Boys Don’t Dance
Written By Ivy Whitaker
Tumblr media
Boys Don’t Dance is a sapphic romance written by Ivy Whitaker, and published in May of 2024. It follows Lyra Moreno and Alexis Marsh (Cole) a decade after their break up. They were each others first love, and were forced apart by family and society. But they’ve both done well for themselves. Lyra is a 5 time best selling author, and Alexis is the mother of two beautiful children, and the wife of a state trooper. They both should be happy, but something feels like it’s missing.
When Lyra returns home after her sister suffers an unexpected medical emergency, she has to take over her sisters dance studio, teaching classes and managing financial accounts. She feels a bit out of her element.
Alexis has her world turned upside down when she sees Lyra of all people teaching her daughters dance class. She was not expecting to see her childhood ex anytime soon, and she was not expecting all of her suppressed feelings to come roaring back to the surface. But she’s married, she has children. Is she really willing to uproot their lives for a childhood love?
Tumblr media
As far as the plot goes- I really enjoyed the story. It was interesting and easily kept my attention, it was well written overall, the characters were consistent, and I had fun reading it (even when I was crying). But that’s kind of where my enjoyment ends.
While I think it was overall well written, there were a few word choices that I felt were off. Using “exacerbated” and “tummy”(not speaking to or around children) in the same characters POV was personally jarring. I was expecting the word choice to be more complex, and then was hit with “Shame filled her tummy”.
On top of that, there were several times where the text message conversations were formatted incorrectly. It’s very hard to explain, but I will try to include screenshots to show.
Like I said- I enjoyed the storyline. I thought it was done very well. But the issues I had with it ended up kind of dampening my enjoyment of the book as a whole. I think it’s definitely worth the read, despite my star rating I do recommend it, just know there are some formatting issues, etc.
Tumblr media
So in the shot above, the POV is Lyra so all of her texts should be on the right hand side. And in the shot above this is the case.
Tumblr media
This is the same conversation- just a little further down the page, and Lyra switches to the left hand side randomly? For one text? And then it switches back.
This is the only example I screenshotted, but similar things happen two other times in the copy I read. It wasn’t hard to figure out what was going on, but like…it def took me out of the story whenever it happened.

•This book is my Roman Empire. I….. I don’t even know where to start. I was wondering why this one of the series had the worst chokehold on me and realized because me and Bran have a small thing in common, and when books have that, I always fall hard. I knew going into this book is was going to ruin me and boy, did it. This was the one I was so looking forward to because I love Niko and Bran. And then together was everything. Although chapter 36 was ride as fuxk, this book, man I am already wanting to reread it. I was giggling, smiling like an idiot then entire time. My sweet Niko, I figured out he’s the black fur golden retriever. My sweet unhinged Niko caught my sweet, proper Brans attention and refused to let him go. Niko, I will always love that he never pushed Bran out and wanted him, demons and all. These 2, they have won my favorite couple and I am so lost and don’t know what to do now that I’m done.

List of “you’re an oblivious idiot but I’m so gone for you either way” prompts
“So do I need to be more direct with you from now on? Because that’s what I’m going to do if it means you can finally understand how much I adore you.”
“Was I not obvious enough this whole fucking time or are you as dense as a brick?”
“I tried hinting to you!” “Well, you could have used words instead! You know I’m not the best at reading between the lines.”
“So what the hell do I have to do to make you realise that I’m head over heels in love with you?” “…I need more than words.” “Oh my fucking— I’ve been giving you more than words this whole fucking time.”
“Wait, you like me?” “For God’s sake—“
“I thought you knew—” “No, I didn’t!”
“You’d think you’d be able to pick up the signs of me trying to flirt with you but apparently you’re denser than this wall and nothing gets through to you other than being smashed directly into with a goddamn crane.”
“So I guess I’m just going to  have to spell everything out for you because you clearly think I don’t like you when that could not be more wrong.”
“You can’t take a hint, can you?” “You know I only function properly when someone’s direct with me.”
“So who the hell are you in love with—” “You. Fucking damn it, I’m in love with you. Are you happy now? Can we move on?”

~ I DON'T CARE FOR YOU ~ RIVALS/ENEMIES PROMPTS
Tumblr media
requested by: anonymous request: rivals/enemies that secretly care about each other and look out for the other
Feel free to use and reblog!
"I won't ever do anything for you again!" *continues to help them whenever they're in distress*
cursing the other but secretly being worried about them
taking care of the other while they're unconscious
supporting the other in every regard as long as they're staying anonymous
"How could you be so stupid?"
"Do you really think I hate you? Just because we're rivals doesn't mean I hate you."
"What?! Person A is hurt?" *wide-eyed panic on their face*
feeling defeated when the other is defeated
"If I were you I wouldn't do that."
^ "Oh, so I probably should do it...?"
saying the opposite of what they're feeling
being their secret supporter
"You never listen to me!" "Yes! For a good reason!" "No! You're just being stupid!"
deliberately giving the other a headstart
insults as their love language
getting angry whenever someone else talks badly about the other
"YOU'LL NEVER MAKE IT!" *mutters under their breath*: 'You got it! You got it!'
"You know, someone said we would make the perfect team." "Eww! No!" "That's what I thought."
working on themselves just to be better than the other (or for the other?)
A: *being in a dizzy state* B: *taking care of them* "You can be such a pain in the ass." A: *slurring and grinning* "Bu'you love me." B: *sighs*

enemies to lovers prompts (roomie edition)
prompt list by @novelbear
"i told you i have someone coming over today and you leave this mess?" "if it's so important to you. you clean it."
"accidentally" locking the other one out
taking their sweet time in the only bathroom on purpose
"i told you not to put this in the wash load! look at what you did to it!" "you trusting me with your belongings was your first mistake."
one leaving all the lights on because they know it bothers the other to no end
doors slamming. all the time.
being petty and not sharing certain belongings (like i mean going as far to use separate HAND SOAPS)
when one is watching a movie and the other silently sits down to tune in.
^ maybe they had the intention of criticizing their taste in movies, but find out that the film is kind of interesting
"hey, you haven't come out of your room in like two days...i'm not worried or anything but the dishes are piling up and i need you to be alive so you can take care of them, so..."
one just happening to make "too much" of the other's favorite meal/dessert and offers to share to simply get rid of it.
"i would have gotten this done earlier if you hadn't distracted me!" "i didn't do anything this time!" "your face did!"
taking any compliments they get and running with it
"that's my hoodie..." "oh." "it's fine. i was going to get rid of it anyway. especially now that you've worn it."
one coming home a little later than usual and the other starts silently freaking out
if living with more people: sneaking into each others rooms at night because they know they'll get teased into oblivion if their relationship is revealed.
"we watched this movie last night...why are you watching it again?" "you and i both know we didn't get to actually watch anything yesterday."

enemies to lovers midpoint prompts
as the request stated, that ‘i am trying really hard to keep hating you‘ phase, or what i like to call the reluctant friend stage. feel free to use :)
“i think we’re friends now.” “God, don’t say that.”
“everything is just a competition for you… isn’t it?” “isn’t it for you, too?”
“h—” “don’t talk to me.”
“i’d pay good money for you to admit you tolerate me.” “tolerate being the operative word.”
“why can’t you open up to me?” “why do you want me to?”
they’re so used to hating each other sometimes the snide remarks just slip out LMAO
like “should i get you something too?” “you can get out of my fa— woah, hehe. sorry.”
“you’re still on that?” “still on that..??? STILL ON THAT?????? I CANT STAND YOU???!!!(!;!”
a whispered moment between them ; “i’m trying so hard to hate you.” “why?”
they’re trying hard to hate each other then something happens (plot) and they’re stuck together which makes it ten times harder
“be honest with me.” “but why? why would i do that?”
“stop.” “stop what?” “being so kind to me.”
remember… they hated each other a couple chapters back. what changed? why did it change? who did it start to change in first?
the moment where your character asks themselves; “when did this nuisance become so important to me?”

🧡🖤A Court of Silver Flames Review 🖤🧡
3.75/5🧡
I finally picked up A Court of Silver Flames because I've Kind of been on a Sarah J Maas binge recently, I’m just so obsessed with the worlds she builds, and also because I’ve been SO scared of accidentally stumbling upon spoilers online. I would be sad to have finally caught up on the ACOTAR series, but I have SO many more Sarah J Maas books to read!
This book is primarily about Nesta’s healing journey, and is supposed to be an emotional, character driven story. It’s a lot of training and learning how to deal with difficult emotions, and coping. I’m not sure what others would call it, but it gave me montage vibes. Along the way Nesta does learn to trust people and let her family in, but she also makes new friends, her own found family that she never really experienced before. In the background of this emotional journey, the immortal queen is stirring up trouble, and they need Nesta’s help to take her down.
Nesta is primarily the main character, but it is Cassian who is tasked with training her and monitoring her progress. Nesta has been at rock bottom for some time now, and she isn’t willing to let anyone help her. And Cassian has this need to help people who are hurting, so the pair works together perfectly. Well not really, because Nesta is fighting him basically the entire book, and he just wants to see her try again. But it makes for amazing sexual tension, and when things heat up…oh damn do they get extremely steamy. Nesta faces major (and much needed) character development which absolutely wouldn’t have happened without her family's involvement and Cassian's stubborn determination.
Coming to terms with every aspect of yourself, even the dark parts, and being able to forgive yourself, and finding the people who accept you are two major themes that show up throughout the novel. My favorite part of this book really highlights being able to forgive yourself.
Page 506:
“All the things I’ve done before—”
“Leave them in the past. Apologize to who you feel the need to, but leave those things behind.”
“Forgiveness is not that easy.”
“Forgiveness is something we also grant ourselves. And I can talk to you until these mountains crumble around us, but if you don’t wish to be forgiven, if you don’t want to stop feeling this way … it won’t happen.”
This part…really hit me hard. Something I’ve struggled with for a very long time has been letting go of the past and forgiving myself. It’s still hard to forgive myself, to find myself being worthy of forgiveness, but I will never move forward if I only hang onto the past. It was also probably from about this point where I stopped finding Nesta as annoying as I did in the beginning and started to understand why she’s like this.
I have always loved Sarah J Maas’ writing style. The way she crafts her world, the scenes that turn into a movie in my head, she never fails to completely whisk me away from reality and this book is no different. The tone she uses perfectly fits the disparity and uncertainty Nests feels in the beginning of the book, and changes very slowly to hopeful, strong, and willing. It is beautiful to see, and her writing style definitely is the reason I was able to finish this book so quickly! I devour all of her books in days though!!
So, what are my thoughts on this book?
I could not stand Nesta for the first 70% of the book or so. It bothered me so much that she was in such a mindset where she really truly believed no one else would ever understand what had happened to her, when she was surrounded by Fae who are hundreds of years old, her sister who was thrown in the cauldron with her, and her youngest sister who started hunting when she was 14 to keep them alive. I know how deep this book goes into her grief and I loved reading her journey, but Nests was insufferable for the majority of the book. In the end I like her more than I did in any other book, but I still don’t love her. I also think Cassian is way too good for her, but she also thinks that so I’m not really going to touch more on that. I should also mention here, I was an only child, and I have seen a lot of people mention “big sister trauma” hitting different, so maybe I’m just more disconnected from Nesta as a character. Her trauma is valid even if I can’t understand it completely, but that doesn’t forgive her for intentionally hurt those around her over and over again.

Crown of Midnight SPOILER RIDDLED Ramble
Because let’s be real, this is really just me rambling about books I read and that is OKAY 😇
If you would like to see my spoiler free thoughts you can check it out on instagram! I tend to keep all my spoiler free reviews there and my spoiler rambles here (because word limit 😅) so I will make sure to link the insta post here:https://instagram.com/p/CrJpeJPAymc/
⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️THIS IS THE SPOILER WARNING! PAST THIS POINT THERE WILL BE NOTHING BUT SPOILERS ⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️
And like I said, these are really just more my ramblings from while I read. Genuinely just random thoughts and feelings. Basically what I’m saying is my brain is chaos and this is considered “organized and put together” for me 😇 chaotic energy team ✅
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Watching them fall in love 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙 I LOVED this, even if it’s not necessarily who they end up being with
Tumblr media
This was SHOCKING and I have so many more questions. Also I’m still convinced somehow he is still pulling strings and trying to control Celaena’s life, but I have no proof.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I LOVE Nehemia so much and I just 😭😭😭 I just wanted Celaena to be happy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then it all came crashing down. And from this point on I COULDN'T put the book down. I read until I finished. In tears. I was sobbing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My jaw dropped.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was very shocked that Archer was actually involved. I want to know if that also means the other people she let live were actually traitors or if it was just Archer. Regardless, even though it was told to us from the beginning, I didn’t believe he was actually a rebel lol. Also, wasn’t too shocked that Celaena is fae, especially with how hidden she keeps her past. And the song she sung at Nehemias grave kind of gave her away- once Chaol found out what it was.
Tumblr media
I laughed because HOW IRONIC and then I cried for a bit because he is going to have to give her up, and he isn’t going to give her up. Or this is what makes him despise her and there is no going back after this. But I don’t think he will tell anyone. I think he did just make the biggest mistake though by having her sent to the HOME of the Fae.
anyways, yeah. That was chaos. I don’t even know if it’s coherent but I am pressing that post button :)

Throne of Glass SPOILER Discussion
💙💙💙/5
Tumblr media
My spoiler free review ⬆️
And my Brainstorming journal page ⬇️ (From this point on~ there are super high spoiler risks!!!)
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
I really like how the crown prince doesn’t have a great relationship with the king, and I’m glad the story shows us that.
Tumblr media
And that the crown prince respects Celaena as a human being, even though she is also a prisoner.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I am very intrigued by the magic in this world…because until the end it felt like magic was not going to be super prevalent ~ but I guess the King did outlaw it for a reason so? But why did he outlaw it? What scared him so much about magic? And does HE himself use it? Or did he outlaw magic because he CANT use magic. So many questions about the magic in the world, but excited for answers.
Tumblr media
This was my favorite part of the whole book. I started SOBBING so hard after this. I LOVE Nehemia so much and I HOPE SHE IS THE BEST FRIEND CELAENA NEEDS.
Tumblr media
Overall I really really enjoyed the book, but there were some things I didn’t really vibe with. I didn’t like that Celaena was just saved by magic (that we really don’t know about and don’t understand) in the final battle. I wasn’t super shocked that Cain was the guy killing other champions but I don’t think it’s supposed to be a big twist lol, he’s a jackass from the beginning. I would’ve just liked more explanation about the magic and the Wyrdmarks and what not~ but knowing there are 7(???idk) books in the series I am assuming it’s explained better later.
Im excited to continue reading the rest of the series; 🥰🥰
