The envelop that contains the lithograph prizes you can with in the Slayer’s Club has some really badass art on it that depicts Doomguy overlooking a cheering Night Sentinel army. The Night Sentinels apparently fought with dragons and some kind of Ogre or golem creatures with mounted guns on them. Pretty neat.
- the entire surface is like a 40k hive city or blade runner or coruscant
- maybe an ocean, maybe no ocean - likely not if climate controlled
- the difference between the natural crust of the planet and the layers of urban superstructure is unclear
- it used to have at least one moon that was shattered and turned into rings
- irken military facilities are housed in the rings of irk moreso than on the surface of the planet
- lower levels of the planet are like downtown/slums
- there are buildings around that do in fact have ‘you must be this tall’ signs
- due to zim’s impending doom 1 rampage much of irk’s surface/lower levels are basically in a post apocalyptic/slum state
- coincidentally said slums/lower levels are often covered in a layer of clouds/fog as if to hide the horrific extensive damage to the planet
- zim may have caused some form of ecological disaster during his rampage with all the smoke from the fires of his mech stompy
- arenas, coliseums and stadiums are common due to the irken fixation on competition, combat, and conquest/irkens like battles and racing
- some daredevils might like to race around in irk’s rings to the irritation of spacecops
- irk is known for it’s ‘bloody sunsets’ due to the pink/red color of the sky
- the rings tend to glow at night, if not because they’re lit by the sun then because they’re dotted with tons of space stations
- smeeteries are purposefully located deep underground as to protect future generations and the irken academy from possible surface warfare/orbital bombardment
- towers are popular but usually reserved for tall people
While watching the script reading of “The Trial”, I found this part hilarious so I tried animating it. This took an unfair amount of my time and effort since I’m new to toonboom and after effect but I learned a lot while animating this!
This night-morning brings a rough compilation of sketches - some digital, mostly physical - as well as an earlyish 3D interpretation of said sketches!
But what are those sketches? Ships - spaceships - Irken spaceships, no less, and this ship in particular is Ave’s own Regor.
Classed as a Shrike-Reaver, cousins of the Regor are uncommon but powerful sights with a number of interesting design quirks, such as their ridiculous size. Indeed, you could perhaps fit around a dozen Spittle Runners in the wingspan of a single Shrike! Perhaps that’s why he likes it? Would be nice to have a ship you could stretch your legs in, after all.
Shrike-Reavers, named initially for their hooked noses, are long-ranged solitary fleet hunters and nebula predators. Uniquely aerodynamic, they’re known for coasting undetected with their engines cold, gliding everywhere from the seas of ocean-worlds to the storms of gas giants as they lie in wait and make the best of a design quirk that most races have taken to ignoring - wings.
Holding many more surprises than merely the lost concept of lift, the wings of a Shrike can hold anything from missiles to snacks, and prominently feature extended shield systems that bolster already formidable armor. Akin to some Spittle Runners, Shrikes feature self contained cockpits capable of ejection from the crew module. Most notably, however, is the completely sealed nature of the cockpit, using hull sensors to provide the pilot with any relevant data.
Shrikes are as well-armed as they are oversized and armored, with most containing some variation on a long-ranged tactical beam weapon that typically deploys from under the cockpit giving the craft a Shuvver-like silhouette. Coupled with the massive engines, they’re easily capable of chasing down prey and carving new holes into them.
However, given their size and the fixed nature of most of their weapons, Shrikes do face a mobility advantage when faced against smaller craft.
Currently out of favor under the steamroller tactics preferred by the Almighty Tallest and thus the Armada, Shrikes have largely receded from public view despite appreciation from fleet hunters and defenders alike.
today krev learns that it can easily take 14 seconds to render around 1.5 seconds of animation in blender, and that’s with simple lights and two lowpolyish models
no wonder CGI is expensive
it’s also kinda painful to sync up movement to music at 24 fps
i have yet to find a picture, video, or phrase that properly articulates the sheer seething fury, simmering hatred and frothing rage that builds in me whenever i hear someone eating salad, chips, or noodles in a quiet room
i have yet to find a way to express this anger in general
in other words i hate listening to my roommate eat when i’m trying to sleep
