Jar Head
Stoneware, slips and glaze
Soda-fired
Jar Head is a combination of throwing and handbuilding. The base of the jar is from a thrown cylinder that is cut up into long strips of clay when it is leather hard. Then the base was rebuilt into a box using a coiling technique. The head was built on top of the rebuilt box using coiling and paddling technique. The pieces were slipped with porcelain and flashing slips. The interior was glazed. I think of the jar heads as practical and purposeful, a reminder to ourselves that what we contain within us can be the ingredients for discovery and surprise.

These Fat Heads I made @township10 feel unknown to me. What I mean is that they came from a place I don’t have access to most of the time. I don’t know exactly what these fat heads mean, but at the time of making they meant everything. Maybe that is the beauty of working in art, of letting go and giving up trying to understand. Intuition expresses the invisible world to us.
I’m doing my best to listen.
