I’m not stupid: I have dyscalculia

I want to be able to talk about some issues that I have. Dyscalculia is a learning disability that often appears to be merely poor math skills, but it’s more than that. What upsets me is how unknown to the general public this learning disability is (I only found out about it through training, as I am an educator and had to study it to learn how to help my students through it), and there is power in knowing why you think the way you do. Also, I have ADHD, and those with that disorder are fare more likely to also have dyscalculia as well; it’s also considered a cousin of dyslexia. 

 Here is a list of the symptoms of the disability I have, so it is not comprehensive. I just wanted to tell somebody about it. Get it off my chest. Also, the ones in bold are the ones that affect me the most. Here goes:

I have trouble with adding/subtracting/multiplying, or really, doing anything with numbers higher than ten

difficulty understanding and doing word problems

I feel stressed out making change and handling money

I easily get lost

knowing my left from my right comes down to making the L shape with my left hand

I have very little spacial awareness, making me clumsy on foot and driving

severe difficultly remembering names

I have trouble reading analog clocks

poor memory for anything number-related

motor-sequencing issues, which makes it hard to learn a dance or move in a graceful fashion

directions (north, south, east, and west) are unfathomable to me

short-term memory issues

TIME MANAGEMENT STUFF / TERM 7 

I’ve got a lot of questions about this during my Art Center time, so I drew it ! This system came from when I had to manage my time during art high school (8am-5pm everyday) with 2 waitress jobs. Everybody has different working method, but I will be more than happy if anyone gets new idea from it !

tip: if you’re wanting to learn japanese, but don’t know where to start, I’d recommend learning hiragana and katakana, and then start on kanji with wanikani (produced by tofugu)! this will save you SO MUCH TIME trust me :3
