Parenting types, same psychology works on your kids. They get the same buzz as “getting to buy the treat or toy”, you get the same smile. Their nervous system doesn’t know you didn’t actually spend money, and bonus their room doesn’t get cluttered with junk they’ve moved on from.
unsung benefit i think a lot of ppl are sleeping on with using the public library is that i think its a great replacement for the dopamine hit some ppl get from online shopping. it kind of fills that niche of reserving something that you then get to anticipate the arrival of and enjoy when it arrives, but without like, the waste and the money.

It’s worth noting that empty houses for profit is a rising problem in the USA too. Companies buy houses and then DON’T rent many of them out so they can create artificial scarcity and raise the rent prices on the rest of their properties without incurring the costs of upkeep.

Sometimes I think about how so many neurodivergent people relate more easily to animals than to neurotypicals, and can derive a lot of benefit from a relationship with a pet. Then I think about witches familiars in European folklore, and wonder if there’s a link.

I’m really glad it wasn’t his car. Even if it makes it less funny (and i’m not certain it does).
Edit: I’ve watched it several more times, now it’s still hilarious.

My personal fav is that Danny BELIEVES his biology disqualifies him. Amity is a pretty small town, that was so preoccupied by ghost attacks, they didn’t follow meta politics closely. It just didn’t seem super relevant when no meta heroes were showing up to help with their problems. (Not that any meta residents were likely to draw attention to themselves when Jack Fenton might decide they were actually a “GHOST!” He’s attacked random Teachers and Reporters for less.)
Danny spent his youth hiding his biology from his parents, and had that fear re-affirmed when he had to hide his biology from the GIW. Kid probably has severe anxiety about medical exams that will need to be worked through before he could subject himself to one for a government agency.
Honestly I think NASA’s best bet is if they have a designated team of head-hunters out looking to recruit metas with Danny’s specific skill-set. Danny will probably need to have a conversation with a representative who can definitively tell him his biology won’t be a problem before he can subject himself to an exam.
DPxDC Let Danny Be an Astronaut Dammit!
Every dpxdc fic and their mother has Danny not be able to be an astronaut because of his accident. Well I say NO!
LET THE BOY LIVE HIS DREAMS!!
We're talking DC, where meta humans are just a thing that exists. People have extraordinary powers and that's normal. NASA would totally have a specialized space program for metas who's abilities make them particularly desirable for outer atmospheric conditions!
Oh? What's that? You're a meta and your ability make you impervious to extreme temperatures? That would be super helpful in the freezing vacuum of space! Your ability makes you less sensitive to negative effects from g-forces and changes in gravitational pull? You can spend so much more time out of atmosphere without negative consequences!
NASA would love the opportunities opened up by these individuals and their specialized abilities. Give them Danny? They would be frothing at the goddamn mouth.
Doesn't need to breath, impervious to cold temperatures, can fly, so much more, and, if we go space core Danny, doesn’t need rations because he can get sustenance straight from the stars? He's everything they've ever wanted! Who cares if his vitals are fucky? They're normal for him! And once they have record of what his normal values are? No issue! In my vet classes we learn that you wouldn't treat a cat the same way as a bird because they have different needs and normal values. Well it's the same for humans and metas! I don't think Danny's different biology would be as big of an issue as a lot of fics make it out to be.

Wait, did ALL our dads use “it’s bedtime for Bonzo” on us?
the scariest thing about old tv isnt really the racism or the sexisim because you kinda go in braced for that it's all the scenes where suddenly an actress is holding a lion cub or a chimpanzee is in the same room as a toddler, or suddenly theres a lion, or there's a chimpanzee again but it's driving a car, or holding a lighter, or holding fireworks. You just kind of watch in horror as over and over an actress performs with only 1960s tv film shootings best animal handling between her and the opening to Nope.

I need to talk about how important this chapter is.
I like to watch court livestreams with legal commentary. In the last few weeks specifically I viewed the sentencing for both Hannah Gutierrez-Reed and the Crumbleys. Sentencing happens after guilt has already been determined by the court. There’s a portion for Victim Impact Statements; where those impacted by the crime speak to the court about the effect the crime has had on their lives.
During both sentencing streams there was discussion in the comments about whether the high emotionality of the victim impact statements was appropriate, or fair. Some people argued that the segment runs the risk of delivering harsher sentences for crimes with popular victims.
I think this chapter highlights how essential this segment in sentencing is.
Crime is inherently dehumanizing to the Victims. To perpetrate is to decide that your own goals are more important than the impact your actions may have on others.
Katara’s whole life has been defined by this moment, this man who ignored her cries and saw no problem in the actions he took to further his career. Whose entire culture saw no trouble in celebrating and promoting these sorts of conquests. For generations the suffering of countless children like her across the world has gone unheard.
But now even as the balance of power in the world has shifted into the hands of her own-“ish” people, Katara remains unheard. The tribesmen speak over her and ignore her protests. Their desire to handle their duty with expediency effectively re-victimizes her as she’s forced to stand between them and her perpetrator to make herself heard.
Hearing from victims is an essential element in justice. Without it we can’t have a justice system, we just have a legal power structure.

Much as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so is inspiration in the mind of the beholder. You don’t get to control how other people experience your art.
You DO have the right to decide IF people get to behold your art. If the idea of other people experiencing your work in ways you can’t predict or control is stressful or triggering to you, you have every right to keep it private. You don’t have to show people your work at all. You don have to explain your process, or offer tutorials, or answer questions about your tools. You don’t have to link someone else’s work to yours just because they told you they were inspired by you.
But once you’ve posted your work, how other creatives experience it belongs to them.
We ask your questions so you don’t have to! Submit your questions to have them posted anonymously as polls.

I mean toxic social behavior tends to have a profound impact on mental health even when you’re not directly involved so I really don’t know how to answer your question.
Ok but like how much lack of interest in my hobbies is mental health stuff and how much of it is just being sick of middle school style infighting that sucks the joy out of it

But how will they prove their intellectual superiority over others if they don’t harass strangers on the internet for daring to engage in the joy of artistic expression?
I love it when people hop on posts on fandom content and go WELL, THAT WOULDNT WORK, BECAUSE IN THE LORE— look. I have read countless stories of various methods in which the authors Get That Man Pregnant™️. Mayhaps suspend your disbelief in fake characters for ten minutes so that strangers online can have their fun. If you're only interested in enforcing 100% canon lore, your calling is in editing wiki pages.

Advice for getting LAID OFF.
AS SOON AS YOU GET HOME call your dr/dentist/optometrist/pharmacist/therapist/other.
Schedule appointments for before your benefits cut off, and refill all your prescriptions. You want to be seen asap just in case your Dr/practitioner notices something that requires a follow-up appointment.
Then file for unemployment. It is ESSENTIAL you do this the day-of. It is difficult and frustrating and complicated and you need time to possibly get things wrong and fix them or to find information you didn’t know you’d need. It will get infinitely more difficult on day two when your body actually starts to process your grief. (I can’t begin to tell you how many people get denied because they left it to last minute and then couldn’t get hold of a number or document they needed. The state is not your middle-school teacher. They won’t accept your late-work they just deny your request.)
You become really STUPID on day two. It’s not actually you, it’s your body’s response to a flood of difficult emotions and the disruption to its routines. Your thinking becomes slow and focusing is hard. If you’ve accomplished the thinking tasks yesterday you can spend today on simple repetitive tasks like cleaning or yard work that will reward your body with productive hormones. (Or you can go all in and let yourself have the breakdown you put off yesterday, it’s okay, you’ve done what you needed to be safe for a little while.)

Read this aloud to my mom. She was horrified.
Unfortunately since so much of media is geared towards mocking and dehumanizing the competition most trump supporters haven’t even heard about these events. They’re not discussed in their echo chambers, and the narrative that “liberals will make up lies to try and discredit honest republicans” is so pervasive that any MAGA who encounters a non supporter will not hear anything they say.
I honestly think the party is using cult analysis as a play-book.
An anguished question from a Trump supporter: ‘Why do liberals think Trump supporters are stupid?’
Peni Delina Bedard · August 31, 2019  ·  The serious answer: Here’s what we really think about Trump supporters - the rich, the poor, the malignant and the innocently well-meaning, the ones who think and the ones who don’t… That when you saw a man who had owned a fraudulent University, intent on scamming poor people, you thought “Fine.” That when you saw a man who had made it his business practice to stiff his creditors, you said, “Okay.” That when you heard him proudly brag about his own history of sexual abuse, you said, “No problem.” That when he made up stories about seeing Muslim-Americans in the thousands cheering the destruction of the World Trade Center, you said, “Not an issue.” That when you saw him brag that he could shoot a man on Fifth Avenue and you wouldn’t care, you chirped, “He sure knows me.” That when you heard him illustrate his own character by telling that cute story about the elderly guest bleeding on the floor at his country club, the story about how he turned his back and how it was all an imposition on him, you said, “That’s cool!” That when you saw him mock the disabled, you thought it was the funniest thing you ever saw. That when you heard him brag that he doesn’t read books, you said, “Well, who has time?” That when the Central Park Five were compensated as innocent men convicted of a crime they didn’t commit, and he angrily said that they should still be in prison, you said, “That makes sense.” That when you heard him tell his supporters to beat up protesters and that he would hire attorneys, you thought, “Yes!” That when you heard him tell one rally to confiscate a man’s coat before throwing him out into the freezing cold, you said, “What a great guy! That you have watched the parade of neo-Nazis and white supremacists with whom he curries favor, while refusing to condemn outright Nazis, and you have said, “Thumbs up!” That you hear him unable to talk to foreign dignitaries without insulting their countries and demanding that they praise his electoral win, you said, “That’s the way I want my President to be.” That you have watched him remove expertise from all layers of government in favor of people who make money off of eliminating protections in the industries they’re supposed to be regulating and you have said, “What a genius!” That you have heard him continue to profit from his businesses, in part by leveraging his position as President, to the point of overcharging the Secret Service for space in the properties he owns, and you have said, “That’s smart!” That you have heard him say that it was difficult to help Puerto Rico because it was in the middle of water and you have said, “That makes sense.” That you have seen him start fights with every country from Canada to New Zealand while praising Russia and quote, “falling in love” with the dictator of North Korea, and you have said, “That’s statesmanship!” That Trump separated children from their families and put them in cages, managed to lose track of 1500 kids, has opened a tent city incarceration camp in the desert in Texas - he explains that they’re just “animals” - and you say, “Well, OK then.” That you have witnessed all the thousand and one other manifestations of corruption and low moral character and outright animalistic rudeness and contempt for you, the working American voter, and you still show up grinning and wearing your MAGA hats and threatening to beat up anybody who says otherwise. What you don’t get, Trump supporters in 2019, is that succumbing to frustration and thinking of you as stupid may be wrong and unhelpful, but it’s also…hear me…charitable. Because if you’re NOT stupid, we must turn to other explanations, and most of them are less flattering.

And the moon is slowly moving away from earth so there was a time when eclipses didn’t display a corona and there will be a time when earth no longer experiences totality.
Already solar eclipses that happen when the moon is at apogee (the furthest point from earth in its orbit) won’t experience true totality. The 2023 eclipse was one of these.
Tumblr media
NO OTHER PLANET IN OUR SOLAR SYSTEM GETS TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSES!! THE SIZE AND DISTANCE OF OUR MOON FROM EARTH AND THE SUN MAKE THE PERFECT CIRCUMSTANCES TO GET TOTALITY!!! THE EARTH AND MOON ARE SOOOO COOL AND OF COURSE OUR SUN!! I LOVE LIVING ON EARTH I LOVE YOU EARTH I LOVE YOUUUUU MOON I LOVE YOU SUN

Check the model number against the manual you’re referencing before making any adjustments.
Often time these problems are actually the result of operator error; expecting one thing to function like something else entirely.
