Eloise really suffers from not-like-other-girls-itis which is frustrating.
I watched the new episodes of Bridgerton, and while I enjoyed them a lot more than I expected to (PENELOPE!!!), I was really, really annoyed with the scene where Eloise suffers through other ladies at a ball listing embroidery stitches.
(@marzipanandminutiae - you did a post on that stupid Edith-Ann fake sampler, didn't you? I went looking for it but couldn't find it. If you can get me the link, I'll add to the blog post!)
Yeah, it definitely reads like a perfectly ordinary level of enjoyment of a hobby. The point about it being actually mentioned, thus placing it in stark contrast with other Austen women, is a great one, I hadn't thought about that!
Random thought of the day:
I think it's not that Catherine Morland is obsessed with novels.
It's simply that she has never known any evil in her own life so far, so the only evil she knows is that portrayed in novels. It's not an obsession with novels that leads to her (not entirely wrong) conclusion, but a total lack of proper reference.
