Cuddles
This is how I think the Metkayina Characters would cuddle.
Tumblr media
Tsireya
I think she is a big cuddler. On warmer days she would face her partner with their foreheads together and arms and legs mixed together. On cooler days I see her laying on top of her partner but her legs are tucked up so she’s in an egg-like position. She is such a cutie!
______________________________________________________________
"Hello, my love." you greet with open arms. "How was your day?"
"It was wonderful." she answers, sinking comfortably into your arms. "I love watching the kids when they succeed in riding the ilu. How about you?"
"It was relaxing. I finished a bracelet for my mom." you tell her. "Now I can spend time with the best girl on Pandora."
You both spend the next couple hours swimming on a hammock, cuddling and just enjoying the warmth of one another.
Tumblr media
Ao’nung
I don’t think he’s a big cuddler, definitely something that would be a progressive thing. If you’re in public he will sit shoulder to shoulder but nothing more. At home he is more relaxed. He will lay on his back and hold your curled up form next to him. He’s gotta keep that tough guy act.
______________________________________________________________
It was just before eclipse when you went to you and Ao'nung's secret spot. It was an air pocket deep in an underwater cave. Ao'nung was already there, waiting for you as he sat crouched close to the water.
"Were you followed?" Ao'nung asks.
"Hello to you too." you smile hoisting yourself on the edge. "You know I wasn't followed.
"Good. Now I can finally do his." he smirks before tackling you.
Your pined on the ground face littered with his kisses. Both of you just hold each other in the bioluminescent talking and cuddling until it was time to return home. Until tomorrow night when you could do it all over again.
Tumblr media
Rotxo
Another cuddle fan. He wants you to baby him and has no shame in his game. If you’re on the beach his head will be in your lap. PLAY WITH HIS HAIR! He is definitely a little spoon. Such a sweet angel please protect the baby boy.
______________________________________________________________
You were on the beach with Tsireya repairing some saddled when Rotxo flopped next to you.
"How was training?" you ask him, moving your work off your lap.
"I'm exhausted." he sighs putting his head in your lap. "I think the chief went extra hard on us today."
"Well now you can relax while Reya and I finish our work." You smile. You run your hand in his hair for a few minutes until he fell asleep. before resuming you work. "Lo'ak must be coming soon then if training was hard."
"I hope so." Reya giggles. "I've missed him."
Tumblr media
Ronal and Tonowari
I love them so much. They are always having cuddle sessions when they finally go home to teach others. Being the leaders of an entire clan and their well being is a lot of work. They don’t have a specific position they go to, they just wanna hold each other. No matter what Tonowari has a hand on Ronal’s stomach.
______________________________________________________________
Ronal and Tonowari had a long day apart. Tonowari had a meeting with Jake Sully so they can prepare for the coming war with the sky people. Then he had to oversee the training of young warriors. Ronal was busy training Tsireya, Kiri, AND Neytiri on the way of the Tsahik. And with the baby soon coming she could barely keep her eyes open.
"Hello," Ronal yawns when she sees Tonowari enter.
"Hello Ma'Ronal." Tonowari smiles as he lays next to his mate.
"Sorry, I'm very tired." she says. "I don't think I can stay up and talk."
"Then rest, yawnetu." he tells her. Then Tonowari gets into a comfortable position huddled next to Ronal and places a hand on her stomach. "As long as you are near I am the happiest man alive."

Hair Love
Once a month the Omatikaya Clan comes together to do each other's hair. Even though they moved to the Metkayina Clan, the Sully family still continue the tradition. Even sharing this time with their new friends.
Tumblr media
It had been a long morning of chores today. Tuk and I had been assigned to weave new baskets, Tsireya and Kiri were sent to collect various plants, probably for the Tsahik, and the boys went on a hunting trip with some of the adults. After a few hours we all finally finish our chores and group up in our usual spot.
“Ugh, my body feels like mush.” Lo’ak groans as he flops into the sand.
“You probably should’ve gone to bed when you were supposed to.” I giggle.
“Come on, Y/N, we all know your fingers are aching.” Neteyam comments.
“A little.” I admit, flexing my fingers. “How was the herb collection?”
“Great, we have everything we need for our lessons tomorrow.” Tsireya smiles as she plays with Lo’ak’s hair.
“How was the hunting trip?” Kiri asks.
“It was very long.” Ao’nung huffs. “A pxazang swan to out hunting spot.”
“We’re lucky it didn’t spot us.” Rotxo says. “That would have been bad.”
In the distance we hear a chirp that is similar to our ikrans. Tuk, Kiri, and I look at each other with excited smiles. Lo’ak lets out another groan with his head still in the sand while Neteyam gives a small laugh. The other teens look at us in confusion.
“What is it?” Tsireya asks.
“It’s hair day.” I grin. “Once a month our family does each other’s hair.”
“We do it once a month.” Kiri adds. “It helps our family stay connected.”
“You should join us.” Tuk comments.
“Yeah, I’m sure our parents won’t mind.” I agree.
Tsireya, Roxto, and surprisingly Ao’nung follow us back home. We are greeted with our parents’ warm smiles at the front of the entrance. They don’t seem surprised about the additional children at their door
“Hey kids.” Father greets. “Are all your chores done?”
“Yes, sir.” we answer.
“We invited Rotxo, Ao’nung, and Rotxo to join us on this special day.” Kiri tells them. “We hope that’s okay.”
“Of course.” Mother smiles. “Come in.”
All of us enter and sit in the center of the home in a circle. We explain the process of what we do. The first part is taking out our hair so it can be washed. When we finish washing our hair and get back in the circle the metkayina teens start to do their hair.
“You don’t do your own hair sillies.” Tuk  giggles. “We do it together.”
“We do it in pairs.” Kiri adds.
“Why do you do that?” Tsireya asks, curiously.
“Yes, we know how to do our own hair.” Ao’nung says.
“Back in the forest we did this as a clan.” Mother explains. “It gives us time to communicate and build trust.”
“Wait!” Tuk says suddenly, startling many of us. “I’ve collected a few trinkets to decorate our hair.”
Tuk runs to her mat and picks up a box that was set next to it. Then she goes around the circle with a smile, handing everyone a few items ranging from shells to beads and even a flower or two. After that we pick out hair partners. Mother and Father, Neteyam and Tuk, Kiri and Rotxo, Lo’ak and Tsireya, and Ao’nung and I. I get into position to start undoing Ao’nung’s queue but he instantly turns and hisses at me.
“I’m not going to hurt you.” I tell him calmly with my hands up. “I can go first if you would like.”
He just gives a silent nod and trades places with me. After that brief interruption everyone gets comfortable and starts to  braid. The house was full of silence, which is not what hair day is about. This is supposed to be a time to catch up and tell stories.
“Where did you find these beads, Tuk?” I ask. “They remind me of home.”
“I made them from some of the trees in that small forest.” she answers. “Neteyam did have to help me a little.”
“You’re learning very fast.” Neteyam smiles. “I am proud of you.”
“Yeah they look amazing sis.” Lo’ak beams.
“What else have you all learned?” Father asks.
“They taught us how to play a game. They took a rope and swung it in circles.” Tsireya says. “We had to jump over it and not get hit. What was it called again?”
“Jump rope.” Kiri tells her.
“Yeah!” Tsireya responds. “That was very fun.” We continue to talk about the new things we learned, tell stories and socialize in general. It took a few hours for everyone to have their hair freshly done. We play for a few more hours before Tsireya, Ao’nung, and Roxto have to head home. They say that they will tell their parents about today and maybe they can join next time. “That would be wonderful.” mother smiles.
“It can be a new tradition for us.” Tsireya smiles. “That would be wonderful.”

Hi! I was wondering if I could please request a human reader x neteyam or loak and the reader needs to wear glasses and neteyam or loak (or both) are confused because they don’t know what they are. Thank you 😊
Of course!! Just a bit of info, the reader's vision progressively got worse, so they didn't always have glasses.
Tumblr media
Neteyam knows what glasses are and what they are for since he has grown up around humans. He wouldn't be surprised to see you wearing them because I feel like he would notice when you start squinting and bumping into things more. ______________________________________________________________
"Hey y/n where are your glasses?" Neteyam asks.
“It's fine I can see well enough to get around.” You shrug.
"You have them for a reason. Come on." he says as he grabs your hand and starts pulling you back home. "You have to wear them."
"But they're ugly." you whine.
"I want you to be safe." he tells you. "Plus, you'd look cute no matter what."
Tumblr media
Just like Neteyam he knows what glasses are but I think he'd be a little surprised to see you with glasses. Get ready because he will absolutely pick on and tease you a little. but it's all in lighthearted fun and only he can do it.
______________________________________________________________
A na'vi boy had taken you glasses and you had no hope of getting them back. He's been teasing you for a few days now. Always pulling you glasses off and asking dumb questions like how many fingers he is holding.
"Come on." you huff. "Just give me my glasses back."
"If you want them so back come and get em." he smirks. "Four eyes."
"You heard what they said." Lo'ak growls coming behind the boy. "Give it back."
Not wanting to get into trouble with the chef's son, the boy gives you your glasses and backs off. After that you never been bullied about your glasses again.

Back Off
Tumblr media
Some people just don’t know when to quit. But don’t worry Lo’ak will be there to show you who’s boss.
Tumblr media
“Spider.” I whisper poking the boy. “Spider. Wake up.”
“Ugh..what do you want?” he groans, turning his back to me.
“Today is the celebration, remember?” I tell him. “You gotta get up now or we’ll be late.”
“It’s too early.” he whines.
“You know that if we don’t help they won’t save us any food.” I say trying to roll him out of bed. “Come on and get ready.”
“Fine.” he huffs finally getting out of bed. “But I know you just want to see Lo’ak.”
“You’re just mad cause I got a boyfriend.” I giggle. “How are things going with Kiri.”
“Skwang.” he hisses.
I just laugh at him. Spider and I grew up like siblings, both of our parents died in the war a few years before we were born. Both of us were raised alongside the Sully kids. He earned his nickname by being able to climb very well, for a human anyway. And I was given the name Tiny, since I am only 5’4. Lo’ak and I started dating about a year ago, much to his mother’s disappointment. She puts up with us since we are so close to her kids but I can tell she’d rather him be with his own kind.
“Are you ready?” Spider asks, banging on the bathroom door. “Look who’s taking forever now.”
“I want to look my best for the celebration.” I respond, opening the door. “Now I’m ready, let's go.”
We say goodbye to Norm and the other scientists then run off to the village. When we arrive everyone has already started preparations. We go to Jake and Neytiri’s mauri, the whole family is standing in a line while their parents are telling them something.
“Ahhh Spider and Tiny.” Jake smiles and gives a greeting. “We were just giving the kids their assignments, fall in.”
We greet him and Neytiti back. I take a spot between Lo’ak and Tuk while Spider takes a place on the other side of Tuk. Me, Spider, Lo’ak and Neteyam were assigned to gather tumpasuk while Kiri and Tuk will help set up decorations for the celebration. On our way to the tumpasuk tree I’m distracted by a bunch of shimmyflies. Kiri has told me much about them. I do a small dance as they pass my by.
“Come on, Tiny!” Spider calls.
“Yea, we don’t want you getting lost.” Neteyam jokes.
“Here I come!” I say, giving one last glance before I catch up with the boys.
When we arrive at the tree, Spider and I climb to the top while Lo’ak and Neteyam stay on the ground. Since the baskets are too big for us they will catch the fruit that we cut down.
“I wish we didn’t have to wait until we got back to the lab to enjoy the fruit.” I sigh as I turn upside down and begin cutting. “These are my favorites.”
“Maybe the science guys can get us avatars.” Spider suggests.
“Yea, and you two will be big enough to lug these around.” Neteyam laughs.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
We finished gathering the fruit much faster than expected, so Spider and I went back to the labs to get ready for the celebration. I decided on a nice top made of vines that cup my breasts nicely, a long simple loincloth, and arm covers. I added some beads to a few braids and put on a necklace that Lo’ak made me a few months ago.
“Are you kids going to the celebration?” Norm asks, entering the room.
“You know it.” Spider answers.
“Wouldn’t miss it for anything.” I say with a big smile.
“We can go together.” Norm smiles. “Just meet me where the avatars are.”
“Speaking of avatars.” I say walking up to him with my sweetest smile. “Spider and I were wondering if we would be able to get one of our own.”
“Hmmmm….that should be possible.” Norm answers, thoughtfully. “I can’t make any promises but I will definitely bring it up with the other scientists.”
“You’re amazing.” I say giving him a hug. “See you at the celebration!”
Spider and I head to the avatar’s barracks while Norm is getting ready to link with his avatar. When we arrive the celebration is in full swing. It’s a mix of Na’vi, Avatars, and humans all enjoying the fun atmosphere. Before I could look for Lo’ak, Kiri came and dragged me onto the dance floor. When I try to back out she just keeps pulling me back. Finally, I decide that I can look for him later and start to let loose on the dance floor.
“You’ve gotten better, sister.” Kiri smiles.
“Yea, your lesson really helped.” I responded.
A few minutes later I feel someone come behind me and start to dance closely. I smile and turn around because Lo’ak must have found me. But once I turn around my smile drops because it’s not Lo’ak.
“How come a pretty thing like you is dancing all alone.” he smirks down at me. “I’m Aimo.”
“Actually, I was dancing with my sister.” I explain.
“My apologies.” he says looking at Kiri, then he grabs my hips. “Would I be able to borrow her for a bit.”
“Actually, no.” I answer, trying to remove his hands. We were actually going to go find my boyfriend.”
I wiggle out of his grasp, take Kiri’s hand and hurry away. Luckily Lo’ak was with Neteyam getting a plate of food so he was too busy to see what happened. Since I am human no one tries to flirt with me but that doesn’t stop Lo’ak from being possessive over me.
“Hey babe.” Lo’ak waves as Kiri and I approach them. “You look great.”
“Thank you.” I blush, giving a small twirl.
“Hey narlor!” a voice calls, to my horror it Aimo.. “You don’t have to be shy.”
“Who are you?” Lo’ak questions as he gets in front of me. “Why are you speaking to my girlfriend?”
“So she wasn’t lying.” the boy smirks, he peers around Lo’ak to talk to me. “Why are you with this loser? I can provide for you better than he ever could.”
“You better watch it.” Lo’ak growls, clenching his fists.
“Lo, calm down.” I say, gently taking his fist in my hands. “This is supposed to be a celebration.”
“Yea bro,” Neteyam agrees, putting a hand on Lo’ak’s shoulder, “Come let's go listen to the music.”
“Sure, whatever.” he says.
He grasps my hand and the four of us leave. I thought that would be the end of the situation but of course Aimo had to get the last word.
“Enjoy her now.” he calls after us. “By tomorrow she’ll be mine.“
Lo’ak tackles him to the ground and starts to punch him in the face. But Aimo managed to knee him in the stomach and flip them over. The whole celebration stops as everyone turns to the two boys. The fight is full of hissing, growling, and punches. It doesn’t last very long before Jake makes his way to the fight. He pulls the boys apart by their necks. Two adult navi, who must be the boy’s parents, come when they notice the olo’eyktan speaking to their child.
“What happened?” the woman asks, shocked.
“Let’s go somewhere private.” Jake answers. Then he turns back to the crowd. “Please, continue on. This is supposed to be a celebration.”
The party restarts but it’s more tense as we walk away. When we arrive at Jake’s marui everyone kneels, except for him.
“What happened?” Jake questions, looking down at the two boys.
“Lo’ak attacked me for speaking to the human girl.” Aimo answers looking down.
“Try telling the full story.” Lo’ak growls. “She said she had a boyfriend. You should have buzzed off.”
“Lo’ak.” Jake says, sternly. “You are supposed to be a leader. You can not get into meaningless fights like this.”
“But sir-”
“I don’t want to hear it.” Jake interrupts. “Apologize.”
“Excuse me, sir.” I whisper. I feel instant regret because now everyone is staring at him. “He was giving me unwanted attention. I did mention that I had a boyfriend but he decided to follow me. Lo’ak was going to walk away but he was egged on.”
“Is this true?” Jake asks, looking at the boys, who both nod.
“You both bring dishonor. Lo’ak for getting into this fight instead of choosing peace.” Jake starts, then he turns to Aimo. “And you for going after the love of another. We are supposed to be united as people, as a village.”
“I apologize for attacking you.” Lo’ak says through gritted teeth.
“And I am sorry for speaking poorly of your love.” Aimo says, equally as resistant.
“You all are dismissed.” Jake says. “I do not want any more interruptions during this celebration.
We all disperse. Jake, Aimo, and Aimo’s parents go back to the celebration but Lo’ak took my hand and lead me through the forest. Together we climbed a tree and cuddled on a branch.
“Thank you for protecting me.” I smile, snuggling into his chest.
“Anything for you, my love.” He responds.
——————————————————————————————
A/N: this was my first request. I hope you enjoyed it. I’m super excited about it.

Boy From the Sea
Your family finds safety among the reefs. But you find something more than safety. (Warnings: Spoilers)
Tumblr media
Father says we must find a new place to live so we can be safe. We’ve been flying on our ikrans for days with no clear idea of where we will live. I think after the fourth day the sea went from so dark you can’t see past the surface to crystal clear to the point where we can see the many sea creatures swimming at the bottom.
“Hey Kiri!” I smile, pointing down to the many animals. “Look!”
“I know!” she smiles back.
“Dad,” TukTuk calls from mother’s ikran, “is this going ro be our new home?”
“I hope so, babygirl.” Father answers.
Further ahead is an island, a Metkayina village. As we get closer I can see all the reef na’vi living their lives, fishing, weaving, or even playing together in the water. Once they saw us flying around a horn was sounded and calls were made. It seems like all of them stop what they are doing and start to gather around.
“Okay everyone, be nice.” Father tells us getting off of Bob. “Be cool.”
My siblings jump off their ikrans and follow our father. But it feels like I’ve been glued to the saddle. Will they attack us? Why are they staring at us like that? Are the clan leaders going to let us stay? What if -
“Y/N.” Lo'ak says gently, taking me out of my thoughts. Then he holds his hand out to me. “Let’s go together.”
I grab his hand and get off my ikran. Together we join our family in the center of the growing crowd, hand and hand. Even though we are the same age Lo’ak is definitely more outgoing while I am on the shy side. The crowd parts for two boys, they seem to be our age. We greet them, which they ignore.
“What is that?” the shorter one teasingly laughs. “Is that supposed to be a tail?”
Next a girl comes next to them and smacks their hands.
“Ao’nung. Rotxo.” she growls.
When she’s done scolding the pair she looks at Lo’ak with a shy smile.
“Hey.” he smirks.
I giggle and bump him with my hip. He retaliates by pulling me into a noogie.
“Stop it, you two.” Neteyam warns. “We need to make a good first impression
Lo’ak frees me from his grasp and takes my hand once more. The group parts again, this time for the clan leaders, Tonowari and Ronal. Each of us follows our father’s actions and greets them both. Only Tonowari returns it.
“Why do you come to us Jake Sully?” Tonowari asks.
“We seek uturu.” father announces.
“Uturu?” Ronal questions.
“A sanctuary for my family," he explains.
”We are reef people, you are forest people.” Tonowari points out. “Your skills will mean nothing here.”
I didn’t hear my father’s response. Ronal has captured my attention because she has started to circle us. She is inspecting our bodies, probably judging if we can even be useful at all. She grabs TukTuk’s arms and lifts one of mother’s.
“Their arms are thin.” she comments, next she tugs on my tail. “Their tails...weak. They will be slow in the water.”
“Ow.” I whine, bringing my tail into my free hand.
She walks another lap around us.This time she grabs onto Kiri’s hands and snarls in disgust.
“These kids are not even true na’vi.” she claims, holding up Kiri’s hands before she takes Lo’ak’s hand from mine and holds his up as well. “They have demon blood!”
Lo’ak pulls his hands away from her and holds my hand again. As I look around I see many different reactions. The one that hurt the most was the parents pulling their children, who probably were TukTuk’s age, protectively behind them. Do they think we are a threat? Why are they acting like this? We aren’t demons, our father is a war hero. We came peacefully. Why do they feel like this about us?
“Look! Look at me!” father says trying to get the attention back on him. “See, I was born of the sky people and now I am na’vi. We will adapt.”
“Jake Sully is a great war hero. Many know of his story.” Tonowari says to the crowd then turns to father. “But we Metkayina are not at war. We cannot let you bring your war here.
“I am done with war. All of it is behind me.” Father responds. “Please, I just want to keep my family safe.”
Tonowari and Ronal have a silent conversation with each other. I hope that they will let us stay, no matter how rude they are being. One night when they thought all of us were asleep they talked about living situations. Father had suggested that we live alone in a different forest, separate from any clan. Luckily, mother had talked him out of it, explaining how we need to grow in a community and learn what they couldn’t teach. I still don’t understand why we couldn’t just stay home. Father fought the sky people before, surely he can do it again.
“Jake Sully and his family will stay. Treat them like our own brothers and sisters.” Tonowari finally announces He waves a hand to the girl and one of the boys. “My son, Ao’nung, and daughter, Tsireya, will show your kids what to do.”
“But, why-”
“It is decided.” Tonowari interrupts. Then he addresses the crowd once more. “They will be like babies taking their first breath. Help them so they do not suffer the same as being useless.”
“Alright, what do we say?” Father asks.
We all give annoyed or relieved thank yous.
“Come,” Tsireya smiles,”I will show you to your new home.”
We go back to our ikran to unpack some things to take into the home. I catch a glimpse of the shorter boy, Rotxo, coming to my side..
“What’s your name?” he asks sweetly and holds out his hand. “Do you need help?”
“Here you can carry this for me.” Neteyam makes his way to us and hands Rotxo an arm full of items. I’m Neteyam by the way.”
“Oh…uh….n-no problem.” Rotxo says politely then goes to catch up with Tsireya.
“Thanks Neteyam.” I say.
“You’re going to have to come out of your shell sometime baby sis.” He playfully laughs while putting a hand on my head. “Let’s go see our new home.”
We leave the shore and head for the huge tree. Its large roots stretch over the water, which has walkways and mauri’s woven in between them. I stumbled a few times as we made our way to our new home. The walkway was bouncy with every step taken and TukTuk didn’t help by bouncing the whole way.
“Y/N, are you going to sleep next to me every night?” TukTuk asks with an excited smile on her face.
“If that’s what you would like sister,” I smile.
“This place is nice isn’t it?” father asks, looking around with a hopeful smile. “Right.”
Mother just sighs and drops the carpet that she was carrying, it startled us a bit.
“Once you are all settled you can come find us.” Tsireya says sweetly. “We will show your children around the reefs.”
“Thank you, Tsireya.” father tells her.
We finished getting out things and setting up our new home. When we finish, father gathers us to have a family meeting.
“I need you kids to be on your best behavior. All of you need to stay out of trouble.” Father starts, then he looks at Lo’ak. “I mean it.”
“Yes, sir.” Lo’ak responds. He gives a hiss when Neteyam playfully grabs his neck.
“Make sure you learn fast and pull your weight,” he adds.
“We got this father.” I smile. “We will make you proud.
“That’s my girl.” Father smiles, nugging me.
“I want to go home.” TukTuk says with eyes full of tears.
“I know, but this is our home now.” father tells her gently.
“We will make the most of it.” I say while pulling her into a hug. “I know you love to see new places. I’m sure we’ll have many new adventures and memories.”
“What does your father always say?” mother asks, trying to lighten the mood.
“Sullys stick together.” we say.
“Right, now this time with more feeling.” Father smiles.
“Sullys stick together.” we say a little louder.
________________________________________________________________
We met up with the metkayina teens who are going to show us their way of life. The three of them gracefully dived into the water. My siblings cannonball into the water while I slowly ease myself in. Surprisingly, the water was warm and welcoming, not icy cold like I was expecting. I thought the animals looked amazing from when we were flying but they are better up close. Tiny gray fish with black and yellow marking swam around in a school that was easily over one hundred. Another sea creature was about as big as my head. It’s a yellow creature with black and white stripes. Next thing I know Lo’ak is swimming to my side and pointing ahead. Rotxo, Ao’nung, and Tsireya are swimming very fast ahead of us. We did our best to follow but it was getting harder and harder to hold our breath.
My siblings and I swim to the top to catch our breath. When we poke our heads underwater Tsireya moves her hands in a weird pattern. When she realizes that we do not understand she makes a signal for us to follow them. So we take another deep breath then dive back in. As we swim on it seems like about a dozen fish about the size of my finger swam by to say hello. I reach out to touch one but they scatter away, I guess I don’t have Kiri’s spiritual connection just yet. Then I feel a hand pull on my arm. It’s time to go up for another breath of air.
“Are you okay?” Tsireya asks, joining us at the surface.
“You’re too fast.” TukTuk whines. “Wait for us.”
“Just breath,” Tsireya advises.
“You are not good divers.” Ao’nung smirks, he pops up next to me that I flinch. “Maybe good at swinging through trees but-”
Tsirerya smacks his head before he could finish the comment. Rotxo comes up last with a worried look.
“Kiri?” he asks. “Where is Kiri?”
“Kiri?” Neteyam asks, looking around, confused.
“I swear she was right here.” I say looking around with him.
“Who?” Ao’nung asks.
Everyone gives him a side-eye and Tsireya hits him once more. We all dive back under the water to go look for our missing group member. Somewhere on the way Rotxo picks an underwater flower. It’s a dark purple in the center but starts to turn brighter towards the end of the petals. Then he swam right under me and put the flower in my hair with a small smile. Next thing I know he and Lo’ak are pulling me to the surface because the actin caused me to forget I was holding my breath.
“What did you do?” Lo’ak growls.
“No,Lo, I’m fine…promise.” I cough.
”Are you okay?” TukTuk asks, taking my hand in hers.
“Yes TukTuk.” I say. “I’m fine. Come let’s finish finding Kiri.”
We found Kiri swimming around with different animals. After our tour around the reefs we go home to our mauri. Mother and Father aer waiting for us, already starting dinner.
“Mama! Daddy!” TukTuk beams.
“How’s my baby girl?” father coos scooping TukTuk in his lap. “How was the swim?”
“It was wonderful.” Kiri answers dreamily, taking a seat next to mother.
“That’s a lovely flower, Y/N.” Mother comments brushing my hair aside.
“Roxtxo gave it to her.” Lo’ak comments.
“How sweet of him.” Mother responds.
________________________________________________________________
Today is our next lesson, riding ilu. Ao’nung makes chirping and clicking sounds. A group of the creatures circled around him, making the same sounds in response.
“These are ilu.” he tells us. “If you want to live here, you must learn to ride.”
Tsireya is going to teach Lo’ak and Tuk while Ao’nung will teach Neteyam and I. Neteyam gets on first, Ao’nung doesn’t check his posture much before sending him off. To none of our surprise Neteyam stays on the creature. He’s always been a natural at things. Back home he was the best hunter among his age group, Before I get on next I see Lo’ak dive into the water on the back of an ilu. But the animal is moving so fast it sends him flying off. Everyone starts to laugh at his failure, even the ilu came back to splash and laugh at him. Now I’m faced with my own, patiently waiting infront of me.
“What are you waiting for?” Ao’nung asks impatiently. “Get on.”
“I..um..” I stutter.
“Just get on.” he sighs. “I have better things to do than wait for a scaredy cat like you.”
“I can help her.” Rotxo offers.
Rotxo gently takes my hand and guides me onto the animal. He shows me where to hold and adjusts my posture where it’s needed. When he is done he takes a step back to look at me. I can feel the heat in my body rising waiting for him to comment on something. Or even tease me again about how children younger than me aren’t cared of an ilu.
“Looking good. Now when you take off start out slow then build speed.” he says insteads. “Also you want to have good posture when you go under the water.”
At first I just stared ahead. I don’t think I'm ready for this. What if I fall off? What if they laugh? Will I get hurt? What if I choke on the water? How do-
“Just take calm slow breaths.” Rotxo advises, getting on a ilu. “Here let’s ride together.”
He counts to three then we take off into the water. I do as he instructs and start out slow. But she insists that we go faster and starts to move. I have to adjust my grip but somehow I stay on. I look next to me and there’s Rotxo, who I give a wave and an excited smile. I'm actually riding and staying on. Then Neteyam swims around me followed by Kiri and TukTuk, she looks so adorable riding her own smaller ilu, coming to my side. The three of us swim to the top.
“Where’s Lo?” I ask.
Suddenly, he pops up from the surface with a huge smile.
“This is insane cuz!” he laughs.
“Yea, it’s so cool.” I agree
“You all are doing so well.” Tsireya joins. “I am proud of you all.
We spend the rest of the day swimming with the ilu and learning different games that we can play. The Metkayina are so different from us and it is marvelous to learn their ways. Our ikran are dangerous and it is a rite of passage for us forest na’vi. Also they will only bond with one rider for life. But ilu are very sweet and social. Unlike ikran, they don’t bond for life.
________________________________________________________________
It was pretty early in the morning when Rotxo came to our mauri. We were up and eating breakfast
“Hello, Rotxo.” mother greets. “What can we do for you?”
“I was wondering if Y/N would like to go for a walk.” he answers shyly.
“Can I?” I ask, looking at my parents.
“Just you two?” father asks, nearly choking on his food. “Alone?”
“Ma Jake.” mother warns then turns back to me. “Of course you can sweetie, finish your food first.”
Once I finish breakfast I freshen up really quick, say bye to my family, and head out with Rotxo. We walked to a clearing at the edge of the forest that was close to the village. Yesterday, we agreed to meet early so we can learn more about each other’s culture.
“So what do you want to know?” I ask as we sit down.
“How about we start with animals?” he suggests. “Do you have anything like an ilu?
“Hmmmm...I dont think so.” I answer. “Ikran are the most common to ride but there is a rite of passage we must complete. Also they are too dangerous for young na’vi to ride alone.”
“What do you mean?” he asks, confused.
“They are very dangerous. I guess they are closer to a skiwing.” I explained. “We know we are meant to have the ikran that tries to kill us.”
“Really?!” he asks, shocked. “Our skimwings are dangerous but I don’t think they’d try to harm us.”
“But just the feeling when the bond is finally made is amazing.” I say dreamily, thinking back to when I first bonded with Paskalin. “Like you two are meant to be together forever.”
“I completely understand.” Rotxo says, suddenly getting shy and turning away. “It’s how I felt when I first saw you.”
“What?” I ask. “You made fun of my brothers and I.”
“I’m sure you can tell what kind of naviAo’nung is.” he sighs. “He’s been my best friend since we were born. So when I saw a stunning na’vi girl who I knew wouldn’t be accepted by him, I got scared.”
“Well, what changed?” I ask, still confused. I try to look into his eyes but he avoids my gaze by keeping his head down. “I don’t think we’re accepted just yet, so why tell me this?”
“I guess, I was scared of never being with the person I feel like I’m destined to be with,” he admits. “My grandma would tell me stories about how she and my grandpa fell in love. She said that when they saw each other for the first time they were in awe and their hearts started to race. That’s how I felt when I saw you. You are the perfect beauty who I wish to be in my life forever.”
“I like you too.” I responded awkwardly. “You scared me at first but spending time with you and getting to know the real you. I’ve grown very fond of you.”
“So would I be able to court you?” he asks, finally looking up at me.
“If you can make it past my father and brothers.” I joke.

Return to Me Pt.3
Tumblr media
Warning: Spoilers, mentions of death, mentions of war
______________________________________________________________
It took a few weeks but we all somehow forgave Ao’nung. He still tries to go out with me but I deny him every time. My family may trust him now but I don’t, yet. Lo’ak had been sneaking out for hours during the day. When we finally confronted him he gathered our group on the top of a hill. He said he was attacked by an akula but a tulkun saved his life. He has been sneaking out to be with the tulkun ever since.
“I wish I was there.” Kiri smiles. “The ocean gave you a gift, brother.”
“But the tulkun has not come back.” Ao’nung comments. “Also no tulkun travels alone.”
“This one was.” Lo’ak insists, then he points to his arm. “He had a…a missing fin.”
“It’s Payakan.” Tsireya signs, grabbling Lo’ak then turns to us. “Guys, it’s Payakan.”
“Who’s Payakan?” I ask, confused.
“A young bull who went rogue.” Rotxo explains. “He’s an outcast.”
“Why is he an outcast?” Neteyam asks.
“He killed Na’vi…and other tulkun.” Ao’nung answers. “Not here, but somewhere in the south.”
“There must be an explanation.” ‘Lo’ak says. “He saved my life.” “You're lucky to be alive.” Tsireya tells him. “Ah, my younger brother.” Neteyam smiles as he puts his hands on Lo’ak’s shoulders. “He fought off a killer tulkun and lived to tell the tale.” “You’re not listening to me.” Lo’ak huff, standing up, “No. No, Lo’ak.” Tuk calls. “I’m listening.” “Lo’ak you skxawng.” Kiri calls. “Aw Lo,” I say, “come back.” But he just walks off without a second look our way. I turn back to the group. “We should follow him.” I say, mostly to Neteyam. “We should meet the being that saved him.” “Did you not hear what we said?” Ao’nung questions. “Yea, Y/N, they said that he was a killer.” Neteyam nods. “He shouldn’t be meeting with Payakan anymore.” “Well if Lo says Payakan saved his life, I believe him.” I responded. “Plus we both know that he’s just going to keep sneaking off.” Lo’ak ended up sneaking off after dinner. It made sense because all the chores were done and we were allowed to have some free time. Once Neteyam and I realized that he was leaving we grabbed Ao’nung, Rotxo, and Tsireya. We trailed Lo’ak to the place where Ao’nung and his friends left him. When the two reunited they mostly played and swam together. ‘See, I knew he wasn't crazy.’ I signed to Neteyam. ‘They’re friends.’
‘He is a killer.’ Neteyam responds looking frustrated.
Then Lo’ak and Payakan dive under the water together. Payakan opened his mouth wide and Lo’ak swam in. Once he was inside Payakan closed his mouth. Neteyam and I went to swim after him but the metkayina stopped us.
‘Stop.’ Tsireya said before focusing back on the tulkun.
‘What is going on?’ I ask.
______________________________________________________________________
“You allowed this!” Ronal shouts to Tsireya and Ao’nung. “You allowed him to bond with the outcast!” “Tsireya.” Tonowari says gravely. “You disappoint me, daughter.” I wish I could comfort the girl. I can see the tears in her eyes after her father said that. Why is it even that bad that they are bonded? A relationship between a forest na’vi and a tulkun should be celebrated. I see Sempu and Sa’nu join us in the clan leader’s home. “And you, son of a great warrior.” Tonowari says turning to Lo’ak. “Who has been taught better.”
“Payakan saved my life, sir.” Lo’ak explains. “You don’t know him.” “No, Lo’ak.” Tsireya whispers. “Sit...sit.” Tonwari says. Him and Lo’ak kneel on the ground. When the rest of us stay standing he screams. “Sit down!” He began to explain to us how the tulkun used to fight and kill for territory or revenge. Eventually, they realized that killing was wrong and decided to forbid it. Payakan was forced into being an outcast because he went against the tulkun way.
“Im sorry, sir.” Lo’ak responds once the story is over. “But you’re wrong.” “Lo’ak.” Sa’nu hisses. “You speak to Olo’eyktan.” “I know what…” “That’s enough.” father growls. We try to stop Lo’ak from speaking more by shaking our heads but he insists on speaking. “I know what I know.” he says. Sempu grips Lo’ak’s arm and carries him away, he’s definitely going to be in so much trouble. We say goodbye to the clan leader and their children then follow our parents. Sa’nu decided to talk to us separately. “This is also on you two.” she says. “What do you have to say?” “I am sorry mother.” Neteyam says, head and ears low. “We will do better.” “Sa’nu if Payakan saved Lo’ak we should be happy.” I say. “I believe that Payakan is not a killer.” “You do not know that.” she says. “Why must you make things hard, Y/N.” “I speak my mind, Sa’nu.” I answer. “Honestly, I am proud of my brother. Aside from Kiri, he is the most adapted to this life.” “That’s enough.” Sa’nu sighs. “Y/N, we must live their way. If Payakan is an outcast who isn’t meant to have a bond we must respect that.” ______________________________________________________________________
Days later, Ronal’s spirit sister, Ro’a, and her calf came to the shore dead. The metkayina gathered around and were riled up. They are ready to start a war now. At first the tawtute were killing tulkun far away. Sadly, Ro’a is the first to be killed so close to the village and everyone fears that their sibling might be next. “You gotta understand how the tawtute think.” Sempu tries to explain. “They don’t care about the Great Balance.” “Listen!” Neteyam says, trying to get the crowd to focus on Sempu’s words. “Listen to him!” I add. “You must tell the tulkun to leave!” Sempu says. “Tell them to go far away!” “Ao’nung,” I frown, “Please, understand.” “I understand we must protect our family.” Ao’nung growls. “We must fight the tawtute!” “You live among us.” Ronal says. “You have learned nothing!” One of the warrior’s says that they will fight to protect their brothers and sisters which riles the crowd up more. My family and I try to get through to them by talking about what we have experienced back in the forest. They need to think rationally but they are too consumed by rage to listen. Then father takes the pinger from Neteyam and holds it to the crowd. They go silent instantly. “You tell the tulku, if they are hit with one of these they are marked for death.”  Sempu says, holding it around so they can get a good look at it. “Then call for me, I will silence it.” Everyone scatters to find their sibling and warn them of danger. I see Neteyam follow Lo’ak but I want to go with Ao’nung. I met with his spirit brother when the tulkun came home. He has become important to me as well so I get on an ilu and follow after Ao’nung.
‘What is wrong, brother?’ the tulkun asks when he sees us. ‘The sky people are using devices to track tulkun.’ Ao’nung explains. ‘When you are hit you are marked for death.’
‘You must warn the others.’ I add. ‘Thank you for telling me,’ the tulkun says. ‘I will stay alert and warn the others.’
‘We will see you again.’  Ao’nung says. ‘Be safe, brother.’ the tulkun says, then he turns to me. ‘Please protect him.’
‘I promise.’ I answer.
______________________________________________________________________
When Tsireya, Ao’nung, Rotxo and I return we see Lo’ak diving into the water. “What is going on?” I question. “He’s going to Payakan.” he answers. “Come on!” Once again we dive in the water getting on ilus, this time I ride on my own. “Come back!” Neteyam yells. But Lo’ak swims on, past Kiri and Tuk. They looked at Neteyam and I with confused expressions. “He’s going to warn Payakan.” I tell them. “We gotta go.” “Wait up.” I hear Kiri say before we dive back underwater. We follow Lo’ak outside the reefs. Soon Payakan surfaces as well. When we catch up we can see Payakan has been hit by a pinger, which Lo’ak is trying to get out. “Bro come on.” Lo’ak says. “There’s a ship coming.” One by one Neteyam helps everyone on top of Payakan. Each of us takes a hold and starts to pull. But the pinger was logged deep in the poor tulkun’s skin. “Call it in.” Neteyam tells Lo’ak. “Call dad.” “Just go!” I yell when he hesitates. “Call Sepmu!” We continue to struggle as Lo’ak explains to Sempu our situation. “It’s getting closer.” Tsireya cries. Neteyam calls his ilu back, grabs a robe, then tosses it to me. I tie one end to the pinger while he wraps the other side around the ilu. After a few more seconds we finally get the pinger free, causing everyone to fall into the ocean. Neteyam holds on to the pinger.
“Go that way!” he tells us. “I’ll draw them off.” “I’m going with you.” I say. “No, you must protect the group.” he tells me. “Promise me you’ll return to me.” I say holding out my pinky. “Y/N there’s no-” “Promise me!” I shout over him. “I can’t do this without you.” “I promise.” he says, finally wrapping his pinky around mine. “Now go!” We hop on our ilus and hide among some vines as Neteyam swims in the opposite direction. The ship goes after him but crab-like machines start to chase us. We tried to lose them in the vines but I wasn’t able to last long before I fell off. Luckily, Ao’nung comes to my rescue before I’m grabbed by one of the claws. Soon we must abandon the ilu all together as we swim to an air pocket. That’s when I notice Tuk isn’t with us. “Where is Tuk?” I ask. “She fell off.” Kiri answers, worriedly. “Have you seen her?” “No, but we will find her.” Ao’nung says. When we leave the air pocket the first thing I see is Neteyam swimming back to us. ‘Sister, you must come with me.’ he signs, then turns to the others. ‘Get to safety we will return.’
‘What is going on?’ Rotxo asks.
‘They have our sisters.’ Neteyam explains. ‘Including Tsireya.’
‘I’m coming too.’ Ao’nung responds. ‘I must protect my sister and loved one.’
‘We will be fine.’ I told him. ‘We will get them. You must watch over Rotxo and Kiri.’
Ao’nung holds my face in his hand and I grip it, a silent promise that we will meet again. After that I get on the back of Neteyam’s ilu. Payakan beats us to the demon ship, attacking them first which gets the war started. So many things are happening, warriors attacking humans, gun fire, fires starting. Something crashes into the ship and sets it on fire. Then the ship starts to speed into a rock. I had to hold on tighter because Neteyam has the ilu go as fast as it can. Finally we reach the ship and jump aboard. I go to cut Tsireya free while Neteyam goes to Tuk. “Twins.” Tuk smiles. “Who’s the mighty warrior?” Neteyam says moving to Lo’ak to get his restraints. “Come on say it.” “Bro.” Lo’ak laughs. “Let’s go.” I say when everyone is free. We run to the edge of the ship but Lo’ak goes in a different direction. He goes to one of the dead Avatar’s and takes their gun. “Lo’ak!” Neteyam calls.
“What are you doing?” I ask. “They have Spider.” he explains. “We have to go get him.” “Tsireya, get Tuk to safety.” I say then I go to Lo’ak’s side. “Come on, Yamyam.” “We can’t leave him.” Lo’ak adds. With a reluctant hiss, Neteyam follows us into the ship. We have to sneak around for a few minutes but soon we find Spider. He is being escorted by tawtute somewhere. The three of us jump down from our hiding spot and ambush them. It doesn’t take long for the four of us to take them down. “It’s good to see you, monkey boy.” I smile, ruffling Spider’s dreads. “Thanks guys.” He smiles. Lo’ak doesn’t respond, he aims the gun at a target. I look the same way he is and there’s a bald Avatar with a gun pointed at us. I push Spider out of the way as Neteyam does the same for Lo’ak. We barely make it out of the way before he starts to shoot at us. Neteyam pulls the gun from Lo’ak and starts to return the fire. “Go! Go! Go!” he yells, still shooting back. The three of us dive in the water. The boys are reuniting and celebrating getting away. Finally, Neteyam dives into the water as well. We swim to the surface,  Tsireya is waiting for us. “Get on.” she says. “You skxawng.” Neteyam groans when he comes to the surface. “I’m shot.” The world freezes. There’s no way that he was hit. This must be a dream…or a nightmare. “Y/N, help us get him on the ilu.” Lo’ak says, snapping me out of my shock. “They have Kiri and Tuk.”Tsireya tells us once we leave. “We can’t go back.” Lo’ak responds. “Neteyam needs help.” I add. “Don’t worry…sis.” Neteyam gasps. “I’m…going…to be…fine.” “I know brother,” I responds. “We’re going to get help.” We find Sempu on a rock nearby. We quickly make our way to him doing our best to keep Neteyam above the water. Sempu lays Neteyam on the ground and checks out the wound. He doesn’t need to say anything, I can already tell, Neteyam will not make it. “Put pressure on the wound,” Sempu says, grabbing Lo’ak’s hands and placing them on the wound. Sa’nu joins us on the rock. She is screaming and taking hold of Neteyam. “Dad….I want to go home.” Neteyam chokes out. “We are.” Sempu says. “No Neteyam,” I cry, placing my hand over Lo’ak’s. “Stay with us.” “Mother no take,” Sa’nu starts to chant. “Mother no take!” “Dad I-” Neteyam stops struggling and goes still. I hear an animalistic scream, my scream. My twin has been killed. What am I going to do without my other half? I swear when I see that Avatar I will rip him to shreds. I will avenge my brother.

Return to Me Pt. 2
Tumblr media
A group of us gather at the shallow end of the ocean. Ao’nung makes chirping and clicking sounds. A few ilu come and swim around him in response. They look like very sweet creatures, unlike ikrans. “These are ilu,” he says looking at each one of us. “If you want to live here, you must learn to ride.
Lo’ak is the first to mount the creature. Tsireya checks his position and gives a few tips before sending him off. But once underwater the ilu moved too fast and sent Lo’ak flying off. Everyone was laughing including the ilu that came back just to splash at him before swimming off again.
“Ok forest girl.” Ao’nung says guiding a ilu next to me. “Your turn.”
“I think I’ll let Tsireya show me.” I say turning my back him.
“What, you don’t trust me?” he pouts mockingly. “I didn’t know forest warriors were such cowards.”
“I’m not a coward.” I growl hopping onto the creature. “Tell me what to do, sea creature.”
“First you must make the bond gently, then hold on tight.” he instructs, holding the ilu’s queue to me so I can make the bond.
“Start out slow and then build speed. If you go too fast you’ll bite it like your brother did.”
“Got it.” I nod, determined.
He walks around me, checking my posture. He does have to adjust my posture before sending me off. I do a few laps under the water before circling back to the group.
“Woo hoo!” I yell, pumping a fist in the air. “I told you I wasn’t a coward, Sea Creature!”
“Hell yea sis!” Lo’ak cheers. “Give me five!”
“I knew that if I could tame an ikran I could tame a sweet little ilu.” I smirk.
She didn’t like that. After I finished my sentence, the ilu flipped me off her back and into the ocean. Everyone started to laugh, including me. I know war is looming over us, but it feels amazing to be a kid for once.
“I’m impressed, forest girl,” he comments with a smirk, helping up.
“Ilu’s are very sweet but a little petty.”
“I know that now.” I smile softly. Suddenly, Lo’ak gets in front of me, breaking us apart.
“Back off my sister, fish lips.” Lo’ak growls.
“Chill Lo,” I say, giving Lo’ak a noogie. “Let him praise my awesomeness.”
______________________________________________________________________
We’ve been in Awa’altu for about two weeks. Everyone is improving rapidly. Now we can keep up with the other kids and hold our breath just as long. Since we got our chores done early, Neteyam and I go for an ilu ride.
“So what did you want to show me?” Neteyam asks.
“Sassy and I have learned some new tricks.” I grin. “I thought that you’d like the honor of being the first to see them.
“I’ll patch up your boo-boos when you fail.” he laughs.
“We’ll show you.” I told him. “Ready Sassy?”
She makes a clicking sound which I take as agreement. I take a deep breath and we dive deep under the water then swim back to the top at top speed. When we break the surface we go a few feet in the air, I go no hands for a few seconds then grab back on when we dive back in. Next we swim a good distance away then turn around and head back to where Neteyam is. When we resurface this time we go a flip over Neteyam, who looks shocked and impressed.
“Close your mouth Yamyam,” I laugh, coming back to his side. “You’re going to catch bugs.”
“How did you learn that?” he questions. “We haven’t been here that long.”
“You know I like to do tricks.” I shrug. “I found out so does this little fella.”
“I bet I can do it too.” Neteyam challenges..
“It’s ok to be the lame twin bro.” I playfully frown and put a hand on his shoulder. “I can be cool for the both of us.
“You’re not-” Neteyam stops mid-sentence..
“What?” I laugh. “Thanator got your tongue?”
He doesn’t respond, just points at the beach. Lo’ak is being picked on by Ao’nung and his friends. Even though we’ve been here for a few weeks and quickly adapting, Ao’nung still gives us grief, mostly Lo’ak and Kiri. We make our way to the group on the beach. Neteyam pushes Ao’nung so they are facing one another while I check on our younger siblings. After confirming that they weren’t hurt I go to Neteyam’s side as support.
“You heard what she said.” he says, getting in Ao’nung’s face. “Leave them alone.” “Oh big brother coming to-” Ao’nung interrupted his friend.
I clench my fists at my side. Sempu wants us to stay out of trouble but I would love a good fight.
“Back off,” Neteyam growls, pushing Ao’nung back with a finger. “Now.”
Ao’nung puts his hands up and backs away. His friend hisses but is quieted again by Ao’nung. But he’s not going to get away with that so I hiss back. This causes Neteyam to nudge me.
“From now on, I need you to respect my family.” Neteyam says, looking at each of the teens. Then he turns his attention to us. “Let’s go.”
“We head out together, ignoring the insults they send our way. Well, almost. Lo’ak turns back around and starts to walk up to Ao’nung.
“Lo’ak.” Neteyam warns, his tail curling up.
”It’s cool,” he says. “I got this.”
“Good, I’ve been itching for a fight.” I whisper.
“We’re not supposed to cause any trouble, remember?” Neteyam says, giving me a side eye.
We watch as Lo’ak goes back up to the group of boys. He starts to play with his pinky then balls it into a fist. Then he punches Ao’nung in the face, sending him to the ground with a shocked look on his face.
“It’s called a punch bitch!” Lo’ak says. “Never touch my sister again.
After that Ao’nung friends ganged up on Lo’ak. One pushed him to the ground while another tail slapped him in the face. Neteyam and I go to his aid. I tackle the one that is pulling on his tail then start to hit and bite him. Lo’ak has one by the ear and they tussle around in the sand. Neteyam takes on Ao’nung and one of his friends. Kiri’s cries of us to stop fighting falls on deaf ears.
______________________________________________________________________ Sempu led us into the mauri after he found out about the fight.
“What was  the one thing I asked?” he asks. “The one thing?”
“Stay out of trouble.” we grumble.
”Stay out of trouble.” Sempu repeats.
“Look, it was our fault.” Neteyam and I say, trying to protect Lo’ak.
“Neteyam you have to stop taking the heat for these knuckleheads.” Sempu sighs. “Y/N, why can’t you be a peacemaker, like Neteyam? And Lo’ak, why does trouble always find you?”
“Sir, Ao’nung was picking on Kiri.” Lo’ak explains. “He called her a freak.”
“They also started ganging up on Lo’ak. You want Neteyam and I to protect and watch over our siblings.” I add. “That’s what I was doing. I couldn’t stand around and do nothing.”
“You could’ve done other things. Encourage him to walk away or even get an adult.” Sempu tells me, then he turns to Lo’ak. “Go apologize to Ao’nung.”
“But-”
”He’s the olo’eytkan’s son. I don’t care how you do it.” Sempu interrupts. “Just go make peace. And twins you go get patched up.“ Lo’ak huffs then goes off to find Ao’nung. Before Neteyam and I can leave, Sempu stops us.
“So what did the other guys look like?” he asks
“Worse.” Neteyam says quietly.
”That’s good.” Sempu replies.
“A lot worse.” I smile.
“Get out of here.” Sempu says
______________________________________________________________________
“Hey I just wanted to apologize for the way I have acted.” Ao’nung says, coming to sit beside me on the beach.
“What made you want to apologize?” I ask confused.
“I realize that I need to be a better person if I want a chance with you,” he admits. “I really like you. I don’t want to miss my chance because I was being a jerk.” “What made you think you had a chance?” I question.
“I’m sorry, I um- I didn’t-”
“Oh hush I’m just teasing you.” I told him. “I actually had my eye on you when we first landed. But I definitely started to dislike you when you started giving my family a hard time.”
“I promise that I will be better.” he says, taking my hand in his. “Especially if that means I have a chance with you.”
“I know that will mean a lot to my siblings.” I say, smiling softly. “Speaking of my siblings. Where’s Lo’ak, I know he went to you to apologize.”
“He did. We went hunting for a little bit.” he explains.
“Do you know where he is?” I ask. “I wanted to see if he wanted to go for a fly.”
“He went to go find Reya.” he tells me. “How about we look for shells instead.”
“Alright, I don’t want to interrupt his time with Tsireya.” I say getting up. “And I did have come up with ideas for new accessories.” So we spent a few hours together just swimming together and collecting shells. Ao’nung can be a real sweetheart when he wants to be.
“Ao’nung!” Neteyam yells stomping to us. “Where is he?”
“Who?” he asks, confused.
“Lo’ak.” Neteyam says. “I can’t find him anywhere.”
“It’s only been a few hours, isn’t he still with Tsireya?” I ask, confused.
“What are you talking about?” Neteyam asks, equally confused. “She said she was busy training with her mother all day.”
“But Ao’nung said he went to go find Tsireya after they came back from hunting.” I explained. “He must be here somewhere.”
“Kiri and I searched the whole village.” Neteyam insists. “He is not here.”
“Is that true?” I ask, turning towards Ao’nung. “Please tell me Neteyam is mistaken. Lo’ak is with Tsireya, right?”
“We took him outside the reefs to hunt…” Ao’nung starts looking at the sand. “And we…um…left him there.”
“You left him!?” I scream pushing him. “How could you?”
“It was only a joke.” he responds, putting his hands up. “I thought that he would find his way.”
“You know he wouldn’t be able to do that!” I scream angry tears in my eyes. “I’m going to kill you.” “Y/N calm down. If you hurt him you will be in trouble” Neteyam says, restraining me. “We have to tell Father.”
Neteyam lets go of me and grabs Ao’nung by his queue and we make our way to Sempu. He is in the mauri talking with Kiri. When we enter they both turn to us.
“Tell him what you told us.” Neteyam growls.
Ao’nung explains that he and his friends took Lo’ak outside the reef for a hunt. He adds that it was just a joke that they normally play. Sempu goes to find Tonowari so they can send a search party. It took a few hours but Lo’ak was found with minor injuries. Shockingly, Lo’ak lied and said that it was his idea. Sempu and Sa’nu pull the three of us aside for a talk.
“I was just trying to make friends with these kids.” Lo’ak tries to reason. “Just like you said.
“You have brought shame upon this family.” Sempu responds.
“Can I go now?” Lo’ak asks, hurt clearly in his eyes.
Sempu nods and Lo’ak walks off. Then he and Sa’nu turn their attention to Neteyam and I.
“Where were you two?” he questioned. “I thought it would be better since there are two of you. But I was wrong.”
“Sorry sir,” Neteyam says, ears down in shame.
“Sempu, please understand. I know you and Sa’nu can’t be everywhere but it is too much on us.” I start. “We do the best we can but it is hard. We love our family and this scared us half to death and the pressure you’re putting on us doesn’t help.”
I take Neteyam’s arm and walk away before Sempu can respond. We work hard to protect our family. We love them dearly but we need a chance to be children, not parents.
“Thank you.” he says, pulling me into a hug. “You shouldn’t have said that though.”
“We both knew it had to be said. And I’m the only one that will say it” I respond, returning the hug. “I was scared, Neteyam.”
“I was too.” he starts. “But you know..”
“As long as we are together the family will be safe.” I finished.

Return To Me (Pt 1)
For the safety of your family your father, Jake, decides to move the family out of the forest. Now you and your siblings must navigate your new lives in the reefs. (Warnings Spoilers) Word Count: 1837
Sa'sem: Parent(s) Sempu: Daddy Sa'nu: Mommy Tawtute: Skyperson/Human ______________________________________________________________
Tumblr media
Life has been like a dream and a nightmare all at once. My siblings and I grew up with stories about how our sa'sem met. Also, about how Sempu became Toruk Makto and led the Na'vi to victory against the tawtute, sending them back from where they came. For many years that's all they were...stories. Now they've become reality. A bad man has come back to Pandora, looking for revenge on Sempu. That man and some others ambushed my younger siblings and taking them captive to get to him. Sa'nu, Sempu, Neteyam and I managed to save them, barely making it out alive. Tragically they managed to kidnap our beloved friend, Spider. Instead of attacking the tawtute and saving Spider, Sempu has decided to give up his title as Olo'eyktan of the Omatikaya and flee.
“Sempu!” I call from my ikran as we fly away. “Where are we going?”
“Somewhere safe.” he answers.
Then I look back to the forest, our home. Neteyam was supposed to be the next Olo'eyktan, I was going to help him protect the people by being the next Toruk Makto. Kiri has to leave her mother behind. Lo'ak hasn't found his place in the forest yet. And poor TukTuk might never be able to tame her own ikran. Worst of all, I don't know if we will ever see our grandma, whose now all alone.
"When are we coming back?" I ask Sempu.
"I don't know." he sighs.
It took about a week to arrive at our destination. A feeling of relief filled me when I saw the Matkayina village. When they see us, a horn is sounded, and I can hear the people making different calls before diving into the water. When we land a crowd quickly forms around us.
"Be cool. Sempu tells us. Then he spots Sa'nu taking her bow. "Leave it."
He holds up his arms to show that he is not a threat and Neteyam copies him. Sa'nu takes TukTuk's hand so she doesn't stray too far away. Kiri pulls her shawl closer to her body, seemingly uncomfortable with the attention on us. Lo'ak seems to be taking in the surroundings.
"Hey." Sempu says coming to a stopping in the center.
The crowd parts for two boys. The shorter one had short curly hair and the taller one, who's actually a little cute, had his hair braided into a bun. They must be important giving how the crowd parted for them. My brothers and I greeted them, but they didn't return it. Instead, the circled around us and started to mock our bodies.
”What is that?” The shorter one laughs pointing at Neteyam’s tail which causes the other one to laugh as well. “Is that supposed to be a tail?”
"How are they supposed to swim?" the taller one laughs.
I let out a hiss and make my way over to them. But I don't get far when Neteyam grabs ahold of my wrist.
“Easy.” he warns. “Just be cool.”
I send the boys one last glare then relax my body. But Neteyam doesn't let go of my wrist, he knows me so well. This time a girl joins the crowd and scolds the boys for teasing us. The first thing she does is scold the boys for mocking us.
“Hey.” Lo’ak smiles to her which she responds with a blush.
“We just got here baby bro.” I giggle nudging him.
I share a smirk with Neteyam as Lo'ak blushes and turns away. Then a beast flies over us causing everyone to duck. The rider is Tonowari, their olo'eytkan. Lastly, Ronal, their tsahìk, joins his side. We greet both of them but only Tonowari returns it.
“Why do you come to us Jake Sully?” Tonowari asks.
“We seek uturu.” Sempu announces. “A sanctuary for my family.”
”You are forest people.” Tonowari points out as Ronal starts to circle us. “We are reef people. Your skills will be useless here.”
“We will learn your ways.” Sempu says and we nod in agreement.
"Their arms are thin." Ronal says grabbing TukTuk's arm them mine. After that she starts to tug on tails. "Their tails are weak. They will be slow in the water."
“Ow.” Kiri whines when Ronal tugs her tail next.
“Y/N.” Neteyam warns. I didn't realize that I started to bare my teeth at the tsahìk. “It will be over soon.”
“Not soon enough.” I grumble.
"These kids are not even true Na'vi." she proclaims holding up Kiri's hands.
"Yes we are." Kiri says, snatching her hands away.
"They have demon blood!" Ronal continues as she holds up Lo'ak's hands next. Then she moves to Neteyam and I. "This poor child is so mixed with the demon that one hand has four fingers while the other has three."
As I look around I seem some of the people look scared and even disgusted. But when I look at the tall boy who was mocking us earlier, he looked curious more than anything. I doubt they will let us stay. I wish I could grab Sempu, tug him back to the ikrans, and fly back to the forest. We don't need to run and hide, we must fight. Sadly, I know Sempu will not fight anymore if he can help it.
“Look. Look. I was born of the Skypeople and now I am Na'vi." Sempu says holding up his hands so he can take Ronal's attention off of us. "You can adapt. We will adapt."
“My husband was Toruk Makto.”Sa’nu tells them which dad cringes at. “He led the clans to victory against the Sky people.”
“This is what you call victory? Hiding among strangers?” Ronal questions walking between our sa'sem. “It seems like Eywa has turned her back on you, Chosen One.”
They get into a hissing match which Sempu has to apologize for. Much to our surprise the clan leaders let us stay. Tonowari tells us that his children will show us what to do. They are Ao'nung, the tall jerk who was teasing us about our tails, and Tsireya, the girl who Lo'ak has a crush on. They show us to our new home and tell us to fins them when we have settled in so they can show us around the reefs.
"Okay Sullys." Sempu says. "Fall in."
"Remember?" Neteyam asks pulling Lo'ak into the mauri. "Family meeting.
"I need you kids to pull your weight and be on your best behavior." Sempu starst, directing the last part mostly to Lo'ak and I. "Learn fast and stay out of trouble. Understood?"
"Yes sir." Lo'ak answers. Neteyam smirks and grabs his neck.
“I want to go home.” Tuk responds with tears in her eyes.
“Awe Tuk.” Sa’nu says sympathetically.
“Tuk, this is our home now.” Sempu tells her taking her small hand in his big one. “Now we’re going to get through this together.”
“What does your father always say?” Sa’nu asks.
“Sullys stick together.” we mumble together.
“Now with some feeling.” Sempu smiles softly. “Come on.”
“Sully stick together.” we say again a little louder.
After the family meeting we join Ao'nung, Tsireya, and their friend, Rotxo, on the docks. Rotxo was the one who was teasing us with Ao'nung when we arrived. They're going to show us around the reefs. Swimming in the ocean should be easy, we have many ponds and lakes back in the forest. The metkayina teens dive in the water while the others cannonball in. Tuktuk hesitates so I hold a hand out to her.
“Just think of it like the pond we swam in back at home.” I smile.
“Okay.” she says taking my hand and together we jump in the water.
The water is surprisingly warm when I enter it. Tuk and I catch up with our brothers who are already following the Meykayina teens. It’s so amazing underwater. There are so many animals that are different colors and sizes. Completely different from the land animals we grew up with back in the forest. But it quickly starts to get harder to hold our breath and we have to go to the surface to take a breath. Once we are collectively able to catch our breath we poke out heads back under the water. Tsireya does some hand movements under the water. When she notices our confused faces she just signals us to continue to follow them. So we dive back under and continue to swim. But again we don’t make it far before we need to go up for air again.
“Are you alright?” Tsireya asks joining us above the surface.
“You’re too fast.” Tuk cries. “Wait for us.”
“We don’t speak this…finger talk.” I tell her.
“Yea, we don’t understand what you’re saying.” Neteyam adds.
“I will teach you.” she tells us.
“You are not good divers.” Ao’nung says popping up out of the water. “Maybe good at swinging through trees-”
Tsireya smacked him in the head. I laughed which caused him to scowl at me.
“Kiri?” Rotxo asks. “Where is Kiri?”
“Who?” Ao’nung asks.
“You’re supposed to be watching her.” I say splashing Neteyam.
"Bro, we're twins we're both supposed to be watching her." he relies, splashing me back.
“What do you mean you’re twins?” Tsireya asks curiously.
“Well, we have the same face and were born at the same time.” We explain together.
“But you two are different.” Rotxo points out.
“True.” Neteyam says. “Think of us as two halves of the same whole.”
“Anyway, I’ll go find Kiri.” I say bringing the conversation back.
“I’ll join you.” Ao’nung announces. When me and my siblings give a weird look, he quickly adds. “She doesn’t know the danger of the sea.”
Without good reason to refuse Ao'nung and I swim off from the group to find Kiri.
“So, tell me more about you and Neteyam,” he says out of nowhere.
"No." I grunt.
“Why do you speak at the same time or finish each other's sentences?” he asks anyway
“We know what the other is going to say.” I explain.
“So, who would be the leader of the forest?” he asks. “Since there are two of you.”
“Technically it is going to be neither of us since our father gave up his title. But it was agreed that Neteyam would be Olo'eyktan and I would be Toruk Makto.” I say through grit teeth. “Can you let me focus on finding my sister?”
After that he stops asking questions. I poke my head under the water and i finally spot Kiri. I take a breath and make my way to her. Suddenly, something wraps around my body. I try to fight it off but it won't let go. Just when I feel like I'm about to pass out I'm brought to the surface. The first thing I hear is Ao'nung's laughter/
“What is wrong with you?” I demand.
“You should’ve seen the look on your face.” he answers, still laughing. “You were so scared.”
“I thought you said that you were going to make sure I was safe.” I hissed. “Why did you do that?”
"If you were more observant, I couldn't have snuck up on you." he smirks. "Regardless on if you're new to the reefs you should always be aware of your surroundings."
I just splash him and dive back under to get my sister. She's playing with a school of small fish, which swim off when I approach. I give an apologetic smile and she waves it off to signalling she is not upset. Together we swim to the surface to talk.
“I know you’re excited to explore the ocean but try to stay with us.” I plead with my younger sister.
“I’ll try but everything is so wonderful.” Kiri smiles dreamily. "You must join me sometime. Eywa has made such wonderful things."
“We must get back to the others.” Ao’nung announces. “We’re going to show you how to ride ilu next.”

Cloud 9
Roxto gains the confidence to tell you how he feels.
Tumblr media
"Have you asked Y/N on a date yet?” Tsireya asks Roxto.
“No,” he sighs. :”What if she rejects me?”
“She won’t.” she says, grabbing his hand. “I’ve seen the way you both look at each other.”
So Roxto took her words to heart. He stopped by his mauri to get the arm cuff he made you then went to go look for you. When he found you he saw you standing in shallow water collecting some fish.
“Y/N!” he calls jogging up to you.
“Oh hey, Roxto.” you smile. “How are you?”
“I’m doing well.” he blushes. “I wanted to know if you wanted to hang out with me.”
“I’m sorry. My siblings and I are supposed to spend time together.” you tell him apologetically. Then suddenly your face lit up like you had the best idea. “You and the other’s should join us.”
“That’s ok we can try another time.” he tells you. “I wouldn’t want to intrude.”
“It’s no problem. It will be fun.” you beam, holding you pinky out to him. “I promise.”
He just stared at her in confusion. She giggles, takes his hand in hers, and then wraps his pinky around hers.
“It’s a pinky promise. It is something I never break.” you tell him.
“Now let’s go find Tsireya and Ao’nung.”
After finding the Metkayina teens you lead the group to the clearing where you and your siblings wanted to meet up. All their smiles drop once they see Ao’nung.
“What are they doing here?” Lo’ak huffs still staring at Ao’nung.
“This is supposed to be family time.” Kiri adds.
“I thought since they taught us their way of life we can show them part of ours.” you explain while wrapping an arm around Tsireya’s shoulders. This takes Lo’ak focus from Ao’nung and shifts it to Tsireya. “I’m sure Tsireya is excited to ride with you Lo.”
Everyone lets out a small giggle as they shyly blush at each other. The riding buddies were decided. Ao’nung would be witch Neteyam, Tsireya would be with Lo’ak, Roxto would be with you, and Tuk would be with Kiri. After that you and your siblings call for your ikran. The Metayina teens backed away as the rest of you welcomed your beloved animals with kind words and fish.
“It’s alright. They can be really sweet.” you say holding your hand out to Roxto. “Come here, Roxto.”
How could he say no to you when you smile like that? Your smile makes his knees weak. He would fight an pxazang if it meant he’s see your smile every day. So Roxto slowly took you hand and you helped him on the creature.
“Is everyone ready?” Neteyam asks, looking around.
Once everyone is settled we take off. The air was filled with screams and excited calls. Roxto was clinging to you tightly and when you looked back at him you saw that his eyes were shut
“It’s okay. I won’t let anything happen to you.” you tell him as you place your hand gently over his. “Plus if your eyes are closed the whole time you’ll miss everything.”
Roxto keeps his tight grip on you but slowly opens his eyes. It was incredible up here. He knew the village was a beautiful place but he’s never seen it like this. He can see everything from his mauri to the vast sparkling, clear ocean. You fly between Lo’ak and Neteyam.
“How are you both doing?” You call.
“This is so amazing.” Tsireya cheers.
“This is boring.” Ao’nung called. But you can see he has a tighter grip on Neteyam than Roxto has on you.
“Really?” Neteyam asks giving him a side eye. “I’m glad I don’t have to hold back anymore.”
Suddenly, they take off ahead of the group. Then Neteyam started showing off, such as doing loops and falling from the air, then flying at the last second. Everyone laughed as Ao’nung was screaming the whole time.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eclipse neared and everyone decided it was time to end the flying sessioln. We say our goodbyes and start to head home. But Roxto grabbed your hand before you could take off with your siblings.
“I had a lot of fun.” he says shyly.
“So did I.” you smile. “If you ever want to go for a fly, just let me know.”
“Definitely.” he nods.
You turn to catch up with your siblings. You don’t make it far before he stops you again. You look at him confused. It’s obvious that he wanted to say something but he was hesitating. This is the perfect moment to express his feelings. But this was scary, scarier than the ikran he just flew on with you. But he takes a deep breath, takes your hand in his again, and puts the other on your cheek.
“Y/N…I….I see you.” he breaths. “Your smile is brighter than the sun, you have a beauty that is like no other. And I am glad you came to the reef.”
There was a pang of worry in him as you took in his confession. But he was pleasantly surprised when you threw yourself on him in a hug, which sent you both tumbling onto the ground. Then he offered you the cuff he made. You put it on and  give him the biggest smile he’d ever seen.
“It took you long enough. You’ve made me the happiest na’vi to ever live.” you say, putting your forehead to his. “I see you.”

Love At First Fight
Ngaytxoa - Sorry iknimaya - The rite of passage for young na’vi Sempul - Father Sa'nok - Mother txampay'eylan - Even though you are a warrior in the eyes of the clan. Ao'nung doesn't show you the same respect as he does you twin, Neteyam. You have an idea with how to gain his respect and finally get him to see you as the warrior you are.
Tumblr media
“Kids, fall in.” Sempul calls. The five of us stand in a line, youngest to oldest, with our hands behind our backs. “I’ve been talking with Tonowari.”
“I swear I‘ve been staying out of trouble like you asked.” Lo’ak says.
“He’s right.” I chime in.
“You’re not in trouble.” Sempul sighs.
”Yet.” Kiri whispers causing the rest of us to giggle.
“As I was saying,” Sempul continues. “Tonowari and I agree that it would be beneficial if the twins and Lo’ak trained his kids
“But they are already warriors.” Neteyam chimes in. “What could we teach them?”
“The war tactics I’ve taught you both. Remember they don’t know what it’s like to go to war against the sky people.” Sempul answers.
“So I get to beat up Ao’nung without getting in trouble?” I smile while cracking my knuckles. “Sounds good to me.”
“Actually things have already been arranged. “ Sempul tells us.
“Kiri, Tuk, and I will train in healing with Ronal. Y/N you will train Tsireya.” sa’nok explains. “The boys will train Roxto and Ao’nung. Your father will meet with Tonowari to think of ways to protect the reefs from the tawtute.”
“But I want to learn to fight.” Tuk whines. “I want to be a mighty warrior like the twins.”
“I know babygirl,” Sempul says, kneeling to her height. “But you’re too young to fight and we need as many healers as we can get.”
“If you’re up for it I can teach you something after training.” I smiled at her.
“See now you can hangout with all your favorite women.” Sa’nok tells her.
“Now that everything is settled,” Sempul announces. “Let’s eat!”
“Great,” Lo’ak says patting his stomach, “I’m hungry.”
“Sempul, do they know that we start training at 5 in the morning?” I ask sitting between Neteyam and Kiri.
“Yes, so don’t be late.” he answers.
________________________________________________________
“Lo’ak.” I whiper. “Lo’ak wake up.”
“Five more minutes.” he mumbles and turns over.
“We have to go.” Neteyam tells him. When he still doesn’t move Neteyam throws him over his shoulder. “Alright let’s go.”
When we arrive at the clan leader’s mauri all three teens are standing in front. I smile and hold my hands up to Roxto and Tsireya.
“Good morning txampay’eylan.” I beam.
“Good morning.” Tsireya smiles, putting her hand against mine.
“Hello.” Roxto yawns, putting his hand up to my other one.
“No good morning for me?” Ao’nung pouts.
“Hey skxawng.” I say without a smile.
“Be nice.” Neteyam tells me as he puts Lo’ak down. “You all have passed the first test. Waking up on time.”
“Same can’t be said for Lo’ak.” Tsireya giggles.
“She’s right.” I laugh poking Lo’ak. “You look like you’re going to fall over.
“Whatever.” he says stretching. “I’ll wake up after our run.”
“I don’t understand what we could possibly learn from you.” Ao’nung growls. “This will be a waste of my time.”
“Do I need to remind you that my brothers and I kicked you and your friends asses.” I growl getting in Ao’nung’s face. “You even had an extra person and still lost.”
“You want to go a round?” Ao’nung challenges. “One on one.”
“Y/N, you know what dad said,” Neteyam says in a warning tone, “We need to teach not to fight for no reason.”
“I can teach him by messing up that pretty face.” I hiss.
“So you think I’m pretty?” he smirks.
Before I can do anything Neteyam pulls me away. He’s always been able to keep my head clear.
“You’re lucky.” I hissed, going back to my twin’s side. “What’s the plan Neteyam?”
“There’s a small forest we can run through. I'm thinking about running for half and hour.” he starts. “Then we can swim for the other half. We can get practice in the water and they can get endurance in.”
“We already know how to run and swim.” Ao’nung comments.
“Ao’nung.” Tsireya scolds. “Listen.”
“After that Ao’nung, Roxto, Lo’ak and I will spar while you teach Tsireya the basics.” he finishes. “Sound like a plan?”
“Let’s get to it.” I beam. “Last one to the tiny forest is a rotten egg.”
As I dash off I can hear my brothers trying to explain the meaning. It feels so good to run around in this small forest. It might not be home but it’s wonderful. The sand is turning to mud and there’s even a few trees to swing from.
“Look at her go.” Tsireya smiles.
“Woo hooo.” I holler as I swing from another tree. “Keep up slow pokes.”
It feels like it went too fast. Neteyam was yelling for me to say it’s time for a swim. The ocean is beautiful but not as much as the forest.
“Watch this.” Tsireya signs.
She swims behind a fish and taps it. The startled creature puffs up 3 times its size. I couldn’t hold in a laugh and had to swim to the surface. The others join me.
“Are you okay?” Lo’ak asks.
“Yes.” I nod. “Hey let’s race.”
“You’re on.” Lo’ak laughs diving in.
“Come on everyone.” I smile then follow after Lo’ak.
Soon we’re done swimming and go to dry off on the beach. The boys leave me and Tsireya to spar.
“Alright, I’m sure you know the basics so we’ll start with defense.” I told her. “How does that sound?”
“You’re the teacher.” she replies.
Once we’re dry we stand in a defensive position.
“Okay, I’m going to tackle you and start punching.” I told her. “Your goal is to get me off. Got it?”
“Yes.” she answers.
I run at full speed and tackle her. Instantly she puts her arms over her face as I start gently punching her. I want her to be able to fight but that doesn’t mean I want to hurt her. She tries to flip me off but I clamp my thighs around her stomach.
“Don’t be afraid to take a punch if it means you can get the upper hand.” I tell her. “This isn;t about being nice it’s about surving.”
Tsireya moves over her arms and grabs my wrist. She bites me and while I’m distracted rolls over so I’m in the sand. Then she’s punching on me.
“Haha forest freak bit it.” I hear Ao’nung laugh.
I yank Tsireya’s tail and throw her off of me. I made a beeline for Ao’nung. He’s been testing me all day. But before I can reach him a force knocks me into the sand. I look up and find Neteyam above me.
”Get off of me.” I growl. “He’s been testing me all day.”
“No, I won’t let you get us in any more trouble.” he tells me. “Mawey or I won’t let you go.”
“This is stupid.” I huff. “I’m calm.”
“I think that’s enough training for today.” Neteyam announces as he gets off of me.
“Ngaytxoa for throwing you in the sand.” I say kneeling in front of Tsireya.
“It’s okay.” she smiles, lifting me up by my arm. “Come. We can go finish our new tops.”
___________________________________________________________
“So how was training?” father asks.
“I want to fight Ao’nung.” I announce.
“What have I told -”
“A fair fight. I will ask permission from his parents.” I interrupt. “He knows I am a warrior but he doubts my abilities.”
There’s a pause as my parents look at each other. They have a silent conversation before nodding at each other.
“Alright, come on everyone.” Father sighs. “If you’re going to do this, we do it now and leave it behind. Understand?”
“Yes sir.” I say trying to hold back a smile.
My father leads the family to the olo’eyktan and his family.
“What is it Jake Sully?” he asks humorously “It seems like you can never stay away.”
“My daughter wishes to ask something of you.” he says, stepping aside so I can come forward.
“Oel ngati kameie, Olo’eyktan Tonowari. Oel ngati kameie, Tsahìk Ronal.” I say bringing my fingers to my forehead. “I wish to ask your permission to fight your son, Ao’nung.”
“What is the meaning of this?” Ronal questions. “Your family seeks uturu and you ask this of us.”
“Back in the Omatikaya clan I completed my iknimaya and became a warrior. I have become a skilled fighter and warrior like my parents. My father has trained me for years so that I can be the next Toruk Makto.” I answered kneeling in front of the clan leaders. “I do not mean this out of disrespect. I want to show Ao’nung that I am a great warrior. I also would like to show my strength to you both. I will follow any rules that are put in place for the fight should you approve.”
“She wants to fight you.” I hear Tonowari say. He must be talking to his son. “What is your response.”
“I accept.” he answers.
“Stand Sully child.” Ronal says. I stand and look at them both. “Go home and prepare. You both will spar in three hours.”
“Thank you.” I say looking at the clan leaders then turn to Ao’nung. “I look forward to our fight.”
Our parents go back to the mauri while my siblings and I on the edge of the doc. They want to give me a pep talk and some advice.
“Remember to keep a level head.” Neteyam says, placing his hand atop my head. “You are a great fighter but you tend to forget tactics when you're angry.”
“I will bother.” I smile, putting my hand on his. “I hope I will make you all proud.”
“You’re going to be amazing.” Tuk smiles.
“Make sure to use the surroundings like dad taught us.” Kiri says worriedly. “And make sure to keep guard of your important organs.”
“You worry too much sis.” Lo’ak beams while playfully nudging her. “Y/N is definitely going to kick his ass.”
——————————————————————————————————
A decent sized group has formed to watch our fight. I guess when the chef’s son is being challenged to a fight is major news. We face our father’s so they can tell us the rules.
“Toruk Makto and I have discussed what you both know about battle and have come up with only one rule.” the chef starts.
“No weapons allowed.” dad announces.
“What about breaking bones?” Ao’nung asks.
“Scared?” I smirk.
“I just want to know how much I need to hold back,” he responds.
“Give it all you got.” Tonowari tells us. “You are both strong fighters. Strong and determined. No need to hold back.”
“To make sure you follow the only rule you will give us your weapons.” father says.
We give our knives to our fathers then face each other. I sign that I see you to him but he doesn’t do the same. He’s getting under my skin by the clear show of disrespect. I must remember what Neteyam told me. Keep a level head. I take a deep breath and get into a fighting stance, Ao’nung does the same.
“Begin!” Tonowari yells.
Immediately, Ao’nung comes charging at me. I move out of the way and kick his back so he falls in the sand. I jump on his back and bite between his shoulder and neck. He grunts in pain and manages to shake me off. Then he’s on top of me punching me in the face. I try to wiggle out of his hold but he’s not letting up. I can feel my nose starting to bleed. I have to get him off me.
‘Make sure to use the surroundings like dad taught us.’ I remember Kiri telling me.
I pick up a fist full of sand and throw it in his face. While he’s coughing I flip us over one more. I shove another fistfull of sand in his face, grab both of his hands in mine, then start punching his face.
“Give up.” I pant as my fist crunches against his nose.
“N-no.” he breathes and tries kicking me off.
I elbow him in the stomach, knocking the wing out of him then stand up. As I raise my foot to stomp down on him he holds up his hands.
“Stop.” he gasps. “I give up.”
I hear mixed reactions. I hear my family celebrating my victory along with some approval of the other warriors. Tonowari looks shocked but gives a nod in approval while Ronal looks horrified as well as Tsireya. I look at Kiri and she nods to Ao’nung. She is signaling for me to help him. So I hold out my hand.
“I said you win.” he grunts trying to get up.
“Let me patch you up.” I offer. “You are hurt and I can ahelp.”
“Why?” he questions. “Is winning not enough. You must embarrass me by caring for me?”
“My sister and grandmother have taught me how to be gentle and helpful.” I say slinging his arm around my shoulder. I look at Ronal and bow my head. “If you will allow it I will patch up Ao’nung.”
“You are a strange child.” is all she told me.
—----------------------------------------------------------------------------
“I’m sorry.” Ao’nung says to me. “I didn’t realize how skilled you were.”
“Everyone can learn something. Even my baby sister, Tuk, teaches me the wonder of life everyday.” I responded. “You just have to be willing to learn and listen.”
“Y/N.” Ao’nung says, taking my hand and looking me in the eyes.. “Oel ngati kameie.”
