On Sunday I performed for the Opening Ceremony of the #leagueoflegendsworlds2022 - and it was one of the most epic events I’ve ever participated in. The team at @riotgames @riotgamesmusic @lolesports @hollywoodscoring are brilliant. I’ve never seen visuals like those. Wow!! Dearest friends and family, It is with great sadness that I share the news of my Father’s passing. Dad lived a good life, and his last weeks were filled with visits from friends, new and old, and family. People traveled from near and far to pay homage to the impact he made on their lives. He was surrounded by those he loved most. His spirit is free, and he is no longer in pain. He survived for 10 years with prostate cancer. 6 weeks ago we all learned that the cancer had metastasized. Thankfully, I was able to get back to the USA to spend time with him and let him know that I love him. I cherish those moments, as well as the many memories of a life well lived. In so many ways, I am my Father. The first born. The legacy builder. The devoted musician. The nerdy polymath. The aspiring polyglot. The glasses wearing, easy friend making, sci-fi loving, empathetic, goofy, loving human being. My family and I honor him through emulating his dedication to lifelong learning, seeking spiritual guidance, finding love, laughter and light in all circumstances. Thank you, Dad, for the music, the laughs, the pranks and jokes, the long conversations, the strong and gorgeous DNA, and mostly, the love. I remember meeting @zendaya when she was 8 years old, @hermusicofficial when she was about 13, and @kehlani when she was about 11. I met @daelyanna_daily when she was 3, started teaching her music when she was about 8. Now she’s on the path to become another big star. I’m so proud of her and her Dads!! Last night was such a thrill for this rock and roll heart! As a professional musician, I strive to not become jaded as music changes from generation to generation, season to season. I do my best to keep up with trends and appreciate new mainstream music and aesthetics. But damn! I feel so luck to be Gen X!! Not only was our music vibrant and exciting, melodic yet rhythmic, memorable and impactful, but it was FUN!! It was such a joy to watch legacy musicians, even when it was a bit of a train wreck, play a show where MUSIC was the focus. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE light shows, dancers, sets, etc. But sometimes the MUSIC gets lost in all of that. Last night was a throw back to the love of music for music’s sake. I really miss bands in modern mainstream music culture ❤️ I was especially excited to watch my friend, the legendary Omar Hakim, perform, but also got caught up in my nostalgia as one act after the next came on stage to pay tribute to Taylor Hawkins. 1 Hanging with Omar and Rachel Z 2 When Dave and I first arrived, we ran into Elmo Lovano and Christian Paul Meadows and the serendipity couldn’t have been better.
