Three years ago today i left islam, three years ago i freed myself from a cult (from a psychological standpoint), three years ago I no longer felt the need to justify islam's sexist scriptures, three years ago, I stopped feeling so much shame for simply existing as a woman. And I survived despite all the shit that I went through and for that I am eternally grateful. I am so proud of myself for putting through it all and still remaining strong and resilient throughout those past few years. Today i'm celebrating me because that woman has been through a lot. 12 july 2020- 12 july 2023

"The church used to say, 'No, God didn't allow evolution. Instead, he hid the bones in the rocks to test our faith.' It didn't work out too well. So now they say, 'Now we know about it, it proves how incredibly clever he was all along.' It's an infinitely elastic airbag, and there's no argument that I can bring or anyone else can bring against it. And that's what should make you suspicious." -- Christopher Hitchens
https://www.catholic.com/tract/adam-eve-and-evolution
Concerning biological evolution, the Church does not have an official position on whether various life forms developed over the course of time. However, it says that, if they did develop, then they did so under the impetus and guidance of God, and their ultimate creation must be ascribed to him.
Concerning human evolution, the Church has a more definite teaching. It allows for the possibility that man’s body developed from previous biological forms, under God’s guidance, but it insists on the special creation of his soul. [..] So whether the human body was specially created or developed, we are required to hold as a matter of Catholic faith that the human soul is specially created; it did not evolve, and it is not inherited from our parents, as our bodies are.
Either god thinks whatever man wants him to think, or everyone who claimed to have figured him out was wrong.

That's here. That's home. That's us.
On it, everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives.
The aggregate of our joy and suffering. Thousands of confident religions, ideologies and economic doctrines. Every hunter and forager. Every hero and coward. Every creator and destroyer of civilization. Every king and peasant. Every young couple in love. Every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer. Every teacher of morals. Every corrupt politician. Every superstar. Every supreme leader. Every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there.
On a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam.
The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.
Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel, on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner. How frequent their misunderstandings. How eager they are to kill one another. How fervent their hatreds.
Our posturings, our imagined self-importance. The delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light.
Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.
The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate.
Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.
It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image.
To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot. The only home we've ever known.

"I don't have a special name for my unbelief in tooth fairies, witches, or Santa Claus. I just don't think they're there. I don't have to prove 'atoothfairyism,' 'asantaclausism,' or 'awitchism.' I have to say that I think those who believe in these things have never been able to make a plausible or intelligible case for doing so." -- Christopher Hitchens
Non-belief is not a belief.
