Slow Dancing
Words: ~2k
Shoutout to @intrepidruid for proof-reading this <3
Tumblr media
You’ve always had two left feet. Growing up, it would cause a scene when you tripped while holding something or running into someone and spilling something on them. Your clumsiness left your arms and legs always covered in cuts and bruises. You became the running joke of the family, heck, even between your friends as well. You tried to laugh along, after all, they’re still hanging out with you… right?
Wrong.
Turns out you were just a pity friend. Excluded from the main group chat and being constantly left out while all your other friends hung out without you. Fine, whatever, you were an adult! You shouldn’t be hanging around those kinds of people anyways. With the support of your family, you managed to locate somewhere else to live, in a quaint little neighborhood in a gorgeous wooded area. The move was, as moves usually are, stressful. But your family helped you out so much, you couldn’t imagine doing it without them.
You were excited to have a fresh start. And the neighborhood you moved into was excited to have a new face. They were more than happy to help you move your things in, and even helped unpack! They even baked you a welcome pie, which took all your willpower to not immediately dig into it like a wild animal.
The unpacking went smoothly, except for a couple of crashes into your poor neighbors, who didn’t seem too bothered. But still, you silently worried. You think that they noticed how nervous you were, because they always made sure to reassure you that yes, it really was okay. And they seemed truly genuine, which satiated your insecurities for the time being. Over time, you actually began to believe them. There was never a neighborhood hangout hosted without someone inviting you, or even asking you to help plan it and set it up! Of course, mishaps would always happen one way or another, but your neighbors learned to prepare themselves with anything extra if you broke or smashed something, and you began to bring an extra change of clothes everywhere.
No matter what event was being hosted, you had an opportunity to sit back and watch everybody else. Choosing to stay on the picnic blanket and watch the others run around with a frisbee, or opting to stay off stage and out of the spotlight during karaoke night or when Sally hosted a play. Your favorite was movie night. Just getting to sit down and watch television with all of your friends doing the same thing, not feeling left out or awkward or afraid of messing anything up.
Which unfortunately, you are not getting the opportunity to enjoy tonight. Julie excitedly arranged for a dance party at her house, and it was a really big deal. Every party is a big deal to Julie. When Julie invited the neighborhood, you really tried to let her down easy, that no, you really and truly did not think it was a good idea for you to go. But she really did insist, telling you that it wouldn't be the same if you weren't there, and getting everyone else to voice their agreement with her.
So of course, you caved. You wanted nothing more than to please your neighbors. If they really wanted you to go, you would, but you would probably just be a wallflower all night, as usual.
Julie didn’t really believe you when you promised to come, so she actually assigned someone to come pick you up and escort you to make sure you kept your promise. You would never break a promise to a friend, but the situation did make you laugh. They seemed to know you very well, well enough to realize how much you hate dancing. And it really warmed your heart that, despite all your accidents, they still wanted to have you around. Dancing with them, no less.
Thinking about the night that you are about to experience has you nervously smoothing out your outfit in the mirror, and nitpicking the little details about yourself. Sure, you had no plan to actually dance, but you still wanted to put in effort for your friends. Your escort will be here any moment now, which makes you feel restless. You just wanted to get this over with already.
And just as expected, there was a gentle knock on your door. Your heart thumping in your chest as you open the door.
“Oh! Hello Barnaby!” You smile as the large blue dog is leaning down to be able to see into the doorway. After a moment you look down and see Wally looking up at you, “And Wally! I almost didn’t see you!”
“Heya (Y/N)! Us two gentlemen have the pleasure of walking you to our destination tonight!” Barnaby bowed and offered his arm.
“Wow, how lucky am I?” you humor him, intertwining your arms despite the vast height difference making it a little difficult.
“Can I join?” Wally asks, offering up his arm too.
You smile and link arms with Wally, and you all set off in the direction of Julie’s house. The presence of Barnaby made you feel a little less jittery, he really has a way of lightening the mood. Although the jitters would come back as soon as you would observe Wally in your peripheral vision. Everytime Barnanby made one of his funny little quips, Wally would look up at you and watch for your reaction. Was he testing to see if Barnaby is actually making you laugh? The attention made you queasy as you quickly made it to Julie’s front door.
“Allow me,” Wally smiles as he reaches up as far as he can to knock on the door.
You’re surprised that Julie even heard his weak attempt at a knock. Maybe she just has a sixth sense for when people have arrived at her party. It wouldn’t surprise you at all actually.
At the sight of all three of you together, Julie began jumping up and down and flapping her hands, “You’re finally here! Come in, come in!” she reaches out to grab you by the shoulders and pull you through the door.
And suddenly the attention was on you again. Everybody had turned their heads to look at you. You gave a nervous smile and wave as everyone greeted you and complimented your fancy outfit. Once everyone had greeted each other, they all went back to their business. Frank and Eddie were dancing, but it was more Frank scolding Eddie for stepping on his toes. Sally was attempting to teach Poppy how to tango, and Howdy was making smoothies and sitting at the bar, watching everybody else.
Howdy gives you a big smile as he notices you approaching him, “Howdy (Y/N)! Can I get you anything?”
“Yeah, I noticed you were whipping up some smoothies” you say as you sit across from him at the island.
“Say no more!” Howdy begins to use his four arms and hands to multitask pouring juice into the blender and chopping up fruits.
While you were watching him work his magic, you felt a gentle tug on your sleeve. You looked down and saw Wally smiling up at you, still holding onto the fabric of your clothing.
“Mind if I join you neighbor?” He asked slowly, and climbed onto the stool next to you when you smiled and nodded, “are you enjoying the party?” he asked.
“Oh, yes! Everybody looks really nice tonight,” you sighed, “but I’m not much of a dancer, I’m afraid.”
Wally swiveled his stool so he was facing you, swinging his feet, “you think I look nice?”
Your face flushes at his reaction as his face lights up, “of course! I think you always look nice.”
At that very moment, Howdy places a tall glass filled with smoothie goodness in front of you. You turn away from Wally, thankful for the distraction from his heavy gaze. Howdy begins to work on a different mixture for the blender, and you watch him do four things at once as you take a slow sip of your smoothie. The cold drink touches your tongue and flavor immediately explodes into your mouth, and you can’t help but start gulping some down. You can feel the cold drink travel down your throat and into your stomach, and it helps you feel a little cooler in the hot and crowded room.
Howdy was barely able to hold the tiny cup in his hands. He gently pushes it towards Wally, “There you go, Walls! I put apples in it, just for you!”
Wally takes the glass, and feels the coldness with his hands, “ha ha ha! That’s a good one Howdy, there aren’t actually apples in here!”
You smile and take another sip of your smoothie, almost finished with it at this point. Sometimes the way that Wally struggles to understand cooking is really funny. You glance at Wally, and he is just gently cupping the glass with his hands, and playing with the condensation building.
“I think you look nice too” Wally says quietly, “Not just nice, I think you look amazing.”
You cough and slam your glass onto the counter, momentarily choking on your drink, “u-um, sorry, I didn’t think…” you hesitated for a moment, “I didn’t think I looked my best tonight.”
“I think you always look nice, it’s always great to see you. I’m glad you came tonight.”
You looked at Wally, smiling up at you with a hint of blush on his face. You swiveled the stool, facing the living room and your neighbors dancing and having fun.
“I don’t think I should have come,” you say, averting your gaze from Wally, “this isn’t really… my thing.”
Wally hops down from his seats, and stands in front of you, and offers his hand, “will you dance with me?”
Your mouth hangs open in shock, “w-what? I- Wally you… you don’t want to dance with me.”
His hand stayed where it was in the air, “Yes I do, that's why I’m asking you!” he laughed and looked up at you with twinkling eyes, “…well?”
You looked out past him, to your neighbors who seem to be taking a dance break and are milling about, hanging out by the sides of the room rather than the center. The lively music was blasting, keeping the energy and buzz in the room alive. You look back at Wally, still holding out his hand patiently. You take in a shuddering breath and shakily reach out to take his hand.
He gently tugs you forward, leading you off of your stool and towards the open living room. The room is hushed as your neighbors notice you heading to the space they set up as the “dance floor.” Out of the corner of your eye you can see Julie fiddling with the radio, and then when she steps away, a slow, gentle tune floats through the air. Wally looks up at you, intertwines his hands with yours, and steps up so his feet are on top of yours.
“Just take little steps, neighbor.”
Holding onto Wally so he doesn’t fall off of your feet has you cringing about how sweaty your hands have gotten. You feel very aware of the eyes on you, the slow, almost romantic music, and Wally’s eyes boring into you. You look down at Wally, and his never-ending smile seems to grow a smidge wider. He breaks eye contact and rests his head against your chest, and hugs a hand around your waist the best he can. You pray that he isn’t able to hear how loud your heartbeat is.
You focus hard on the way you move your body, stepping around the floor carefully. You can vaguely hear Wally humming along with the song as he lets you guide him in dance. You take a deep breath and rest your head on the top of his head the best you can. Amazingly enough, you managed to get through the entire song without tripping over yourself. The song ends and raucous laughter and cheering and clapping fill the air.
All of your neighbors are cheering you on, rushing around you, shaking you around, and giving you big hugs. You laugh with them, their energy catching you by surprise.
“You did so well, neighbor!” Wally beamed up at you, reaching out to take your hand, “will you keep dancing with me?”

Ok cool!! So, this is extremely random but I need comfort. Can we have some headcannons on Wally with a reader on her period (I’m pretty puppets can’t have periods but just roll with it 😅)
Can you also make it we’re reader has a heavy flow and bad cramps and gets EXTREMELY moody? That’s basically me on my period 💀
This is such a sweet ask, we all need comfort sometimes. :) I'll also make these headcannons to be gender inclusive for my trans kings and nonbinary folks <3
Also I'm sorry this took me forever to write, I've been literally addicted to Minecraft lately 💀
Wally Darling with a partner who is on their period.
While puppets don't really have the same anatomy as humans, and not totally understand some things, they can realize when you're uncomfortable or in pain.
Which grabs the attention of the absolute most of a neighbor, and he doesn't understand why you're in so much pain that you're curled up and crying. He does know that something is wrong though and will try and help you in any way he can.
Will also ask so. many. questions. and try and know everything there is to know, even if he doesn't understand why the human body even does the whole "menstruation" thing anyways.
He doesn't strike me as someone who would be grossed out with any bodily fluid really because puppets don't have any, and therefore don't understand what they even are.
Is attached to your hip for however long it lasts, constantly attending to your every need.

“…hello?” a hand waves in front of your face.
You blink for a moment before fixing your gaze on the person talking to you, “…huh?”
“Are you feeling alright neighbor?” you make eye contact with Wally as he places a hand on your arm “you look a little red, did you forget to put on sunscreen?”
You did feel rather hot. And uncomfortable. And in pain. Why did you agree to a neighborhood picnic anyways? As you open your mouth to brush Wally off, a violent pain overwhelms you, making you let out a strangled cry and you double over in pain on instinct.
“Oh goodness! Are you okay neighbor?!” Wally rushes to your side and rubs your back soothingly.
Embarrassment and irritation flooded through you as a scene was beginning to form, “yes, just..." you clench your jaw for a moment, "argh!” you growled and pushed Wally away from you.
You didn’t look at him as you pushed yourself to your feet and started to walk away. You didn’t see his pupils shrink and a look of total devastation painted across his face. Even in the way he held himself, he was truly hurt.
You couldn’t even begin to think about your actions, the wave of anger that suddenly washed over you took control as you briskly walked towards a quieter and shadier part of the woods. The harsh sun beat down on you as you tried to breathe through the pain.
You didn't even notice that you were being followed.
"Neighbor!" A voice called out to you. When you turned, you saw Wally running to catch up with you, "I'm sorry neighbor, I didn't mean to embarrass you. I was just worried about you!"
While he was rambling, you got a moment to look at him. He seemed sweaty and frazzled, and it dawns on you that you were incredibly mean to him for no reason, and yet he is still in front of you, worried and apologizing. Your anger and irritation melted away and a feeling of guilt settled on your chest. Your face felt flushed, and you were sweating a ton. From the sun, or from the embarrassment you weren’t too sure anymore.
Another wave of pain washed over you, which made you bend over and wrap your arms around your lower torso.
Wally places his hands on your upper arms and looks up at you, “I know what's wrong, I remember you telling me about this, neighbor. You should go home and rest."
You allowed yourself to be tugged in the direction of your home by Wally, who took great care in guiding you and comforting you whenever you grimaced in pain.
When you made it to your house, Wally escorted you inside and lead you over to the sofa in your living room.
"Can I get you anything? What can I do for you?"
Looking into his eyes, seeing the concern written all over his face was too much for you.
"I don't know what's wrong with me!" You cried out, tears quickly forming in your eyes as you begin to breakdown, "I'm sorry Wally, I'm so sorry!"
As you're sobbing, Wally comes closer, trying to comfort you which leads you to wrap your arms around him and pull him in for an embrace.
"I know you didn't mean to," Wally mumbled, "but let me help, please neighbor."
You took a couple of breaths, trying to calm down, "I-I don't want help" you whimpered, "I just want you here with me."
Wally's eyes widened for a moment, before he gently wrapped his arms around you, "of course I'll stay neighbor," he nestled into the crook of your neck, "you are the absolute most after all."

Nightlight
You, the reader, are afraid of the dark, and during a thunderstorm the power goes out!
1.9k words
Cw: I did not beta read this we die like MEN
Tumblr media
Instead of the usual gentle pitter patter of a gentle rain shower, there are raging bullets pelting the window. Flashes of occasional blinding white light, and then thunderous booms echoing through the dark sky. Your house was dark, except for a few miscellaneous nightlights you have set on in the room. Storms didn’t scare you at all. In fact, the flashes of lightning were almost welcome, as it helped illuminate your room far better than any number of nightlights could. You appreciated anything that would help your room not be completely dark.
You begin to drift off, tucked into warm, thick blankets with the comforting sound of rain and thunder. Just as you are about to succumb to slumber, an ear shattering boom shakes your house, causing your light fixtures to physically shake from their place on the ceiling. In a second, the nightlights you had scattered in your room die out, plunging your room into complete darkness. You can’t stop yourself from letting out a scream, from both the surprisingly loud thunder, and from being forced into the dark. You whimper as you squeeze your eyes shut, trying to pretend like the lights didn’t just go out.
Fall asleep. Fall asleep. Please, just fall asleep.
You lay there for a few moments, before opening your eyes again. You can’t help but feel like you’re being watched as you strain your eyes to make out any shapes in the dark. Maybe a glass of water will help, you reason with yourself. You feel around on your bedside table and feel for the drawer. You slide it open and stick your hand in, searching for your flashlight. Once you locate it, you flip the switch and a beam of light shoots from its front. You shine your flashlight around your room, warily checking the corners and dark spots in the room. Satisfied, you get up from your bed, slip on your slippers and make your way out of your room, down the hallway, and to the kitchen.
The darkness looms around you as you warily make your way to the cupboard for a cup. You could almost swear you heard something as you whipped around, panicked. You scan the flashlight around the room, looking for the source of the noise. When you see nothing, you release the breath you didn’t realize you were holding. You reach into your cupboard and pull out a cup and turn on the tap to fill the cup when lightning flashes and you swore you saw something out of the corner of your eye. You whip around once again, watching the darkness. Another flash and you see a tall, lanky, dark figure standing in the corner, watching you.
You instinctively let out a shriek, dropping the glass cup in your hand and stumbling back, falling onto the floor in fear as you try to back away from the creature. In your panic you didn’t notice the shards of glass impaling themselves into your skin as you slid yourself across the floor. You desperately reach up to the counter to pull yourself up and feel around for your flashlight, but to your horror you cannot find it. With your adrenaline in overdrive, you make a mad dash to what you think might be your front door, willing to do anything to get away from the creature that has made its way into your home. You end up running full force into the door, crushing your nose and stunning you for a moment, before you shakily feel for the doorknob, and fling the door open.
You are immediately greeted by the full force of a raging storm, the wind and rain now coming inside. Head reeling, now feeling a wetness run down from your nose, you set out into the storm, in just your pajamas and slippers. You can’t even feel the tears on your face due to the intense downpour as you flee across your yard, in a random direction.
It felt like the rain was drowning you. It was so hard to breathe from the sheer terror coursing through your veins mixed with the tsunami coming down on top of you, which chilled you to the bone. Slowing down to catch your breath for a moment, you slipped on a big pile of mud (which was basically the whole yard) and fell backwards, onto your butt. You let out a cry of pain as you catch yourself with your hands, now feeling the glass shards that are still embedded in your skin.
You can’t help but let out a pitiful wail as you try to push yourself up again, hoping that somehow, somebody will hear you and come to your rescue. And your prayers were answered.
“…Y/N!”
Huh? You could have sworn you heard something. You lift your head and look up, trying to make out anything in the storm.
“Y/N!” You heard it again, but clearer this time.
You look towards the voice and see none other than Wally Darling! He’s running towards you! He quickly makes his way to your side, and helps lift you off the ground, before throwing one of your arms around his shoulder and marching you towards his house. Your legs feel like jelly, and every step you take exhausts you. The adrenaline you felt before worn off, and now you regret even doing this to yourself in the first place. All because of some stupid shadow.
As soon as you get close to Home, it swings the front door wide open so Wally can help you through the door.
“…How… how did you find me?” You ask, shakily sitting down when Wally guided you to the couch.
“Oh, my goodness…” He said, cupping your face, “You’re bloody.” He stated with a look of great concern and even a little bit of fear.
He quickly makes his way out of the room, leaving you sitting on the couch, trying to take everything in. You had a splitting headache, and you felt incredibly weak, like you would just fall over any minute. Wally returns with a first aid kit, and a towel. You didn't realize you were trembling until he wrapped the towel around you.
"Y/N!" Wally waves his hand in front of your face.
You look at him and he repeats himself, "I asked what happened? Why were you outside in this storm? In your pajamas no less?"
You just looked away and shrugged your shoulders slightly, not having any energy. Wally lets out a sigh before opening his first aid kit and begins wiping the blood from your face, and where it dripped onto your neck. He sets the damp washcloth to the side, turning your face to the side with his hand to inspect for any other injury.
"Are you hurt anywhere else?" he asks gently, pushing your wet hair out of your face.
You hold out your hands and show him your palms. His pupils dilate and a horrified gasp escapes from his mouth. He makes quick work of extracting the glass, and then disinfecting the wounds and cleaning them of mud and grass. He then tightly wraps your hands with bandages and gathers all the dirty medical supplies and disposes of them.
He then makes his way out of the room again. A moment later he returns, with a fresh washcloth, and extra clothes. He sets them on the couch next to you.
“Here, you can clean yourself up in the bathroom and change.”
You gather everything in your hands and head to where Wally pointed and close the door and lock it when you make it to the bathroom. You peel off your soaking, mud-soaked clothes and begin to wipe yourself off with the damp washcloth. You then put on the spare pajamas that Wally had brought out to you, which were a little too big for you. You fold up your muddy clothes and leave them in a neat pile in the corner of the bathroom. You take a towel and begin drying off your hair.
Once it’s not dripping wet, you fold the towel and set it on your pile of dirty clothes. You then make your way out of the bathroom, and back to the living room, where Wally is waiting for you. You have calmed down enough now to notice that it seems his power has gone out too, as there are a few candles and lanterns set up to help illuminate the room.
“Will you tell me why you were outside, neighbor?” Wally asked, tilting his head.
“I…” you begin to speak, but the fear of what you thought you saw in your house comes back, “I-I thought… It was so dark…” you manage to choke out, tears filling your eyes.
Wally immediately notices your distress, and gently guides you back to the couch, and he sits down with you. As tears begin to fall down your face, he soothingly rubs a hand on your back, encouraging you to continue.
“The dark… it terrifies me. I had nightlights in my room, but the power went out. I couldn’t sleep so I went to get some water, but then I thought I saw something!” you cried, “standing in the corner, watching me… I dropped my cup and fell on it, and then I got so scared I ran outside!” you began to tremble recalling the events.
Wally scoots closer to you and rests his head on your shoulder, still rubbing your back. “Next time you get scared, come over to Home. We will keep you safe…”
You sniffled and wrapped your arms around Wally, bringing him into a tight embrace.
“You must be very tired, neighbor,” Wally said, not pulling away from the embrace, “you should go back to bed. You can sleep in my bed.”
At the mention of sleeping, you can’t help but let a big yawn escape you. You do feel tired, both physically and emotionally. You nod and Wally takes your hand, guiding you from the couch and up the stairs towards his bedroom. He brings in an electronic lantern and switches it on and sets it on the bedside table.
“Here, this can be your nightlight.” He said as he looked over to you, and patted the bed, “come on, bedtime!”
You made your way over to Wally’s bed and tucked yourself in under the covers.
Wally tilts his head at you, “Is there anything else you need?”
You hesitated for a moment, before moving over to the side of the bed and patting the empty space next to you. Wally immediately sits on the bed and looks at you.
“Will you… stay with me tonight?” you shyly ask.
Wally’s pupils dilate in surprise, and you thought you saw his face go a little pink.
“Of course, anything you need,” he said and slowly slid into bed next to you, being as close to his edge of the bed as possible.
“Thank you, Wally,” you turn on your side and look at him, “It’s nice to not be alone after a rough night.”
Wally turns on his side to face you. He’s quiet for a moment before speaking, “goodnight (Y/N),” he murmured.
“Goodnight Wally,” you smile and wrap an arm around his body and pull him closer.
This elicits a small squeak of surprise from him as you wrap yourself around him and cuddle into him. Wally stares at you with big eyes, and a pink face. You let out a long sigh as you listen to the therapeutic sound of rain hitting the window, and the occasional thunder booming. You close your eyes and allow sleep to take you.

If I see anyone infantilizing Clown bc of the nsfw decision I am stomping you, I am stomping you with my hooves. They are a grown ass man, you are not his fucking babysitter and you aren't protecting this "poor little cinnamon roll" from anything. You have a parasocial relationship and are taking away their fucking autonomy as a person. I'm going to bite you.

Pride/Coming out Headcannons
Happy pride month! And happy first post lol. I thought it would be fun to make some headcannons about how the Welcome Home cast would celebrate/ react to you coming out!
Tumblr media
Wally Darling
Celebrating
I feel like Wally would not really understand at first
"A special month? What about when it's not June?"
Would walk around to spread the news to the other neighbors about this wonderful thing he just learned called "pride month" (even though everyone already knows what it is)
Coming Out
Depending on what identity you're coming out with, you will most likely need to explain it to him a little bit. He's just a silly little guy after all.
Would probably paint you a picture of something to do with your identity flag or something to show that he loves you no matter what! Best friends stick together
Barnaby B. Beagle
Celebrating
Something tells me this guy can make balloon animals
Would probably make a comedy routine for pride and make jokes that target each neighbor and their identity lol
Coming Out
Would definitely make some out of pocket jokes (in a good way)
Howdy Pillar
Celebrating
Would deck out his bugdega in banners and ribbons and streamers n shit.
Would also change into the most hideously colorful uniform ever. Dear lord the colors clash so bad but hes trying to show his support for his friends!
Would stock up on all the things that the gays need (extra hairspray for Wally, and just a plethora of rainbow things and decorations for the other neighbors)
Coming Out
"Oh, ya don't say?" (already knew)
Would order you something special that reps your flag so you can show your pride!
Eddie Dear
Celebrating
Already has decor and corny outfits ready the first day of pride, and will continue to wear corny ass outfits with rainbows everywhere until the very last day.
Probably has special mail stamps and envelopes too lol
Defintely shows off Frank during this time. He loves his partner!!
Not headcannon but actually cannon... drag queen. Would be a drag queen in Sally's drag shows
Coming Out
"Awesome, more of us!"
Will definitely give you a big ol' hug and get emotional because you trust him enough to come out to him.
Frank Frankly
Celebrating
Will celebrate if his friends are doing something, but won't do anything himself.
But he'll do anything that Eddie asks him to do.
Which means he wears Eddie's god awful accessories so they can match because he just can't say no to his lovely husband.
Coming Out
Would just kind of be like "Okay cool, can you leave my house now? Im kinda busy" (Was about to go butterfly watching)
Julie Joyful
Celebrating
Would go to each neighbor individually and wish them happy pride month!
Would want to play lots of games and have lots of sleepovers to celebrate as much as possible!
Also matching with Eddie and Frank
Coming Out
"beeee who you areeee"
Give you a big happy hug and get suuper excited
Sally Starlet
Celebrating
Would host plays with the main characters being gay or something so probably shakespeare tbh
Host a drag show once a week
Coming Out
"Does this mean you'll be apart of my plays?"
Poppy Partridge
Celebrating
Makes sooo many baked goods you get a stomach ache
Definitely takes over as a mother figure during this month, so if you normall don't have supportive parents shes your mom now :)
Coming Out
Will probably start crying and give you a hug because she loves you so much
So touched that you came out to her
