hongsang becomes more insane to me the more i read red chamber bc i keep noticing little things that make me want to explode. did you know mirrors are a pretty heavy motif in red chamber? Bao-yu flat out has a mirrored self in the text (i’m not there yet but i know that)

I don’t know if it’s even in a ship way but i keep noticing connections. They’ve both got a lot about being controlled/trapped and false contentment with that situation in their stories (this will find its way to canto 8. please) and the fact that it was THESE TWO to get the dimension shredder egos makes me want to explode

the more i look into these characters the more things i see that are paralleled and similar. The pretty art also helps lmao but i need to know their issues

yay angst and now the context: Hong Lu is based on the main character of the red chamber, Jia Baoyu. the main feature of Jia Baoyu is that he was born with jasper in his mouth (in general there is a more complex story, but that’s not the point now) and for everyone else it was a miracle and some kind of prediction that this child was special. in his ordinary life, Baoyu wears this jasper around his neck, but in a fit of emotion, he took it off several times and tried to break it, cause it does not bring him much happiness. because of her people don’t really pay attention to him, because of her he cannot be with his loved one, etc. and for Hong Lu, this jasper is reflected in his blue eye, which also combines something magical and fateful. considering that Hong Lu also had a far from sweet childhood, I have thought that Hong Lu might hate his eye just like Baoyu hates his jasper, and he might try to prick it out in a fit of emotion.

so karkat would be TOTALLY obsessed with mtxt books because its karkat and he loves huge romantic stories. he would be rambling dave about complex relationship he xuan and shi qingxuan, about devoted love of hua cheng, something about shen qingqiu and luo binghe and mdzs (sorry didn't read). and dave will be absolutely lost about all these chinese name and karkat will be like "isn't these are human books and names??? why are you mixing up shi qingxuan and shen qingqiu? they even are from different books, you know" and dave be like "bro i don't know chinese for honest troll names are easier" and karkat just "??????" and then karkat will drag dave to watch dunhua with him and he will be glowing on every cool moment and dave will try to understand who the fuck all these people
