Now that I’ve been working through my trauma…

Now that I’ve been working through my trauma, I realize I never put myself first out of fear of being called “selfish”. I realize that I deserve to be loved and prioritized. I’ve realized that my mental health can’t always take the backseat. I’ve realized that hiding my pain on the account of others isn’t doing me any good. I’ve realized I was raised to hate anyone different in any way, and in doing so I was raised to hate myself. Now that I’ve been working through my trauma, I’ve started to heal.

OCD poem

I have to remember this is not a life sentence.

6 months behind bars with depression

A prisoner of the mind

When might I learn my lesson?

Can I be released early on “good behavior”

Can I find redemption in the form of a savior?

Why does it feel like my life is in danger

And why does my identity feel like a stranger?

I’m scared of my past, my present and future

I’ve been here before but the wounds they feel newer.

Untreated and open

Raw and poked and prodded

Again and again

I thought I was healed, redeemed and free

What is it that life wants from me?

To live out my purpose

Not stall and wait until I feel worth it

Leave the boxes unchecked

The goals unmet

Pick up the pieces of what I have left

Practice gratitude and reap joy when sorrows on the front step.

This is the end

This is the end

You are the same person

You’re not going crazy

Please trust that you know how to persevere your own safety

Please trust that the trials did not break you

Please trust that these feelings will not overtake you

I’m asking you

From me to me

Open the door and set yourself free

Things will look different they might for a while

But you are not guilty to be put on trial

And I know 6 months is half a year

And your tormented with questions of how you got here

Feeling victimized and that life is not fair

And waiting for something, anything to become clear
