I'm European and I will never forget the day I found out about Mormonism. I had watched a recording of The Book of Mormon and I was discussing the musical with someone I knew and I was like "It was really funny and I liked how it was a caricature of Christianity" and he hesitated for a moment and was like "no it's a caricature of Mormonism". And we looked at each other for like 5 minutes while I was trying to process the fact that Mormonism was in fact a real religion and had not been made up specifically for the 2011 musical "The Book of Mormon"

This is me so much and this is why the aroace community has helped me. I've been stuck in a conservative community all my life, first unable to make meaningful friendships because of my abuser, then unable because of covid, now unable because I can't find anyone who'd accept me as I am. The aroace community has taught me that relationships aren't an extension of myself and that a person, as they are, is enough. That they're whole. Centering the narrative around other kinds of relationships than romantic ones as necessary for a life worth living isn't going to combat amatonormativity in the way we're hoping it does.

I love it when Aro/aces talk about having amazing friends but we also need to talk about it when aro/aces aren’t able to make meaningful friendships because of their current situation because it hurts

To add more lore to this, the person he made fun of me with is his crush, another trainee at my workplace whom he follows around like a lost puppy dog and she is what I can only call a bourgeoisie parasite. Things I heard this girl say:

"You only got 50$ for Easter??? That's the allowance I get from my parents every week. But to be fair, I use that to finance my own horse."

Today a cishet man at work (a year younger than me) was incredibly shocked about the fact that I do not want to live in a house and would prefer an apartment. He asked if I planned on having a family. Knowing where this was going, I said I already have a family, they live an hour away and I visit them on the weekend. "Okay but I meant having children." I said I don't wish to have kids. So this catholic boomer in the body of a 22 year old is utterly baffled again and goes "what a sad life this must be". Now I want to commit arson.
