sometimes i remember how the turn writers fumbled so hard by not including the whole “they are exactly the same, and you will suffer the same fate.” like WOAH OKAY PAUSE
alexander rose was kinda being a hater when he included that whole segment in the book immediately followed by “erm actually, that probably didn’t even happen.” okay pal but please understand how that line goes hard asf. i don’t wanna hear the whole “oh well, andre was in prison at the time and probably wouldn’t have even cared about nathan hale’s execution given the time.” like shut up and just let me imagine.
edit went so hard i had someone in my comments section who said they worked on a bunch of episodes from s1
TURN “I Know The End”
Every good fandom needs an honorary ’i know the end’ edit that’s just how it works. Please go ahead and direct all hate to @tallmadgeandtea it was her idea I am guiltless (kidding ofc). I fear I will be getting jail time for this and having my editing privileges revoked. But I simply had to do what must be done.
Please watch until the end. I spent my entire spring break working on this and nearly caused my phone to overheat.
A little while ago I did this semester-long project focusing on the culper ring which had me trying to find primary sources that would be useful. One of the sources that I found was a letter from Charles Scott to George Washington and it's actually the funniest thing I found during the entire research part.
In the letter, Scott says that he forwarded a letter to Washington from a man named John Bolton, who was recommended to him by Benjamin Tallmadge… I’m sure you can see the irony here.
National Archives (where I found it) goes on to say that Scott more than likely meant to use the name Samuel Culper, but it’s actually way more funny he used Tallmadge’s alias instead. Just imagine Tallmadge indirectly hyping himself up to Scott like “this guy’s so smart you can totally trust him” as he’s just referring to himself.
fun hangout idea: i make you watch turn and i look at you like this the entire time sitting in utter silence occasionally being broken by “erm, actually” any time they do something wrong
Me when I remember I can edit and I’ve decided to make it everyone’s problem
That one deleted scene between Ben and Washington is actually pure evil. The whole “And what would the tories call your friend Woodhull if they catch him” “The same thing they called my friend Nathan Hale”. OH GOD THEY WERE SO SICK FOR THAT
But then I started spiraling the more I thought about the comparison between Hale and Woodhull. Because OH MY GOD. Genuinely it’s sickening. The Culper Ring in general was made the way it was almost directly in response to Hale’s failure of a mission. Comparing both real life and the portrayal of it in the show, Ben is actually a huge factor in both of them taking part in the rebellion in some way or another. But then you get more into the few points in the show that actually compare Abe to Hale, specifically the time Abe is in prison (I used that part in the edit) with that one dude saying “Please tell me you’re some sort of Nathan Hale”. The moment is brushed aside almost immediately but it’s still there.
Go on to the end of season three with Trial and Execution. While most just compare Andre to Hale during his trial, there is also the comparison between Hale and Abe that is briefly brought up by the characters in the show. I don’t think you all realize how we were all saved by NOT having any of the other characters find out Abe was almost hanged for treason. Forever grateful because I know I would never have recovered from that.
Anyways unlike the last edit, this was all my doing so all hate and grievances can be directed towards me. I will start maniacally laughing
girls when they remember nathan hale and william tallmadge (benjamin tallmadge’s older brother) probably died only about a month or two apart from each other
i don’t know a single person who was rooting for abe and anna past episode five. like okay wrap it up you two
In a love hate relationship with TURN's Abraham Woodhull because on one hand:
I really enjoy his character. It's really interesting to see his lies, methods of deception and all the different masks he puts on for the sake of gaining information. I really just want to peer into his brain and study his very being.
