đĄ Warding đĄ
Disclaimer:
This is all based on my research, path, opinion & experiences!
Intro:
I really was holding out on doing this post because itâs such a big, important topic to cover and I really donât want to mess it up or get anything wrong. This post needs to be done though, people have asked if I have such a post and an anon suggested it. So finally, here it is.Â
-
What Is Warding?
Warding is a type of magick, it is the act of creating an energetic barrier around you, your home, an object, ect. They can be temporary or permanent, although typically they are cast with the long term in mind. They can banish or turn away whatever you choose. Warding is an excellent skill to have because it can keep you, and even others safe and with practice you can do it anytime with just about whatever you have on hand.Â
When Should I Ward?
Whenever you want an energetic barrier around you, most people consistently ward their home, themselves or their place of practice. Some people even ward their space every time they prepare for a spell. It should be done consistently in any area you want protected, but exactly where and how often is entirely up to the practitioner.Â
What Should I Do Before?
Cleanse, a ward is a barrier of energy and in the same way that it keeps things out it also keeps things in. You donât want to trap anything inside of it. Cleanse yourself before you ward yourself. Cleanse your space before you ward your space!Â
Tips Before You Ward-
Phrasing
Keep the phrasing in mind! You donât want to keep anything out that you want in, or let something in that you want out. If youâre chanting or using sigils ect keep in mind exactly what you want to keep out both in your methods and in your mind.
Covering everything
Make sure to cover everything, a ward is useless if thereâs a weakness in it or if the ceiling & floor arenât probably covered. Be super thorough!Â
Layering Your Wards
One small little wimpy barrier? Ha, the spirits say as they scramble into your home to wreak havoc! You need to layer your wards, donât just use one method one time, thereâs no such thing as too much warding.Â
What Are Some Ways That I Can Ward?
Now weâll get right down to the methods you can use to ward yourself and your space! Remember that warding is important and needs to be effective, donât try anything that you donât have experience with for warding. At first, focus on the stuff you know. If you like sigils, use sigils at first and slowly work your way into using other more complex methods or methods that solely rely on your abilities.
Circle Casting
You cast a circle by summoning the four elements to protect & energize what is in the circle.Â
- Hereâs my post about circles & how to cast themÂ
Chanting/Speaking
Come up with a protective chant you can use to ward your space. This chant could be someone elseâs or your own as long as you feel itâs effective. Speak it aloud and visualize a layer of energy protecting your space.Â
Incense
Burn a protective incense in the space youâd like to ward and visualize a barrier protecting your space.
Athame
Draw out the line of your ward with your athame, visualize the wall appearing, covering everything with a thick layer of energy.Â
Spraying
Spray a mix of blessed/magickal waters and or herbs with protective properties in the space you want to ward.Â
Sigils
Create a sigil using your favorite method with the intent to âwardâ or âprotect/protection.â Then charge and activate it as a layer of protection!
Hereâs my post on sigils if youâre interested in that:
- Sigil Post
Jar Spells
You could mix up a jar spell for warding, set it in your house and forget it as a layer of warding.Â
- My protective jar spell post
Anointment
Anoint the doorways of your space, you could also anoint the ceiling, floor, walls, corners, honestly go for it.Â
Salt
Sprinkle salt all around the edge of your home or space. Make sure to sprinkle salt on the INSIDE of your harm as salt can harm plants & wildlife if used outside. If youâd like to make a barrier on the outside of your home, you can use dried & crushed eggshells in place of salt. - Post on how to make eggshell powder here -Â
Hag stones
Hag stones are stones with holes in them that have been corroded into the stone because of rushing water. It is believed rushing water is protective & cleansing so if you wear a stone that sat in it long enough to have parts corroded away, that the stone will maintain and keep those properties with it. Itâs a great way to personally ward yourself, and an excuse to go out in nature.Â
They look like this!Â
Energy Manipulation
If youâve got a knack for manipulating energy, you can create a barrier through work and visualization that surrounds yourself or your space. This isnât recommended for beginners though!

Both of these are great if youâre looking for specific spells, types of magick, correspondences, sigils, ect!

Personal Wards
Also remember not just to ward your space but yourself, if you layer your home with wards, what happens when you leave? Exactly. Keep yourself safe too! Circle casting & hag stones are great methods I mentioned above that are good for personal warding.Â
Can I Ward Specific Things And Not Others?
Absolutely! I mentioned this in the phrasing section of this post, keep in mind exactly what you want to keep out when youâre warding. I like words like ânegativeâ or âharmfulâ or âwith ill intentâ because they donât necessarily keep out the Fae or positive/neutral spirits but it does keep out anything that wants to harm you in general. Just think about it ahead of time, find wording or a phrase you like and keep that in mind as you ward.Â
What If I Live With People?
If youâre out of the broom closet, explain to your family/roommates what youâre doing and why youâre doing it and make sure theyâre cool with it and are aware of whatâs going on. If youâre not out of the broom closet, you may have to resort to only warding yourself/your room, & thatâs okay!Â
I hope this helps someone or teaches them something new!
Enjoy!
Have a lovely day đ

Witch Tip: Reminders
đˇ This probably sounds obvious, but set reminders on your phone/in your calendar!
đˇ Itâs a really good way to track the progress of your spell work, especially when youâre someone like me whoâs entirely way too forgetful.Â
đˇ If you started a spell on a new moon which is meant to come into full effect by the full moon, set reminders/alarms in your phone to check in with the progress of the spell youâre working, and to remember to add any extra work like meditation, prayers, or ingredients that need to be added as time passes!Â
đˇ Itâs a good tool to use to check end results (ex. Hey did that spell I cast on my friend for relationship help taken effect yet? Itâs been a week, I better check in with them!), or similar check ins with divination like tarot or pendulum.Â
đˇ One of my biggest issues is forgetting important dates/phases, and setting reminders and alarms has really helped!Â

Witch tips: Eternally Cleansing
Hey witches! Youâve to keep your spaces clean - both physically and energetically.  This is for magical reasons (you donât want errant energy lying around that interferes with your spells) and well, clean spaces help with allergies, keep you from catching viruses, etc.  Plus, who doesnât like living in a clean house?
I thought Iâd share with you a way to incorporate magic into how you physically clean your house. This can be done while you clean or immediately afterward, dealers choice. Some parts work better during the physical cleaning process (as you will see).
This involves invoking the four elements to help the cleansing process.  I tend to go Air - > Fire -> Water - > Earth myself, but you could really do this in any order that suits you. Or do only one of these at a given time. This can be performed individually or with a small coven.
Air Cleansing - (Material: broom, practical or ceremonial)
Walk around the house starting at your most used door and walk widdershins sweeping and saying âSweep, sweep, I sweep this space - by the power of Air, I cleanse this space.â Each room should be done individually and in a room where there is a door to âoutsideâ end by sweeping the bad âout.â
Fire Cleansing - (Material: Red or Orange Candle)
Same as above, do each room individually. Start in the same point as you did with the sweeping above or choose a spot that works best for you. Travel widdershins with you candle making sure to cast light into the corners, closets, and places that donât get good sunlight especially. Say âLight, light, I light this space - by the power of Fire I cleanse this space.â
Water Cleansing - (Material: Salted Water or Cleansing Spray)
Walk widdershins through each room sprinkling salted water or a cleansing spray. Alternatively, you can do this while physically washing or cleansing more vigorously.  Say âWash, wash, I wash this space - by the power of Water I cleanse this Space.â
Earth Cleansing - (Material: Crystal wand or Piece of Wood, Good Pointing Object)
I always finish with a grounding - no matter what order I choose, I do Earth last. I personally use a selenite wand for this process but have also done it at other peopleâs homes with a stick of birch wood and even once with a dried rose stem.  Whatever pointing object you use, keep it earth-based to connect with the spell.  Walk around the house widdershins making the Earth pentacle symbol in the air with your wand. (Alternatively, you could just make a pentacle but the Earth pentacle seems to help with this.) Say âEarth, earth, I walk this place, by the powers of Gravity I ground this spaceâ.
Forewarning, this last part is heavy. If you have a large house, you might feel like you weigh 10,000 pounds by the time youâre done doing the Earth grounding. Itâs okay. Just keep going. You can get through it. At the end, just put the wand down and release the excess energy back into the ground.  The first time you do it, it might feel like âtoo muchâ partway through.
Bonus Things But Not Necessary
This is really meant to be a jumping-off point - this is the basis for the cleansing ritual that my coven does, but we perform it differently to cater to each witchâs individual space.  Dora is more traditionally elemental so we erect altars to each Element and use the ritual as-is - Gray is into dragons and the fair folk so we ask for their participation.
My coven does this ritual as a group Thing every time that one of us moves into a new place - its a great way to clear out stagnant energy. Itâs a good basis for starting protection work as well, Cleanse well and then do a protection spell like a Fiery Wall.  Alternatively, you could âsealâ your house with stones like black tourmaline or selenite or with other energetic wards.
Since doing this spell clears out a lot of energy, the space may feel a bit empty for a bit - make a point of filling it up with light and laughter. Buy yourself some pretty flowers, play your favorite music loud and dance, do something positive to remind your space of the type of energy that you want it to embody.
Do you like my work? Please consider Buying me a Ko-fi.

Death Witch Rituals - My Basic List
Death witchcraft can be used and interpreted in many different ways. But what one does with it is often very personal, different, and unique. Here are some rituals, spells, etc. that I have done or am planning on doing that fit into my definition of Death Witchcraft.
Scrying with spirits - you may have seen my post about this a while ago, which I recommend reading if youâre interested. I touch lightly on human spirits their, but I do enjoy a session with human spirits, or even animals. I definitely ritualize scrying, though I am not sure why. It feels special to me, and always hasâŚ
Divining the future with the dead - similar to the last ritual, I divine with the dead to try and get answers, predictions, etc from them. I have a post on that too, which I wrote more recently. I really like to do this, as it gives both the spirit involved and me a hand in helping others, or even ourselves.
Grief spells and rituals - grief can be heart wrenching, lead to depression, and extreme bouts of loneliness. With consent, I sometimes do these rituals and spells to help loved ones feel more at peace. I wrote a funeral bouquet post about what I would send if asked to, and why each flower was a potent piece of healing. This is a minor form of these types of rituals.
Passing spells and rituals - helping spirits pass on, or get âunstuckâ when reliving their past is a very rewarding thing. I like these because it prevents pain and suffering from life crossing over into death. Another aspect of the funeral bouquet post is for this, too.
Curses - death does not always mean bringing mortality to a living, breathing thing. I use it to smother success, disenchant happiness, etc. It seems cold, but I rarely use this in curses anymore. I have no need, at least not recently. My past curses have served me well, and my emotional response to evil people has matured.
Rebirth spells and rituals - I know the power of death, and of the rebirthing process that follows it. I am going to conduct a formal ritual regarding this and my recent recovery from depression. I want a moment of reflection where I can release the past entirely.
Communing with the dead - meditation can lead to eye opening encounters with the spirits of those who died before you. They have voices, and they will speak, even if you will not listen.
Cleaning up, respecting the dead - burying bones or carcasses of animals is one way to respect and honour the dead (if they want you to, that is). So is picking up litter near a cemetery, or helping the grief stricken friends and family of someone you know who has passed. Learn what to say, and what not to, and read up on death, and its overwhelming history.

Spirits & Working with them
We are souls temporarily in bodies on earth. Our natural home is in the spirit world, often known as the âOther sideâ. Whether you realize it or not, We are constantly surrounded by spirits. They may be in human bodies (like ourselves) or âin spiritâ form. Just like we have family and friends in this life, We have had other lives with relationships we have deeply cherished and nurtured. Certainly, there are other spirits we have known and loved in other lives that are âin spiritâ here on earth. A spirit is nothing more or less than another person, They just donât have a body. They really arenât as mysterious or strange as theyâre made out to be, I feel like spirits are really misunderstood.Â
PROTECTION
Ok guys, when i say theyâre misunderstood i donât mean every spirit out there is fluffy and sweet. Protection is absolutely the MOST IMPORTANT PART of working with spirits. Like i said, theyâre nothing more or less than another person. They are beings, they have their own personalities. Just like with people, Donât give out your information or be too trusting. Spirits can lie, Spirits can have malicious motives, Spirits can be tricksters and just yank your chain (ever gotten on a Ouija and seen ZOZO or MAMA or freaked bc it was doing something you thought was demonic or enabling the spirit to escape the board? Yeah, you were part of a big joke buddy. Spirits cannot escape the board, they arenât in the board in the first place.).Â
Ways to protect yourself:
-Wards, Physically or in the Astral Plane, where spirits typically reside or come from. Astral Projection is not something for beginners to attempt, You really need to know how to deal with and protect yourself from the beings in that plane.Â
-Protection spells, amulets or talismans
-Sigils
-I have a special tea i brew for myself before spirit workings that is my blend of herbs to protect me and get me in the mindset for spirit work. I also suggest cleansing your energy, Maybe a cleansing bath and a smudge session and some meditation, Clean your energy so no spirits leech off of your negative energy or sense any mental weakness to attack.
-If you are scared, donât do it. Spirits can smell it from 30 miles away, and will use it against you. Be mentally prepared, protect yourself. (I want to add i have never had any run ins with malicious spirits, But they DO EXIST. Most spirits are kind in my experience.)
COMMUNICATION
You are probably not gonna just be able to sit down and speak to spirits. (They can hear you, But thats listening and not communication.) I suggest picking up a form of divination, like pendulum, dice, or a ouija board to start. Do not Ouija alone if it is your first time and you are unexperienced. You will receive fragmented bits of conversation likely, and this is normal. Start out with simple yes and no questions, and eventually you will work your way up to normal conversation with spirits. It takes time to grow these skills. When i first started i was pulling out my Ouija nonstop!!! Spirits mostly communicate in tattered words, pictures and emotions. Its good to practice energy work, Sensing the kind of energy spirits are bringing in. This way youâll eventually be able to tell the difference between a malicious spirit and a kind spirit just by the energy its giving off. PRACTICE, Keep growing your skills.Â
INTERACTING WITH SPIRITS
Communicating and meeting with local spirits is the easiest way to start off.Â
A lot of people start off with nature spirits, they are much more patient than other beings. I suggest sitting in a forest or by a creek and seeing who wants to talk, but sitting on your back porch with your plants can be equally as successful. I didnât start with nature spirits specifically, but they likely were the ones who came thru. Very patient and kind, even noting that my dog (who was wanting to come outside with me, but my patios very small and sheâs very big) was being loud.Â
I DONâT KNOW WHAT TO TALK ABOUT!!
Donât worry, Here are all the ideas. Its nice to let the spirit share experiences with you, Keep in mind spirits have been around for a very long time, some since the beginning of time, and have experienced many things. Iâve heard some very cool stories.
Let me hear a love story
Show me a song from your people
Tell me something youâve done that you are proud of
Tell me a little about your culture
Tell me your story
Do you have any jokes you can share with me?
What is your advice for me?
Who is the your peoples leader?(this can help you distinguish a timeline on when they were alive/where as well)
Is there anything about Human Culture you have questions about?
Do you speak more than one language?
SPIRIT WORKÂ TIPS
Donât give out the name that is the most important to you.
The âcolorâ of an energy doesnât mean it will align with your own color meanings.
Donât share how youâre protecting yourself, It is not wise and can help malicious spirits find points of weakness.
Donât expect to hear voices or see spirits clear as day. The stories told on tumblr may be embellished to add understanding, or might receive messages in a less clear way than presented
If you ever feel threatened by a spirits energy or sense a negative spirit, Tell it to leave loudly and clearly. Do not show fear, Do not back down. Repeat and increase your intensity if it doesnât stop.
This post is all based on my opinion of spirit work, and is not fact. I love spirits and spirit work so much, and i hope you do as well. Enjoy the spirits, Make some new friends! Love & Light, @lapiscat

Basic Understanding Of Conjuring Spiritual Entities
Disclaimer:
This is simply a basic view on the understanding of summoning forth spiritual entities, and is by no means an extensive overview of the practice, and I am also not responsible for how you choose to use this information, or what comes forth from itâs execution.
In order to do this practice effectively you are going to need to understand, or have a method of
Cleansing
Centering
Grounding
Banishing
Protection through shielding
Binding
Divination, or spiritual communication
SIgil
Introduction:
Conjuring spiritual entities is a process in which you summon forth an entity to your location in order to communicate, and interact with them. In order to conjure an entity to you all one must do is call for them. this can be done in many different ways but will usually include some form of connecting with them, so that you can ask them to appear to you. There are many different ins-and-outs to this practice, and practitioners do it differently based upon their tradition, and understandings, but in this post I will be going over my understanding of the practice, and how one would go about allowing these entities to appear to them in a basic effective, and safe manner.
Protection, and banishment:
All entities that you run into may not be friendly, so before you attempt to bring forth an entity you should be ready to protect yourself. You should take some time to learn some protection, and banishing methods so that you will be able to defend yourself if needed. You should also try not to bring forth anything you will not be able to banish, or protect against, so that you do not put yourself in any position where you will not be able to be safe. Practices that I would recommend that you should learn before attempting this practice are things such as the lesser banishing ritual of the pentagram, and the practice of casting a circle, or some other variant of these two things.

đŽ House Rules đŽ
With the Spirit Companionship 101 post being rather long, I figured this topic could get its own post!
House Rules.
This is important for any Spiritworker regardless of whether or not theyâre spirit companions. Itâs the same with any of you all going to an Airbnb and following your hosts rules. Or even just going to a friendâs house. Theyâre going to be rules.
When it comes to your house, you need to lay out rules for the spirits that will be coming there. This includes your companions, of course. But this goes for any spirits that could come into your home, if youâre open to it. Like I said, I have that one friend who accidentally ended up running a daycare of sorts and she has a set up with the parents who leave their kids there before taking to do their business. Those spirits will need to follow your rules. And if they break any of those rules, you need to be firm in giving them the Snap.
Homework: Make a list of the house rules that you would like any spirits you work or interact with to follow. There doesnât have to be many in one post, but having an idea of what you would like that would make you comfortable letting spirits in your house is important!

Death Witch Altar Ideas
As with all my posts, feel free to add to or ignore any of the ideas listed.
^ one of my death witch altars
Bones - animal bones can be scavenged or bought online at certain shops. Make sure to check the laws regarding animal bones in your region/country. Usually, bones placed on an altar are used for spirit communication or dedication to a deity.
Representations of death - these include fake bones, fake blood, skeleton statues, artistic depictions, cake coffins, etc. If it helps get you in the mood for death work, itâll improve the energy of the altar.
Family heirlooms - if you do ancestor work, these will help you honor and connect to said ancestors. This can also include pictures of lost loved ones.
Items that used to belong to lost pets - should you want to keep in contact with their spirit.
Toys or dedication to child spirits - should you work with them. This is for both communication and respect.
Fake headstone or coffin - for the souls who were never buried, or have effaced graves. Again, not needed, just an idea for those who work with them.
Preserved plants or insects - these work in same way that bones do.
Furs - animal furs make great altar cloths or bone substitutes. Taxidermy can also make a fantastic altar decoration.
Graveyard dirt - if you like to work with the spirits you connect through the dirt. I keep me graveyard dirt somewhere else because I canât handle hearing souls talk to it all the time, but itâs up to the user.
Offering bowl - good for spirits, ancestors, and deities you may work with. List of offerings for the dead here.
Fireproof bowl - Iâm surprised how many people donât reference this, even in other crafts. A fireproof bowl acts as an incense holder, scrying bowl, and a mixer for magical powders.
A spoon - if you make a lot of powders or often handle graveyard dirt. There are some skull-shaped and otherwise decorated spoons sold online if you want to get fancy.
Incense holder - should you ever burn incense for offerings, cleansing, or enhancing spiritual consciousness.
Candles - black, grey or white are your best bet for death work. You donât need these, but theyâre great for mood setting.
Crystals - a list of crystals for death witches can be found here by @lunaesteria. I personally recommend bloodstone, or a clear quartz to prevent mixing the energy of the altar from other energies in the room.Â
Divination tools - if that aids you in spirit communication or shadow work.
A wand - if you have one. Great wand material for death witches includes yew, cypress, birch, oak, and poplar. Some people use crystal wands or bone wands as well.
A mirror - or black mirror, for scrying.
Water - to feed the spirits of the dead, or even for safety if youâre using fire.
Mortar and pestle - for grinding herbs in powders and smoke blends.Â
Statue of death deity/spirit - should you have or want one.
Something you use for grounding - I use a bone, but you can also use a crystal, necklace, pendulum, whathaveya. Oftentimes, death work requires spirit communication and trance-like states, so the grounding item can help you return to your usual state.
A jar of calming herbs - if you have many different spirits or jars of graveyard dirt on your altar, it may be good to have a calming herb or spell jar to keep the spirits feeling content. I use a jar of rose petals; this is especially useful for those susceptible to spirit communication.
Smoke blends or flying ointments - should you use them often.
Reference books or materials - including but not limited to family trees, ancestor recordings, spell books, death and dying guidebooks, and folklore.
Protection candle or sigil - for protecting the altar, and any spirit that dwells there.
Anything hand crafted - including containers, painted jars, etc. These can be devoted to spirits, and make your altar feel more special and powerful.
Got more ideas? Feel free to add on! Hope this helps!!! Thanks to the anon who requested this °+(*´âď˝)ď˝Â°+°
