Takigawa Eiji 3/03 blog - “My start from zero”

I’ve decided to translate this very confrontational but inspiring blog by Japanese actor Takigawa Eiji, who got heavily injured during the filming of the Yowamushi Pedal drama series. It’s been a while and he’s posted some updates before but I think this one has been the most honest one so far. It’s very brave of him to post this, going back to the moment of the accident, the surgery, the unreality of it, and the long process of rehabilitation. You can read the original blog here; he even included some photos of him in the hospital.  I did my best to translate it into casual language but some nuance is always lost. 皆様ご無沙汰しております。 I haven’t written to everyone in awhile. テーマ：ブログ  Theme: Blog

事故から3ヵ月弱ブログの更新ができず、 For a little less than 3 months after the accident I wasn’t able to update my blog,

ご心配おかけして本当に申し訳ありませんでした。 I’m deeply sorry for the worry it caused.

その間、自分と闘いながら、少しづつ容態も落ち着いてきています。 During that time, while battling with myself, little by little my condition started stabilizing.

皆様からの沢山のお手紙やコメント、本当に力になっています。 The many letters and comments from everyone, really gave me strength.

ありがとうございます。 Thank you very much.

脊髄損傷という診断を受け、正直重症だとは思います。 Being diagnosed with a spinal cord injury, to be honest, is serious.

でも、今は、前を向いて　自分を信じて リハビリに励んでいる日々です。 But, now, I’m facing forward, believing in myself and striving for rehabilitation every day.

僕と同じような、病気や怪我で自分自身と闘っている方々も、 Like me, people who are also fighting their own illness and injuries,

沢山いらっしゃると思います。 I think there’s many of us.

そんな皆様とともに、明るい未来を信じて 歩んでいけたらと思っています。 Alongside such people, if we trust in a brighter future, I believe we can walk onwards.

とにかく、今僕は、一日一日、一瞬一瞬を大事に At any rate, now I’m treasuring each and every day, each and every moment,

前だけを見て only looking forward,

精一��生きています。 and living with all I’ve got.

We reached the final show of Stageplay Yowamushi Pedal. Thank you very much to the many people who came.

Jin-kun who plays Kuroda, who lets me massage him; Tominaga-kun who plays Ashikiba, who I’m the same age as; the riding of these 2 always makes my heart pound.

And, I received a Komari sacoche (t/n- the supply bag they give to the riders at the feed zone) from the original author, Wataru Sensei. From now on, I’ll do my best together with Komari!
