Deer-(Fun)-Facts

A male Red Deer (Cervus elaphus) has a head-body-length of 6-7 ft plus 0,5 ft for the tail. It has a wide chest and a long, slim neck.

The back is straight, cause Red Deers live mostly on open field and flee, when in danger. (A doe [Capreolus capreolus] has a lower front, so it can flee through the bushes in the wood.)

They have a black stripe on their back. The back of their thighs are white and is called "mirror". (Idk if that's the right term in English, pls correct me!)

The rut begins in September (in the Alps and Scotland in October) and lasts six weeks.

During the rut the males get a mane at their bottom neck and the scent gland at the base of the tail swells. They lose up to 25% of their weight.

The females arch their back, when they're ready to mate. This back arching is a very strong signal for a male deer. It will also try to ride another male, if it does so.

The strongest male marks the rutting place with his scents. Therefor it uses his scent glands and rolls in its own urin.
