And the essence of absurdity, too, for the self is never to be found, but must be created
In the phrase [“to find myself”] lurks the idea that the self is a pre-existing entity, a self like a Platonic idea existing in a mystic realm beyond time and change. No, rather an object like a nugget of gold in the placer pan, the Eater egg under the bush at an Easter-egg hunt, a four-leaf clover to promise miraculous luck. Here is the essence of passivity, one’s quintessential luck. And the essence of absurdity, too, for the self is never to be found, but must be created, not the happy accident of passivity, but the product of a thousand actions, large and small, conscious or unconscious, performed not “away from it all,” but in the face of “it all,” for better or for worse, in work and leisure rather than in free time.

The start of the Carretera Austral. What a horrible picture. But the sign is hidden and strangely placed and I wasn't in the best shape. I didn't actually start that day to be honest. I was supremely hungover and 10km further down the road I realised I had left my bank card in the atm. Nice.One.Nicholas. The following day I set out with a damn fantastic American couple (after arranging to meet my replacement card further down the road) and things were far more glory shaped. Almost constant rain and loads of laughing and suffering together. Amazing how company makes what would be a hellish situation rather damn pleasant! I was taken to this little spot of heaven whilst helping my campsite owner retrieve some wood that was cut for construction. Damn they have beautiful wood around these parts. I spent eleven days during the transition into this new year in his campsite as my left knee decided that I was in fact carrying too much stuff with me. (muchas cosas!) I became a master of doing sweet sweet nothing. A skill I feel I'm going to cherish for the rest of my days. After much sitting and resting I'm up and pedaling again and damn ecstatic to be on the road again after many emotions and loads of lows. Almost losing your current greatest joy is a troublesome experience! Be aware of what's making you smile and tell it how appreciative you are of it. Whether it's a human, an animal or a good sturdy wooden spoon. Appreciation keeps you humble, bitch. Don't let that shit slip. MOUNTAINS AT LAST! So good to be around some slopes again. These ones are pretty legit too. Hoh damn. The lakes okay, I guess. All kinds of serious on the blue side of things. This is Lago Puelo just south of El Bolsón. So beautiful. The waters even colder. Wowza.
