Thanks to @rainbowd00dles absolutely amazing Kandrew drawing I suddenly felt the extrem need to draw these two after so many years again. Dang, I really do miss this and I’ve been looking for something to indulge in and hell… I forgot these two and I’m happy they appeared on my timeline, so that I can now draw and reread this series and have some joy in my life

Okay so I have been watching formula 1 recently but I started having Andreil feelings again so now I will just,,,, merge those two

AU where Neil is a driver and Andrew is his race engineer

(A race engineer is the guy who talks to you over your radio)

Your race engineer is really important, you gotta put a lot of trust into them. If they give you the wrong information it could make/break your race

So anyway, Neil joins McLaren (the orange team) and Andrew is his assigned race engineer

And it takes some.... learning to get along

“Kevin is on your back” “fuck off”

“Damage to the front wing” “idiot, where did you learn to drive?”

Needless to say its a mess and the team considers just switching Andrew to being someone elses race engineer

Until they bring up the idea with Neil and he is like “what no?”

Andrew’s mean comments and their bickering actually helps Neil relax a lot and Andrew knows this

For example there is a race and Neil drives off the track by accident and smashes the nose of the car it happens its whatever they can replace the nose and Neil can still drive

But he’s still panicked bc he drove off the track and crashed and oh fuck

And Andrew cuts in with “just so you know, Three drivers passed you already”

And now Neil has something else to focus on; bickering with Andrew

It may sound like they hate each others guts but in reality its a lot of mutual trust and respect

Neil trusts Andrew to make his race, not break it. He trusts Andrew to watch his back, to calm him down when things go wrong

They also really understand eachother

Andrew understands that when Neil tells him “leave me alone” he means it; Neil needs to be alone and focus on overtaking his opponent

Andrew knows Neil doesn’t want to be warned about his opponents closing the gap between them, he can see that himself so Andrew stays quiet and leaves him alone so he can focus on nothing else

Andrew understands what Neil is going to ask of him before he even asks it. Andrew knows what Neil worries about and knows what he has to look into to reassure him

All in all they are a great duo, they work so well together because they trust each other with their lives (for Neil that is a little more literal than for Andrew maybe)

One time Neil had such an awful crash he couldn’t continue, there was simply no fixing the car and he was beating himself up over it

But he comes to the pits (after a medical examination) and Andrew is there, headphones wrapped around his neck because he has no one to guide

And Neil stops in front of him

And Andrew looks at him and he says “I’m not going to throw you a pity party”

But he puts his hand on the back of his neck and pushed and it brings Neil back to the present

“I almost had it”

“And you’ll get it next time”

When Neil (finally) wins the world championship he says during a post race interview “I have Andrew to thank for it all. He got me through all of this and he wasn’t there I wouldn’t have won.”

Andrew replies on twitter and calls him a nascar driver. Neil temporarily blocks him

Okay literally this is just me having F1 brain rot and mixing it with AFTG but idk I have.... more ideas about F1 x AFTG but ah that will come later
