No literally this is exactly what I was daydreaming about last week no joke. There are 0 ways usopp would let that happen. I can't handle sanji actually losing his humanity tho so it has to come back some how or something pls
Sanji losing all humanity within him and Zoro knowing he has to kill him because they made a promise but Usopp refusing to let him do it and it's Water 7 all over again except that this is somehow even worse
The more I think about that water 7 scene, the more I feel so thankful for sanji kicking luffy in the face. Imagine if that hadn't happened? Luffy would have said something he would intensly regret, usopp probably wouldn't have come back, or at least it would be less likely. And usopp would have felt so alone and ganged up on in that situation. He was looking around for explanation and was desperate to understand, and no one was offering him one. It would be really easy for usopp (or anyone really) to be in that situation and take everyone's silence as them agreeing with luffy rather than them trying to trust the captain handle the situation. And for someone who's already feeling rejected/abandoned/confused/heartbroken/insecure, it would be easy to interpret it as no one wanting you around anymore. Easy for that anxiety to dig it's claws in to convince you everyone hates you now. Thank fuck sanji kicked him, because it not only shows usopp his anger towards luffys emotionally charged responses, but it also promoted emotional reactions from the rest of the crew. At the very least it made usopp aware that it was an upsetting situation for everyone.
I think we don't appreciate pre-ts Usopp because people keep thinking with their dicks. I know his boobs are awesome after the time skip, but look at this silly little guy. Love of my life.
Another usopp thought here. The show really likes to frame him as comedic relief all the time(I'm not saying that's a bad thing), but he does cool stuff often. If you look at scenes with him and remove the comedic framing, it's impressive but people just don't notice. In this scene in wano, he's framed as his pathetic silly self fighting in a panic. But like, what's happening in this scene factually? If you look at the enemies he's rapidly shooting, and pay attention to which ones change out after being hit, he shoots down like 21 ppl in less than 2 minutes. That's an average of about 5 seconds per person. And he does this while giving a speech, successfully convincing two people not to give up on living no matter what. He's terrified but competent. This happens all the time, framing is everything. Imagine the same scene but with sanji. It would probably be him doing a bunch of cool fighting effortlessly while delivering a cool sounding serious speech. Ppl would walk away from that one thinking it was a good sanji moment, he's skilled, and emotionally intelligent and caring. But for usopp it's never framed that way. Ppl walk away from it thinking 'lol classic usopp, scaredy cat who is incredibly blunt when panicked and floundering' because of framing.
My fiance and I were blabbing about potential one piece movie ideas last night and I'm obsessed with this one idea and I know it will never happen but FUCK I wish it would. So basically the premise is its a normal fantastical high stakes adventure for the strawhats, that doesn't change. Plot beats don't change either. But, the twist is its all from usopps perspective. Not like literal looking theough his eyes, but focused on him, and his experience. Generally as a character he notices everything, it's his job to be the sniper, and that paired with anxiety makes usopp hyper aware of his surroundings, the crew members, and where they're at. Idk if you guys have noticed, but unless he's super into a hobby or something he's doing for fun, he's super aware of everyone and their emotional state, safety, his environment etc. That's part of why he's scared all the time, he's very risk aware. So the movie would be showcasing that basically. You would see his strategy options he debates and why, the things he notices about crew members, and get a good look at his internal workings and his perspective of his crew members and their capabilities. And because he values them highly, it will end up having these moments of appreciation when he's observing their strengths. But the story would be his perspective, his experience as he's running around, his thought process and concerns for others that motivate his behavior etc. It wouldn't jump to other characters, just show his story. And after my fiance was done describing the opening scene and its cool details(I won't even try, he did it so beautifully and I can't recreate it) I was like "wait, so are we basically describing 'the zeppo' buffy episode but just usopp instead of Xander as a premise?" And he was like, "oh my God, yes. That's the one where the world is ending but we just follow Xander around and see his highjinx and emotional journey of recognizing his value right?" "Yes, and by the end he doesn't need other people to see his value, or know his experience because he sees it himself and that's good enough." Anyways I'm obsessed with this idea now and desperately wish it would be a real movie. Usopp is such an undervalued character and his scenes are framed as comedic even when he's really cool. This could break that form(slightly, it would still be fun but he wouldn't be comedic releif) and also could showcase characters like nami and chopper as well. Usopp sees their value as well and I don't think namis fights in this would be reduced to just using thunderbolt tempo etc.
My friend (who for vibe context is a very timid, polite, introverted, library archive worker who writes religious history analysis articles in his spare time) has started watching OPLA with his partner. I love his commentary and thoughts.
Got a telescope last fall for 50 bucks second hand. I'm super excited about everything I can see, but surprisingly the moon is the coolest so far. I think this is my best picture I've taken of it to date.
Yes I am being sarcastic. I was livid. Like come on, he had been trying to advocate for that ship for months while everyone agreed to fix the ship with no follow through. How was he supposed to believe they had tried everything at that point? How was he supposed to trust that luffy prioritized the merry when the whole crew repeatedly showed through actions that merry wasn't something they prioritized? Obviously the crew loved the merry, it was their home. But they didn't show that to usopp. And they heard the news, and the explanation, and had time to go through some of the stages of grief. Meanwhile usopp was fighting ready to throw away his life trying to get that money back to fix the merry. And after that whole thing, he doesn't get an explanation. Right as he wakes up hes just told they're building a new better one? And he tried to prompt an explanation so many times. It must have been so upsetting to look around the room and see none of his friends offer one, and none jump to the merrys defense when just hours ago they had FINALLY been on the same page about fixing the merry. This was usopps last sliver of home. His first time sailing the seas was on this ship from home. Of course it would be upsetting. He did disrespect luffy for sure, but that was after months of the whole crew disrespecting his feelings and avocation for the merry. Both were in the wrong, but I genuinely believe usopp would not have gotten to that point if someone would have just explained it properly to him. FUCK IM STILL SO MAD ABOUT THAT WHOLE THING. It was the angriest I've been in years no joke.
