I don’t know shit about Jack because what happens post books (in any series) is up to the readers idgaf.

However, I love that you've specified that all of this is a trauma response, because it is. Obviously, this shitty behaviour isn't excused by the trauma, but it definitely explains it.

Andrew's misogyny is fairly strong, it's obvious he looks down on women immediately, and they have to work hard to prove to him they're equals, and he looks over Alison pretty much the entire series (she doesn't even get taken to Columbia because he views her as shallow and unnecessary). He uses Abby for what she can give him, but thinks nothing else of her. He hates Katelyn for everything she represents, and what she can do (take Aaron), but she's also a woman which is enough of a reason for him to think she's not worth the paper she studies on. For Andrew, I believe, this is entirely a trauma response. If we follow the string of people who have let him down and left him behind, the ones that hurt him emotionally, you end up with a list of women. In his view, and in his experience, women are unreliable, unstable, unhelpful, etc. It was a male police officer that found Aaron, and it was Luther that introduced them (obviously that's a whole different kettle of fish), and it was Nicky who took them in, and it was Wymack who gave him a chance.

I reiterate: his behaviour isn't excusable, he's an asshole and he isn't ashamed of that, but it is explainable. I do believe that over time, and with more exposure to reliable and strong women, and ongoing processing of his trauma with therapy from Betsy, his attitude would change all but subconsciously.

Nicky kissing Neil without consent will never sit right with me, and I don't understand how it can so often be glossed over. I'm still not convinced he feels guilty for it, as I believe his guilt the next day is more about drugging him against his will and it getting to a point where Neil got so injured. I don't think he feels guilty for taking advantage and assaulting Neil, and if he does, it's not guilty enough. I'm pretty sure Neil goes on to call Nicky harmless later in the series, or at least he's portrayed that way, but Nicky had no qualms, hesitations or issues with taking advantage of a man he knew was under the influence to the point of barely being able to stand. That's a dangerous man, and he needs to be seriously interrogated for it. For anyone that feels the need to point out Nicky was also under the influence, I want it on record that he was stable enough to take Neil's weight, communicate, and make the choice. I also don't quite see how this act is a trauma response, unless you want to argue that it's because he's been assaulted in the past in much the same way and doesn't know it's not okay? I don't think we have enough information to back that up though, but feel free to correct me.

Aaron's homophobia is an interesting one for me. I know he uses homophobic language, but the first instance that comes to mind is the one where he is intentionally attempting to get a rise out of Neil and is testing him post kidnapping. It's calculated, and it worked. I know there's never an excuse for homophobic language, but it does lead back to the trauma response and Aaron needing to find the quickest and easiest way to make sure Andrew was safe. I've reread the series a few times, and my observations are that Aaron's moments of homophobia are more discomfort around Nicky's aggressive flirting (which is fair, considering Nicky goes on to assault Neil: see above).

Aaron: Nicky is planning to rape Neil

Nicky: you're an asshole

Also Nicky: *Assualts Neil when intoxicated*

Aaron had rights. I still don't feel he hated the fact that it was MLM, I think he hated the fact that it was vulgar and rude.

On top of this, Neil does just...show up out of nowhere and shit hits the fan. I'd be a little pissed off if the anti-christ was sleeping with my brother too, I couldn't care less what gender they identify as, but if I think it's their fault the mafia is on my ass...'nuff said.

I have more to say about the other points too but my break is over and I need to be paid bc writing fanfiction doesn't lmao. Let me know if you wanna hear more ig.

Anyways i think we should explore Andrew’s misogyny and we should explore Nicky kissing Neil without the latter’s consent and we should explore Aaron and Jack’s homophobia and we should explore Neil’s selfishness and we should explore Kevin’s bitchiness and we, actually, should explore all these negative trauma responses instead of screaming and wailing and erasing them. Fruit.

Hello readers and writers alike, some of you may know me as the author of The Minyard-Josten Rivalry on AO3, and some of you may just follow me because I reblog AFTG content (infrequently).

I am currently doing an All For The Game: The Foxhole Court rewrite...in Andrew's point of view.

It has reignited my love for the Foxes and is encouraging me to work on all my projects (old and new and yes this means the rivalry fic).
