Why I Think Locksport Is the Best Hobby
Tumblr media
Locksport, the fascinating hobby of lockpicking, has captured the interest of enthusiasts worldwide. As someone who has been engrossed in this intriguing pursuit, I firmly believe that locksport is the best hobby one could undertake. In this article, I will outline the reasons why locksport stands out among other hobbies, and why it deserves recognition and appreciation.
Introduction to Locksport
Locksport is the art of understanding and manipulating locks and keys, usually through lockpicking. What was once an obscure hobby has grown in popularity over the years, drawing the attention of both hobbyists and professionals alike. For me, the journey into the world of locksport began with a sense of curiosity and adventure.
The Fascination with Locks and Keys
Locks and keys have a rich history, dating back thousands of years. Their evolution from simple mechanisms to intricate designs is truly fascinating. As locksport enthusiasts, we find joy in exploring the inner workings of locks, appreciating the craftsmanship behind them.
The Skills Locksport Develops
Locksport isn't merely about picking locks; it hones a set of valuable skills. The process of picking a lock requires problem-solving abilities, dexterity, and immense patience. These skills, once developed through locksport, often find applications in other areas of life.
Locksport as a Mindful Activity
Engaging in locksport can be a remarkably mindful and relaxing activity. The focus required to manipulate each pin and tumbler demands our complete attention, providing an escape from the stress of everyday life. The meditative nature of locksport can lead to improved mental well-being.
The Social Aspect of Locksport
Locksport is more than just a solitary hobby. The lockpicking community is a tight-knit group of individuals who share a passion for locks and security. Events, meet-ups, and competitions create a sense of camaraderie, making locksport an engaging social experience.
Locksport and Ethics
There is often a misconception that locksport enthusiasts engage in criminal activities. However, the locksport community emphasizes ethical behavior and responsible use of their knowledge. Ethical locksport enthusiasts aim to improve security, not exploit vulnerabilities.
Locksport for Personal Security Awareness
Locksport can also serve as a valuable tool for raising awareness about security vulnerabilities. Understanding how locks work allows individuals to make more informed decisions about their personal security. Empowering oneself and others with this knowledge is a positive outcome of locksport.
Locksport as a Hobby for All Ages
Contrary to popular belief, locksport is not restricted to a specific age group or background. It is an inclusive hobby that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. For children and teenagers, locksport can provide valuable educational benefits, nurturing problem-solving skills from an early age.
Famous Locksport Enthusiasts and Contributions
Locksport has even caught the attention of notable figures throughout history. Some famous individuals were or are avid locksport enthusiasts. Their contributions to the field have left a lasting impact and have helped promote locksport as a legitimate and valuable pursuit.
Locksport and Problem-Solving
The challenges presented by various locks encourage locksport enthusiasts to develop strong problem-solving abilities. Overcoming the puzzles posed by intricate locks is a rewarding experience that keeps enthusiasts hooked to the hobby.
Locksport Competitions and Events
Locksport competitions are thrilling events that allow enthusiasts to showcase their skills. These competitions come in various formats, ranging from speed-picking to complex challenges. Participating in these events adds a competitive aspect to the hobby and fosters a sense of achievement.
The Future of Locksport
As technology continues to evolve, locksport is likely to follow suit. The emergence of smart locks and advanced security systems presents new opportunities for locksport enthusiasts. The future holds exciting possibilities for the growth and development of this remarkable hobby.
Conclusion
In conclusion, locksport is a hobby that has captivated my heart and mind. The fascination with locks and keys, the development of valuable skills, the meditative and social aspects, and the potential for positive contributions all contribute to making locksport the best hobby I have ever pursued. Duplicating a key at Menards using a 3D printed key!
Had a friend send me a photo of a key to see if I could figure out the cuts and 3D print it. Then I decided to see if I could get that 3D printed key duplicated into a real key!

Keys, keys are a wonderful thing, because you can keep them on a ring. They open locks, that secure your doors, which lets you pretend you are safe and protecting what’s yours. The problem is keys are just one way, you can pick and bump and jiggle and play. Locks will cause some to stop and flee, but just remember there are people with bad intentions and have skills like me!

Uninstall Comodo Communication (Comodo ITSM)
So we were testing some different Managed Services softwares and Comodo One was one of them. Anyways, I installed it on my Mac to test. Well, we decided against it and closed our account. However, this dumb icon was still in my menu bar. So I Google’d how to remove it. Every thing I found said I had to log into the admin area to remove it. Long story short, it was a pain, but I finally found the answer after thinking on it for a bit. Now I will share with you what I did, as to save yourself the agony that I went through!
Tumblr media
It is actually pretty simple once i found it.
First open your terminal
Then type cd /Library/Application Support/ComodoCDM/bin
Next if you type ls you should see a file named uninstall.sh
In your terminal type sudo ./uninstall.sh and hit enter
WHAM BAM THANK YOU MA’AM! IT’S GONE!

I modeled this bump key hammer after the Sparrows bump key hammer. Sparrows is about $12 and this cost about $5 in materials to make. I made it available on Thingiverse.com - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2712872

I bought the Southord tubular lock picks and 2 practice locks. They are very awkward to hold and try to pick open. I had also recently purchased Sparrows progressive lock set. The shape of the lock body was very comfortable in the had. So I decided to make a body along the same lines and shape of the Sparrows lock body, but make it work for tubular locks. In the end I printed 2 bodies. One for my 7 pin lock and one for my 8 pin lock. You can find it on Thingiverse.com https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2696160
