#(can we get a plantext for the background text? it was hard to read three paragraphs all faded out like that-)#“astro you weren't supposed to read that”
lolyeah, you weren't supposed to read it because I still don't think I completely hit on what I intended to communicate (and I repeated a line, welp)! Still, here's the text:
Papyrus...
Papyrus sees the human, coated in dust and showing no spark of identity beyond a mechanical compulsion, and he knows the thing he is facing has power beyond his own - he remembers your lessons, and he’s smart. He knows he’s facing what amounts to a god, and so he has no chance in an out-and-out match of strength.
So instead he attacks their determination. He cannot defeat them by strength, so he offers mercy, and friendship, and addresses them not as a god but as an equal - holding them to the morality of this world - “We both know what you’re doing is wrong, and we both know you have the choice to do better, you just have to take it.” Like the parable of the wind and the sun: not outright force, but making the current path forward intolerable, and offering a reward if they change their ways.
Killing Papyrus is the point of resolve for the human - the success of their determination, if you synonymize it a bit - and puts them on the path to face the true heroine, Undyne.
Undyne...
Undyne steps in to save a defenseless child from the human’s weapon, and she loses her life in the process. She can feel the hatred and intent of the human’s blow. She knows then what she’s facing is beyond her power, and any hope to defeat you might be a fool’s errand. She doesn’t care. With her dying breath, her undying vengeance and justice and protection and her own
determination bring her back as a human would. And the real battle begins.
It is a battle between good and evil - between senseless genocide and the woman who tries with all her will to stop it, even if it means sacrificing herself so Alphys may evacuate the
rest of the monsters - yes, Alphys plays an important role, and her fate is entwined with Undyne’s.
Undyne is frustrating and exhilarating - become as human as a monster can be while still maintaining her kindness and fellow-feelings. Beyond monsters, beyond humans, but for all life threatened by this entity.
And she might not know it yet - might never know it - but she’s right.
Which brings us to Sans.
Sans...
Of everyone, Sans knows the most of what he’s facing - or at least, he lets on he knows the most. He knows the world he lives in is a plaything for a higher power, and he drops the facade of believing any differently. He makes the same decision Papyrus does but without the kindness - attacking their determination.
And he’s cunning. He knows his weaknesses, and he turns them into strengths by bringing you down to his level. He strikes first, he dodges, he hits with 1HP of damage - but relentlessly. ATK and DEF mean nothing. Armor and weapons mean nothing. LV means - LV is made into a weakness, not a strength, as he forces you to feel the weight of your sins on your neck. He fights dirty, refusing to let up, trying to frustrate you so the only way to win is to think outside the box - to go back and take it all away. And even when he loses, he makes your victory hollow and ignominious and short-lived. His entire battle is a mockery of the thing he’s facing.
He plays dirty - starting with his most powerful attack, dodging, betray-killing, poisoning us, taunting us at every loss, attacking through every means possible.
Oxford English Dictionary:
game, n.
16. a. Collectively: wild animals or birds of the kind that are or have traditionally been pursued, caught, or killed for sport, or that are or have been the quarry of hunters.
17. a. That which is being pursued in the course of hunting or the chase; a quarry.
More conversation between =) and the ukaGaster! Consider this a thematic follow-up to my Bluebeard comic. (And if =) in that one may be called 'Bluebeard', perhaps here =) may be called 'Zaroff')
This comic was conceived of around the same time as the Bluebeard one, but I had trouble with the script. It comes from my thoughts on the use of irony in Handplates in how Gaster regards both Sans and Papyrus versus how the players react to them during the Murder Run, and what Gaster might think about it if he knew. Would he be proud of them? And then I remembered, lol, Gaster is never happy!
I have no idea if the second half is in any way accurate to hunting patterns, but it came from an anecdote a hunter told me about a bobcat and how differently LPers refer to Sans while in battle vs. out.
To see you off, here's a song about a fox hunt. You can make of it what you will.

Quo asked for outfits inspiration for the twins so I started spamming the server with ridiculous haute couture pieces. Night’s is based on this and this from Ulyana Sergeenko’s Fall/Winter 2019-2020 collection (see more information here) and Dream’s is based on this outfit from Valentino’s Fall/Winter 2020-2021 collection (see more information here).
Quo’s (@the-kk-crow) original doodle:
I just did a trace/re-draw because I wanted to see it in color! ^_^;; I like how the blossoms and some of the coloring came out, but not fond of the facial expressions (I drew this several weeks back). The colors are mostly taken from apple blossoms, and I do think it’s hilarious that it makes Dream look like they are cosplaying a raw steak.

Gyftmas2022 (fic by kasbaka) - comic
I read kasbaka’s Nightmare/Uncorrupted Nightmare fic from Gyftmas2022 (after getting the most enthusiastic rec for it by askellie) about young Nightmare’s fated meeting with his future self, it gave me many emotions immediately I ended up making this comic of a scene from it:
* 14 pages, under the cut:

Okay so, explanations. Uh.
So, even though they're canonically 18, Underlust!Frisk wears stripes in the ace flag. Conclusion: since Underlust is suffering from mass infertility, no one really wears stripes (too many bad associations) except for ace folks.
And in @the-kk-crow's main timeline, lust is considered a positive emotion, and is therefore a safe haven where Dream can avoid Corrupted Nightmare.
But they are also 1) ace and 2) a minor at the time of breaking out of the stone prison.
Ergo: this silliness.
Drawn both biblically-accurate and then a bit more sansoid. For lols.

A couple of sketches I did featuring an Error slightly closer to how I actually visualize him.
He bites the dark apple. But he’s fine. He walks back home, eyes sharp, bones white, not knowing he’s not supposed to exist.
One day, he will fall in love, and grow strong as a leader. Maybe one day he will understand this was not supposed to happen. Maybe one day he’ll understand how to appreciate his life.
