i've seen a lot of people struggle with naming their characters, so I've decided to open my inbox for naming help! This also applies to creating ship names. All you have to do is list down at least three of the following if you want to request for a name: 1. If you want your character's name to be masculine, feminine, or gender neutral

2. Your character's race/ethnicity

3. Any vibe/theme you want your character's name to give off

4. The letters you want in your character's name

5. The amount of syllables you want your character's name to have

6. What you want your character's name to mean

I feel like a mindless zombie lugging the big bag of flesh that is my body around the classroom. I can barely get my fingers to move around the keyboard as my mind goes at less than a mile per hour. Was the 8 hours of sleep that I had acquired last night not enough? The sluggish way I’m clawing for any sense of coherence in this very paragraph I am writing is telling. It feels as if I’m swimming in a giant vat of molasses, vulnerable to sinking in sweet relief. Sleep is a lucky thing to have in this world of school, but rest? You can never get enough rest. Rest is a privilege. Rest is a roll of toilet paper and you're stuck in a supermarket during the early days of the pandemic. You cannot survive without rest, yet it is so damn hard to find in the hellish trenches of academic life.

one of the hardest damn things in writing your own original work is coming up with names for characters. Maybe it’s just me, but it’s just SO HARD to come up with names that match the vibe of my book, that make sense, that are unique but aren’t cringy etc. etc.

Writeblr Intro

Hello! My name is Kit. I am new to writeblr, but very old to tumblr. I live in the US, I'm 26 and use she/they pronouns.

I've been creeping on the tags for a while, but I finally made a blog just for writing. I'd love to share updates on what I'm writing, excerpts and talk about writing with other writers.

I'm currently writing my first novel, it's young adult high fantasy. I've written about 40,000 words in the universe, but I've recently finished a more detailed outline. So, I'm starting the real rough draft now that I know more of what I want to say.

A lot of my characters are queer and disabled, like me. I want to write books that are magical and that a lot of different people can see themselves in. I think fantasy serves as a cool conduit for imagining what the world could look like beyond a lot of the power structures we take for granted.

I'd love to follow other authors, particularly ones that are also working on longer term projects. I think it'd be cool to get feedback from people, or find other people who have been doing this longer and talk more about their thought processes. I'm open to following writers of all genres since I read them all and think there's so many cool things to learn from different styles!

Any advice on how to get started is appreciated, will be following anyone that interacts with this post.

getting a feel for my new ocs in the cross country story ... figured i'd share what i got down!

celes had always been sharp teeth, serrated edges, cutting words. each bloodied fight a pantomime of her true nature, rogue and untamed, a scourge on society’s most integral principles. learn how to use your words, they’d said - demanded, really. and when celes had, when her tongue slipped and blunt, harsh words tumbled out instead, they’d punished her for that, too. but she found her voice to be another way to tame the fire in her chest, teeth-gnashing anger and frustration spilling out in batches of insults, rather than fists thrown or hair pulled. they called her bloodthirsty, thought she liked the taste of it, but she really just wanted something to hurt. when she realized her words could do that in greater quantities than a fight ever could, she began to use that instead. liked the results better.

dakota had always been contained passion, sarcastic quips, blood on tile. born in their mother’s shadow, walking the straight and narrow under watchful glares. scars lodged in their back, belt buckles caught against soft skin. born to run, but clipped wings prevented that quick. most of the time, dakota looked in the mirror and never quite knew who was looking back, saw the good in everyone else and tried to believe in it, but never saw it in themselves. they didn’t let their words or dreams grow too large, too wild, because they knew better than anyone how fast life could change. usually for the worse. saw men as a threat, conditioned to heel, thrashing and writhing for freedom from fear. more than anything, dakota ached to be wanted, to be needed. maybe if they could do that, they could find what it was they were missing inside. find who they actually were.

i hate the way tumblr formats indents but whatever <3 anyway! yes! oc things! celes has me in a vice grip while i'm wrangling dakota to figure them out. such is life.
