Chapter 2
"Let me see that!" Nayeon tries to grab my paper from my hand. "No! Why should I?" "Well if I'm going to sing it I wanna know what the lyrics are!" "What!? No! Not till I finish the song! I've only written a few lines!" I run away and attempt to hide in my room. "Fineeeeee, but you better eat the pizza I bought." "Whatever!" I pop my head out the door and stick my tongue out and sneak back to the lyrics I wrote down. I lay on my bed staring at the ceiling. I want to see Mina again. I close my eyes and reminisce about what happened today. Am I really falling in love? No way, I just met this girl. But...but there's something about her. I open my eyes and I'm blinded by light. "Ahhhh! What the...what time is it!?" "Relaaaaax it's only like 7 am, you shouldn't have another class for 2 hours or something."
I see Nayeon sitting in my chair. "What are you doing at my desk?" "Well I came inside to yell at you for falling asleep before eating dinner, which I've never seen you do before, and then I saw this so I decided to read it." "Saw wha-HEY! I told you it's not ready!" Nayeon starts laughing as she runs away with my lyrics in her hand. "What are you so ashamed of!? These are cute lyrics! And not just that, they're good!" I stop in my tracks and catch my breath. "Re-really?" "Yeah! My Jeongyeon is in loooove. With who!? You wanna tell me?" "What!? I'm not in love! Even if I was I wouldn't tell you!" "But we're best friends! You can tell me anything! Ah! Unless...Jeongyeon are you in love with me?" I look at her in complete disgust. "Please, I didn't eat dinner, I don't want to throw up." "It's ok Jeongyeon you can admit, come here cutie." She runs towards me and tries to kiss my cheek. "Nayeon! Stoooop, god I hate when you do this! Ahhh!" "Booo! Whatever then, here's your lyrics back. You seem to be on a good track, keep it up!" I swiftly grab my paper and run before she tries some sneak attack. I sit at my desk and stuff the paper in a drawer. I look at my phone to check the time. 7:30. Ugh, I want to sleep some more, but I need to get ready for class. I hear a loud roar from my stomach. Oh that's right...I should probably eat too. I take a quick shower and get dressed. I eat some of the leftover pizza nayeon left me, after throwing away the pineapple of course. I grab my penny board and head to class. When I finally get there I see Mr Peterson inside. "Sup Jerry!" "It's Professor Peterson to you Jeongyeon." He glares, "You're on time to class for once, what's going on?" "I got some decent sleep, I guess." "Well let's hope it was decent enough that you'll stay awake today." "Yeah hopefully." I laugh. I take out my notebook and pencil and get ready. Rrrrriiiiiiinng "And that ends today's lecture." Damn it, not again. I grab notebook and look at what was supposed to be notes, instead it looks like I was drawing how to unravel a ball of yarn. I try to sneak away before Mr Peterson tries to call me again. "Jeongyeon!" I smile as I slowly turn around, hoping he won't yell at me again. "Have you been working on your song for the talent contest?" "I have actually!" "May I see what you have so far?" He says with intrigue in his eyes. "Oh I left it in my dorm room, but I've been working on it really!" "I see, you've at least signed up for the contest correct?" "I have to sign up?" He looks at me in shock. "Jeongyeon did you even read the flyer I handed you the other day?" I take out the crumpled piece of paper and read what's on it. "Let's see...sign up for talent show...blah blah...sign up by the 7th at 12pm at the performing arts building. Ok what about it?" "Jeongyeon, today is the 7th, and it's 11:30." "WHAT!?" I run straight for the door and ride my penny board to the performing arts building. It felt like I was going 100 miles an hour. "Move! Get out the way!" I yell out I check my phone again and its 11:45. Ugh! Why did my stupid class have to be on the complete opposite side of campus!? Soon, I can see the performing arts building coming up and I check my phone again and its 11:50. I run up the stairs and I see a girl walking out of the entrance. "Hey you! Where do I go to sign up for talent show!?" "Third floor, now let go of me!" She yells.
I didn't mean to grab her but I was in a hurry. "Sorry! Thanks!"
I run up the third floor and see people cleaning up the sign up booth. "Oh no! Please tell me ...I'm not...too late... to sign up!" I yell in bits and pieces trying to catch my breath. "Yeah, you still can! We were just getting ready to leave a little early, here's the sign up sheet." This girl passes me this clipboard and sit down in relief as I fill out all the information. I hand her back the clipboard as I stand up. "Thank you so much, I thought I was doomed." "No problem! My name is Jihyo Park, I'm in charge of organizing the event this year, if you have any questions feel free to ask me." "Yes of course, thank you again so much." She smiles and as she turns around I can hear light footsteps coming in this direction. "Wait! Please tell me I'm not too late!" Jihyo turns around and laughs. "Mina! I would've thought you signed up already!" Mina? They know each other? Mina runs right past me and stops right in front of Jihyo. I can smell her perfume as it lingers in the space she passed. Smells like lavender, which I love, and honestly I can't get enough of it. "I know, but I kept putting it off since I'm here everyday and I didn't realize I hadn't signed up until just now." "Well don't worry about it you can still sign up. Besides you're not the only one." Jihyo looks at me and smiles. Suddenly Mina turns around and looks at me too. Then, I realize I'm still dripping in sweat from the ride here, and I hide behind my penny board and try to walk away. "Jeongyeon?" Hearing Mina say my name stops me in my tracks. "Jeongyeon it's you right? The girl from the other day? You're signing up too? Oh wow!" She says with her gummy smile. "Yeah, yeah I am haha." I say awkwardly. I don't wanna be here, I feel so gross. This is so embarrassing. "What are you going to perform?" Mina asks as she writes down her info on the clipboard. "I...I'm not really performing, I'm writing a song and my friend is gonna sing it. It's just some dumb thing..." "Oh I like it! That sounds awesome! What's the song about?" I can feel my face heat up. I can't possibly say it's about her. "Umm it's about this girl who fell in love and is trying to express it...I guess." God she makes me so nervous. Oh how cute! "What about you? Is this what you were rehearsing your dance for the other day?" "Yeah it is! Wait, how did you know I was doing a dance?" Oh no, I obviously can't tell her it's because I was watching her dance without her knowing. "Well uhh you said you were rehearsing the other day when I saw you, and you were in a dancing outfit and so I kind of just assumed." Please buy it, please buy it. "Oh duh! Haha of course." She says with that again adorable gummy smile. "Oh! Jeongyeon you're sweating a bit." Oh no, after coming all the way here and seeing Mina I realize I had still been sweating this whole time. I feel so disgusting. How is this even possible? "Oh boy, I'm sorry, I should g-" Mina starts wiping my forehead with a hankerchief.
"What were you doing before you got here?" "I...boarded all the way from the music building to here so...I guess I'm pretty tired...hey Mina! I'll just do that myself, you don't have to do this haha." I grab the hankerchief and wipe my sweat on my own, Mina suddenly coming in close certainly didn't help. "Oh sorry, my friend sweats a lot while she plays piano and I do that for her when she's getting in the zone, force of habit I guess." "Oh I see, don't worry, you just caught me by surprise that's all." "Mina, I'm still here. And I'm gonna need the clipboard." "Oh Jihyo! I'm so sorry! Here you go!" "It's fine, is she your girlfriend or something? Jihyo laughs, you two are awfully close." "Me and Jeongyeon! Oh no, we're just friends we've only just met!" "Yeah! Yeah...just friends...we met like yesterday." I say hesitantly. "Yeah ok, good luck to you both on the talent show, make sure you stay friends if one of you wins and not the other." "Jihyo! Don't be like that!" Mina scolds. Jihyo laughs and walks away. "I'm sorry, she's such a tease." "Oh no it's fine really, that was nothing compared to someone I know." I shiver as I remember this morning. "Oh Mina, here's your hankerchief." As I hand it to her I realize this thing is drenched and instantly I take it back.
"I'm so sorry, let me wash this before I give it back." "Oh umm sure, but how will you get it back to me?" "Do you have a number? Once I wash it I'll send you a text." "Oh ok! Sounds good to me. Here you go." As I'm putting her number in my phone I realize what I'm doing and I try to calm myself down. "Ok thanks again, I'll let you know when I've washed it." "Of course! It's a nice hankerchief so don't keep for yourself now Jeongyeon!" She laughs. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted. I wave bye to Mina and board back to my dorm. Finally, I can relax, and I lay on my bed. As I think about what happened just now, I decide to get up, sit at my desk, open the drawer, and grab a pencil. To be continued...
Your scent, your gestures Even the way you call my name You’re like, oh like it Now please know my heart, my boy oh neoui hyanggi neoui sonjit nal bureuneun ne maltu hanakkaji neoneun machi Oh Like it ije nae mam arajwo My boy Oh 너의 향기 너의 손짓 날 부르는 니 말투 하나까지 너는 마치 Oh like it 이제 내 맘 알아줘 My boy oh

Chapter 1
“Jeongyeon!”
“Huh!? What!? Who’s there!?”
“Stop falling asleep, this is a university songwriting classroom not your bedroom.”
The class giggles and I hide my face. It’s not my fault his voice is so monotone that I fall asleep.
Rrrrriiiinnnng
“Anyway class, I have your latest exams here, please pick them up before you leave.”
Oh god, I don’t even want to look at that exam again,  I didn’t study at all. I walk up to the desk and pick it up slowly and take a peek at my grade.
F.
Oh great, gotta get out of here before he calls-
“Jeongyeon! Can you come to my desk please.”
Me…
Grudgingly I turn around and put a fake smile on my face. Maybe if I annoy him enough he’ll let me go.
“Hey Jerry! What’s going on?”
“It’s Professor Peterson, Jeongyeon. How can you act so nonchalant after just seeing your latest exam score?”
“I try not to dwell on things too much you know? Tomorrow is another day!”
“I advise you to rethink your philosophy on life. Let me show you your total grade in the class.”
“I should be fine right? My actual writing assignments are perfect, its really just the tests that… what!? I’m almost failing!?”
“While you are correct that your song writing assignments are perfect, brilliant really, these tests do matter, and you’re doing terribly on them.”
“Professor Peterson, I’ll study my butt off for this final, if I get a decent grade what can I get in the class?”
“I’m afraid it might be too late to get anything done with just the final.”
“Jerry please!”
He looks at me sternly.
“I mean, Professor Peterson… there’s gotta be something I can do.”
He takes a deep breath and takes a flyer out of his bag and hands it to me.
“This is the university’s talent contest, your talent in song writing is some of the best I’ve ever seen,  if you weren’t so-”
“Lazy?”
“More like, uninspired.”
He takes a deep breath and takes off his glasses and looks at me.
“You’d be one of my best students, if you just applied yourself. Ok, listen Jeongyeon, if you can write a song good enough to place at all in this contest, I’ll count it as extra credit.”
“So all I have to do is write the song?”
“No no, its not that easy. Nobody is going to vote for you on lyrics alone. You need a good producer who can accompany music to your lyrics and the right singer to provide feeling to your words. Both things I have emphasised in this class. If you actually paid any attention you would know this. If the music doesn’t grab the audience and the singer can’t convey the feeling you are trying to show to the audience the lyrics get ignored. I’m trying to show you that making a song isn’t as simple as you think. Will you take my offer?”
Instantly I want to leave the room and forget about that stupid contest, but then I look at my grade and sigh. This is probably my only chance.
“Fine, I’ll do it.”
I snatch the flyer and head out.
“Remember this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t study for the final!”
“Yeah yeah Jerry whatever.”
“It’s Professor Peterson to you Jeongyeon, Professor Peterson!”
I sat in my dorm room for hours thinking of what I could write.
“Not this either ughhh!”
I crumple and toss, what seemed to be the hundredth failed song, to the trash which was starting to overflow. I hear my room door creak open.
“Jeongyeon what is this mess!?”
When I look to see who’s talking I jump off my chair and go down on my knees.
“Nayeon! You with your beautiful voice! Help me!”
Nayeon has been my best friend for as long as I can remember. We came to this school thinking we could be the next big names in music. If anyone has the talent to do that it’s her. She has a voice like an angel, and she knows it.
“What’s up pabo? What can I help you with? And what’s with this mess? You’re normally the clean one.”
“The talent contest! I need to place in order to pick up my grade in songwriting class, can you sing it for me?”
“Of course! Anything for you, let me see what you got.”
I look over at the pile of trash and then to my empty desk.
“I got…nothing…”
“Really Jeongyeon? This is why you’re failing, you’re so-”
“Uninspired?”
“More like lazy.”
I scoff in disbelief.
“Does this look like laziness to you?” I yell as I point to the pile of failed attempts to write a song.
“Yes.”
I stand up and get in Nayeon’s face ready to fight.
“Yes!? What do you mean? I’ve been here for hours!”
“If you hadn’t been lazy and actually studied in the first place, you wouldn’t be here would you?”
All I can do is glare at her then sit back down at my desk because I know she’s right.
“Are you gonna help me or not?”
“Ask me again when you actually have something written down. And clean up, I can’t believe I have to be the one to tell you this.”
I stretch and place a new piece of paper down on my desk.
“I’m not leaving this room until I get this song written!”
“By the way, don’t you have dance class in 20 minutes?”
“I’m not leaving this room until its time to go to class!”
“Doesn’t it take like 15 minutes to get there? You still have to change too.”
“I hate you.”
“What was that? You love me? Oh thanks I love me too.” She giggles.
I scoff at her narcissism and get dressed into my dance clothes and grab my penny board and run off to class.
Stupid general ed classes. What is even the point of them? I thought I was done with physical education in high school anyway? I refuse to play sports and this was the only option left.
“Ahhh!”
I look up and notice I almost hit this girl.
“Oh my gosh, I wasn’t paying attention! Are you ok?”
“It’s ok.” she says with a smile.
Her voice was quiet, but sweet. I held out my hand to help her up and before I could say anything, she grabbed it and stood up.
“Thank you.” she said quietly.
She pulls away her hand and runs up the steps and into the perfoming arts building. As I watched her run, I feel a warmth in my cheeks and in my chest. I catch myself looking at my hand that held hers for a short while. Who is this girl? I’ve been coming to this class for months and I’ve never seen her around before. I ran up the steps to follow her but when I enter inside the building she’s lost in the sea of people running to class. I decide to give up and head to my classroom. After an hour of exhausting dancing I grimly walk out of the class like a zombie. I head over to the water fountain across the hall near the ballet practice room because sadly it’s the only one in this dumb building and I forgot my water bottle at the dorm. As I drink my water I can hear a piano playing in the practice room. I gulp down my water and take look inside. There’s a girl playing effortlessly looking as focused as can be and the music coming from it sounds so beautiful I could cry. I look to the right and there’s a girl dancing along to the melody as if she came straight out of a fairytale. I look at the dancing girl and realize that it’s the girl I ran into earlier! Suddenly the music stops and I hide beneath the window. I hear footsteps coming towards the door and I run out the building.
What is wrong with me!?
I sit down to catch my breath and I see the two girls walking out. The girl that played the piano walks away and waves goodbye, while the girl I ran into waves back and heads my direction. I clear my throat and walk up to her.
“Excuse me! H-hi! I’m the girl that accidentally ran into you earlier,  I saw you heading this way a-and I realized I-I didn’t get a chance to apologize…sooo… I’m sorry for almost running you over.”
I’m sorry for almost running you over? Really?  And why am I stuttering?
“Oh! Yeah I was almost late for my rehearsal so I just got up and ran, and don’t worry about it I’m fine, if anything I’m sorry, I should’ve looked where I was going.” She says with the same smile from earlier. It was sort of gummy smile I never knew how cute that could be before today.
“No no! Don’t be sorry! I’m the one that should’ve been paying more attention. I’m Jeongyeon Yoo, and there has to be something I can do to make it up to you, really.”
“I’m Mina Myoui, and no please don’t worry about it I’m fine. I also have to go take a shower and get to my next class, so I’m in a bit of a hurry again, so I have to go, but it was nice to meet you! Bye!”
She shows that cute gummy smile again and waves goodbye and runs off.
I skate back home and all I can think about is that gummy smile. Even when I’m sitting at my desk trying to figure out lyrics all I can think about is how she could wave bye at me as if we were close when we only just met.
“Jeong! Jeong! Yah! Yoo Jeongyeon!”
I turn to the door to face the nagging girl in front of me.
“WHAT!?”
“What are you doing staring off into space like that? I’ve been asking you what do you want to eat and you don’t answer! I got pizza by the way.”
“What kind?”
“Hawaiian.”
“Gross! You know I hate pineapple on pizza!”
“I know! That’s what you get when you don’t answer right away! You pick off the pineapple for all I care. What are you even doing staring off into space and smiling like that? Its like you fell in love or something.”
Me in love? No way I just met the girl. If anything I might like her. I think…
Something sparks in my brain.
“Nayeon!”
“What!? I’m not buying you another pizza!”
I grab a pencil and write down a few lines.
“I think I just started my song!”
To be continued…
My voice is trembling, I can’t control it My cheeks are turning red I can’t hide it I try to act cool and fine But I can’t hide my feelings I think I love you

Memory Lane: Maybe It’s Better
Final Bonus Chapter: The Wedding
“Don’t do it! I can’t sit here and let you go through with this! I love you too much to see you do this please, Tzuyu don’t!”
“Sana, what are you talking about?”
“Stop eating chocolate while wearing your dress! What if you drop some on it!?”
“You need to relax, I’m not gonna dro-“
Sana and I look at each in disbelief.
“SANA I DROPPED CHOCOLATE ON MY DRESS! HELP!”
“I TOLD YOU TO STOP! YOU DUMMY!”
“What’s going on in here!?” Dahyun yells as she enters through the door.
“Tzuyu dropped chocolate on her dress!” Sana yells.
“It’s because you keep yelling at me!”
“Because you won’t stop eating chocolate! Now look at you!”
“Both of you relax! I can grab some club soda from the bartender outside, relax, the stain is barely even noticeable anyway. But, yeah Tzuyu, stop eating chocolate.” Dahyun says in a stern tone.
“You sound like my mom, Dahyun.”
“Would like me to get her and show her what you did to your dress?”
“No…” I stop myself before I get into any more trouble.
“What would you do without me Chou Tzuyu?” Dahyun smiles and heads to the bar.
“Wait! I’ll go with you babe, I need to get a drink.” Sana rushes outside and grabs Dahyun’s arm as they walk away.
I take another look at the stain, and take a deep breath as I slouch on my chair. Today is the big day. I’m getting married with the love of my life. I wonder what Chaeyoung is doing right now? Is she just as nervous as I am? How funny would it be if she dropped chocolate on her outfit too? I laugh at the thought of it.
*knock knock*
That was quick, I thought the bar was on the other side of the venue? I head over to the door and open it.
“Dahyun did they have any club so-“
*SLAM*
“Hey! Is that how you treat the person you’re about to marry!?”
“Chaeyoung what are you doing here!?” My heart is beating a thousand beats per minute.
“I just couldn’t wait any longer. I wanted to see you.” She laughs.
Ugh. Her laugh is so cute. I open the door just a little.
“I’m sorry.” I say softly.
“It’s ok.” She smiles, “Let me in I want to see you!” She exclaims.
“No!” I shout.
“What!? Why not?”
“Don’t you know it’s bad luck to see the bride in her wedding dress before the wedding?”
“You know, I’m the bride too right?” Chaeyoung laughs. “Besides, it’s not fair you can see me right now!”
I was so flustered at her being her I didn’t even realize that. Chaeyoung takes a step back and spins around. I can see every angle of her suit. She was stunning.
“Ok.”
“Ok what? Will you let me in now?” Chaeyoung asks excitedly.
“Ye-“ Suddenly I remember the chocolate stain. “Yeah, just give me a second!”
I close the door and sit down on the closest chair. I tuck the part of the dress with the stain under the chair and take a deep breath.
“Ok, come in.” I say nervously.
Chaeyoung opens the door slowly and comes through with her back to me. She closes the door and turns around. Her eyes light up and she bites her lip.
“Wow. Tzuyu you look absolutely beautiful.”
“You really think so?” I could feel the red in my cheeks as I smile like an idiot.
“Of course, I can’t believe I get to spend the rest of my life with you. You’re a blessing Chou Tzuyu.”
“You better not be saying your vows already.” I glare.
“No of course not!”
Chaeyoung and I laugh at each other and she sits next to me and holds my hand.
“Are you ready for today?” She asks.
“I think so, I just don’t hope I trip down the aisle. I mean look how long this dress is! I never really realized it until today!”
“You think so? It doesn’t look that long, let me see.”
I pull out the dress from under the chair to show Chaeyoung how massive it was, until I realized…
“Is that a stain?” Chaeyoung points and laughs.
“Ahh! Don’t look! It’s just chocolate, I swear!”
I stuff the dress back under the chair, as I hate myself for forgetting why I stuffed it there in the first place.
Chaeyoung, still laughing, grabs my hand.
“So this is why I overheard Dahyun and Sana talking about a chocolate stain on my way over here. Relax Tzuyu, I don’t care about the stain.”
“It’s just so embarrassing…”
“It’s fine, it’s not the dress I’m marrying today, it’s the beautiful person wearing it.”
Chaeyoung pulls me in with her forehead touching mine, but suddenly as she leans in, I hear people talking outside.
“Wait! I think that’s Dahyun and Sana coming back from the bar!”
“Where am I supposed to go!?”
“I don’t know! Be anywhere but here!”
Panicking, I get up and toss Chaeyoung outside the door.
“Really Tzuyu!? You throw me to the one place they’re going to!?”
“Chaeyoung? What are you doing here?” Dahyun asks.
“OH! Umm…I just wanted to see Tzuyu for a second, but…she wouldn’t let me in.”
“Don’t worry it’s not you, it’s probably because of the chocolate st-OW!”
Dahyun steps on Sana’s foot before she can say any more.
“Because of the chocolate! She ate some bad chocolate earlier! That’s all. She’ll be ready for the ceremony, don’t worry about her.” Dahyun says as she makes a face at Sana for almost giving away what Chaeyoung already knew.
“Ah ok, feel better Tzuyu! I love you!” She says loud with a big smile.
“I love you too!” I yell back.
Chaeyoung walks away and Sana and Dahyun run inside the room.
“What took you guys so long!?” I yell.
“I’m sorry! We saw Mina and Momo on the way and Sana started talking too much with the bartender.”
“Hey! You’re the one that tried to find all the cameras in every room!”
“I did that just in case someone could see the stain if we can’t get it out! So don’t give me that! You and your margarita puns, they weren’t even funny!”
“Don’t lie! You always find cameras everywhere you go! Besides you’re just…salty.” Sana tries to hide her laughter.
“UGHHH.” Dahyun groans.
“C’mon Dahyun…Lime-n up!...HAHA.”
“UGHHHHHH WHY ARE WE DATING!?”
“BECAUSE YOU LOVE ME SILLY! AND MY PUNS TOO!”
“GUYS! HELLO!? THE STAIN!?” I yell to get these two to focus.
“Oh right! Sorry!” They say in unison.
Dahyun manages to dab the stain right off of the dress as if it was never there.
“See, good as new!” Sana says with a smile.
“Thanks guys.” I say with relief.
“Where would you be without me Chou Tzuyu?” Dahyun and Sana say together.
“Hey! That’s my line!” Dahyun yells.
“I know, you say it all the time, I just wanted to try it.” Sana smiles.
“You’re lucky you’re cute.” Dahyun sighs.
*knock knock*
“Come in!”
Yeri opens the door and walks in.
“Wow Tzuyu, you look stunning!” She says.
“Thanks Yeri, how’s Chaeyoung?”
“She seems pretty good, she went for a walk and when she came back she seemed happier than when she left. You wouldn’t know anything about that would you?”
“Huh? Umm no?” I try to say with a straight face.
“Anyway, it’s almost time to start the ceremony, are you ready?”
“Yeah, we’re ready, let’s go guys. Thanks for coming Yeri.” I get up and we all start to walk together.
“Of course, as the Maid of Honor, it’s my duty.” She smiles.
“Umm excuse me?” Dahyun says with disgust. “We talked about this Yeri, I’M the Maid of Honor, not you.”
“Well isn’t Tzuyu the one that proposed? That makes Chaeyoung the bride, and me the Maid of Honor.”
“Noooo, even if she did propose, Tzuyu is the one wearing the dress, which makes her the bride and ME the Maid of Honor.”
“Guys, technically aren’t they both the bride?” Sana says.
“Sana please... wait that actually makes sense.” Dahyun says in disbelief.
“You guys can both be the Maid of Honor, you two need to relax.” I say with a smile.
“Yeah besides, if Chaeyoung were a groom, Yeri would be the Best Maid!”
“There’s the Sana I know.” Dahyun laughs.
“And love!” Sana grabs Dahyun’s arm and smiles.
“Yeah yeah I know.” Dahyun smiles back.
We stop in front of the doorway and Yeri opens the door, waves goodbye, and walks through. Then Sana walks through, then Dahyun. I take a deep breath for one last time.
The door opens and I take my first few steps. I see everyone look at me and I can hear their gasps and their whispers saying I look beautiful and how wonderful my dress is. My dad gets up from his seat and takes my arm as we walk the rest of the way. I look up at him and smile and he smiles back. I hear the music playing and I can see Dahyun playing the piano in the front. She smiles at me and mouths, “You’re doing great sweetie.” knowing that would make me smile, and of course it did. I look up and there she is. The love of my life. I can feel the tears coming up, but I tell myself to calm down. My dad stop at the end of the aisle and tells me he’s proud of me. He sits down next to my mom who’s already crying. I tell myself to take another deep breath as I walk up the steps to Chaeyoung who looks even more beautiful than when I saw her before and I’m stuck here wondering how is that even possible. The officiant goes on to say how Chaeyoung and I met and I get all these flashbacks to all the things we went through. Meeting in high school, being apart, getting together, everything has come to this point. I sit here reminiscing and before I know it, it’s time for our vows. I move in front of Chaeyoung who takes a deep breath and looks into my eyes.
“Tzuyu. We’ve had a lot of ups and downs. To this very day, I regret all the bad things I have ever done to you. And you always say you forgive me, and I know you do, but I’ll never rest until I can be able to forgive myself. I always wondered, how can I possibly do that? Then I realized that the answer was in front of me the whole time. You. You’re the only thing that matters. If I can make you happy for the rest of your life, then everything will be perfect. From this day forward, I promise to never hurt you again. From this day forward, I promise to hold you dearly in my heart till the end of time. I told you before that you’re a blessing. I tell you that because it’s true. You’re a gift. You’re priceless. And I promise that I will work, as hard as possible, to be worthy of such a beautiful person. As of today, you will become my everything. My lover, my confidant, my best friend, and now my wife. I love you, and I will spend every day proving that to you.”
I can feel Chaeyoung’s hands shaking as she puts the ring on my finger and I can see a single tear fall down her face and I wipe it off as she smiles. My heart beats so fast, I can’t think straight anymore, especially after what I just heard.
“Tzuyu, are you ready for you vows?” the officiant asks.
I nod my head and take a deep breath because I can’t get myself to speak just yet. I look into to Chaeyoung’s eyes and hold her hands.
“I knew you were going to mention not forgiving yourself, you always do that. I told you, everything is ok, otherwise we wouldn’t be here Chaengie.” I smile.
I can hear the crowd laugh a little and I see Chaeyoung nod her head.
“Chaeyoung. Ever since the first moment I saw you, I knew that you were the most beautiful person in the world. You may think otherwise, but I’ll never let you change my mind. And saying I am the most beautiful person, and not you will get you nowhere. I had my heart set out on you from the very beginning. You were and still are my very first love. I didn’t know how to react. I didn’t know how to make the first move, or do anything to get your attention. I just did whatever I thought would work, thanks from a little help from Dahyun, and somehow, it worked. I got your attention. The more we hung out, the more I looked into your eyes and the more I felt you fingers interlope with mine, I knew that there was more to this, more to us, than just teenagers being young and stupid. This was love. To this day, I feel the same way. No wait, I don’t. I feel even more sure about it now, than I ever have before. Son Chaeyoung, I’m in love with you. I tried my best to come up with a more creative way to say it without saying love, but I can’t, because that’s just how I feel about you. When you hold my hand, when you look into my eyes, when you yell at me for making a mess, when you snore whenever you fall asleep on my shoulder, when you get mad whenever I make fun of you for being short, whenever you kiss me. I feel the same way every time, no matter what happens to us that will never change. Son Chaeyoung, you are my world.”
I put the ring on her finger, and now my hands are starting to shake. Chaeyoung and I look at each other and laugh.
“Do you, Son Chaeyoung, take Chou Tzuyu to be your wife?”
“I do.” She smiles.
“And do you, Chou Tzuyu, take Son Chaeyoung to be your wife?”
“I do.” I smile.
“You may now, kiss the bride.”
Today was the day, that I will always look at as the best day of my life, whenever I walk down Memory Lane.
The End

Memory Lane: Maybe It’s Better
Bonus Chapter: Datzu
“Hey you!”
The other girl turned around confused. I sat up on the desk next to her. I figured she needed some help making friends, she hadn’t talked to anyone all day.
“What’s your name kid?”
“Tzuyu, Tzuyu Chou.” She said quietly.
“I’m Dahyun Kim, we’re friends now ok?”
“Umm really?” She had a faint smile on her face that you could barely see, but it was there.
“Yeah of course! It’s the first day of school, but I haven’t seen you talk to anyone yet! You’re pretty shy huh?”
Tzuyu shakes her head a little and gives me this awkward look that made me laugh.
“Don’t worry, I’ll help you fix that! Where would you be without me Chou Tzuyu?”
“Umm it’s Tzuyu Chou.”
I get down from the desk and put my arm around her, “I know, but it sounds better that way don’t you think?”
On that first day of 6th grade Tzuyu Chou and I became best friends. My friendship with Tzuyu was very important to me. To me she was someone worth protecting from the world. I’d do anything for her, no matter what it was. If anyone messed with her, I made sure to make them regret it. On our last day as 8th graders, I went to Tzuyu’s house to sleepover, which we did every year. When I got to there, her mom opened the door and let me in.
“Is Tzuyu home?”
“Ah yes, she’s in her room, go ahead and let yourself in, I’m sure she’s not doing anything right now.”
“Ok thanks!”
I rushed over to Tzuyu’s room and opened the door.
“Yo Tzuyu I’m he-”
I saw Tzuyu laid out on her back on her bed knocked out.
“Seriously Tzuyu? It’s barely 5pm.” I laugh to myself.
I set my stuff down and walk over to the sleeping giant. I walk over slowly and look at her sleeping face. She looked so peaceful that I didn’t want to wake her. I find myself getting closer and closer to her face and with each inch my heart beats faster. Our faces end up so close that our noses touch. At this point my heart was beating so fast, that I couldn’t think straight. What was going on with me? I don’t even know what I’m doing, but I don’t want to stop. I close my eyes, but as soon as I do…
“AHH DAHYUN!”
Tzuyu jumps up and we bump heads.
“Ahh my head! Tzuyu why’d you have to jump up!?” Seriously why? Actually more importantly, what was I about to do?
“You’re the one that scared me! Talk about a rude awakening. Why would you even scare me like that? You couldn’t wake me up like a normal person?”
I most certainly wasn’t attempting to scare her. I think…I think I was close to kissing her. I didn’t tell Tzuyu what I was actually doing because I wasn’t exactly sure myself, so I just went along with her.
“C’mon, I just couldn’t resist your sleeping face haha.” At least I wasn’t lying.
“Anyway, what do you want to do?” She says as she rubs her forehead.
“The usual duh.” I say rubbing mine.
We spent that night doing what we usually do, eating food and watching kdramas, but I couldn’t stop this lingering feeling. I never put much thought into it after that day, and next thing you know we were high school freshman. So far the year was pretty good and high school wasn’t so bad, until one day Tzuyu came up to me in class.
“Dahyun! You’ll never guess what happened yesterday!”
Tzuyu had been over at a family friend’s house, she didn’t really like it there because the kids go crazy.
“What did you get beat up by some kids?” I chuckle.
“No! Chaeyoung added me on Facebook! Or I added her rather, but she accepted!”
Chaeyoung was one of the most popular girls in school, she was stunning and talented. I had no idea she even knew who Tzuyu was. Suddenly I started getting this uneasy feeling.
“No way! What did you message her!?” I ask cautiously.
Tzuyu tells me that she didn’t message Chaeyoung anything and the uneasy feeling starts to fade away. I tell her jokingly that she should message Chaeyoung and tell her she wants to get to know her better, knowing Tzuyu, she would be too shy to do that sort of thing, but then at school the next day…
“No way. I don’t believe it.” I said shocked.
“It’s true! She’s so fun to talk to! Why don’t you believe me!?”
It’s not that I didn’t really believe her, Tzuyu isn’t one to lie. It’s more like I didn’t want to believe her. Suddenly I hear a voice coming from the hall.
“Tzuyu! Hey Tzuyu!”
I look over at the door and Chaeyoung is there jumping and waving her hands in the hallway.
“Wow.” I let out in disbelief.
“What?” Tzuyu asks as she waves at the door.
“Seeing really is believing. She really likes you too.”
The uneasy feeling I had yesterday came right back.
“What? No way, we barely started talking.”
I look at Tzuyu, shocked at how she can be so naïve.
“No one just yells out a person’s name after they just met, unless they really like them.”
Our teacher comes in and I’m stuck with myself daydreaming in class. Chaeyoung is pretty and talented and so is Tzuyu. What would I do if they started dating? The thought of it sends shivers down my spine. Why am I even feeling this way? After class finishes, I see Tzuyu and Chaeyoung talking to each other by the lockers and I quickly walked passed them. I didn’t know what to feel, but I knew I wasn’t happy. Later that week I’m over at Tzuyu’s house and somehow Chaeyoung comes up, much to my dismay. I look at the way Tzuyu talks about her and how wide her smile goes and I can’t help but wonder if Tzuyu has ever talked about me with a look like that on her face.
“She really makes you happy doesn’t she?” I ask.
“Yeah she does, I’m always looking forward to school because I know I’m going to see her.”
My heart aches a little as I hear that, and I wonder, did you not look forward to seeing me, your best friend? I dismissed the thought because I know how Tzuyu feels about me. Of course she would look forward to seeing her best friend. Best friends. Right.
“Hmm so…”
“So…what?” Tzuyu asks.
“When are you going to ask her out?” I ask sarcastically.
I take a look at Tzuyu who starts acting flustered. Does the thought of asking out Chaeyoung really get her that excited?
“Do…do you really think I should?” She asks.
“TZUYU!” I yell out.
I tell her all the reasons that she should go for it, because it is so obvious that they like each other that the fact that they’re not already dating was frustrating me. Or was that really the reason? Yes, of course it is, I need to be a supportive best friend and help Tzuyu get what she wants and what will make her happy. That’s what would make me happy, right?
“… you know what? I’m gonna ask her out.” She says.
“Wait… really!?“
She nods her head with a smile.
“Yes! That’s my girl! When and how are you gonna do it huh?”
“I…I have no idea…help me Dahyun!” I cry out.
“Where would you be without me Chou Tzuyu?”
“You know you always say that, but honestly, I don’t know where I would be without you Dahyun. You’re the best.”
“I know I am, maybe you should just date me, I know everything you need.” I kid.
I look over at Tzuyu who stopped talking.
“We’d make a pretty good couple wouldn’t we?” She laughs.
The thought of it makes me smile.
“Nah, never mind that sounds so weird!” Tzuyu laughs.
And it’s gone.
“Yeah weird!” I try to laugh, but nothing comes out.
The rest of the night we go over ways Tzuyu will ask out Chaeyoung and I see the smiles and hear the laughs coming from Tzuyu and I tell myself, as long as she’s happy that’s what matters. The day Tzuyu is supposed to ask out Chaeyoung, I decide to sit and wait for her at school. I wanted to know how things went right away. Soon I see Tzuyu and Chaeyoung come back to the school and I notice Chaeyoung is walking further away as Tzuyu just stands there. I run over to Tzuyu to see what happened.
“Well!? How’d it go!? I’ve been waiting here this whole time. She said yes right? Where is she going?”
“She…she didn’t say yes…”
As soon as those words leave her mouth, tears start rolling down her eyes.
“She said no!? What!? Hold up Tzuyu, I’ll be right back. I’m going to give her a piece of my mind. Maybe even a piece of my fist we’ll see.”
I was furious, how could someone be so stupid to reject Tzuyu? And to hurt her to the point she cries? I wasn’t going to let her get away with it.
“No! Dahyun stop!” Tzuyu grabs my arm and pulls me back.
“Why!? She hurt you didn’t she!”
“No! She didn’t reject me.”
“What are you talking about? Then why are you crying?”
“I don’t know why. I…I…just couldn’t do it.”
I was confused, but I just sat down with Tzuyu and hugged her as she cried.
“I couldn’t do it Dahyun…why couldn’t I do it?”
I was so worried about Tzuyu, but at the same time, I felt…relieved. Part of me didn’t really want her to go through with it. I wasn’t sure what a future without Tzuyu always with me was going to be like, but now as I see Tzuyu here in tears, I instantly regret this feeling of relief. All I want is to help her.
“Ok well, what are you going to do now?” I ask.
“I’m not sure, I definitely want to tell Chaeyoung how I feel, but maybe not right now. I’m scared I’ll freeze up again.”
“Are you sure? Freshman year is almost over. What if you don’t get another chance?”
“Oh that’s right, finals are soon too.”
The frustration on her face was clear. I could tell how badly she wanted to express her feelings to Chaeyoung.
“Maybe tell her after finals. It should give you enough time to sort your feelings out and maybe we’ll be able to come up with a better plan this time. Sound good?”
“I don’t think I have any other choice.”
When I wasn’t studying I was thinking of ways to help Tzuyu out. Whenever I wasn’t doing that I was thinking about how I could help myself. Why do I feel so uneasy when I see Chaeyoung and Tzuyu together, or when Tzuyu starts talking about her? I don’t hate Chaeyoung at all, in fact, if I would totally date her myself. Was I jealous of Tzuyu? No, that’s not it, she deserves to be happy. I started to think again how a future with Tzuyu spending more time with Chaeyoung would mean spending less time with me. Was I afraid of losing Tzuyu? She wouldn’t leave me alone would she? I decide to dismiss all these thoughts and go back to studying. Besides, Tzuyu and I have been best friends for years, nothing would ever change that. After finals were over I left my class quickly to go find Tzuyu. I looked all over for her and eventually I found her in the sitting by herself on a bench.
“Tzuyu!” I yell out.
She looks up from her phone with and expressionless face and drops her head back down.
“What happened? Were you able to do it this time?”
“I didn’t even get the chance. I tried to find her, but I couldn’t get to her in time.”
“What? That doesn’t make sense school hasn’t even been over for fifteen minutes yet, how could she be gone already?”
“She left early to go on vacation.”
Tzuyu passes me her phone and I read all the texts Chaeyoung sent her.
“CHOU TZUYU!” I yell out, “I thought I told you to stop turning off your phone while studying! What if there’s an emergency!?”
“Dahyun this was finals! I had to!” She says trying to defend herself.
“Tzuyu you are a genius, you could study for hour and know more than I could if I studied the whole day. And now tell me, was it worth it?” I look at her sternly.
“No, I don’t think so.” She says depressed.
“C’mon let’s get some ice cream.” I reach out my hand.
“Ok.” She grabs my hand and gets up.
After that, Tzuyu tried countless times to contact Chaeyoung over the summer, but nothing ever came out of it. I visit her one day and find her sulking under the covers.
“She’s probably hurt still and doesn’t want to talk to you. What if she never does? You have to move on and get out and have fun, its summer!” I tell her to try to get her out of bed, “There’s a party I got invited to, let’s go! They have a pool, it should be awesome!”
Tzuyu peaks her head out of the blanket.
“A pool?” She asks intrigued.
“Yupp! My mom can give us a ride, let’s go!” I jump on the bed and try to pull the blanket off.
“Ok! Ok! Dahyun, I’ll go, now stop you’re tickling me!” She laughs.
“I know I am!” I laugh back.
I manage to rip the blanket off her and throw it up in the air. The blanket lands on top of us as we continue to laugh. Tzuyu finally gets me off her and grabs me and holds me tight. I look up and Tzuyu is looking down on me smiling. Her sweet smile, which I haven’t seen in so long, makes me smile back.
“Are you a little happy now Tzuyu?” I ask.
“A little. Thanks to you.”
“Where would you be without me Chou Tzuyu?” I say laughing.
Tzuyu laughs and smiles again and pulls me in tighter and my mind travels back to that time in 8th grade and my heart starts beating fast. I don’t want Tzuyu to feel my heart beating this fast, because I have no idea how I would explain it to her. I wriggle out of her grasp and try to get out of the blanket.
“Oh no! You’re not escaping that easily! You think you can just attack me in my own house and get away with it unpunished?” She says, and she pulls me back in.
Tzuyu holds me from behind and rests her head on my shoulder.
“I don’t know.” She says.
“What?”
“I don’t know where I’d be without you Kim Dahyun.” She says as she rests her head on mine.
Those words make my heart beat even faster and I can’t take it anymore. I manage to wriggle myself out again and finally get off the bed.
“Are you ok?” She asks.
“Yeah it was…it was just getting a little hot on the bed that’s all.”
Well, I wasn’t lying.
“Oh ok, so when is this party?”
“Tonight. My mom and I can come pick you up later if you want.” I say trying to keep my head straight.
“Alright sounds good! Are you leaving now then?”
“Yeah I probably should, I need to get myself ready too.”
The next day I wake up with a terrible headache. I look around and find myself in my room, but I don’t remember how I got here. I look at the floor and I see Tzuyu sleeping. I guess, we were too tired after the party and knocked out. What is with this headache though? I head downstairs to find some aspirin. I take a couple and wash it down with some water. As I put the cup down, I spit out my water as I suddenly remember what went down last night.
Hours earlier…
“Dahyun! Where are you!?” Tzuyu yells.
“HEY YODA FACE! WHAT’S GOOD!?”
She turns around and sees me on top of a chair dancing around.
“Dahyun what are you doing!? Get down!”
I get down and take a sip of whatever it was in my cup.
“Are you drinking!?” Tzuyu yells.
“Of course I’m drinking, what else do you do with liquid in a cup Tzuyu? Tzuyu did you lose your jams again? You should go find them.” I laugh out loud like I just said the joke of the year.
“You know what I mean Dahyun.”
She grabs the cup from my hands and takes a sip and spits it out.
“Ok yeah that’s definitely alcohol. Where did you even get this?”
“I heard someone spiked the punch. Looks like your friend can’t hang huh?” Some random person says and laughs.
“Shut up and move.” Tzuyu says angry.
“SHUT UP AND GROOOOOVE!” I say as I dance around some more.
“How much did you even drink Dahyun?”
“I don’t know, two, three, seven cups?”
“SEVEN CUPS!? Really!?”
“It might’ve been three.” I shrug.
Tzuyu drags me to the couch nearby and sits me down.
“I’m texting your mom to pick us up, give me your phone.”
“Only if you sit next to me beautiful.” I wink at her.
“Fine.” She says as she rolls her eyes.
She sits down next to me and I lay on her lap. I reach into my pocket and hand her my phone.
“Alright it’s done, she said she’ll be here soon. I pretended to be you so she doesn’t know you’re drunk so try to act natural when you see her.” She pleads.
“I love you Tzuyu.”
“Yeah, after all this, you better love me.” She laughs.
“No Tzuyu, like I think I’m in love with you.” I say with a serious face.
“Dahyun you’re drunk. Shut up.” She laughs slowly.
“I think I’ve loved you for a long time. I just didn’t want to(hic)admit it to my(hic)self, because I don’t know how you feel about me.” I say.
“Dahyun you’re so drunk you’re hiccupping.” She laughs some more.
“TZUYU I MEAN IT! I’M IN LOVE WIT-“ I yell out until Tzuyu covers my mouth.
“Ok I get it! Don’t be so loud!” She says, “Why do you love me Dahyun, tell me.”
“I love everything. I love your smile, I love the way your hair falls down your face when you study and then you have to place it behind your cute ears, I love how you’re quiet around new people, but when you get to know them you care for them with all your heart, I love how you and I can be so different yet whenever I’m with you we can laugh and smile just the same. I love all of you Tzuyu, I love you so much that I was willing to give you to Chaeyoung if it meant that you would be happy. If the person you love is happy that means you will be right? (hic)”
Tzuyu keeps quiet for a while and just looks at me as I hiccup away some more.
“Dahyun I-“
Bzzz~
Tzuyu picks up my phone.
“Your mom is here let’s go.” She says quietly.
“MAMAAAAA JUST KILLED A MAN! DIDN’T MEAN TO MAKE YOU CRYYYYY!”
“Dahyun shut up!”
“Oh god.” I tell myself as I rub my head, “What do I do?”
I look at the stairs and wonder if Tzuyu has woken up yet. Suddenly, I hear footsteps coming down. I hide behind the counter praying it’s not Tzuyu. I peek over a little and it’s my mom.
“Oh it’s just you mom.” I take a sigh of relief.
“It’s just me?” My mom says with a stern face.
“Uh oh.” I say scared.
“Uh huh, that’s more like it. Don’t think I don’t know you were drinking last night.”
“How could you tell?” I ask reluctantly.
“I could smell it all over your breath while you sang Bohemian Rhapsody all the way home.”
I slam my head on the counter as I’m reminded of another terrible thing I did last night.
“I guess I should go home now huh?”
I look over at the stairs and see Tzuyu walking down with her things.
“You can stay for breakfast if you want Tzuyu, you deserve a reward. At least I know that at least ONE of you can be responsible.” My mom says.
“No it’s fine Mrs. Kim, my mom will be here any second now anyway. I’ll see myself out, bye Dahyun!” Tzuyu heads toward the door.
“Wait Tzuyu!” I yell out.
But the door slams shut before I could say anything else. My mom grounds me and keeps me in my room for the rest of the summer. The only person I can have over is Tzuyu, every time I ask her if she can come over she says she has something to do. Finally after a couple of weeks of solitary confinement, my mom decides to go easy on me and lets me free for the final week of summer. I call Tzuyu and tell her about my newly found freedom.
“Let’s do something! Umm but, no more parties, I don’t think I’m ready for that.” I laugh.
“Yeah sure! Just let me know what you want to do! By the way…do you remember anything from that night? Like maybe something you said or did?”
Oh no what do I do? Should I pretend like I don’t remember and just act like nothing happened? Or should I tell her with a clear mind how I feel?
“Umm you know…I remember calling you Yoda face or something like that?”
“Huh? Oh right, you did didn’t you?” She laughs.
“Yeah sorry about that.” I laugh a little.
“Do you remember anything else?” She asks slowly.
“Yeah, you know what apparently I know all the words to Bohemian Rhapsody! Who knew?” I laugh trying to stall.
“I know right! But yeah…nothing else?”
“No…I don’t think so…did I say something strange?”
“Nope! Not really! Just wondering what you remembered that’s all!” Tzuyu yells out.
“Ok good!” I yell back.
“Anyway, let’s go to the World Festival this weekend! I want to try all the new food they’re going to have this year.”
Every year Tzuyu and I go to the World Festival and try out all the different food we’ve never tried before.
“Of course! My mom lifted my punishment right on time, I am so excited.”
“Yeah so am I! I’ll see you this weekend then!” She says before she hangs up.
I wonder if Tzuyu really believed that I don’t remember what happened?  Either way I decided to just have as much fun as possible this weekend. Tzuyu and I meet up at the festival and start walking around. We look all over for new food we haven’t tried before.
“Oh Tzuyu look!” I run over to a Swiss chocolate stall, “They have little Charlie Chaplin shoes! They’re so cute!”
“Yeah you’re right! I hear Swiss chocolate is delicious, we should get some!”
We end up getting a bunch of chocolate shoes, and they actually were quite delicious.
“Oh my god, Dahyun look! Is that tofu!?” Tzuyu runs over to a Filipino stall.
“Excuse me!” I call the cashier over, “Is that tofu?”
“Yes it is! It’s called Taho, it’s sitting in brown sugar.”
“Is it good?” Tzuyu asks, “I like buying her delicious tofu things because she reminds me of tofu.”
Tzuyu then proceeds to pull my cheek.
“See look! Dubu dubuun~” She says laughing.
The cashier starts laughing and I rip Tzuyu’s hand off of me.
“Yes it’s very good, would you like to try some?” The cashier offers.
“Oh yes please!” I say.
The cashier pours some of the Taho in a little cup. I take a sip with a bite of tofu and I find out the tofu is softer than I thought! The brown sugar tasted so good with the tofu, it was a food combination I never thought would work well before.
“This is so good! Tzuyu do you like it?” I look over to her.
Tzuyu is just staring at me with a smile on her face.
“Tzuyu? You didn’t try your Taho yet!” I say confused.
“Oh right!” she takes a quick sip, “Oh it’s hot! Ahh! But it’s good though!”
“How much for a medium size?” I ask eagerly.
“A medium? Twenty dollars.” He says smiling.
“Really? Twenty dollars? Wooow expensive.” I say wincing.
“I’m kidding.” The cashier laughs, “It’ll be five dollars.”
“Oh good! You scared me for a second there.” I laugh.
“You’re way too gullible Dahyun. Also look right above you.” Tzuyu point at the menu above the cashier, that has all the prices on it.
The cashier laughs and Tzuyu joins him.
“Shut up, you should’ve told me when I asked how much it was!” I say pouting as I pay for the food.
“Ok, you’re right I’m sorry.” Tzuyu says laughing.
Tzuyu and I sit down and eat our Taho pretty quickly. I never thought just tofu and brown sugar could be so filling, but then I remember all the chocolate I had earlier.
“It’s dark already huh?” Tzuyu mentions.
I look around and she’s right. I get up and throw away the trash.
“I should really head home soon, my mom may have taken away the grounding, but she raised my curfew.”
“Dahyun wait, I want to talk to you about the party.”
I was scared that this was going to happen, but I guess if not today it was going to happen eventually.
“What about the party?” I ask.
“The truth is…you said some stuff to me that night that got me thinking.”
“I know I did.” I say quietly.
“It really caught me off gua- wait you remember?” Tzuyu says surprised.
“Yeah, I actually remembered the morning after, I was just…embarrassed I guess.”
“Oh, I see.”
There’s an awkward silence surrounding us. Tzuyu and I glimpse at each other and every time we make eye contact we would look away. Finally, I have had enough with the silence.
“Tzuyu listen, I was drunk and out of control that night. Don’t worry about it and you can just forget everything I said that night. We can just stay friends ok? I just want us to stay the same as usual ok?”
Tzuyu is still silent.
“I’ll take that as a yes. So yeah, let’s go ho-.”
“What if I don’t that? What if I don’t want to forget what you said to me that night? I know you were drunk, but if you weren’t, would you have ever told me your feelings?”
“I wasn’t even sure if I knew what those feelings were exactly. Tzuyu you’re my best friend, I didn’t want to risk losing you no matter what.”
“Dahyun you would never lose me. Honestly, I’ve been thinking about all the things you told me that night. Like how you like the way I smile, and the way my hair falls down on my face and when I place it behind my ears, and how we’re so different but when we’re together we can smile just the same.”
“You remembered all of that?”
“Of course I did, it meant a lot to me. I did a lot of thinking and with all the drama with Chaeyoung, through all this pain and misery there was one person who helped me every step of the way. That was you. Dahyun, I do love you, I really do.”
Hearing those words sent my mind and my heart for a spin. I had no idea how to react.
“But…”
Oh.
“I don’t know if I’m IN love with you.”
“I get it…” I say disappointed.
“But…”
Oh great another one, what now?
“That doesn’t mean I can’t get there.”
Now my mind and heart are spinning again, but out of pure confusion.
“Tzuyu, what are you talking about?”
Tzuyu gets up and pulls me close and kisses me on the forehead.
“I don’t know what this feeling is, I’m still figuring myself out. I don’t know where I’d be without you Dahyun. You’ve helped me with everything for as long as I can remember. If there was one person that I would want to show me how to fall in love, I choose you. Make me love you Kim Dahyun.”
Four Years Later…
“Dahyun c’mon! Stop being afraid!” Tzuyu yells.
“No! They’re scary! I’m not going!” I scream.
“You promised that if I was able to stay away from chocolate longer than you we’d get a puppy!” She pouts.
“Ok, but that’s not fair! It was just one ChocoPie!” I cry out, “You know animals scare me!”
“But these are just cute little puppies! Dahyun please!”
I slowly walk closer to Tzuyu as one of the shelter volunteers hands her a small dog.
“I guess it’s kind of cute.” I say from a safe distance.
“She’s so sweet! Here Dahyun hold her!” Tzuyu smiles.
I look at Tzuyu’s eyes and then at the puppies eyes and I just can’t resist either one of them. I grab the puppy and stretch it as far away as possible.
“Dahyun! Hold her!” Tzuyu yells.
“Ok fine!”
I pull the puppy closer slowly, and it’s actually really soft and cuddly. I sit down on the couch with Tzuyu as I hold the puppy and I don’t ever want to let her go.
“So…not so bad right?” Tzuyu smiles as she nudges me.
“This one, this is ok I guess.” I smile as the puppy naps in my arms, “Can we keep her?”
Tzuyu and I laugh at my sudden turn around.
“Yay! What should we name her?” she asks.
“I’ve never had a pet before so you can do it.” I hesitate.
“Gucci! I like that it’s cute!” She says happily.
“Ok that’s fine with me, I would have just called her pup.”
“Where would you be without me Kim Dayhun?”
“Hey that’s my line!”

Forever Mine- Satzu Oneshot
“No peeking! Got it!?” Sana screams.
I had no idea where she was taking me. She had me blindfolded even in the car, and now we were walking somewhere I had no clue.
“Tzuyu! Are you peeking!?” She yells out.
“No, Sana I’m not! This blindfold is impenetrable I assure you.”
“Ok good!” She says happily.
I don’t have to see to know that she has a stupidly huge smile on her face right now.
“We’re almost there, I’ll take the blindfold off in a second.”
“Ugh yes finally.” I sigh in relief.
“Ok, here we are!”
As Sana raises the blindfold off my eyes a bright light hits my face. Once my eyes get to adjust to the light, after being temporarily blind for a while, I take a look at the surroundings. I’m in a park, but it seems familiar.
“Happy anniversary!” Sana says with her hands in the air.
“Haha happy anniversary Sana. Where are we? Is this a park?”
“Yupp, but it’s not just any park, look around, you’ll figure it out.”
My eyes scan the area and I see a bench where Sana sits down.
“Oh my gosh.” I say shocked.
“Do you remember now?” Sana smiles.
“This is where we first met, the exact spot.”
~
My mind goes back to that time, I remember I was walking my dog Gucci, as I passed by Sana as she was sitting on the very same bench.
“Excuse me, can I pet your dog? It’s so cute!”
“Yeah of course! The name’s Gucci by the way.”
“Your name is Gucci?” Sana says puzzled.
“No no that’s my dog’s name. My name is Tzuyu.”
“Ahhh that makes more sense! I’m Sana! Nice to meet you!”
~
“Yupp! You’re right!”
“You were totally judging me, when I told you my dog’s name was Gucci.”
“And you were totally judging me when I thought it was your name at first!”
“Yes of course! Why would you even think that!?”
“Well you said it like you were referring to yourself ok!”
“You know what made me judge you even more?”
“Ok, what’s that?” She asks.
“How you could ask for my number literally right after.”
“Alright, well I could make the argument that I could judge you more for actually giving it to me.”
“I…umm…so where are we going now!?”
“That’s right Tzuyu change the subject!” Sana laughs, then she grabs my hand and runs, “We go this way!”
“Wait what about the car!?” I ask frantically.
“Don’t worry about it! C’mon!”
Sana whisks me away and we run across the park laughing. We make it to the other side of the park and we stop running to catch our breath.
“Ok Sana, spit it out, where are you taking me?” I say slowly.
“Right over there.” Sana points to a building across the street and I can’t believe my eyes.
“Isn’t that where we had our first date?” I say shocked, “I had no idea it was this close from the park where we first met!”
“Right!? Me neither!” Sana exclaims, “C’mon let’s go!”
Sana grabs my hand again and we run across the street and into the building. Bright lights and various sounds fill the atmosphere.
“Wow nothing about this arcade has changed at all, everything is right where it was just like the last time we were here.” I say astonished.
“I’ll challenge you to another round of air hockey if you want! Maybe I’ll even let you win this time!” Sana quickly runs away and heads to the air hockey tables.
“Ok look! You only won last time because you cheated!”
~
“Ok, are you ready?”I ask.
“Ready to win? ALWAYS.” Sana smiles confidently.
“Wow cocky much?” I scoff.
“Just go Chou.” Sana smirks.
I serve and the game starts. It was probably the most intense game of air hockey anyone has ever seen. We must have went 3 minutes without scoring at all. It felt like whoever scored first was definitely going to own the game. I hit the puck and Sana misses completely and I land the first point.
“HA!” I say confidently, “This just might be my day, not so cocky now huh Sana?”
“It’s just one point Tzuyu, don’t get too cocky now yourself!”
Sana grabs the puck and quickly hits it, without me realizing, she landed a point. I look at Sana in awe and see that the score was tied almost immediately. Sana gives me a wink and I knew this game was going to be fun. We went back and forth for 5 more points and we were tied 6 to 6, game point.
“Your serve Chou, do you think you have what it takes?” Sana says trying to intimidate me.
“To beat you? This is nothing, you don’t scare me Minatozaki.”
I hit the puck as hard as I could but Sana catches it like it was nothing.
“Hey! You got to hit the puck not catch it! What are you doing!?”
“I just wanted to say that you look beautiful tonight and this is the best date I’ve ever been on.”
Taken aback by the sudden statement I didn’t know how to reply, after all this was our first date. Before I knew it, Sana had hit the puck into my goal and won the game.
“Wait! Did you say that just to distract me!? Cheater!”
~
“Ok look, for the record, I did mean every word I said that time. So it’s not like I lied or anything.” Sana smiles.
“Whatever, it’s not happening again. Let’s go Minatozaki.”
We start the game just like last time and we go back and forth, going minutes without scoring, although, this game felt much harder than the last.
“Have you been practicing Sana?” I ask trying to stay focused.
“Maybe? Or maybe you got worse? Which I don’t understand how that could be possible because you were already pretty bad to begin with.” Sana laughs.
“Oh! So it’s going to be like that huh!?” I scoff, “Well if I’m so bad…” I hit the puck off the side and it lands into Sana’s goal, “…how do you explain that?”
Sana smiles and grabs the puck and quickly hit it into my own goal before I can react, déjà vu much?
“This is looking a lot like last time.” I laugh.
“Yupp, it’s going to end up like last time too, with my victory.”
“Oh yeah? We’ll see!” I grab the puck and we keep playing.
And just like last time we were going head to head and the game was extremely close.
“Gotcha!” Sana yells, “All tied up!”
I grab the puck and set it on the table.
“Game point.” I take a deep breath.
“Hey Tzuyu.”
I look up and Sana has a serious look on her face.
“What is it Sana?”
“I just wanted to say that-“
Before she can get another word in I look towards the goal and hit the puck straight in.
“Hey! I wasn’t done talking!” Sana says shocked.
“No no, you were not about to distract me with your words again Sana.”
“I want a rematch!”
“Nope! I won fair and square, besides you didn’t give me a rematch last time!”
Sana looks at me with a sad face.
“Nope, that pout won’t work on me.” I say and walk away.
“Ugh fiiiine, anyway, I ‘m starving how about you?” Sana says as she catches up to me and latches onto my arm.
“Yeah winning really made me work up an appetite.”
“Haha you’re so funny.” Sana leers.
“Hey, we left the car all the way on the other side of the park, are we really going to go all the way back over there?”
“I told you I not to worry it right?” Sana says as she opens up the door.
I look outside and I see our car right in front of the arcade doors.
“Wait…how did our car get here?”
“I have my ways.” Sana winks.
“You know you’re being really secretive today.”
“Am I? I haven’t noticed.” She smiles.
“Anyway I’m hungry, where do you want to eat?”
“Oh I already have reservations.”
“What? Really? To where?”
“You’ll see, maybe it’s just another one of my secrets for today.”
I get in the passenger seat and watch as Sana drives, trying to figure out where she’s taking me. As Sana turns the corner I see a restaurant that I know we’ve been to before, but I just can’t remember when.
“We’ve been here before right?” I ask.
“Yupp! I bet you don’t remember when huh?” Sana snickers.
“What’s so funny? What are you up to Sana?”
Sana parks in front of the restaurant and smiles at me.
“Ohhh nothing. You’ll see.” She smiles.
Worried, I get out of the car and follow her inside.
“Ahh Ms. Minatozaki and Ms. Chou I presume?”
“That’s us!” Sana exclaims.
“Good to see you again ladies, I trust this time we will certainly suit your tastes.”
“I sure hope you do, it’s our anniversary today.” Sana proclaims.
“Ahh! Well congratulations to you both, we shall provide you some celebratory champagne on the house!”
“Oh you don’t have to do that!” I didn’t really think we’d be getting any special treatment.
“Oh no, I insist!”
“Yeah Tzuyu, he insists!”
“Well, alright. Sana you just want free stuff.”
“Of course, what’s wrong with free champagne?”
I can’t find an argument to that so I just go along. We get to our seats, and again it seems oddly familiar.
“Is this where we sat down last time?” I ask.
“Indeed it is, Ms. Minatozaki was quite adamant in having this area specifically.”
“And why is that Sana?”
“I’m sure you’ll remember by desert time.” Sana says mysteriously.
We sit down, and I keep looking around the area wondering what was so familiar. A waiter walks by and I stop him.
“Excuse me, we don’t have any menus.”
“Ahh we were already told your orders before you got here I believe.”
“What?”
“Sorry Tzuyu I forgot to mention, I ordered beforehand haha.”
“What? Ok, now I’m really worried, what if you get something I don’t like?’
“Cut me some slack huh? We’ve been dating for a while now I think I would know what kind of food you want.”
“Ok, I’ll trust you.”
“That’s right! Haha” She scoffs.
A few minutes later our food arrives.
“Hello ladies, ok we have our fresh lobster for Ms. Minatozaki.”
“Yay!” Sana yells out.
“And some lightly seared chicken breast, with stewed vegetables for Ms. Chou.”
“Oh! This is what I had last time!”
“So you finally remember this place Tzuyu?”
“Yes of course! This is where we had our first fight!”
“Exactly!”
The crowd around us, has a few confused faces as if wondering why we would come to the place where we had our first fight.
“Wait Sana, why would you bring me here of all places?”
“Because our first fight was hilarious!” She laughs.
“Wait, what was it about again?” I ask still a little confused.
“Don’t worry, just wait till desert.”
“I don’t think I can eat my food while being this confused.”
“That’s fine, I’ll eat it!” Sana reaches over to my plate with her fork, but I smack it away with my own.
“I was being sarcastic, I’m still hungry Sana.”
“Oh, yeah I knew that.” Sana pouts.
I can’t help it whenever she gives me that face so I give her a piece of my chicken.
“Yay! Love you!” Sana exclaims.
“Hey, that wasn’t free, give me a piece of lobster silly.”
“Of course!” Sana cuts a piece of  lobster for me, not before measuring it exactly to the piece of chicken which she does all the time whenever we share food, and I can’t help but laugh.
“What’s so funny?” Sana says with a confused face again.
“Nothing, I just think you’re the cutest person alive.” I smile.
“Really?” Sana smiles.
“Yes of course.” I take a bite of my chicken and smile.
As we eat I still can’t figure out what we were arguing about in this restaurant so long ago. Soon desert comes, and I get excited because I’m hoping Sana was able to get my favorite chocolate cake.
“Here we go ladies, we have strawberry cheesecake for Ms. Minatozaki and chocolate cheesecake for Ms. Chou, please enjoy.”
“Sana, I’m so happy! You actually got me chocolate cak…wait this is chocolate CHEESEcake?”
Suddenly I remember everything.
~
“So Tzuyu what do you want for desert?” Sana asks.
“I don’t know, this restaurant is so good, I’m sure anything would be great.”
“Ok, how about some cheesecake!”
“Oh god no anything but that.”
“What? What do you have against cheesecake Tzuyu?”
“I mean you can order it if you want, but don’t even think about a kiss later.”
“Woah! I didn’t know you hated cheesecake so intensely! Why do you hate it so much?”
“I’m just a firm believer that cheese and cake should stay away from each other that’s all.”
“Have you even tried it before Tzuyu? You’re reasoning is a little flawed haha.”
“No I haven’t and I never will!”
“Oh c’mon if I order it will you at least try it?”
“Sana I told you don’t want it!”
~
“Sana I told you I hate cheesecake!”
“Haha you remember!” Sana laughs.
“Of course I remember! You actually ordered cheesecake that night and tried to shove it down my throat!”
“Ok, first you’re over exaggerating, I did not shove it down your throat, I simply tried to make you taste it.”
“How could they even put something as heavenly as chocolate in a cheesecake? I didn’t even know that was possible.” I say as a tear falls down my face.
“Just try it Tzuyu please? It’s our anniversary, can you just do it for me?”
I look at the cheesecake and take a deep breath.
“Ok fine, you’re lucky it’s chocolate.”
Sana has a huge smile on her face. I on the other hand am dreading this moment. I take a piece with my fork and slowly take a bite…and…it’s actually not that bad. Actually it’s really good, but I can’t let Sana know this, I’ll never hear the end of it.
“Well? How is it?” Sana looks at me with big eyes.
“It’s ok, I guess.” I try to hide a smile, because it actuality it’s delicious and I want to take another bite.
“Liar! You love it don’t you!” Sana laughs, “You can take another bite you know, I know you want to.”
I look at the chocolate cheesecake and I can’t help it anymore and I just take another bite. I have no regrets.
“Fine, you win Sana, it’s delicious.”
“See! You just had to taste it before you judge it!” Sana says looking content.
“Yeah yeah ok.” I reach for another bite but I look down and it’s all gone, and I pout.
“Do you want another one Tzuyu?” Sana asks with a smile.
“Yes please.” I say with a big smile.
After dinner we walk outside the restaurant where they have this huge courtyard.
“This place looks familiar too doesn’t it Tzuyu?” Sana whispers in my ear.
“Ahh! Don’t do that! You scared me! And yes, it does, I remember after we fought I went out here to calm down.”
Sana walks towards the fountain in the center of the courtyard and sits down.
“Do you remember what happened after you came out here?”
“Of course, that moment I could never forget.
~
“Tzuyu! Tzuyu where are you? I’m sorry!”
I sat down under the moonlight on the edge of the fountain trying to calm down.
“Tzuyu is that you?”
“Yes it’s me.”
“Are you still mad? I’m sorry I tried to force you to eat cheesecake, I promise I won’t do it again.”
“It’s fine, it was something stupid anyway.”
“Can I sit next to you?” Sana asks.
“Yeah, plenty of room.” I say.
We look up into the night sky and see the stars with the water from the fountain pouring behind us. Everything just felt so tranquil. I look over to Sana and she’s looking back at me. I look into her eyes and it looks as if they’re getting bigger and bigger and before I knew it they were right in front of less than an inch away from mine.
“Tzuyu I-“
Before Sana can say anything else I close my eyes and lean in closer and kiss her. This was our first kiss. Who would’ve thought our first kiss would happen before our first fight? But that didn’t matter to me, what mattered was that this kiss, this moment felt perfect. It was in this moment that I realized, even though Sana was pushy and irritating at times. I loved her.
~
“This was where we had our first kiss.” I smile.
“Yupp, this place means a lot to me. That’s why I wanted to come back here today. I even made this reservation weeks in advance to makes sure we had that table, just like last time.”
“Wow, so thorough.” I laugh.
I take a seat next to Sana under the same fountain.
“Want to know something else Sana?”
“What is it?”
“That night was when I realized that I loved you.” I turn to her and smile.
“Oh wow really? You didn’t tell me until later on though.”
“Well yeah, I wasn’t going to tell you right away! What if you didn’t feel the same? I couldn’t live with the embarrassment if you didn’t.”
“Haha I see, that’s true. You do know that I love though right?” Sana smiles.
“Of course I do, I love you too Sana.”
This time I’m the one that leans in closer, stopping just about an inch away from her face. Sana moves in on that last inch and kisses me and my heart beats just as fast as it did since that first kiss in this very same place.
“Do you want to know when I realized I loved you?” Sana asks.
“It was before you actually told me right?”
“Nope! I made sure to tell you as soon as I realized it.”
~
“Tzuyu we’re running late! Hurry!”
“I’m sorry I’m coming!”
This was so unusual for Tzuyu, she was usually much more punctual than I was. Suddenly she walks out the door with an amazing bathing suit on, wrapped with a sarong.
“You look stunning.” I told her.
“Really? You think so? I worked hard on this outfit.” She says with the cutest smile.
“Yes really! Ok, let’s get in the car we’re going to be late!”
We were headed to my parent’s anniversary at the beach. My parents had never met Tzuyu before this, I was extremely nervous. When we got to the beach my parents and the rest of the family had gotten the party started without us.
“Sana! Is that you!? Oh dear it is! Honey look its Sana and her girlfriend!”my mom exclaims.
“Yes mom louder please, I don’t think the fish in the sea heard you.”
“Oh Sana please she’s just excited to see you and finally meet Tzuyu. It is Tzuyu right?”
“Yes it is, it’s wonderful to finally meet you both as well. I actually brought some strawberry cheesecake for you guys, Sana told me how much your family loves cheesecake.”
“Oh my! Excuse me dear, I’m going to have a slice of this right now. Tzuyu come with me, have a slice!”
“Oh no, it’s fine I’m not really a fa-“
“Nonsense! Come join me!” She says smiling, ignoring Tzuyu.
My mom grabs Tzuyu’s hand and they rush over to the table where the food is and crack open the cheesecake, much to Tzuyu’s dismay.
“Tzuyu seems like a very sweet girl, beautiful too!” my dad says.
“Yupp, I’m lucky I found her.” I say as I watch Tzuyu try to avoid taking a bite of cheesecake, while my mom keeps trying to feed her. I laugh at the sight.
“You love this girl don’t you?” my dad asks.
“Wha…what? What are you talking about?” I say flustered.
‘Oh c’mon Sana, just a second ago you were looking at that girl like she was the most precious thing in the world! I know that look when I see it. That’s love right there.”
“Ok dad, you wouldn’t know how I’m feeling just by the look of my face, don’t give me that.”
“Oh Sana, as your father, I know exactly how you’re feeling by any face you make. You know how I know I’m right on this one?”
I look at my dad, who is obviously itching to tell me the answer to his question.
“Fine, I’ll bite. How?”
“You look at Tzuyu the same way I look at your mother.” He says happily.
I didn’t know what to say. It wasn’t until a few moments later when my dad was watching my mom, eating another slice of cheesecake and begging Tzuyu to try some, with the biggest smile on his face that I realized he was right.
“Mom I’m going to borrow Tzuyu for a bit ok?” I grab Tzuyu’s hand and walk away from the party for a bit.
“Gosh now I know where you get your persistence from! Your mom would not leave me alone about the cheesecake! I don’t know how I survived. Honestly, I don’t know if I could’ve lasted longer if you hadn’t come.” Tzuyu holds onto my hands tighter.
“You know my dad was having a great time watching you two go at each other. I think my parents really like you.”
“ You think so? I’m glad.” Tzuyu says with a quiet smile, “I saw the way your dad looks at your mom, it’s really cute, you can tell how much he loves her.”
“That’s funny, because he said he sees me look at you the same way.” I smile.
“Oh really now? Did you fall in love me all of a sudden Sana?” Tzuyu jokes.
“Actually I did, Tzuyu I love you.”
~
“All these moments with you Tzuyu, I’m glad we have them.” Sana smiles at me.
“Yeah, me too. Being with you has really changed my life Sana, for the better.”
“Tzuyu, what would you say if I wanted to change your life one more time?”
“What are you talking about?”
I look at Sana as she stands up and whistles really loud. Suddenly, I hear a bell jingling in the distance. I turn towards the sound and it’s Gucci! The jingling was the sound of the bell on Gucci’s collar. Gucci runs up to me holding flowers. After I pick them up I see a note written on the bouquet.
‘Look back at my collar. – Gucci.’
“What is this?” I laugh.
I look back at the collar, just as the note says and there’s a bag next to the bell on Gucci’s collar. I rip off the bag and open it up, and a ring falls out. I catch the ring and stand up and as I realize what’s going on I look at Sana who quickly grabs my hand and gets on one knee.
“Tzuyu will you give me the chance to change your life one more time? Will you be forever mine?”
I laugh a little.
“Ok, I know that sounded cheesy, and it kind of rhymed, trust me it sounded much better in my head. But seriously, Tzuyu will you marry me?”
“Yes, yes I will!” I scream out as tears start falling down my eyes.
Suddenly I hear loud screams coming from everywhere around me. It’s my parents and Sana’s parents and all our friends.
“Did you have this planned the whole time? You even had everyone come here?” I say shocked.
“Yupp! Momo was driving our car around and even picked up Gucci, that’s how it ended up in front of the arcade, and how Gucci was able to get here without you noticing. I gave Momo the spare key.”
I look over to Momo who’s smiling and waving at us with the spare key in her hand.
Sana really did change my life once again, and as I looked around, with all my friends and family around us, I knew it was for the better.
“Thank you for this Sana, I’m glad that you’ll be forever mine.” I can’t help but burst into laughter after I say that.
“Ok, I get it. It was cheesy. Let’s not talk about this again.”
“Oh no this memory will definitely be…forever mine.” I burst into laughter again.
“Tzuyu stop!”
Sana chases me around the courtyard and this is easily the happiest I have ever been.

Memory Lane: Maybe It’s Better
Alternate Endings: Satzu/Michaeng
Alternate Ending: Satzu
“Why are you even stopping me here then!? You’re happy with Mina now, and I want to be happy with Sana. Just leave me alone, what’s the point of doing this useless arguing!?”
“Because I was wrong!” Chaeyoung screams out at the top of her lungs, “I don’t think Mina saw, but I did. You were about to kiss Sana weren’t you? I remember you telling me you haven’t had your first kiss yet back in sophomore year. When I saw you there about to kiss Sana something happened in my chest and I realized that my heart was aching and begging you to not kiss her. Because I want your first kiss to be with…to be with me. I want your first kiss, your second, your third and every other kiss after that.”
I didn’t know what to say. Even if I knew I don’t think I would be able to let it out.
“Tzuyu, I’m sorry that it took so long for me to realize this but, now I know. I know that you’re the one I want to be with. I’ll leave Mina and be with you. You’re the one I see me having a future with. You’re the one that truly makes me happy, not Mina. Tzuyu, it’s you. I love you.”
Chaeyoung stops talking and puts her hands on my face and kisses me. All throughout high school I wondered what kissing Chaeyoung would be like. I didn’t think it would be like this. I didn’t want it to be like this. This felt so forced and unnatural. This isn’t what I wanted for my first kiss, not at all. I push Chaeyoung off me and tears start falling down my face.
“What’s wrong?” Chaeyoung asks.
“Everything! All of this is wrong! This isn’t how I wanted this day to go, this isn’t how I imagined my first kiss happening! You ruined everything!” I cry out.
Tears start rolling down Chaeyoung’s face too, “Tzuyu no please, I’m so sorry.”
“Just go away Chaeyoung leave me alone!” I run away as I cry and I can’t stop no matter how hard I try.
I reach the parking lot where I see Sana and Mina talking. I wipe the tears off my face and head to Sana’s car.
“Hey Tzuyu what took you guys so long? Where’s Chaengie?” Mina asks.
“She’s somewhere behind me. Sana let’s go.”
“Whoa Tzuyu is something wrong? Your eyes are all puffy have you been crying?”
“Just get in and drive please.”
“Ok yeah I’ll do that. See you Mina.”
“Yeah no problem I’m going to go look for Chaeyoung. See you guys at school I guess.” Mina runs off to the hills.
As Sana drives, I remember all the things Chaeyoung said to me over and over and I can’t hold back the tears anymore, and I start crying my heart out.
“Tzuyu!” Sana screams.
She parks the car on the side of the road and wipes my tears.
“Tzuyu please, tell me what’s wrong I want to help you. I can’t stand to see you like this, you can tell me anything.”
I look at Sana with my blurred vision. I wipe my eyes and see that she looked so sincere. I decide to tell her everything. My history with Chaeyoung, what I did to Mina and Momo, what happened at the hiking path, all of it.
“Oh my god. I had no idea that you went through all of that. Just so you know Tzuyu, I won’t ever do anything to hurt you. I’ll be there for you no matter what I promise.”
The moonlight leaks into the windows of Sana’s car. The light shines on her face and she looks even more beautiful now than she did back on the hill during the sunset.
“Thank you Sana, I’m glad to hear that. You really make me happy.”
“I want to make you happy. I want to make you happy all the time. So please don’t cry anymore, I’ll do anything, just say the word.”
“Kiss me…”
“Wh…what? Are you sure? You’re really ok with that right now?”
“Sana shut up and kiss me.”
I close my eyes as Sana comes closer and our lips touch. Her lips were so soft. They tasted sweet, I could taste the fruit we ate hours ago. This is better than Chaeyoung’s kiss. I lose myself in the moment. Sana runs her hands through my hair and I do the same to her. This is how it should be, this didn’t feel forced, it was natural, I felt at peace. I felt like I could be safe in Sana’s arms. I didn’t want to be anywhere else but by Sana’s side.
“Sana…would it be ok… if… I stayed at your place tonight?”
“Wh..what!? Tzuyu are you sure!? What about your mom? Won’t she worry?”
“I’ll text her don’t worry. I don’t want to be anywhere except next to you right now. I feel safe with you, I feel at peace when I’m with you.”
“Sure, just let me ask my parents if it’s ok.”
Sana takes out her phone and calls her mom.
“Hi Mom! Look, I have a…” she looks at me for a second, “a friend…that wants to sleep over tonight, is that ok?”
I can her mom’s voice through the phone, but I can’t really make out what she’s saying.
“Really? Thank you! We’ll be home soon! Bye!”
“Did she say it’s ok?”
“Yupp! Just as long as it’s ok with your mom, did you text her yet?”
I texted my mom as Sana was talking to hers, I take my phone out and look to see if I got a reply.
“Are you ok sweetie? I don’t mind you sleeping over at a friend’s place, just make sure you come home first to pick up stuff, I don’t want you being unprepared and have to borrow clothes and a toothbrush and stuff. Can you do that?”
“Well, she said it’s ok, I just have to stop by my house to pick up some stuff and talk to her first, is that ok with you?”
“Yeah, it’s not a problem!” Sana screams in happiness, “I get to spend the day with you Tzuyu I never thought this was going to happen haha!”
I turn to Sana and smile and she looks at me as if her eyes were peering into my heart. She then proceeds to kiss me on the cheek and smiles. I wasn’t expecting that and I can’t control my face. I cover myself with my bag and hide.
“Oh? What’s this? Tzuyu Chou is suddenly hiding in embarrassment from a kiss on the cheek after she told me to shut up and kiss her on the lips?” Sana jokes.
“That was in the moment! I just wanted to forget what happened earlier, I don’t know what got into me I just…you looked really beautiful under the moonlight ok?”
I peek over at Sana and she’s smiling with her cheeks bright pink. She starts the car and we head over to my house. Once we get there, I tell Sana that I won’t be long and head inside, as soon as I open the door my mom is waiting in the living room for me with a bag of my stuff.
“Mom you didn’t have to do that, I could’ve gotten my stuff on my own.”
Before I can say anything else, my mom gets up and turns on the light and grabs my face and looks at my eyes.
“Your eyes are red and puffy. You were crying not too long ago weren’t you?”
My mom always noticed things like this, I could never get anything past her.
“Yeah I was, but I’m ok now really.”
“I understand that at a time like this you need to be with your friends, at your age they mean a lot. But just don’t forget that you can talk to me about anything no matter what ok Tzuyu? I don’t care what it is, dreams, school, boys, girls, no matter what I am here for you understand?”
This really touched me, my mother always knew what to say.
“Thank you mom, I love you. I’ll be home early tomorrow I promise.”
I head back to Sana’s car and I see her bopping her head to what I’m pretty sure is Paramore. I wouldn’t beg Sana as a Paramore fan, but hey I like them too so I don’t pay too much mind to it. As soon as I open the door, Sana coughs and lowers the music.
“You uhh didn’t see all of that did you?”
“If you mean you head banging to Paramore, then yes I saw all of it.”
She slams her head on the wheel, “Ahh so embarrassing.”
I turn up the music and head bang to ‘Fences’. Sana watches in awe, and we start shaking our heads together. Once the song ends, I look up and see my mom watching from the door laughing.
“Oh no.” I hide my face, “Sana drive!”
“See Tzuyu! It’s embarrassing!”
“Sana just drive!”
Sana is driving and we look at each other every now and then. When our eyes meet we can’t help but laugh at what just happened. It turns out that Sana doesn’t live too far from me, we made it to her house in about fifteen minutes. I met Sana’s parents, who were very nice to me. We walked up the stairs to Sana’s room which was full of posters of various artists, from Paramore to Girl’s Generation.
“Sana you listen to K-Pop?”
“Yeah! I love Girl’s Generation! I listen to a few other groups too. That doesn’t bother you does it?”
“No, not at all, I actually really like Girl’s Generation too.”
“Oh yay!”
“Yah! Sana-chan! You’re too loud! You really need to learn to stop screaming.” Sana’s mom says as she pokes her head through the door.
Sana just nods her head and she covers her mouth.
“Sorry Tzuyu, she can be a little much sometimes, thank you for being her friend.” Sana’s mom says as she smiles.
“Oh I know, and thank you for letting me stay in your home.” I smile back.
“We have dinner almost ready, you girls hungry?”
“STARV…ahem I’m starving!” Sana says trying to control her volume.
“Yeah, I’m pretty hungry too.” I say as I feel my empty stomach.
“Well I hope you like curry Tzuyu, we made lots of it!”
“Yay I love your guys’ curry!” Sana yells out.
“Sana! What did I say about you volume!?”
Sana bites her lips and I think I feel my heart skip a beat, then I remember Sana’s mom is in the room and I try to calm down.
“Anyway, I’ll set the table you girls come down in about five minutes.” Sana’s mom closes the door.
“Your relationship with your parents is hilarious.” I laugh.
“You think so? I think she just likes to tease me too much, she’s just as loud as me you know!”
After eating Sana’s parents delicious curry, I head upstairs and grab my stuff and go to the bathroom to freshen up. I look inside my bag and notice that my mom really did put everything inside her that I needed. I’m grateful for my parents too. As soon as I head out of the bathroom, I go back inside Sana’s room and see her lying on her bed in a shirt and shorts. I see her poke her head out her pillow and she lets out a laugh.
“Tzuyu you really own matching pajamas!? How old are you, ten?” She points at my jammies and laughs.
“Hey! Don’t laugh at my jammies! I love them! They have little puppies on them look!”
Sana gets up, “Hmm ok, I’ll admit it, those are some cute puppies.”
“See! I love these.”
Sana closes the door behind me, “The girl wearing the jammies is much cuter though.” She whispers in my ear.
I feel as shiver down my spine and I blush bright red.
“So do you want to sleep on the floor with a sleeping bag or do you want to sleep right here on the bed with me?” She winks.
“The floor is fine!” I say blushing.
“Tch, I guess.” Sana says sounding disappointed as she reaches into her closet for a sleeping bag.
We spend the night watching K-Pop stuff on Youtube because I wanted to learn more about Girl’s Generation and all the other groups Sana was interested in. I never got the chance to listen to all of Girl’s Genereation’s songs but I was always wanted to. By the time we finished on our little crash course it gotten really late.
“Ok Tzuyu, if you don’t mind turning off the light before you go to bed?”
“Yeah sure thing.”
I turn off the light and as soon as I turn around Sana is knocked out. How does that even happen? About twenty minutes pass by and I can’t get comfortable in this sleeping bag. I get up and peek at Sana’s bed and she’s facing the opposite direction and I’m stuck staring at her back.
“Hey Sana, are you awake?”
Nothing.
“Sana I can’t sleep in this thing. Can I get on the bed?”
Still nothing. It seemed like there was enough room for me to sneak in without waking her up. Even one step onto the bed and I knew I could have a much easier time sleeping on this rather than the sleeping bag. I lift up the blanket slowly and creep inside trying not to wake up Sana. I manage to get in and lie down on the pillow and close my eyes. Just as I am about to fall asleep, I feel arms wrap around me.
“Sana? Were you awake the whole time?” I say as I turn around.
“Maybe.” She winks and smiles at me.
She pulls me in closer and kisses me on the forehead. I don’t know what to do, not like I can do anything anyway, because Sana still has me trapped in her arms. I look up and Sana just looking into my eyes. I reach for Sana’s hand and hold it tight. I look back up at her and move in closer and rest my head on her shoulder.
“I feel at peace when I’m with you Sana.”
“I want you to feel this way all the time Tzuyu.” She picks up my chin and kisses me. I’m happiest when I’m with Sana, in fact this is the happiest I’ve been in a long time. I want to be with Sana forever.

“Hey, I’m here at the café, let me know when you’re close by and I’ll order for you. The usual right?”
“Yeah the usual please, I’ll be there soon, my mom was being emotional.”
“Will do, drive safe! And don’t act like you’re not emotional either silly!”
Ugh Sana, shut up. Luckily my house…erm I mean my mom’s house? My old house? Whatever, I’m only five minutes away from the café, so I get there relatively quickly. I see Sana inside as she waves embarrassingly at me jumping in the air.
“Sana sit down! You’re embarrassing!”
“Oh relax, nobody cares! You’ve always been so timid Tzuyu. Loosen up! Anyway I got our usual stuff, you sure do love your chocolate.”
“Well you love your fruity stuff, with your yogurt and smoothies and I don’t judge you for it!”
“That’s because there is no such thing as too much fruit. You got yourself a mochaccino and a chocolate cake, that’s not too much for you?”
“I’m sorry if my love for chocolate offends you.” I take a bite of my delicious cake and wash it down with my mochaccino. There is certainly nothing wrong with chocolate being washed down with more chocolate.
“So how was your day?” Sana asks as she sips her strawberry smoothie.
“It was ok. After work I went to pick up some stuff from my uhh old house, to bring to the new place.”
“I still can’t believe that we have our own place! It makes me realize that this really isn’t a dream.” Sana says as she stares at her hand.
“What’s not a dream?” I ask as I take as sip of my mochaccino.
She smiles while staring at the ring on her finger, “Being married with you.”
I smile and take a bite of my chocolate cake, “Hey Sana, remember that date we went on a few years ago when we rode on the ferris wheel? And you told me you loved me and I said I loved you back?”
“Yes of cour-“
“And then you were so happy that you started dancing Girl’s Generation’s Mr. Taxi as soon as we got back down?”
“TZUYU STOP! It’s not my proudest moment ok…ugh I want to hide under the table now.”
“What made you think that was a good idea again? Haha”
“Look I was just really happy ok, don’t judge me.” Sana pouts.
“Aww I’m sorry don’t be sad! Here have some more yogurt.” I feed her a spoonful and smile.
“You don’t usually act this cute, especially in public” Sana leers at me, “What do you want Tzuyu?”
“You.”
“Wooow how bold of you! Now really, what do you want?” Sana says unfazed.
“No really Sana, all I’ve ever wanted is to be with you forever. You never hurt me, not even once. I just want to be by your side always.”
"I would never hurt you. To me you are something that needs to be protected from the world. I’m never letting anything or anyone harm you. I love you Tzuyu.”
“I love you too Sana, let’s go home now, our home.”

The text I received wakes me up from my daydream. I grab my phone and check to see who it is.
“Hey Chaengie! I was talking to my friend Sana the other day about this place I found while hiking with Momo. It has a beautiful view over there around sundown, I figured maybe you might want to check it out today?”
Oh it’s Mina. I look at my other messages and Tzuyu hasn’t responded. Knowing her she’s either studying or really into some new anime that came out. I’ll have to ask her about it later. Since she didn’t reply I’ll go with Mina today.
“Yeah sure, sounds like fun!” I reply.
Mina picks me up and we start talking about her upcoming dance competitions. Even after dating for a few months I just can’t get caught up with all this dancing vocabulary she uses no matter how hard I try to learn. But there’s one thing I know for sure, and that’s when I watch Mina dance she takes my breath away every single time.
“Oh hey, Chaeyoung!”
“Huh? What is it?”
“I finally checked out the anime you told me about!”
“Toradora!?” I say excitedly.
“Yeah that one! I haven’t finished it yet, but it’s really interesting! We should watch it together when we get back, there’s some stuff I don’t quite get so I’m going to need you to explain it to me.”
“Oh yeah that’s fine! I’m excited!”
“Oh we’re here! Hopefully we can hike fast enough to catch the sunset by the beach.”
Mina is a much better hiker than I am. My short legs just can’t keep up with her. About fifteen minutes into the hike I am pooped. I look up and hear Mina shouting out someone’s name.
“…is that you?”
Huh? Who’s over there? I muster up the strength to get up and walk to the top of the hill. It was Mina’s friend Sana. Oh she’s about to kiss someone, really Mina? Don’t mess up her moment.
“Sana! I knew it was you! When you asked me about this place I didn’t think I’d find you here so soon haha. Oh Tzuyu! Oh no we weren’t interrupting something were we?”
Tzuyu is here too? Oh I see, that’s why she didn’t reply. She was on a date with Sana. Since when do they know each other? Were they really about to kiss just now?
“Babe what are you doing over there still? Sana and Tzuyu are here! Come say hi!”
I walk over slowly, because this is kind of awkward. Tzuyu and I used to like each other, and she even asked me out, plus I don’t even know Sana that well.
“Hey guys!” I say trying to sound as not awkward as possible.
“Hi Chaeyoung! It’s nice to finally meet you! Mina has told me so much about you!” Sana says as she holds out her hand to shake mine.
“Really? They weren’t bad things were they?” I glare at Mina jokingly.
“Oh no, all good things I promise! She always talks about how even though you’re feminine, you’re still so cool and se-.”
“OK SANA THAT’S ENOUGH.” Mina says in the loudest voice I think I have ever heard her speak in.
“Were you guys here to catch the sunset too?” Tzuyu asks.
“Yeah we were, but the hike was too long, looks like we missed it.” I say with a frown.
“Don’t worry Chaengie, we can always come back here.” Mina reassures me.
“Yeah that’s true.”
“So Sana, how did you guys like it here?”
“It’s beautiful! You were right not many people come here! I hope it stays like that forever so we can always be alone, it’s like our own private beach!”
“Well it’s getting pretty late, I don’t want my mom to worry, Sana we should leave.” Tzuyu speaks up.
“Oh! I’ll help you guys out!” Mina helps Sana with their stuff and heads to the cars.
Tzuyu is about to walk with them, but I grab her wrist.
“Tzuyu, can we talk for a bit?”
“Huh? Oh, yeah sure, but not too long.”
“I had no idea you liked Sana, how did that happen?”
“Oh well, she asked me to tutor her for math and well one thing led to another and here we are.” She smiles.
Her smile looked so pure, like she was truly happy. I thought I would feel a little jealous, because I don’t think I remember Tzuyu ever smiling like that with me.
“How are you Mina, by the way?”
I look over to Mina who is laughing at Sana as she trips and almost drops her stuff.
“It’s going great actually, I like to think that we’re really happy right now. She’s getting into anime you know?”
“Oh really? Does that mean you won’t need me to talk to anymore?” Tzuyu frowns.
“What kind of question is that? Tzuyu you know you’re always going to be my favorite anime friend! One of my favorite friends in general! Nothing would change that.”
“I’m glad you found someone that makes you happy Chaeyoung.” Tzuyu says.
“It looks like you’re on the same path.” I tease.
“Haha you think so? I don’t know where this thing with Sana is going exactly, but it’s something different, and I like it. Anyway I should get going now. Oh! Sorry I didn’t text back right away, I was so caught up with Sana to be quite honest I forgot to reply. Forgive me?” She looks at me with big eyes.
“Yeah yeah I forgive you. Now go run off to Sana!”
“I will! Bye!”
I watch as Tzuyu runs into the distance and I’m glad that she’s happy. A few minutes passed as I decided to take it slow and watch the stars in dark night sky. I don’t think I’ve seen stars this bright before. I look to my left and see the ocean waves crash against the beach and I take in the deep sea air and I feel happy. Suddenly I see Mina running towards me.
“Chaengie! You were taking a while so I ran over to get you. What was taking so long, are you ok?”
“Sorry, I was just taking in the sights, it really is beautiful here Mina, even if we missed the sunset, I’m glad we came.”
“That’s good to hear, do you mind if I enjoy the rest of this walk with you?” Mina says as she holds out her hand.
“Of course not.” I smile and hold her hand tight and we walk back the rest of the way.
“Mina, can I tell you something?”
“Yeah of course, what is it?”
"All I know is that you never made me feel confused about how I feel about you. I love you and it's just that simple."
I look up at Mina, who stopped walking, and she’s bright red.
“Where is this coming from? Are you ok?” Mina looks at me worried.
“Nothing is wrong, just being with you under the stars makes me happy. I’ll race you to the car!”
I run off and I hear Mina complaining behind me.
“Didn’t you just say being with me makes you happy!? Why are we running!?”
I stop quickly and grab onto Mina as she runs into me and we roll down the grassy hills and end up flat on grass starring at the sky.
“What’s gotten into you today?” Mina asks.
“I just say how Tzuyu was so happy with Sana, and it made me remember how happy you make me. I want to stay with you forever Mina.”
We laid there and held hands under the night sky and laughed.
Three Years Later
“Mina you’re going to be late! Hurry up!”
“We’re not going to be late don’t worry! The competition isn’t until tomorrow, you have nothing to worry about!”
“The competition!? This isn’t just another competition Mina! This is the Olympics! You’re in the freaking Olympics! In Japan, your mother land! We can’t miss our flight!”
“Why are you more pressured about this than I am?” Mina laughs.
“I’m just really excited for you ok! Hurry let’s go!”
“Chaengie our flight doesn’t leave for another two hours relax!”
