abled people love to do this thing where they simply expect you to do the heavy lifting of not applying their ableist comments to yourself. “I think people who order doordash all the time are lazy” “hey im disabled and i need to do this” “well OBVIOUSLY i just mean the people who don’t /really/ need to!”
They want to believe they would never knowingly be cruel to a disabled person (and by that they mean those they think are sufficiently disabled), but they are all of the time. and if they actually examined that then they would need to take responsibility for it, so they don’t.

being disabled is so fun because sometimes you can just be going about your day like normal and with zero warning your body will be like you have to lay down Right Now or you will pass out

this is APPARENTLY a HOT FUCKING TAKE but
i would rather someone live out the rest of their life dependent on or addicted to a pain medication that helps with their pain, than suffer in pain that could be helped for the rest of their life just so self-righteous dicks can say "thank god they're not an addict"

There'll be a post like, "ableism is bad" and all the comments will be "yeah! Ableists are all sociopaths and narcissists!" "Ableists all live in their moms basements and don't contribute anything to society!"

I'm moderately immunocompromised due to the medications I'm on that suppress my immune system
I'm also...
a university student. I'm in your classes
a community member. I'm in your public spaces
someone who does my own groceries. I'm in your grocery stores
someone who takes medications. I'm in your pharmacies
someone who likes to eat out with friends. I'm in your restaurants
someone who shops. I'm in your malls and shopping centers
someone who appreciates local artists. I'm at your markets
I am not elderly. you cannot look at me and see that I am high risk. You can't know to avoid me if you leave the house with covid or the flu but covid or the flu could kill me
new covid guidelines are suggesting that you can leave isolation while you're sick but that you should avoid high risk people. you cannot do this, we are everywhere. we look like elderly people on ventilators but we also look like fit young adults and energetic children. you cannot spot someone high risk. you cannot avoid us. if you're sick stay home

If you want to call yourself "madpunk", "cripplepunk", "neuropunk", etc, your activism better not stop at the things you find "bad". People with no empathy. People with personality disorders. People who need their aids in daily life. People who have extreme fluctuating emotions. People with paraphilias. People with dissociative disorders. Psychotic people. People who have different modes of eating, excreting, having sex, etc. Homeless people. People who wear diapers. People who have violent urges/thoughts. People who you think are "dangerous". People who use drugs. People who need medication to survive and live. People with physical deformities. People who have delusions. People who struggle with feeding themselves, cleaning, working, etc.
If you think any of these factors make someone "abusive", you are ableist. Abusers are abusive. None of the above things make someone an abuser.
Madpunk and cripplepunk aren't just "adhd and autism punk". Or "mobility aid user punk". Keep that in mind.

Stop being the fucking language police. I am in pain and I will bitch about it however the fuck I want, even (and ESPECIALLY) if it's in a way that makes you uncomfortable.

Remember that every time you use your mobility aid in public, there is very likely another person there who is too apprehensive to use their own mobility aid and feels braver from seeing you use yours.

if youre considering using a mobility aid, youre probably thinking about getting a cane. even if it seems like youre issues arent bad enough, you should probably still consider other mobility aids. please look into the pros and cons of several different mobility aids, especially in conjunction with your specific disability/diagnosis/needs.
i got a cane at first because i thought my issues were "mild" and therefore i needed a "mild" mobility aid. but canes are moreso for stability than support. i damaged my wrist and worsened my scoliosis by deciding to use a cane without an educated opinion.
i now use forearm crutches primarily, a rollator for longer outings, and a wheelchair for worse days and longer events. dont make the same mistake as 16-year-old me. dont choose your mobility aid based on palatability, consider your needs and address your internalized ableism if need be.

Quick visual guide on what to include when writing alt text (Taken from this article by Veroniiiica):
Tumblr media
[Image description: An infographic titled “Writing Alt Text” featuring a photo of a capybara. Parts of alt text are divided by color, including identify who, expression, description, colour, and interesting features. The finished description reads “A capybara looking relaxed in a hot spa. Yellow yuzu fruits are floating in the water, and one is balanced on the top of the capybara’s head.” End of image description.]
If you use a screen reader and there's anything else you like image descriptions to have that isn't detailed here, feel free to add! I will rb additions :) I also implore you to check out the original article for more info!
