It’s genius, actually.
Tim Smith, one of Australia’s most respected vocal coaches, has carved himself a niche which is really (like, really!) taking off. His self created start-up – Vocal Alchemy – was launched in 2010, after sitting on audition panel after audition panel and discussing the challenges of performing with auditionees. It became clear to Tim that most artists could not afford private singing tuition from quality singing teachers, so by combining high quality arts practice with state of the art technology, he now provides affordable, accessible, online singing lessons to students in 8 countries around the world. And everyone is talking about it.

That lovable moppet with the red dress, the curly hair, the big dog, and the even bigger voice is back.
This time, though, Little Orphan Annie is back with a difference: Quvenzhane Wallis is playing an African-American orphan in an ethnically diverse, up-to-date world. And that got us thinking about other instances where producers have breathed fresh life into familiar shows by making them dance to a new beat.
In the late 1960s, after 1,500 performances, Broadway’s Hello Dolly! was still arguably “glowin’” and “crowin’” but was no longer “goin’ strong.” Carol Channing had long since departed with a touring company. And her first three replacements on the Great White Way — Ginger Rogers, Bette Grable and Martha Raye — had been playing to ever-diminishing crowds. Newer shows like Man of La Mancha and Cabaret were making Dolly seem old hat.
Then producer David Merrick figured out how to make Dolly the freshest face on the block. He hired not just a new star, but a whole new cast. A whole new black cast, at the height of the civil rights movement — Pearl Bailey, Cab Calloway, even a youngster named Morgan Freeman making his Broadway debut — and suddenly, his tired old warhorse looked new again.
An Updated ‘Annie’ And The Tradition Of Nontraditional Casting

"After watching the 'widen your tone' video from the new 7 min series, I felt like I had just had a one-on-one private with the incredibly energetic, exciting and motivating Tim Smith, I hardly noticed that I was listening to Tim via a computer as the lesson had the perfect balance of listening/learning and practical work.
I love the technique that Tim teaches in this video of 'widening your tone' as I've learnt how to use the natural functions of my body and voice (for example how I can use my natural laughter to improve my singing) to create and find my most natural, unique and safe sound, it has made singing much more simple and has stopped my bad habits as well as stopping me from trying to manufacture a sound that isn't mine. The simple yet effective technique of widening my sound instead of tightening to sing higher, louder and more powerfully creates a much richer sound as well as releases any unnecessary pressure on the voice, creating much better vocal health."
- Sam Dodemaide, Winner of Rob Guest Endowment Award 2014, King Kong, A Chorus Line, Wicked about to join Sweet Charity.
