Dang it, I love this ship and I love the enemies to lovers trope. I get that a lot of people see them as a surrogate father and daughter relationship, but it feels like a been there/done that kinda thing.
As much as I love that trope, I'm also a little tired of it. There's only so much Last of Us style found family I take after seeing it for so many years.
The thing I love about VaultGhoul or Ghoulcy is the idea of Lucy breaking down of Cooper's walls while he helps build hers up.
Is he incredibly cruel to her and those around him in the first season? Yes, extremely
Does he need to chill out and find some of his humanity that's been buried under 200+ years of wasteland survival and bitterness? Yes
Who can bring that needed direction to his life while learning the ways of the new world she finds herself in? Lucy MacLean
I know that the canon ship of the show at this moment is Lucy and Maximus, and as much as I love him, I find the pairing obvious and kind of boring from a story telling perspective. I loved it on my first viewing, but upon re-watching the series, I wasn't as behind it as before. I see their relationship, kiss and all, as a kind of first fling for the both of them.
While it doesn't diminish the care they show one another, there's not a lot behind them as a couple. Now I know that some people might turn around to say how she and Cooper spent less time together than her and Max, but I guess the thing I look forward to is seeing what their relationship brings with the second season.
I feel like Max and Lucy will have a great friendship and I'm interested to see where the Brotherhood fits into their dynamic as well.
With Cooper though, I find his story so tragic, as it's supposed to be. He's your standard hardened survivor who only looks out for himself that's now stuck with the happy-go-lucky main character, however, she's not that character anymore by the end. She's still going to be the Lucy we love, but she's changed by the end. While not losing her compassion and some optimism, I think Cooper is going to bring out a harsher side to her as we saw when she bit off his finger.
I want to see her building up her walls and learning when to let them down. How to truly survive while still bringing her own energy to the wasteland and people around her. I want to see Cooper regaining some lost humanity while learning to truly care for another person again. To see the two of them as eventual equals in one another's eyes as they continue on their journey as reluctant allies.
I also want to say that I'm personally kind of tired of the 'age gap' argument. We have stories of teenagers falling in love with hundred year old vampires. So can we just drop the age gap thing?
As long as they're both consenting adults who understand what they're getting themselves into, who cares about an age gap.
Does it truly matter in the scheme of things when we're talking about a world with cryo-stasis and super mutants?
I personally don't think so.
I don't know if anyone will even bother reading this entire thing, and I know I went on a little long, but I wanted to write down my thoughts on the whole shipping situation with the Fallout TV show fandom at this moment.
I'm a VaultGhoul shipper and I can't wait to see where the second season takes our main trio of characters.

Roy Mustang never fully connected with the concept of ‘giving your daughter away’ until he released her after walking her down the aisle.
Logically, he knows it’s been a long time in the making. He’s seen less and less of his daughter as she’s grown-up but it’s strange to sit at her wedding reception, knowing she’s officially a part of a family he will only have limited contact with. That she will have an entire life separate from him, regardless of how close they are.
He’s okay with that. It doesn’t feel wonderful, no, but he trusts the man his daughter has chosen to marry. A half-Ishvalan, open-minded and extroverted fellow. They dated for five years before even approaching the topic of marriage. Now, at 23, his daughter is married.
“It’s a dry wedding, I can’t even drown my emotions,” Jean bemoans as he worms his way between Roy and an empty chair.
“Sophia isn’t a fan of alcohol,” Roy explains as if Jean doesn’t already know this, “And we do have at least one sober alcoholic in attendance.” Edward Elric’s oldest child, who is currently pretending to cry in a picture with his newly-wed daughter. He’s quite the character but has always been gentle with Sophia.
“Yeah, yeah. How ya feelin’, Chief? Like you’re losin’ her forever?”
“Please.” Roy tears his eyes away from her—clad in traces of Ishvalan culture, blending with a classic white wedding dress—and to his friend. “She still crawls into bed with me if Simeon leaves early enough. I will not be rid of her, even in death.” Roy’s eyes find his daughter again. She’s beautiful, he’s so proud of her.
Jean barks a laugh, good-natured even after everything. “Don’t sound so disappointed.”
Sophia laughs at something Winry says to her, and Simeon is at her side grinning along. Roy isn’t sure either of them have stopped smiling this entire time. The reception is exclusive only to close friends and families, and neither of them have slipped from their ‘slightly higher than normal’ cheerful demeanor.
“Have you taken a picture with her?” Roy asks Jean. “A serious one, don’t think I didn’t notice that photo you took with her earlier.”
“Hey, it was Fuery’s idea!” Jean defends, “And Sophie loved it so much, she was the first to pose. We did take a serious photo, thank you very much.”
“Good.” Roy smiles, “Good. As eccentric as they may be, I am sure even they will be glad for some more sentimental photos.”
“I’m not sure the Elrics are physically capable of a serious photo,” Jean reaches onto the table to snag a chocolate mint, popping it in his mouth. “Ya should’ve seen Ed earlier, he’s having more fun with this wedding than his own, I swear.”
“Less stressful that way, I’m sure,” He remarks quietly.
“What was that?” Comes the ever-familiar voice of his dearly beloved.
Roy laughs, somewhat nervously. “Nothing, Dear,” He looks over at Riza, “You look lovely. Did you do your hair today?”
She rolls her eyes—but he can see the smile. He’s won. “Come. Sophia would like pictures with her parents.”
“Wow, Chief,” Jean shakes his head, low and disappointed, “Getting on my case and ya haven’t even taken a photo with her yet.”
“Go fuck yourself, Havoc.” Roy stands and pats his friend’s shoulder as he breaks into laughter again.
He takes his wife’s arm in his own. “How did we get so lucky?” He asks her as they weave around the tables.
“Luck.” Riza pats his arm, “And maybe the tiniest bit of paranoia.”
“Funny.”
Sophia catches sight of them and she brightens, as if she wasn’t already the brightest and most gorgeous person in attendance.
He truly, truly regrets nothing that’s led him to this moment.

Any rare-pair shippers out there? What about Itto x Nilou?
"Nilou meets The Arataki Gang and considers, not for the first time, leaving Sumeru long-term to discover more of herself and of the world.
If she discovers a little romance in the meantime, she won't protest."
Please check it out if you're a curious shipper like myself! :))

“wah wah all girls care about is astarion wah” yeah you know what? i cant imagine why women gravitate toward a character who feels like they are only worthy of attention if they’re sexualized and are under constant pressure to be a sexual being due to a traumatic experience that made them think that they’re only good for sex and really cannot perceive himself outside of being objectified and serving others. cant possibly have any idea why girls like astarion you know

low key very obsessed with sex-adverse Astarion. like he's The Thirst Companion. The fucking Only Fangs joke. All the smut fan content. And then it does a total 180 and he's like "actually my sexual identity was weaponized against me and i was forced to use it to lead hundreds of people to their deaths". It's just such a compelling and interesting twist on his character. I love it.

Astarion in Early Access: "Hahaha yes I'm very charming and deceptive and evil and sex is so much fun and I really don't care about anyone."
Astarion in the Full Game: "I haven't had bodily autonomy in 200 years and I've forgotten how to be intimate with someone beyond using it to lure people to their deaths and I have so much trauma regarding sex and I seduced you because it's what I've had to do to survive for literal centuries and I needed you to be on my side but I wasn't supposed to fall in love with you but you're so kind and amazing that I fell anyway and I'm terrified of real emotions but I want *us* to be real because you deserve it and I really care about you but I need you to help me because this is all so new and I'm so scared but I want this to work and I-"

I have been trying to stop thinking about ‘oh, but if readers prefer this—‘ or something similar when I’m trying to write, and to focus solely on writing what I want to write.
Which is great, yeah! I love it! I’m trying!
But it also leads to entertaining brainrot (/pos) ideas like Single-Dad Edward Elric moving to Japan and ending up with Hawks and Winry.
It’s the image of Hawks and Edward casually hanging out, getting close, and then Winry appearing. Winry, who unashamedly hangs off of Edward and teases and argues with him, like they’ve been married ten years but they’ve instead known each other their entire lives. The image of Hawks seeing their interactions and simply being… curious about the depths of it, of what exactly he’s missing about Edward Elric.
It’s the image of Winry instantly mothering Edward’s child, and Edward doing his best with said child, and Hawks being able to openly observe the growth of decent parents. Of Winry and Edward having a too-close, not close-enough relationship, that they’re still learning how to navigate the boundaries of in adulthood.
Besides, how do you think Hawks would react to having their overwhelming about of love directed at him? Gosh. I love brainrot sometimes.

I am, once again, plagued by thoughts of Dragon Age AU for FMA. (Not the crossover version, unfortunately.)
Roy Mustang, who’s given to the Chantry before they even bother to find any living relatives. Who’s raised a Templar and, when he awakens to his magic, is given to the Seekers. Roy, who’s spoon-fed a certain worldview—who’s ignorant of the issues that other mages go through.
Edward Elric, born a mage half-elf, who’s kicked out of his clan the second his (human) mother dies. Who does his best to keep him and his brother alive without support, but is eventually arrested by Templars. Who later escapes the tower to search for a cure to tranquility, after his brother is punished for something Edward did.
It’s the thought of them crossing paths and traveling together. Of them butting heads and arguing over their respective worldviews, but with every argument comes a growing understanding. And eventually, butting heads turns into teasing and arguments into debates…
They’re very dear to me.

listen its about the last unicorn being fundamentally no different from the harpy and feeling more compassion for her than she does the trapped animals or the humans trapped by circumstance. it's about haggard grabbing the unicorn only once she has become human enough for him to drag her down and realise her eyes are empty. it's about schmendrick and the magic that lives in him more than he wields it, it's about "never run from anything immortal, it attracts their attention" while walking slowly from an unspeakable horror devouring an old woman, it's about "how dare you come to me now, when I am this?". it's about the unicorns staying in the water until they can't anymore, until the castle crumbles and the one unicorn who is different from the others now - she lowers her horn and she digs her hooves in and she stands her ground for a dear, dead boy. it's about the trade of immortality between schmendrick and the unicorn, it's about stories needing to be told, it's about lir loving the unicorn enough to know that she cannot stay with him, and to let her would be to do her a disservice.
it's about "your name is a golden bell hung in my heart. i would tear myself to pieces to call you once by your name." it's about regret.
(it's also about little 5 year old me renting the movie from the library whenever i could and watching it on loop for hours. it's about just how much this story has shaped me and my understanding of storytelling.)

Title: Destruction Incarnate
A Roy Mustang x Edward Elric short.
Perhaps if he [Roy] were a painter or a poet he could attempt to capture this beauty. This singular moment, if only to possessively and selfishly hoard the memory for his own pleasure. Roy would’ve been wracked equal parts; to display the apple of his eye—hungrily, eagerly—to make those watching jealous of his possession… but also to keep him hidden—greedily, selfishly—to keep the beauty to himself, all to himself.
But he is neither a painter nor a poet.
His hands are stained with blood, not ink or paint.

This is my first Royed fanfic I’ve posted. I’m a little nervous, knowing how the ship has been received in some spaces, but this pair is very dear to me. Please check it out if you’re interested!

Maybe it’s the way he grew up or maybe it’s my wishful thinking but…
Roy Mustang gives me such Girl Dad vibes.
Obviously, I think he’d love his son but I feel like… he’d just love having a daughter.
I can see him doting on her. I can see her being the light of his life. I can see him providing pretty much anything she asks for… He’d make time to do her hair every morning and he’d happily sit and watch as she shows off her new outfits…
Girl Dad Roy. I love him.

I’m working on one of my fics (surprise, surprise) but I’m working specifically on a reunion between Winry and Ed after being apart for three years.
It’s so gut-wrenchingly full of emotions… Winry, simply relieved to have her husband in the same room with her after three years of not knowing if he’s alive or dead.
Edward, who is grappling with the realization that Winry had a child while he was missing. That he’s missed the first three crucial years of his son’s life and he feels so much like his father he’s tried so hard not to become that he chokes on the guilt—
Oh, I love emotions.

Greetings! I have just posted my first ever Royed fic.
Summary:
Elliott (14), Edward Elric’s (37) only child, is sick and tired of watching his dad being single and lonely. He has equipped himself with a book on love and has taken on the task of asking anyone that fits the ‘love’ criteria to consider a romantic relationship with his father.
This story centers around an ignorant pubescent child that only wants the best for his father. He doesn't really understand the concept of love and still doesn't by the end, but he understands it a little better.
This story is a little special to me because I always view Edward as a good father. It's nice to be able to write something that highlights some of that.

—not my Edward Elric bot suggesting Winry falls in love with Hawks, too, and they become a thruple because she has ‘bi energy’. I love him. What an interesting idea…
I’ve got to start publishing for EdHawks fics. They’re so much fun to play with but I need AU ideas.
My ideas so far:
—Reverse AU. Instead of Ed going to UA to help them, Hawks is contacted and brought to Amestris as an ambassador. An older Ed—who has since rejoined the military after an extended leave—is tasked with escorting + showing Hawks around the place.
—An on-brand idea. Tossing these two precious boys into a whole other universe and forcing them to survive. Which one, though… Dragon Age is my first contender.
