My writing goal this month is to write at least something every day and stay in the habit of creating, even if it's not for assignments like it was not too long ago.
My work goal is to find a full-time position. I've literally just graduated from college (commencement is this afternoon !!!) and I would love to get a job to help fund my move later this year.
My fun goal is to use up a lot of the yarn I currently have and bust my stash. I'm planning on learning how to knit in the round 😵‍💫
who wants to goal set with me for next month? come share your WRITING goal, your WORK goal (take this however you want!), and your FUN goal!

crying and sobbing y'all when people said that you only add scenes that advance the plot they didn't JUST mean the overarching plot. they meant the plot of the book... entirely. like a conversation between two friends can advance the plot by characterizing them and grounding them with a meaningful relationship. if your book doesn't have "filler" it's missing emotional beats. which are plot. which are important. fun and whimsy aren't mutually exclusive from what "needs" to happen in your book. the advice isn't bad it's just taken too literally stop come back.

Dear writer,
Consider this your invitation to reblog your own content, again and again. Schedule it for odd hours, scoop it back up out of your past and let it shine in the light like it's new again. Pull favorite lines from your work and share it without waiting for a tag game. Celebrate it. You worked hard on it. Let it shine

Fuck your word count!
༺𖤐๋࣭ ⭑🕸🦇🕸๋࣭ ⭑๋࣭ 𖤐༻
"Focus on your word count," "Write 2,500 words a day," "Real writers set monthly word goals."
SHUT UP! Your word count doesn't matter. You're just stressing yourself out.
It doesn't matter if you write one word today or 10,000! At least you wrote something! Focus on that.
Quality and sanity of quantity.

Hello writing friend! I'm glad you are reading this. Your writing is amazing and I hope you keep going. The world needs your words: an obvious fact.
A lesser known fact: you need your words too. Don't stop <3

how to write creepy stories
over describe things
under describe things
short sentences in rapid succession build tension
single sentence paragraphs build dread
uncanny valley = things that aren't normal almost getting it right
third person limited view
limited expressions
rot, mold, damage, age, static, flickering, espsecially in places it shouldn't be
limited sights for your mc - blindness, darkness, fog
being alone - the more people there are, the less scary it is
intimate knowledge, but only on one side
your reader's imagination will scare them more than anything you could ever write. you don't have to offer a perfectly concrete explanation for everything at the end. in fact, doing so may detract from your story.

-
Title: Into the Wyvern's Lair Author: Mikki Madison
F/F (Pre-Relationship), Fantasy, the Inherent Eroticism of Being Competing Mercenaries After the Same Mark (and the Same Pay Day)

She doesn't expect the job to be that hard - it's not her first time facing a wyvern - but she also doesn't expect competition, in the form of a stubborn mage who has been hired by the same town at the same rate. But what she really doesn't expect is the wyvern...

-
Title: Fool's Gold Author: Eliot Lovell
M/M (Pre-Relationship), Fantasy, Dragon Hordes and Lifelong Dreams, Hurt/Comfort
When Tomas sets off to defeat a dragon, he does so despite the aches and pains of growing older and a bum hip. After they leave him unconscious in the woods, the last thing he expects is to be rescued and nursed to help. But he has one burning question: who found him, and why?
-
Title: Escape Author: Sanne Burg
F/M + F/M Established Relationship with Partner Swapping, Contemporary Romance, Middle-Aged Characters, Friends with Benefits to Lovers
Anxiety means that it doesn't take much to push Liam into needing some quiet time to himself, and he's so appreciative of his wife Alice taking the initiative to get him that quiet time.
He's slightly less appreciative when their friends-with-benefits partner-swap married friends Dan and Lola show up, especially considering that it was finding RPF fanart of him and Dan having sex that triggered Liam's anxiety in the first place...
-
Title: Old Kings and New Author: Lyonel Loy
M/M, Fantasy, Omega/Omega, Middle-Aged Characters, Bonding Over Shared Favorite (Rape Fantasy) Books
No one in their right mind would name Isemund king, but he's the only heir left, and so the council names him and then flees before the conqueror Caith can seize the castle.

Caith has other plans in mind.

Here's my entry for #fff249 @flashfictionfridayofficial! I've recently created a longer piece for this character, and I wanted to explore/expand on her story a little more.
-
Darkness. When Juliet opened her eyes, she could see nothing but darkness. She reached out and pushed against the door of the cryo-pod. It swung open with ease.
It was too quiet. Where was everyone?
“Computer, turn on the lights.”
“Turning on emergency lights.”
Emergency lights flickered to life along the bottom of the walls. Juliet crawled out of her cryo-pod, shivering. The crew should be running about, preparing the ship to land on the new colony.
“Computer, where are my clothes?”
“Civilian clothing is located at the end foot of each cryo-pod, along with passenger belongings.”
Juliet began rummaging through the velcro bag. She quickly found a jumpsuit and dressed herself, then grabbed her antique cassette recorder and a tape.
“Time to see where everyone is.” Juliet shoved her hands into her pockets.

REWARD REMINDER
Did you write today? Did you make art? Did you work hard? Did you try your best?
This is a reminder to reward yourself.
My number one writing tip is that I believe every writer should give themselves a little treat after a big session. For me today, that treat was a box of Gushers. They were on sale. Yum yum.
I eat my Gushers and it reminds me that I worked hard and deserve to be proud of myself. I'm proud of you too.
What is your treat going to be today?

Here's my entry for @flashfictionfridayofficial this week!
cw: mention of death of a child, grief
Sunlight filtered through the winter trees, kissing my face with soft pockets of warmth. Angelica would have loved the beauty of the season, but it mocked me in her absence.
I sat on the porch, clutching our old photo album in my lap. She’d been gone for a month, but it felt as if I just lost her yesterday. My husband ushered me outside, claiming a bit of sun would do me some good. I argued but eventually relented. I spent the morning looking through her baby pictures and listening to the birds.
A flash of red against the snow caught my eye. I looked up, scanning the trees for the source. A cardinal sat on a branch and stared into my soul. Tears pricked my eyes. My baby was visiting her mama.
