Mass Effect Head Canon

Technology and the human race- some of the tech in the series is oddly outdated (a.k.a. Too similar to today’s tech) so here’s what I picture.

• Get rid of needles and injectable vaccines. Microtechnology is already being used in experimental labs so why not have specialized nanites programmed to detect and destroy viruses and harmful bacteria? Instead of a new round of shots just update their software.

• Genetically modify ourselves to better handle the strain of space. I imagine a large percent of the population would volunteer to undergo this process and would come out physically healthier, stronger, and tougher. Only downside is the rest of the population would start to get nervous about their new supper neighbors and of course prejudice would follow. There’d be a short civil war that results in a peaceful negotiation on paper, but citizen are still wearying of each other and radicals pop up every so often. Needless to say, it’s a shaky peace.

• Use a sterilized bonding paste or strip to suture cuts instead of stitches. Once the cut heals the adhesive is harmlessly absorbed into the body. Think Sci-fi superglue mixed with synthetic skin graphs.

• Paper just wouldn’t be a thing. If someone owned a relic made out of it it’d probably be in a protective case and be treated like ivory pieces; kinda cool and pretty but a little messed up once you think about how it was made. Like the forests (what’s left of them) are supper protected and processing trees just seems barbaric to them. There’d still be physical books and pages but they’d use a plastic/polyester synthetic fiber instead.

• Humans in the Mass Effect series have a lifespan of ~200 years yet a 40 year old character looks like he’s on his deathbed. I think instead their looks and health would get extended too. 100’s the new 50. A child would age about the same but our peek physique would last much longer.
