Hello, hope you are having a good day/night
I was wondering if you had any rules or a lil guide line of sorts of things that you will and won't write?
Hi, thanks for the question.
Do:
- M!Reader (he/him and AMAB)
- Any variation of a character (ex. Soft!Joel, Dark!Joel, etc)
- Changing canon (only applies to character’s fate or journey)
Don’ts:
- F!reader
-Crossovers
-Adding elements from other worlds (this one is kinda like crossovers)
Thats about it, I don’t have too many restrictions on requests so hope this answers what you asked. Feel free to send me any specific idea if I didn’t cover it here and I can answer! 🙏

Dinner for 5 (Preview)
Joel Miller x Male!Reader
A/N: Fic is currently sitting at 4k+ words. Here’s a snippet of what to except at the end of the week! Nearly finished with it and honestly one I've been wanting to write about for a long while now, it's been sitting in my drafts for far too long. This will likely have multiple parts but I have to see where I end this pic and if a follow-up is plausible. Enjoy!
Summary: You’re a resident at Bill and Frank’s town. Lonely, with very limited communication outside of town, a longing sensation comes about when two new people visit; one man in particular completely captivating you.
Tumblr media
You watched as Frank began chatting with the pair, giving both of them a handshake while you began to draw closer. Your eyes trailed over Tess and then over the man, Joel, looking over his stature for far longer than you realized. The man was really surprisingly handsome, more so than you believed anyone could be from the QZ. This notion became even more prominent the closer you got. His curly brown hair, the way his shirt wrapped tightly around his shoulder; he was not what you expected at all.
Frank was leading them over to you now, waving you over to make you put in the same commitment as he was. You shivered hearing the gates behind them shut, queueing you to pick your pace up. Frank introduce you to them both as you close the distance between them.
"Nice to meet you," Tess starts shaking your hands, "Been hearing a lot about you."
You almost questioned her statement, taken aback by her knowledge of you well before meeting. You and Frank make eye contact, and his apologetic expressions says it all; he's done way too much talking on the radio.
"Uh, thanks...it's good to meet you too. Tess, right?"
She hums, "It's a pleasure."
You nod and reply, "Likewise." Both of you finish your greetings before you're now face with Joel, who looked more intimidating up close than he did from afar. It could be due to his stone cold expression, or the fact that the man looked physically stronger than you; you couldn't tell which was causing it.
He spook, his southern accent hitting you and making your overall interest in him rise, "'m Joel, but you probably already knew that."
You nodded as you took his hand in yours, shaking it for a lot longer than one needed too. You held on, unsure of when to let go, cause from what it seemed, he also didn't loosen his grip either, that is until things started to feel awkward. You release his hand, clearing your throat after staring at each other for an uncomfortable few moments.
Tess and Frank had already moved on pass you two, greeting Bill just behind you. You turn back to look at them and then back to Joel, moving out of his way and motioning from him to go up to Bill.
He nods, as a thanks and proceeds past you. Not a smooth start on your part, but at least it wasn’t a sour beginning.

A/N: Love you too Anonymous! Thanks for this request! I love subjecting characters to Joel and reader’s shenanigans, Tommy's you're up next up. I hope this is good, Enjoy!
Tumblr media
Joel never listened, he never does when he’s indulging himself in your scent. You tried reasoning with him, to get him to wait until the two of you got home and were confined behind your bedroom door. He couldn't say upfront, not while Tommy and Maria were sitting in front of you two. So he continued to grace his legs against yours, and rub his hand up your thigh under the table.
He really couldn’t wait, he was practically begging you for something more with his hand gripping your leg tightly. His touch and occasional gazes to his side at you, were hard to resist. You both made up an excuse to step aside, leaving Tommy and Maria to themselves at the table.
Joel dragged you into the restroom, with some privacy at last, Joel immediately starts kissing up on you; giving you no warning whats so ever.
He backed you up against the wall, parallel to the door. Gently he pushes you up against the tile panels, his lips still locked with yours.
It was hard to breathe, Joel just had a knack for stealing your breath away whenever he’d overwhelm you with his…everything. You had no complaints, so he’d constantly keep doing it, much to your enjoyment.
Huffing out, the man pulls back for some air and goes back in for more; adding soft bites to your lips in between smooches. He didn’t do it just cause he loved it, he liked getting a reaction out of you.
You grinned as his teeth nibbled on your bottom lip. You weren’t going to give the moaned he wanted to hear, not so quickly this time. You instead decided to give him a taste of his own medicine. He releases your lip from his teeth and you take the chance to bite back, pushing yourself off the wall and putting more weight against him.
Joel let out a moan of his own, one that dragged into the corners of the room. You could feel the rumbling of his voice shoot up your spine. It made you loosen your bite, allowing the man to retaliate by biting down on yours again; much harder this time.
You groan at the aggressive retort, pushing against his chest, you tried pulling away from him; to get some air. It was useless, the man just kept himself on you, moving himself forward with every nudge you made to his chest. Your earlier advance to take control was stripped from you with Joel’s body trapping you against the wall again.
Again you attempted to seize him, to even the odds and tame his need for you. You tried grabbing onto his collar, but even that wasn’t going to fly with him.
As if he could read your mind, he grabs your hands before you could get half way up to his neck. It was a failed attempt, but at least it got him to release your lip from his nibbles.
“That’s cute,” he says, licking his lips. There was something awfully overconfidence behind his voice, like he knew with every one of your attempts, he’d just counter it with something of his own.
A small smile grew across your face, taking his words as a challenge. Wagering your odds with Joel was futile, he always had control over the both of you; more so you since your scent drove him nuts. Even so, gesturing the potential to outdo him, was something he himself liked seeing.
You never tried hard enough to do so, perhaps knowing he'd just take back the lead every single time.
Joel leaned back in and start nibbling on parts of your face. Starting from your chin, and trailing his way to your ear. By then, he had already let go of your wrist, allowing you the chance to grip onto his hair. It's curly texture got lost between your fingers as your twirled with it around your hand.
His hot breath got louder within your ear along with his nostrils which flared with hunger.
His hands began wondering your pants, caressing around your hips, and even gripping tightly between your legs. You recoil with a yelp and a slight shift. Joel was seeing how thrilled you had gotten, testing the waters to see how stimulated you had become. He could feel it between your pants, how solid you were, how ready you were for him.
He groan at the thought, removing his hand and pushing his hip up against yours. He needed some friction, and needed it soon. The tightness in his pants spiked, upon feeling your body against his. He muttered, “Fuck”, into the small of your neck, taking the chance to start grinding up on you.
Each time his groin rubbed up against yours, you felt yourself become more enticed, the willingness to just let it all happen was more apparent than ever.
It was probably for the best that things didn't escalate from there, cause the restroom door had swung open. The door had almost gone unnoticed by your groans if not for Joel's good ear picking up on the slight creek.
He turned his gaze to the side, escaping your neck and locking eyes with the person at the door; Tommy. Joel’s heart skipped a beat, feeling his face becoming flush at the scene. What felt like a long awkward stare, only had lasted a second before Tommy pull himself back from the door; retracting himself from the room.
The sound of the door shutting finally caught your attention, causing you to open your eyes. You tilted your head, looking in the direction of the door, similar to Joel.
You questioned for a second if someone had walked in, but quickly disregard the thought as no-one seemed to be present beside you two. Shrugging the thought away you gave Joel a kiss on his exposed cheek, bringing his focus back to you.
He turned, interlocking his lips with yours. You kissed each other for a bit, mimicking each others relaxed gestures. Joel was the one to tone it down, and you went along with him. He did it to mask his embarrassment and get the two of you to stop without it being so sudden.
You parted your lips from him, "What happened cowboy, change your mind?"
"No, just wanna save you for later", he claims, partly lying through his teeth. He would've fucked you right there if he could, but the image of his brother popping up in his head, catching him in the act, would've affected his prowess.
You didn't catch any signs of something being wrong, believing his words to be true. You both pulled yourselves together and exited the restroom.
You made your way back to the table, with Joel behind you, watching as Tommy and Maria stopped their conversation when spotting you.
"There they are," Maria states, raising her glass up in your direction. "Was beginning to think you bailed on us."
You pulled out your chair and took a seat, "We wouldn't do that to you guys." You grabbed the drink you had left, as Joel sat back down next to you.
"We thought you two might've. Needed a second I imagine." Tommy questions looking between the two of you.
Joel cleared his throat, feeling his face getting red. He wanted to be anywhere but at the table.
You straighten up your shirt, hoping the neither of them had noticed how disheveled it had become, "Nah we just, had to talk-something urgent."
Maria rose her brow, "Is everything ok? You know we're all family here."
"Yeah it's just, you know...private stuff, nothing of concern," you assured her. Maria nods in understanding while Tommy merely hums.
"Private stuff....," Tommy repeated, looking over at his brother intently. The corners of his lips rose faintly, enough to be missable if Joel wasn't making eye contact.
Joel questioned if his brother had felt any shame, or even any dignity for that matter. Walking in on him like that, he should be just as embarrassed as he was. His face told a different story. Either Joel was seeing bits of Tommy's past self, immature and reckless, or he was just proud to see his brother had found someone to be happy with. It was hard for Joel to believe the latter with Tommy giving him such a snarky look.
"Now that we're all here shall we toast?" Maria asks eyeing everyone at the table.
Tommy grips his glass, "Yep."
You nodded in agreement, looking at Joel who was left staring at his brother. You nudged his shoulder with your elbow, getting him to reply with Maria. "Joel"?
It snapped him out of it and he replies, "Gladly," picking up his glass like everybody else.
"To a better a future," she announces, raising her cup up. Everyone else raises their's up to, leaning in and clanging the glasses together.
Pulling your glass to your lips you joke to Maria, "Make sure that's not whine."
She scoffs into her glass, sipping down her portion of apple punch. She'd gladly drink some alcohol if not for her being pregnant, punch was the next best thing.
Everyone sets their glasses down after one shot.
Sighing, Joel leans back into his chair, feeling a bit relaxed that he had something to drown out his embarrassment. But Tommy’s gaze never changed, his eyes still lingered on his brother as the group sat in silence for a moment.
Tommy, to Joel’s delight, stood up and started walking off suddenly. “Excuse me.”
“Where you going,” Maria asked.
“Restroom”, he called out.
Maria question why he needed to go again, not wanting to shout for the man as he walked off into the back.
Joel was glad he was free from his brother's cunning gaze, but when he returns, he was certain he was going to need a couple more shots.

Request: "Long story not so short reader's the one to encounter David, he gives Joel the medicine, reader is the one who kills David. Joel and Ellie find him, Joel seeing that he went outside alone, he killed someone for the first time and basically put himself at risk just to take care of Ellie and to prove Joel that he isn't cargo and obviously Joel fucking breaks because the guy he's in love with did all this shit to keep safe the two people he cared for the most and didn't give his life any value even before that. Reader was always behind to warn them if something was gonna attack, or to defendem with his body first and Joel didn't notice until that moment."
A/N: This prompt has a lot of angst and I love it! Has some slow build up so I really hope this is what you wanted anonymous, Enjoy!
Tumblr media
“Where, WHERE THE FUCK IS HE?!” Joel screamed. His growl was enough to shake the wooden walls and it definitely rattled Ellie, who had her gun pointed at their second hostage tied up against the table.
Joel was furious, with his injury, with the lack of information, and most importantly, your absence. Ellie had told him everything about the raiders, how they came to kill him, how you acted as bait to lure the ruffians away from the town. Ultimately you failed and were captured. He didn’t need to know all the details, just hearing Ellie recite this to him was enough to get him off his deathbed, away from the cold mattress.
The man Joel had in his grasp, screamed out as the knife drove deeper into the man’s knee. “I don’t know…” he cried in anguish. Joel didn’t give a damn, whipping the man’s head back to get him to focus on his words. “Where. Is. He?”Joel's voice is much lower but just as menacing as before.
“They…” the raider muffled, “..there…there’s a town.”
“What TOWN?!”
His screams were enough to cause the second man on the floor to shift, Ellie positions her gun in line with the man’s head. “Leave him alone man, I can tell you where it is. It’s-”
Joel yelled again, “Shut up,” pulling the knife out from the man’s knee. Just on the small table next to him was a map, he grabs it while shoving the knife’s handle into the man’s mouth. “Point to where it is. It better fuckin’ match up with your buddy.”
The man sobs through the handle, with the map being held to his face. He did as told, drawing a line across the crinkled paper. He spits the knife out into his own lap, “There…ok? It should be there, fucking psycho”. Joel looks at the location, Silver Lake. “I wouldn’t hold my breath,” Joel's eyes look back at the raider, “David’s probably chopped him up by now,” he laughs.
Joel gritted his teeth, eyes as dark as the night. In one swoop motion he grapples the blade and shoves it against him, receiving a cry from his buddy off to the side. “Noo.”
The other hostage tried moving, as if he could somehow save his dying companion. Ellie of course was on it, “Move again, and I’ll shoot you.”
He tried pleading with them, in a state of hysteria, knowing he might have the same demise. Ellie had her gun, her aim shaky, scared to kill again but ready if it meant less obstacles later.
Joel though didn’t want her doing the dirty work, he was up and by her side, lightly pushing her hand down to lower her aim. “Get the horse ready”, he said with a small hint of guilt in his voice. Joel had insisted she stay hidden in the basement while he interrogated them, instead, she wanted to help. The older man didn’t have it in him to argue with her, between his grogginess and his wounded stomach, it wouldn’t have done him any good.
This time she did as told, lowering her weapon and walking out of the room.
Joel’s gaze turns to the man, tightening his fingers.
“We should’ve blasted you motherfuckers when we had the chance!”
“Maybe you should have,” he says, bringing his knife down onto the man’s skull.
------------
The Silver Lake town was in shambles, people were yelling, people were running for their lives, and some were even fighting each other. Chaos ensued outside from your hiding place. Word got out on what was in their last meal, human remains. The people freaked out and began fighting, guns blazing.
You were sat up behind a counter, a pool of red just inches from you. Trembling at the sight, you tried collecting yourself. It was the first time you killed somebody, someone you couldn’t spare for once. You were moments away from being turned into a dish, what were you supposed to do? The thought made you nearly gag, you didn’t know how Joel didn’t feel the same way after he did the same. Perhaps he did and was just numb to it all.
It didn’t matter though how you felt, you lived, you survived. You’d get to breathe freely even if it was for another moment. There wasn’t much time to celebrate, as nothing was in the world, because another set of footsteps entered into the massive dining hall. The quickness and sudden entrance made you jerk.
You listen carefully, as the person trailed around the room.
He said your name and you recognized that voice. Fucking David. Shit. He was the last person you wanted to encounter, especially in your hazed state. To some degree your fizzled mind was more alert than ever. After all, you trusted him. He gave you medicine, let you and your friends live; he must’ve had a change of heart. Or his plan to raid your rundown base, kidnap one of you even, was his intention all along.
He called out for you again, sending a chill up your spine, “I know you’re in here. Why don’t you come on out, we can just work this out. Like ole pals”.
His voice, so condescending he might as well just say he wanted you dead. His voice was far, not enough to calm your nerves. Peering around the counter, through all the chairs and tables, you can make out the movement of a gray door. It swung, with a faint bit of light shining from behind. That was your way out, it had to be. The front door wasn’t an option as that would expose you to David and the mayhem happening just outside. There was probably a window, or even better another door just beyond the one you saw ahead. You needed to leave.
“If you take me to your friends, I’ll let you off scout free. We can forget about this whole mess, start over.”
Yeah right? Like you’d put your faith in him again. After he captured you and put you in a cage, after he ordered his man to cut you up like an animal; like hell you’d trust him.
Hearing David’s steps, slowly trailing around made you move, making sure you were as quick as can be. You kept your distance behind pillars, seats, and small walls; constantly keeping track of him through sound and small glimpses from your hiding spot.
You were now close, hiding behind a a seated booth that hid you from David’s sight and had the backdoor completely in full view. Anyone coming through the door would see you. It was tempting just to run for it. Doing so would alert him, causing you more trouble than you could’ve ask for.
A distraction is what you needed, something to keep him busy for a time. But would do that? A molotov might do the trick, the idea came about while you looked over at the bottle on a nearby table. If only you had a rag and a lighter.
Your knife would have to do, as you prepare yourself for a sneak attack.
————
Joel and Ellie made it, Silver Lake. The place was in shambles, they were caught off by the shouting, the combustion; initially thinking they'd have to sneak their way through a heavily guarded town.
Joel couldn't tell if he'd prefer what he was expecting, or the situation they were in now. There wasn’t time to waste, thinking too hard would just prolong your rescue.
The two kept behind a brick wall, watching and waiting for an opening. Joel’s plan was to search all the buildings that likely had a kitchen or butcher room. They’d have to wait until the gunshots came to a steady, not wanting to get caught in any cross fire.
One last shot rang out, before all that was left was the sounds of the howling winds. It lasted long, and the two gazed at each other before Joel decided to peek around the corner. Only three men remained, at least from what he could see. He could easily take them all with just a few bullets, but his aching stomach would prove to make that difficult.
“Jesus, can’t believe they’d turn on us.”
“Yeah, where the fuck did David go?"
Was there a dispute? Did you cause this? Who cared, not Joel. He just wanted to know if you were alive and well, afraid the ladder was high unlikely and wishful thinking.
Fuck it. He pulls his rifle up, groaning as he lined up his aim. Ellie got herself prepared too, locking eyes with Joel and communicating they’re next action through gaze alone. One of the men were facing away from them, he takes aim before pulling, taking one guy out.
It startles the other two, leaving them confused. It gave Joel time to reload behind cover before coming back out and down went the raider. None of them could hide besides one, who ducked behind the opposite side of the building the two were already hiding behind.
He had his rifle aimed just at the edges of the brick wall, ready to tap the raider the moment he peaked over. Ellie had herself up against Joel, somewhat curious if the coast was clear. His sharp, focused eyes said otherwise.
Just as half of the raider's face came into view, Joel was quick to dispose of the last man with a piercing shot to the face. Falling to the ground, the coast looked to be finally clear. The silence almost seemed threatening, like a trap was awaiting them if they stepped out from their hiding spot. Nothing of course convinced Joel of this other than his own worry.
“Stay close to me”, Joel instructs Ellie. She nods, taking small steps behind Joel to keep her pace steady for the injured man.
They didn’t have a certain route, just trailing the walls and looking into the windows of buildings as they passed by each one; alleyways included. Joel sporadically looked around, trying to locate you while keeping a lookout for any other threats. Ellie did the same, but kept her eyes out for you.
Joel, so caught up in the moment, hadn’t realized Ellie’s light steps growing distant by the second.
He turned to her, eyes widening at her recklessness, “Ellie”! She wasn’t listening, her eyes were squinted, investigating the figure just beyond the alleyway. She could have swore she recognized who it was, until she got closer. She gasped.
Joel calls her name again, this time she listen.
“Joel,” she waves her hand over, “It’s y/n”. She ran into the alley leaving Joel to limp his way over to the other side of the street. She could’ve at least helped him, after hearing that you were alive, the man wanted to run but couldn’t.
He crosses the street, and is parallel with the valley and spots you at the other side, knees deep into the snow; draped in stains of red.
Ellie had already cross the distance in a sprint. She grabs your arms, startling you from your paralyzed state. Looking up from the snow, you were shocked to see Ellie, she was here. How? You had told her to stay and watch out for Joel, now she was here?
You had some questions but decided to hold them off, just wanting to be reminded what a caring embrace felt like. You reach your hand up and Ellie comes down to you with a hug. You could feel your tears welling up, wanting to forget the hell you just experienced.
Hearing a set of steps hit the snow, you snap your gaze to the side. Some of your questions were answered on sight just seeing Joel struggling as he limped over to you. Your tears finally started pouring down your face. "Joel, I fucking did it. I killed someone," your voice quivered.
You're words barely graced the man's ears. He just was happy you were still here, functioning normally too. He drops down to you, cupping your face and making you keep eye contact with him.
When you tried speaking again, it came out disjointed. It was a blend between an explanation and an apology. Yet Joel knew what you meant by the few words that escaped your shaky lips.
The way he treated you up to this point, your dispute weeks ago, the one that shut you down completely; when Joel yelled at you for not defending yourself. He did it out of fear, you nearly got kidnapped for god knows what reason. By then he was fed up with your passiveness, practically calling you useless and nothing more than dead weight.
He very quickly regretted this over the next few days, the lack of any soul in your voice was aching to hear. Ellie was feeling the effects of this too, trying to make small talk with you, but you never had much to say. The raising pain he felt made him feel guilty, believing his actions didn't justify his emotions. You likely we're in greater pain than he was.
Joel ran his fingers across your cheek, wiping away the drops leaving your eyes. You look down, "I'm sorry I...I tried protecting Ellie, and you..."
Hearing your voice was just furthering the wounds in the older man's heart. He shook, his head reminded of his wrongdoings. "No no no..." he pulls your face back up, "Sweetheart, we wouldn't be here if it weren't for you," Joel tried hiding the cracks in his voice. "You saved me, you watched over Ellie, I can't thank you enough. And..." he paused, his guilt coming back into the forefront. "''m sorry, for everythin'. I shouldn't have said any of it, I'd go back and change it in a heartbeat."
His words were touching, as if you didn't have enough to keep your tears flowing. You close your eyes in an attempt to hide yourself, to save the two people you cared about much the trouble of witnessing you break down. A combination of everything you'd suffer through just came crashing down onto you. The embarrassment of appearing weak in front of Joel, wasn't enough to stop your cries.
This time, he wouldn't push you away, not like last time. He pulled you in, his forehead pressing up against yours. He just kept repeating his remorsefulness, each time his voice grew softer until it was a whisper like the wind.
Ellie was also providing you extra security with her head leaning into the back of your shoulder. She would thank you later, with her own words, but she thought it was appropriate to comfort you now. Without you, she'd have no idea how to mend Joel or even handle David. It scared her thinking about doing everything you've done all alone.
You spent some time regaining your composure in Joel's warm palms, reaching up to place yours over his, you didn't realize how numb it had gotten from the freezing cold. You grip them tightly, clearing away the sorrow with a sniff.
"We need to go, okay?"
You took a second but eventually nodded.
Joel nods too in approval, he grips your hands in his own, and stands slowly, pulling you up along with him. Ellie lifts herself on her own accord, giving you some breathing room to physically reconcile with Joel. Seeing him wrap his arm around your back, his chin stuck to the side of your forehead, gave her hope that things going forward between you two would get better.
She informs you, "The horse isn't far," grabbing ahold of you before leading you forward.
Being that close to you, glued to your side, he wish he could tell you how much you meant to him. With the nightmare you just experienced, dropping something heavy like that would have to wait, you’d been through more than enough.
For once he was just happy, to finally make up with the man he loved, dearly.

A/N: Not weird at all Anonymous, thanks for the request! I actually learned more about bear behavior writing this funny enough. Glad you liked one of my previous fic, hope you take a liking to this one. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
Shots rang out between your heavy grunts and the growls of the rageful mammal. You had stepped into its territory, not purposefully and completely unbeknownst to you. You were just trying to get by, just trying to find a safe place to rest before dark. Everything was peaceful up till that point until you were faced with a bear, a fairly aggressive one that charged at you.
Seeing it afar, you were obligated to turn around and leave its sight. The moment it saw you, it was instantly startled by your presence, halting its interest in catching any food near the lake and standing on its hind legs.
It was likely scared, as the bear itself wasn’t very large, likely still in its earlier years. Maybe the young mammal was just gonna watch as you walked back into the woods, but no. It charged at you, either threatened by you or perhaps desperate for any source of meat.
Intentions didn’t matter, the animal was charging you down and you took shots at it. They weren’t as effective as you thought, the small bullets looked as if they barely fazed it. What didn’t help was your shaking hands, after running out of bullets, you needed to reload. You groan, making a split second decision to just run. Fighting a bear head on, would make for a cool story if the odds weren’t stacked in your favor. Not to mention you needed to actually survive the encounter to tell the tale, which wouldn’t be likely if you tried being a badass.
Your steps clashed with the snow below, attempting to run as fast as you could. The snow wasn’t deep, rather thin enough to see the grass still sticking out. Running proved to be effective, adrenaline kicking into high gear. You didn’t know how long you ran, just focusing on finding any way to ensure safety. In the back of your head, you knew it was just something to give you comfort in this hopeless situation, nothing was gonna save you from this other than your own wit or luck.
Unfortunately your tactic wasn’t good enough cause you felt a sharp pair of claws strike your back. You scream out, falling into the harsh ground with a thud, the blades of the greenery engulfed your face.
With your face in the ground, you knew this was it. Your end wasn’t going to be by a clicker, a horde or even a person; but an animal, definitely not something you expected would come to be.
You groaned into the soil, anticipating its sharp teeth to sink in your skin. Even with the layer of clothes you had on, you were sure the bear would have no problem getting through.
Everything felt like it was going in slow-motion, preparing for your last moments to be filled with growls from the beast. What came instead, was a gunshot. It sounded heavy, causing the bear to growl once more, turning its attention away from you. The heavy bullet pegged its neck before another hit its skull as it tried running. The mammal went down, collapsing a couple of feet away from your legs.
Hearing nothing, other than your own quick breaths, had a sense of relief washing over you. You were saved from being mauled. But by who? The question repeats in your head becoming a lot more unsettling when realizing it was a person; a total stranger. Your condition only made you fearful as you pushed yourself onto your elbows. Looking up, you glance in the direction of the ever growing footsteps. A man, dressed in a thick brown coat, walked over to you with his weapon in hand. He stopped just beside you, making it hard to see his face.
You mumble, “Help…please…”, seeing if the man was dangerous or not. Chances were he’d just put you out of your misery, after seeing what had transpired.
He didn’t, the man pulls the strap of his weapon over his shoulder, and kneels down to you. The man looks you over, seeing the dark red slashes across your coated back.
“Damn”, he murmured observing the long trail that went down your back. The beast got you good. He leans his hand into your shoulder, “Can you walk?”
“I think, yeah.”
There was some doubt in your voice, but at least you were cohesive. The man would’ve taken any answer that implied you could function. “C’mon, you're not safe out here.”
The man pulled you up until you were on your knees. He then gets in front of you, getting his hands under your arms, and yanking you to your feet. The whole process had you wincing.
Finally standing you started to feel light-headed. You lean into the man, accidentally, feeling your balance becoming unsteady. You grapple onto his bicep to keep from falling. In turn the man grabs your sides, “Easy.”
It was difficult, with your head feeling like it was going to implode. The man then let out a whistle. You assumed it was for his horse, cause there was no way he was out walking aimlessly like you were. This man looked like he had himself situated compared to you.
You waited, both hearing the sounds of the horses' hooves growing closer; along with a neigh.
You looked back at the deceased bear, and then turned back to the man, who continued to hold you upright, “Thank you”.
He nods. Although his face was mostly stone cold, there was a glint of concern behind his eyes.
The horse had slowed its pace just outside the two’s reach. The man carefully walked you over, allowing you to lean your head into his shoulder. Strangely he didn’t seem to mind at all. He lets you take a second to put your weight into the horse, breathing out you try hoisting yourself up, failing with the pain. He had to help you onto the horse, before he himself got up into the front.
Grabbing the reins, he looks over his shoulder, “Hold on, gonna be awhile.”
You do just that, wrapping your arms around his waist. He was off, taking you somewhere you weren’t sure of. Regardless of where, you were sure he had no bad intentions.
“What’s your name”, you asked.
He hesitates and doesn’t answer right away. You thought he might not have heard you, but he does indeed reply, “Joel.”
From there on you two remained silent throughout the ride, say for the occasional grunts that slipped out of you. You squeezed the man each time the sharpness increases, randomly. It made the ride agonizing to sit through, making the journey feel much longer.
The horse came to a slow stop near a small cabin. You don’t know where you were anymore, you’d had your eyes closed for most of the ride, and your mind was too focused on the pain.
The man, Joel, got off the horse, helping you down and taking you into the house. He set you down onto the couch, careful not to touch your back. He steps away, removing both his jacket and going over to retrieve some supplies.
Sitting on the couch you couldn’t help leaning forward as just across from you was a fire, a small one within the fireplace, it was enough heat to keep you from shivering.
Joel had returned with a bucket in hand, along with what looked to be a first aid kit. He sets the supplies down on the table just in front of the couch. "Arms up," he says.
You really didn't want to, but at the same time, you needed something to ease the pain. You lifted them up, gritting your teeth harshly. Joel had helped remove all your layers until you were completely shirtless. It felt strange being this exposed to someone you just met not even an hour ago.
His eyes lingered on you for a bit, observing features of you that weren't even freshly injured, He was supposed to be telling you to turn around, but it looked like he might've got distracted.
You reminded him of what he was about to do, by putting your back to him hoisting your one leg onto the couch while the other is placed on the floor. "How bad does it look?"
Your question got him back on track, causing him to furrow his brows at the sight. His hesitation to say was probably more telling than a response. The scratches were rather dark now, beginning to swell in some areas with strains of blood leaking down. "Pretty bad," he says, grabbing the rag from inside the bucket of water, "It looks like it might be getting infected."
"Oh great..." you comment, hearing the man squeeze the rag drag dry. His weight hit the couch behind you, causing you to shift while he scoots closer to you.
"Ready?"
You hummed, straightening up your posture. He didn't even give you another second after responding to prepare, the cold rag ran up one of the sharp trails, getting you to yelp. “Damn,” you whined, your fingers digging into the cushion.
“Thought you were ready,” the man says wiping away at all the red.
“And I’d thought you’d be more gentle.”
This got Joel to huff, amused by your retort. He ran another stroke across the next scratch. “Seems gentle ain’ suit you.” He noticed the other scars along your body, some overlapping the others. What stories were behind those, he wondered.
You raised your brow, gritting your teeth, “Why you say that?”.
He wanted to point out the old scars but refused, and that case he’d have to admit he was looking you over, “Not often you come across someone who travels alone. Usually people stick to groups. Seems odd you ain’ in one.”
“I get that a-lot, everybody I've run into thinks I'm a distraction. They believe I'm bait for a group, and that they'll jump out and kill them."
Joel knew that mentality well, after all he’s been on both sides of said scenario. It was haunting how many people he killed during those days, at least he now had a keen eye for when something like that was about to go down.
He hums. After rubbing off all the blood, he reaches over to the table again, pulling out a second rag, the used rag gets dumped into the bucket to rinse. Joel also opens up the first aid kit, pulling out a tiny container of alcohol. "I don't get that impression from you," the man assumes, poring a small bit of the liquor into the cloth.
"Really," you piped up carefully looking over your shoulder.
The man glares back at you. "Yeah, really."
The corner of your lips rose, at last someone wasn't accusing you of being a raider. From his relaxed voice, there wasn't much evidence to assume he was lying. The fact that he even thought about helping you should've been enough to disprove any suspicion. Although, saying your thoughts out loud would make you a hypocrite.
You couldn't trust everybody of course, but assuming everyone was untrustworthy wouldn't be of much advantage to you.
Joel finished patching you up, through applying alcohol, adding a couple of stitches, and bandaging the long scrapes; you could finally just relax. He had told you, you could stay and even offering to make a bed out of a couple of blankets. You thanked him and preferred to stay rested on the sofa where you had dosed off not long after.
You shook through the night, jerking and twitching each time you felt the cutting sensation run up your back. It made sleeping impossible, and the moment you did fall asleep, a nightmare was awaiting you inside your unconscious state. You dreamed of its claws, the jagged teeth, the crushing weight above you; playing the outcome of it tearing into you.
It felt real, too concrete, you could've swore the dream was reality, and you being saved was an outcome you made up in your head within the few seconds you had left to live.
You awoke to a slight brush run against your arm. You were still half seated in the sofa, only now leaning into the back cushion with one shoulder. You nearly jumped up at the sudden touch, thinking again you were still in the horrid dream. You couldn't be more relieved to see that it was just Joel, his figure looming in front of you.
"Hey," his voice comes out as a whisper.
For the first time you took a liking to the man's accent, the tenderness behind his vocals might just be the cure for your night terrors.
He continued to speak, "I heard you from the other room, sounded like a hustle out here," he explains, referring to your occasional grunts that rang out across the living room.
You realized what he was talking about, you flutter your eyes shut in humiliation, "Sorry," was all you could say. You felt obligated to explain yourself, to give him a good reason why you were causing a commotion. "Was having a bad dream. I'll try keeping it down, I-". It felt like a poor excuse but it was genuinely all you had to offer. Joel was understanding to your surprise.
"It's quite alright, I get those myself,” his face turning to a frown as he explained, with his thump stroking in rhythm on your skin.
The embarrassment, subsides, feeling a small connection with Joel. You didn’t expect someone, as gruff as he was to be disturbed by anything, let alone a passing dream. It didn’t make you doubt that his dreams were way worse then yours.
The older man breathes out, letting his hand slide off of your shoulder. No please, you thought, desiring his hands against your skin.
He opened his mouth, about to speak, but you grabbing his wrist cut him off. Both of you looked shocked, you more than him at your reflexes. You completely ignored the pain surging through your flesh, completely caught in a trans.
Your gazes tangled together, making your face feel flush. You look away and guide his hand towards your skin. His hands, massive in your grasp, fell once more into its previous position. Feelings of calmness and delight filled you again; just a strong as before.
It registers in Joel's mind, seeing how you reacted to him releasing his touch and the way your body relaxed reliving his warmth, that you enjoy it.
He decided to sit down next to you, this time in the direction you were facing, his touch never leaving your arm. The man wasn't tired anyway, lack of sleep just felt normal nowadays.
His fingers run long circles up and down your skin, getting a shaky breath out of you which managed to settle after a minute. No longer did your breath feel as if it was hitching your chest. His touch was sending small tingles all the way up your shoulder.
You started feeling your eyelids becoming heavy, becoming much harder to stay awake and savior how gentle the man was touching you. You could see through your blurred vision his head tilting in your direction from time to time, as he laid back into the cushion finding your skin comforting to caress.
You smirk thinking having some sort of company was his reason for rescuing you. With one eye peeled open you asked, "Did you save me just for this?" It was more of a drowsy joked than anything that slipped out.
He didn’t answer, he just kept his gaze focused on the wall ahead. Possibly even biting back the urge to smile. It was impossible to tell, with your ever darkening vision. You don’t know if you’ll get ab answer, most certainly not that night, and possibly never upfront. Still, the idea brought another smile to your face before drifting off into darkness.

Hello! So happy your requests are open. Hope you have a good time writing them ^^
I have a Joel x male reader one that can be kinda angsty but not that much (i think lmao)
So basically let's say Joel and reader meet during the apocalypse but reader just sticks with Joel and Ellie because the three are going to the same place, during all that time reader and Ellie establish a good relationship and have quite a lot of fun together but reader can barely survive on his own and Joel just keeps him around because Ellie asks him to without knowing that Joel may or may not be trying to block his feelings for the reader who's basically a sunshine but Joel still labels him as cargo.
When they're on the way to get Ellie to the fireflies Joel and reader argue because reader got attacked and Joel had to go and save him because reader's still afraid to kill people. This leads to Joel and him having an argument so reader just stays quiet for the rest of the jurney until Joel got stabbed and reader was the one to go get medicine instead of Ellie, he asked the girl to stay with Joel until he came back.
Long story not so short reader's the one to encounter David, he gives Joel the medicine, reader is the one who kills David. Reader was always behind to warn them if something was gonna attack, or to defendem with his body first and Joel didn't notice until that moment.
THIS IS TOO LONG BUT YOU CAN MAKE IT AS SHORT AS YOU WANT I'M SORRY I SWEAR THE MAJORITY OF IT IT'S ME BEING OVERLY DESCRIPTIVE LMAO
Here!
Thanks again for the request! Hope you like it!

A/N : Hey Anon, thanks for the submission. This one's just cute. I hope this is what you wanted, enjoy!
Tumblr media
Ellie sighed heavily, making her way down the staircase. She really wanted to stay home for the day, she hated going to that god awful school she attended. Reading and Writing, Math and Statistics; including having to go multiple times a week. Really? She should be learning how to hunt and better defend herself, she thought. This commune live just wasn't cutting it.
Making her way to the living room, she tosses her bag onto the couch. She might as well fetch breakfast to cheer herself up before leaving. The school wasn't so bad. She at least had Dina, a friend of hers to keep her company during class time. For her, that was the only thing keeping her from skipping classes all together.
She made her way toward the kitchen area, picking up on the stirs and sizzling pan on the other side of the wall. Curious, she makes her away around the corner.
Joel was sitting at the corner and then there was you stationed up at the even. That was surprising to her. You rarely ever got a change to visit due to your workload in the greenhouses. So you being there, so early in the morning, was a warm welcome.
Ellie gasped, calling your name and running up to you. You hadn't even gotten a chance to say or take notice of her before her arms were wrapped around you.
"Morning to you too", you joke, patting the top of her head. “Your food is on the counter by the way.”
She pipes up and turns to look over at the untouched plate next to Joel, a growing excitement running across her face. Eggs and Bacon, "Oh fuck yeah"! She releases you and slides into the seat next Joel. She rubbed her hands together thrilled that she didn't have to eat oatmeal again.
Picking up her fork, she was about to take a stab at her food but Joel nudged her arm. She looks at him and watches as his eyes and head motion in your direction. His face displayed somewhat disbelief, like she had done something wrong. Ellie didn't understand what he wanted from her, couldn't she enjoy herself for once? It clicked for her after a few awkward moments, "OH! Thank you."
You glare over your shoulder at her, nodding as you finish up plating your own food. After your gesture, she begins to gorge down on her food, manners be damned.
Through Ellie's muffled chewing, Joel wipes away at his mouth with a napkin. He pushes himself to his feet and grabs his plate too. He walks over to the sink, dumping his plate in. "You didn't have to do all this”, he says, pointing out your cooking.
You shook your head, your lips curling up, "No it's...I don't mind doing this for you two”. Besides, Ellie told me you tried making my finest last week.”
“Ok,” he starts, feeling put on the spot. He tried explaining, “That was…”
“...a terrible attempt,” Ellie remarks with a satisfied 'mph' as she bites into her food. “I’ll give you props for trying, but man it was burnt to a crisp.”
He widens his eyes at her, the girl’s focus back on the last bit of food on her plate. She couldn’t just butt in and then leave the older man stranded, left with you glancing at him, awaiting an explanation.
“She’s funny, ain't’ she?” Joel tried making a smooth recovery but his embarrassment was as clear as day.
You gave the man mercy, instead of toying with him further, “Next time you need a chef, Miller. Just ask,” you patt the man’s chest, slipping right by him to take a seat. Fuck, he loved when you touched him.
Ellie finishes up only wishing she could have some more. “Are you gonna come later,” she asked, already knowing what the answer would be. “Don’t think so. Got a lot to do today, probably not getting home until after dark.”
Slightly bummed, she hums, taking out her dismay by pushing her plate away. You just never had the time these days, it was disheartening for Joel and Ellie since you were about the only person in Jackson who made them feel welcomed; aside from Tommy and Maria.
“If it makes you feel better, I can walk you to school,” you suggested, granting you a smile from the girl. Every chance she got was a win. “Joel?”
The man looked in awe, “Sure I was…going to pick up something at the store anyway”. There was a level of uncertainty behind his voice, a lie perhaps? You didn’t bring it up just happy you’d get a bit more time with Joel.
They packed themselves to leave, you reminded Ellie to check her bag for all the essentials she needed. She assured you that she had everything she needed, brushing off your concern as ‘parental instincts’.
No matter, the three of you were out of the home and walking through the neighborhood. Each one of you trailing slowly, subconsciously using the snow on the ground as an excuse to keep extending the conversation; to slow down your pace.
Only thing was, this method only made splitting with you painful. Preventing the inevitable worked that way whether the two liked it or not, you’d be gone for sometime.
They made a stop on the sidewalk, deep into the town of Jackson where everything was booming with working people. It was time to split and say they're farewells.
“So, when can we see you again,” Joel asked.
You shrugged, “I can make time in a few days. Someone should be covering for me sometime this week.”
Joel nods, rubbing his enclosed hands to warn off the cold and the lonely feeling that'll come about in your absences. Still, he had something, that was better than nothing.
“We should watch a movie, you heard about Vansien Viper 3, everyone at school is talking about it. I really really wanna watch it.” Ellie pronounces.
Your eyes widen, “I’m down. Sounds like it could be good.”
“I’ve heard the first one is good but that the second one sucksss,” she leans her head back to exaggerate her point.
Joel scoffs, “I’m sure it ain’ that bad. I…haven’t ever finished watching the second one yet but that could work too. We don't have the actual cd, do we?”
Ellie establishes, “Don’t worry about that, I got us covered.”
What did she mean by that exactly, her smug tone made bells go off in Joel’s head, she was up to something. He raised one of his brows, seeing if he could discern her words. “And how exactly do you plan on doin' that," he asked.
The suspicion in Joel was evidently rising, she said more than should’ve been said. It was time to call it quits. Ellie quickly swept you into a hug, completely ignoring Joel’s question. She lets you go before backing away, the girl says goodbye to you, picking up her pace as Joel takes a few steps toward her. He tried to call for her but she dipped around the corner of a building, out of view and completely away from being confronted. Chasing after her would just be embarrassing, especially in front of you.
“Have some faith in her Joel,” you jokingly poked at him.
He turned to you shaking his head; a smile crawling up his face, “Don’t tell me you’re on her side.”
“Whatever she is up to, I’m sure it won’t be troublesome.”
For all you knew she could be bribing someone into giving her what she wanted, likely mimicking the stories Joel would tell her during his days in the Boston QZ. Joel wouldn’t want her following his old ways.
You let out a heavy sigh, “I should get going though, don’t wanna hold you up much longer.” Ironic you say that since Joel felt it worked the other way around. However, the man's presence was nearly enough to make you discontinue your duties. Joel nodded, upset you had to leave, he wasn’t going to let you go without sharing a kiss.
He pulls you in by your arms and locks his lips with yours, lingering on your taste knowing he wouldn’t be with you for some time. Standing there, some people were likely looking on momentarily before going about their day. Except for one person, Ellie.
She pretended to run off, giving the impression that she was off to school. She instead was peaking just around the corner she’d hid behind, curious if Joel had separated from you. The opposite was true, she was witnessing what your dynamic truly was for the first time. You two weren’t just close friends, as she initially believed, but rather lovers. It all made sense though, the small gestures, the look you both gave each other; she must’ve misinterpreted them, somehow.
She pulls herself back into full cover after seeing the both of you release one another. She let the two of you share your moment together, beginning to finally head to school. She couldn’t stop thinking about the possibilities of your relationship with Joel. Could it mean that you might move in with them, if so then how soon? Ok, maybe she was getting ahead of herself, still her thoughts bombarded her. You and Joel as her guardians, if there was something in the commune she could get used to, that was one of them.

You, Joel and Ellie decided to call it for the day. After driving for most of the day, switching between you and Joel as the driver, tiredness was starting to set in. In addition, dusk was just upon them, there was no need to go any further.
Joel pulled the car off the road, driving them through a plain field until they were in the thick of the woods.
"Should be a good spot," Joel exclaims, stopping them with a heavy sigh under his breath. Stepping out the vehicle, he stretches, the cracks in his joints ringing out from being cooped up for hours. He groans in retaliation.
Ellie exits as well, followed by you out the passenger side. She excitedly huffs, as she steps away from the vehicle. "God, about time we stopped." She looks around at the trees, spread far apart from each other only to see more emptiness ahead. To her, it looked like Joel picked a good spot.
You wipe at your eyes, yawning as you place your bag onto the grass. You knelt down and started unpacking your stuff, pulling out the essentials needed for your camp spot. Flicking the sleeping bag until it was flat on the ground you look over to Ellie who looked to be trailing off. “Hey…” you call out.
She turns around.
“No wandering off. Get your sleeping bag out, okay?”
She obliged. If Joel had ordered her to do so, she’d probably retort, but you were at least nice to her so she does so. The girl places her resting spot a couple of feet away from yours, she felt the spacing was enough; giving her some room to feel the comforting aura you provided
Joel, was placing all their other needs just off to the side of the truck. Their lantern and of course his coffee maker. He couldn’t live without it. Afterward, he comes over to you with his sleeping bag, stretching it out next to yours. You were still rummaging through your bag, that is until Joel’s hand graced the back of your neck.
“I’ll keep watch," he says, "Sleep.”
You turn to him, “You sure? I can watch for a bit.” The man had to be just as exhausted as you were, if not more.
He shook his head, “m’sure. Rest, sweetheart.”
Sweetheart, Ellie repeats in her head. Interesting. It came out of left field for her and was so unexpected that she furrowed her brows unconsciously.
Joel continues, now glancing over at Ellie, "And you too," his demeanor switching from softly to a demanding tone. She doesn't argue still caught off guard by the sight of intimacy, so she just nods, watching as the older man walks away from you.
Ellie brings herself back to you, staring, in an almost judgmental manner. She waited until you took notice of her eyes piercing through you.
Locking gazes with her, you quickly look over your shoulders and then back to her. You thought she might be looking at something off to your side, but nope, she was staring right at you; into your soul.
"Didn't know he was your type," she starts, patting her blanket to flatten it out.
You tilted your head, confused, "Excuse me?"
She doesn't respond, only leaving you with the same look on her face, the one that voiced all she wanted to say passively.
She tucked herself into her bag, snuggling up inside the fabric. Still with nothing left to say, she closes her eyes, feeling your glare still burning into hers. She got comfortable, leaving you with her comment was something she wanted to have you chew on.
--
Sometime later, Ellie awoke from her slumber, feeling light as she didn't sleep for very long. The woods around her were dark, enough to frighten her if she'd forgotten that she had two guardians nearby.
Her eyes came into focus, seeing the lantern Joel had set up far out of reach, enough space to where the light couldn't touch her. Including you, who looked to be preoccupied with Joel's coffee maker. It looked as so, the small trail of steam was the dead give away.
She watches as you stabilize the maker, the high chimes finally low enough to where it was barely audible. You stood up then and walked off until you were out of sight for her. Ellie was too lazy to turn and follow where you'd went. It was likely your turn to keep watch anyway, hence the need for coffee.
She expected to hear one pair of footsteps, Joel to be exact, coming over to rest finally for the night. He needed it, more than anyone in the trio. Driving most the day and then getting on watch out duty, the man needed a break.
Instead it was two pairs of footsteps, both you and Joel walking over to the lightly lit area. You were pulling the man over, untangling your hands with his until you both were sat comfortably near the light.
Ellie watched as you poured the man some coffee into his canteen before handing it to him. With both of your backs to Ellie and your voices close to a whisper, it was difficult for her to listen in on the conversation.
No matter, it was probably something awfully uninteresting, she thought. Closing her eyes, she wanted nothing to do with you two much that night. If you two were going to be an intimate with each other she didn't wanna see. After all with you being shoulder to shoulder with Joel, she was sure things were headed that way.
She shuts her eyes, trying to get in as much sleep as she could. This didn't happen, not for long, as she heard a unrecognizable chuckle.
Her eyes fluttered open, gaze back on the pair. Sure enough Joel's back was heaving up and down, with his thick voice breaking through his laugh. The guy could actually crack up. That was surprising to Ellie. She almost smiled hearing him, but had no time to, cause next thing she knew both you and Joel were kissing.
To say that was expected, was about on par. Ellie expected this, but she wouldn't want them getting away with it scot free.
She gagged, high enough to catch the pair's notice. They turn back toward her, both with different expressions.
Joel made his feelings apparent by his annoyed sigh, "Shouldn't you be sleeping"?
"I was," she retorts, "But you two ruined it, being all up on each other."
You could feel Joel's irritation rise as he continued looking at the girl, menacingly. Interrupting the moment only served to make him more frustrated. Not so much for you since you adapted well to her bratty persona. She was just fucking with you two.
You grip onto Joel's shoulder to pull his focus back on you. "Don't worry about her. I'm gonna go keep watch."
Joel hesitated, but ultimately felt he needed the rest. He hands the rifle over to you. Before you could stand the man grabs your arm, preventing you from getting up. "Wake me up if you need anything."
You nodded, leaning in and giving him a quick kiss.
Ellie intervened, "Eww, gross."
Joel scoffs while you get to your feet, "Shut up," he orders.
Ellie could've continued her tiresome quips, she in turn, giggles and pulls her covers over half her face. You turn on your heels and walk off, smiling, finding the girl's attitude to be quite funny. She could be quite the pain in the ass, but couldn't deny her sense of humor was contagious.
