(( Wait a second, none of those are Meowscarada (I'm pretty sure)...

I know it goes against the spirit of April Fool's Day to explain the joke immediately, but posting this without context feels kinda mean LOL

You can blame my partner for giving me the idea, "wouldn't it be funny if you launched your new blog tomorrow?" and I wish I could except I'm not ready enough to want to launch it yet.

"Wait," you ask. "You're making a new blog?!"

Maybe! It's an idea I've been holding onto for some time now and I'd really like to do it, but it wouldn't be an ask blog the same way this one is—more of a casual place for doodles and stories relating to all of the Pokémon characters I've come up with in recent times that don't fit into ask-meowscarada. It's an idea I've even talked about on this blog and many of the characters can be found on my main, but I've otherwise been quiet about it because of the uncertainty.

So when my partner mentioned their idea earlier, I wanted to do something simple and silly for Schrödinger's blog—without being a jerk about the teaser (like, am I actually planning something or is this just a prank?). And by the time I made the art it felt like a waste not to do anything with it, so here we are!

(( Here's a bit of trivia about Charade's type changes!

For those who don't know, Meowscarada's flower when in bloom bears resemblance to a pomegranate, which you can read more about on Bulbapedia. The meaning behind the flower in the base design is what inspired me to have her flower change based on her type!

As a Water-type, her flower is based on a white water lily. The bulb is replaced by a lily pad. The idea to change her cape (for all forms, but especially this one) was inspired by these Meowscarada variants by mykocalico!

As a Fairy-type, her flower is based on a pink shrub rose. While I can't find an exact name for the species, these roses are called "The Fairy" by some gardeners (it's also a plant in Stardew Valley). I think the design for the bulb was based on a generic flower bulb, but I can't remember (I'll update this post if I figure it out)!

As a Dark-type, her flower is based on the genus datura, one of several plants commonly known as moonflowers. Not only does this beautiful flower bloom at night, but their poisonous properties have led them to be commonly associated with witchcraft! The bulb is based on the datura's seed pod.

If Charade becomes a pure Grass-type through her ability, her appearance is the same as her default. (Don't fix what ain't broke, right?)

I've always loved the idea of weird type changes, like with Delta species and Tera types, so I'm glad I get to play around with it in a milder form! Then there are, of course, the Hidden Types of this blog... Maybe some day I'll come up with more hypothetical Protean type changes for moves like Thunder Punch or Triple Axel. ))

(( brief hiatus ))

i don't have an exact timeline but in about a week i'm gonna close the ask box and take a small break. biggest reason is because next week we have a friend traveling to stay with us, so it'll be a mini vacation for us (we're going up north to see the solar eclipse, too)!

the other reason is because i want to update blog assets, like the character profiles and emotes, and prioritizing those instead of asks is the only way i'll get it done LAUGHS

they're all pretty minor tweaks stemming from me changing my mind the more i draw these guys, so like riddle's shoulder fur and the length of charade's mask. i'm also completely changing the way i draw jack's "hair" because it gives me so much trouble so all of his assets will need to be at least partially remade OTL

so, if you wanted to send any asks before i close up, now's the time! note that i don't NEED asks, so this isn't an ask call, but i figured i'd give a heads up in case anyone was thinking about it. :D

in the meantime, here's a sketch for an ask i won't end up using but it's kind of a fun preview for my next post~

Charade: “Hmm... I like computer games! My friend Riddle lets me use his laptop to play games sometimes. I mostly like the kinds of games that let you build little houses and stuff. You can join my server and play with me if you want! I'll share my diamonds with you!”

Charade: “I also like card games and board games! ...I think I already told you that, though. I like magic tricks... but most Meowscarada probably do, huh? ...Este... I'm not used to talking about Charade. People usually ask me about being a Meowscarada, not about being Charade. I never thought the difference was that important...”

Blackjack: “Aha, well, the first time was actually by accident! W-when it started happening, I knew what was going on, but I didn’t do anything to stop it. It was a little embarrassing!”

Blackjack: “Th-the second time, w-well, um…”

Blackjack: “…It was a-after we left the forest. E-evolution stones are pretty rare, and I’d—I’d given up hope of it ever happening. But…”

Blackjack: “...When Tricky found that stone... L-let's just say it wouldn't have been the first time he saved my life.”

Charade: "¡Feliz cumpleaños!" (She waves her open palm over her empty fist, and from seemingly thin air, a bouquet of flowers appears. She hands it to you, grinning.) "I heard it was a special day! Hey, you don't happen to have cake for everyone...?"

Canela continues to laugh nervously, trying to laugh off the moment as her own thoughts race in her head. What do I do, what do I do now! A sharp, pulsing pain quickly enters her head, causing her to groan and hold her head. She tries to shake it off only to be met with a dark, foreboding voice that whispers into her mind.

Canela’ shallow breathing transitions into slower breaths, as she concentrates to drown out the voice that torments her mind. Her spatula fizzes and sparkles, changing in hues as she chants a familiar song repeatedly to herself. One. Chill. Two. Chill. Three. Chill. Four. Open your eyes and worry no more. 

After a couple minutes, she brings the spatula close to her mouth, giving it a gentle peck as a glimmer of light starts to glow faintly. Canela raises it high and takes a long, deep breath. The tip of the utensil glows brighter, lighting up the area like a lamp piercing through its dark corners.

From her mouth, a thin light follows the breath as she exhales. As it floats out, the breath glows as if strings of light trail out and around the spatula. As soon as the strip reaches the orb, it expands and swells. Soon after, the light flares out from the spatula, and wisps of light and magic swirl around Canela and Charade.

The braixen mumbles a command and the light fades from around the girls, and disappears from Canela's tool. She straightens up from her bow slowly, and stretches her arms over her head while a big smile spread on her face. She then continues to stuff her spatula back into her tail, before planting her paws on her hips and saying quite loudly,

"Damn, that felt GOOD!!!"
