BETTY : JJ MAYBANK
synopsis â in which jj maybank fell in love with his kook best friend, betty, but an end-of-summer argument sent them both into a downward spiral.
âIâm only seventeen, I donât know anything, but I know I miss you.â
For the last five months, JJ Maybank has had a smothering crush on his homeroom classmate and best friend, Betty.
And for every fifteen minutes of homeroom, they would be each others main source of serotonin. Betty tried to hold in her laugh every second JJ had made a joke in order to not disrupt the class, but always failed.
JJ knew Betty would laugh at every dad joke he had to offer, which made him giggle back at the blond sitting next to him.
Those first fifteen minutes of the day were the most special to JJ, as no one could ever replace the spark him and Betty shared
Later that day on the last day of school, JJ stands at Bettyâs front door. Hearing the loud bass of the speaker in her living room, watching people playing beer pong in that same room.
âDamn, I never knew Betty was such a kook. No wonder she never let us over.â John B said from behind him, observing the houseâs neat landscape.
JJ hesitated walking in, âBro, I donât think I can do it.â
âDude, are you okay? We know her. Sheâs one of us. I donât know what kook bullshit is going on here though.â John B replied, poking the expensive-looking plant on the porch.
JJ paid no focus to John Bâs words and caught a glimpse of Betty in the living room, wearing a poorly made flower crown Sarah Cameron made for midsummers. She laughed just like she did in homeroom with JJ, with her natural curls peeking though her hair as the Outer Banks humidity sets in.
âAlright, dude. Iâll go in.â He said, running a hand through his hair.
The pair walked into the party, spotting Kiara and Betty almost instantly. âGood luck, man. But Iâll be with Kiara downing shots.â John B smiled, patting JJ on the shoulders.
But if I just showed up at your partyâŚ
JJ made eye contact with Betty, causing her to immediately drop the ping pong ball she was about to throw. âJJ?â
Would you have me?
She walked up to him and gave him a short lasting hug, âWhat are you doing here?â
Would you want me?
JJ looked around at the nice things in her house, touching a glass vase with one finger. âSo this is where you live, kook Betty?â
Betty took JJâs hand and walked him into her fathers office, locking the door behind her. âI didnât tell you because I didnât want you to look at me differently.â
âI kind of knew you werenât a pogue,â JJ looked her up and down, âYou donât dress like one.â
The room grew silent until JJ spoke up once again, âIf youâre such a kook, why donât you go to the kook academy?â
Betty giggled before replying, âI went there for three months, and then got tore to shreds because I didnât have a Gucci bag at the ripe age of fourteen. Those peopleâs standards are something different.â
âJeez, glad you escaped that prison.â JJ smiled back.
âIâm sorry for not telling you. But Iâve been wanting to show you this place, I think youâll like it.â Betty smiled at the lovestruck Maybank kid, giving her a nod.
Betty took him by the hand once again, unlocking the office door. She led him into her backyard, walking past the pool.
Or lead me to the garden?
While walking to her gazebo surrounded by different types of flowers and plants, Betty looked at JJ with a wide smile before finally arriving to their destination.
The gazebo had a bench attached to it, where Betty sat down, looking at JJ while he observed the scenery.
You could hear the waves of the ocean, but only get a glimpse of the sight. âThis is some next level kook shit.â JJ laughed, still taking in the views.
âI didnât even know this existed until a month ago. But I thought youâd like it.â Betty smiled, gesturing the boy to come sit next to her.
JJ sat down next to her silently, waiting for her to initiate the conversation.
Betty stared at JJ sitting next to her, âNo more homeroom, huh?â
He eventually stared back at her, âAt least weâll have the whole summer.â
âHm. I guess youâre rightâ The blonde girl stared back, âHopefully weâll have homeroom together next year.â
JJâs gaze intensified, staring at Bettyâs facial features, one by one.
He observed how her one dimple shows only when sheâs with him, and how her midsummers flower crown perfectly accented her messy hairâwhich she tried to make look presentable before the party began.
Betty rambled on, talking about absolutely nothing but saying so much at the same time. JJ paid no attention to what she was saying.
Cutting Betty off, JJ closed the gap between them with his lips. She was obviously very surprised by his decision, but did not complain once it set in.
JJ held her face with one hand, while the other on her hip. Bettyâs hand made its way through JJâs hair, enjoying every second of this kiss.
Betty knew it couldnât last forever. JJ knew he would inevitably break her heart.
Now, JJ sits in his homeroom class on the first day of Junior Year.
He fidgets with the zipper on his pocket, seeing who else will come into the class.
JJ and Betty had a falling out just two weeks before school started, when he told the pogues the pair was just a summer fling behind her back.
As the bell rang, Betty walked into the classroom. She resisted JJâs gaze and sat in the opposite side of the room.
Betty talked to the students around her, not getting even a chuckle out of the conversation like she did when JJ was there.
JJ was forced to listen to their conversation and how dead Bettyâs voice sounds, along with her pin-straight hair that he knew was in an effort to change who she once was.
After fifteen minutes of torture, JJ finally got to leave and move on from what used to be his favorite part of the day.
Betty, I wonât make assumptions..
Over the course of the week, Betty was repeatedly called down to the counseling office in a known effort to change one particular part of her schedule.
âCounselor Harding, I know itâs a complete inconvenience but I genuinely need to switch my homeroom.â Betty begged for three days, until the counselor finally gave in and switched her into a homeroom on the other side of the school, so her and JJ wouldnât have to cross paths.
About why you switched your homeroom,
The next day, JJ didnât see Betty in homeroom, or anywhere in school for that matter.
But I think itâs cause of me.
For the rest of the month, JJ left her alone. JJ observed as she changed herself from who he once knew.
Rafe lured her into his world of fancy galas and sniffing coke, but all she could think of while going shopping on the mainland was JJ, every store in that mall reminded her of him, until she realized Rafe wasnât her way out.
She completely ghosted him and everyone else she knew, until her emotions could dial down enough to talk to JJ.
Meanwhile at the chateau, JJ was planning on showing up at Bettyâs front door. âShe hates me. What could I possibly do for her that Rafe hasnât?â
John Bâs eyebrows furrowed, âWell, youâre not Rafe. Do you think they lasted that long? Once you show up at her door, sheâll realize.â
Those words stuck in JJâs head, and for the next week he stayed up thinking about how he was going to execute his apology to Betty.
While driving to her house, he picked up some dandelions on the side of the road in hopes that it would help his case.
Betty, Iâm here on your doorstep, and I planned it out for weeks now.
JJ held the dandelions in his hands extra tight while approaching her porch, seeing Bettyâs car parked in the driveway.
But itâs finally sinking in.
The blonde haired boy rehearsed what would be said in their conversation, and which ways it could lead them to. His hands trembled as he reached the doorbell, pressing it in an instant.
Betty, right now is the last time I can dream about what happens when you see my face again.
Ten seconds later, Betty opened the door. She looked at his sweaty palms, along with the sagging dandelions in his hand. Her figure relaxed from its usual tense shape, locking eyes with JJ for the first time in three months.
The only thing I wanna do, is make it up to you.
Betty smiled at the blonde in front of her, âHi, JJ.â

VIGILANTE SHIT : RAFE CAMERON
synopsis â in which rafe cameronâs girlfriend finds out what heâs done to her, and makes him regret it.
âshe needed cold hard proof, so I gave her some. She had the envelope, where you think she got it from?â
For the past two years, Rafe Cameron has been toying around with his girlfriend. Having her wrapped around his finger, and always having pleasure right at his fingertips.
He scanned the country club for her, eyeing everyone in the crowd. When he didnât see her, he saw this as the perfect opportunity to find another girl.
Rafe checked y/ns location before looking for another girl by the pool, and was relieved to see that she had been at home.
As he made his way to the poolside, he ran into Topper, and some of the friends heâd brought along. âWhatâs up, Top. Whoâs this?â Rafe smiled ignoring the brunette topper was with, immediately looking at the red-haired girl with a low cut sundress on.
âThat would be Anna. Anna, this is Rafe. Stay away from him.â Topper sarcastically grinned, while Anna scanned Rafeâs body.
âHey, I donât think Iâve ever seen you here. You new?â Rafe asked her.
Anna knew his game and smiled, âNo, first time actually. I just moved to Figure Eight. Iâd love a tour.â
Rafe took this as his chance, âHm, I know where everything is in the club. I can show you around, only if you want.â
The red haired girl bit her lip subtly and replied, âYeah, Iâve got a ton of time on my hands.â Rafe then took her hand and led her inside the country club, where he walked into the upper west wing, which hasnât been touched in almost five years. The upper west wing became known as a hookup spot after Rafe and y/n first discovered it two years earlier.
As Anna silently smirked to herself while walking up the staircase, y/n entered the country club.
y/n immediately saw Topper walk out of the bar and decided to say hello. âHey, Top. Is Rafe here?â
âOh hey! Nah, you just missed him. I think he said he was going on the ferry for Wards Fatherâs Day present. Sorry.â Topper smiled, in a terrible attempt to cover up his lie.
You knew your boyfriend was at the club, since his dirt bike and his location all pointed to here. âHm. thank you, Topper.â
You walked away from him and sped up your pace to reach the upper west wing in the quickest amount of time possible, speeding past relatives, friends, and co-workers.
When you finally the room where you and Rafe first met, you are whiplashed by the sound of heavy breathing and quiet moans. You knew those breaths all too well, but had no idea who the girl sounded like.
âLadies always rise aboveâŚâ
Terrified, you ran down the staircase with tears welling in your eyes, being sure that your flowy hat covered your face while running to your car.
The next day, you met with Rafe at his house.
Rafe immediately invoked an aggressive kiss, âHey, I missed you so much.â
The smell of alcohol on Rafeâs body was extremely strong, so you decided to go easy on him today. âHey, Rafe. Where were you yesterday?â
He shut and locked his bedroom door, then looking up with a puzzled look. âWhat? Were you stalking me?â
âWhy wouldâNo. Where were you?â
Rafe looked away, figuring out what to say. âWhat the hell is your issue? I was on the mainland.â
âAlrightâ You grinned, indulging into another kiss with your soon to be dead boyfriend.
âLadies know what people wantâŚâ
Rafe wanted absolutely nothing more than to control you. He never saw you as an actual person with feelings, but more so something he could half-commit to.
You looked after the both of you were done having sex, and wondered if heâs ever felt 100% yours, because you were always 100% his. At parties, you were practically on a leash. Attached to the hip, if you will. Never left his side, but somehow he would always find a way to leave yours for another girl.
Now, youâve had enough.
Now, youâve been planning.
Now, youâve been scheming.
Waiting for the final momentâthe final blow, that will break your heart, but also break his skull.
By the end of this, Rafe will be so mentally worn out, he may as well be dead.
âSomeone sweet, and kind, and funâŚâ
While you were sitting on his lap, staring at the ceiling, Rafe was clearly texting another woman. The sudden grins, giggles, and lip bites all reminded you of what the two of you did when you first met.
Now, that is gone. Replaced by someone heâs never known.
No one will ever understand himâknow him, quite like you.
âFuck, y/n. Stop wearing that to club. You already embarrassed me last time wearing something that made it look like you have rolls. Go home and change, now.â
âHow much weight did you gain on the trip?â
âI was the most fucked up person at that party! I thought it was you that I was making out with!â
âThe lady simply had enoughâŚâ
âWell he was doing lines,â
ââŚAnd crossing all of mine.â
On top of the list of things that Rafe Cameron was clueless on, there was something that he just so happened to miss while y/n utterly destroyed his life.
John B Routledge & Sarah Cameron werenât the only witnesses of Sheriff Peterkinâs murder.
âSomeone told his white collar crimesâŚâ
ââŚTo the FBI.â
Y/n had one person to thank for helping her reveal who the person is behind Rafe Cameronâs mask: none other than his little sister, Sarah.
âLately sheâs been dressing for revenge.â
