but their loneliness by turning the lingering haunting horror into something sweet. Delectable from start to finish, you’ll eat it up

Everything a marriage law fic should be. Tension filled civility that grows into affection through moments of domesticity. A reluctant Hermione who fears the worse, a begrudgingly dutiful Draco who hopes for the best, meddling Malfoy parents and a Rowensmeade cottage that the two make their own.

I enjoy the marriage law fics that set the pair in their own house and their bond grows through the domesticity of their home. A Hogwarts Affair: 

Dramione Fics set at Hogwarts. 

Difficult by provocative envy @provocative-envy

Teenage angst with a side of grim introspection that move the characters from self-deprecation to self-acceptance. First person POV (Hermione’s), which isn’t normally my favorite, but this is well done. Explores Draco and Hermione’s growing connection that tears Draco between a budding (but angst ridden) relationship with Hermione  and a family that is steering him towards the dark mark. Meanwhile, Hermione must come to terms with the realization that she maybe more like her childhood bully than she’d care to admit and perhaps just as alone in her struggles as he is in his. The more self realization the pair do, the more understanding between them - as if they are the only ones who can truly see each other for who they really are. Bonus points to the author for maintaining a nice level of coming of age angst imperative to any high school au - even one set at Hogwarts. 

All You Want by @senlinyu

Eighth year, Post-War, ABO AU. Hermione is in the dark on Alphas, Betas and Omegas in the wizarding community ... until she presents as an Omega while at Hogwarts. Well written, nice tension and a healthy dose of Draco and Hermione being conscious of consent concerns, while defining and progressing their relationship.

Head Boy & Head Girl, PWP. Trying to remain inconspicuous while investigating a couple students’ late night activities, Draco and Hermione take cover in a tight location and things heat up.

Features a nice rendering of a quiet and solemn Draco taking a chance, by employing a pure blood courtship - unbeknownst to Hermione, and going for what he longs for. Sweet and quiet, with enough angst left over from the war to add a touch of tension.

Upon returning to Hogwarts, the students are advised of a much more devious plan than a marriage law by the Wizengamot - a policy in which female students are paired with male students and impregnated with their child ... for the purpose of parenting classes ... The Wizengamot might have a bit more of an ulterior motive than education, but from stunned horror at the situation to moments of domesticity, Draco and Hermione find themselves drawn together either way.
