My thoughts on Jocelyn’s death

So, after episode 2x04 there have been a lot of comments, opinions, agreements, disagreements and I just feel like speaking up openly about it, mainly on the subject of Jocelyn's death.

Why kill her? The reason according to official sources was so Clary could grow while dealing with the pain of losing her mother, also Alec's guilt will take him to get closer to Clary, ending somehow in a friendship....This death sounds a lot like Valentine's “Love is to Destroy”...

From my POV, I think somehow they needed to write off Jocelyn for a while...and not I'm not agreeing with killing her, just sent her to Idris would have been enough, but even though she would still be part of Clary's life and also Jace's....what brings me to my other point...even though looks like timing has been working out pretty well on the show, even though somethings have changed, Jocelyn getting out of the comma was too rushed. With her awake and around, it would be a matter of time until she realizes that Jace isn't actually Jonathan, which would practically screw the entire CoA plot. If Clace discovers they are not really related too soon, there will be missing clave points on the story that are NEEDED to happen. We wouldn't have the incest, though we are not fans of it it was kinda needed, and we wouldn't have Climon. Which I know is not canon, but still is a key relationship that defined both Clary and Simon and also their friendship.

Best Case Scenario

Jocelyn is not really dead...I still think there's something off with this dead, not only because why Alec? I mean, it wasn't like he encoutered Jocelyn and she tried to defend herself so he attacked her, just like what happened with Raj and Lydia. In this case Alec went straight to kill Jocelyn, and why looking at the camara? Like I said, there's something hidden there that I'm pretty sure writers will reveal eventually. We can think in so many options about it, just a fake death to trick Valentine and make him think she died in hands of the demon he unleashed, considering he still has some twisted feelings for her. The clave could perfectly be behind all of it just to keep her both safe and controlled. Also to test Clary's loyalties now that her mother is gone and his father is just right there. After all she is Valentine's daughter.

Medium Case Scenario

Being a little bit positive we can came up with the idea of Jocelyn bring back to life. How? No idea...and let me tell you this idea/theory is the worst considering that it would totally mess the City of Fallen Angels plot.

Worst case scenenario:

Jocelyn is really dead and the entire books kinda goes to hell if she's not around considering how important her character is. I'm not sure this would actually happen considering that, even though you can have all the thoughts and ideas you want regarding the writers, I do believe they had made changes this far but somehow respecting the core of the characters, and they are smart enough to know that if Jocelyn doesn't get back somehow most of the fans, specially Lucelyn shippers will riot and stop watching the show. I think besides everything they can say about the reasons to kill her the truest one is what Kat said on TV Guide about keeping both show fans and books fans on edge. I honestly hope this is the truth because I'm not ready for another Book to TV fiasco, I've had enough already. According to the latest interview EP had with TVLine this death wasn't taken lightly and was even talked with Cassie, who liked the idea and I quote “thought it was a cool way to execute Clary's journey as a hero's journey”...I'm sorry but I do not agree with the need of a parent death as part of adulting, she was a hero in the books without the need of Jocelyn's dead.

In summary:

Jocelyn is dead and it absolutely sucks...none of the reasons that have been giving this far is enough, Clary had enough on her plate to grow and be a hero, I mean, her mother whipped her memory and hid her the truth, her father us a psycho killer and she fell in love with her brother, not to mention her best friend died and turned into a vampire. So again I wonder myself WHY was her dead needed? They could have perfectly keeping her on the comma longer to add some more drama. I have always been a supporter of the changes and how they always ended up in the right path, like it was said in season 1, the characters still went from point A to B just through a different path. This changes that big way, and not in a good way. What will happen to Luke now? How is he going to deal with so much pain? How will Clary deal with all this? After everything she has already been through she will definitely lose herself in the pain and to be honest watching all this will probably annoy us even more. So how will this affect ratings? Sorry to tell that odds are not in the show's favor with bookhard fans, if they were already angry with minor changes I don't want to know what they are saying now. The book lovers/show lovers are in shock and angry with this change, I admit I'm in this group and though I feel annoyed with this change there are things I still want to see on screen, without going to far Malec's first date...from this moment on stakes are up if fans aren't pleased I don't know what can happen...

So we'll have to wait and see what happens, and hope that this is somehow justified through the rest of the season and make us fall in love with the show once more...
