Movement Based Split: Similar to an upper and lower training split, a movement split focuses on particular movement patterns. For example on an upper day, the focus would be horizontal pulling exercises, (landmine row, single arm standing cable row, dumbbell bent over row and etc). Their are a number of movement patterns in which you can lay out your days in the following way: 1️⃣ Upper Body Horizontal Focus: Exercises that involve decline, incline and flat presses with row variations. Finishing off the workout with shoulders, triceps and bicep isolation exercises. 2️⃣ Lower Body Hip/Hinge Focus: Deadlifts, good mornings and back extensions. Secondary movements would be squats, more hamstring work, calf training and abs. 3️⃣ Upper Body Vertical Focus: Overhead pressing, high incline, chin ups, pull ups and pull down variations. Upper & Lower Body Workouts: The upper and lower split program is more suited for intermediate lifters or experienced beginners however we recommend moving onto this once you have at least 3 to 6 months of consistent training of full body workouts under your belt. This type of training has many benefits, compared to a full body workout, for example you can squeeze in more volume per workout for a body part which will aid in better results. Furthermore you add more exercise variety into each session in order to hit specific muscles within a muscle group thus helping with muscle portion, symmetry, aesthetics, performance and strength. The upper and lower routine makes it ideal for those looking to train in hypertrophy or strength. Please note if training your 1 rep max, give that muscle group/groups at least two to three days of rest in till you work out that muscle group again. Here are some examples of different ways you can lay out your training for this type of split. 1️⃣ Four days per week, consisting of upper one day, the next day lower body workout, the following day rest and repeat. Performing this during the weekdays and having the weekends off. 2️⃣ Upper one day, followed by a rest day, on the third day lower body, rest and repeat. Similar to a full body workout layout having every other day as a rest day. Focusing on training 3 to 4 times per week. 3️⃣ Two day on, one day off approach. One day training upper body, the next day training your lower body and resting the next. The Best Guide To Ab Training: You must make sure your nutrition is on point! You could have the greatest six pack or eight pack in the World but you or no one will ever know if it remains hidden due to high body fat. Ensure you either eat nutritious and good quality food in order to become leaner or remain lean enough to see your six pack. Another important point is to make sure every repetition is performed with perfect form. Doesn’t matter if you can do 5 perfect crunches, rather that then performing 100 poor quality reps that lead to no where or worse to an injury. Lastly we recommend you to start off with body weight if you’re a beginner or returning to exercise after a long break. Once you’ve mastered the body weight version, either progress on to a harder body weight variation or add a dumbbell for extra resistance. Dumbbells go up on average between 1 - 2.5 KG whereas a weight plate can jump up in 5 or 10 kg increments which can be risky so better to opt for a dumbbell in progressive overload. A stability ball is also useful for increasing the resistance. 10 - 15 repetitions, 3 sets as a finisher at the end of a workout or alternatively on rest days.
