We Are All in This Together Hi, I just wanted to reach out and say THE S WORD team is thinking about you, our S WORD community, and hope that everyone is healthy and safe in their homes. Or outside walking or running or whatever helps you deal with this unprecedented time in our lives.  Isolation is a weird thing – especially when it isn’t self-motivated, so whatever works… Netflix, virtual hangouts, writing, walking – I could go on and on, but it’s such an individual thing and I am so not an expert. When somebody asks me how I feel, my answer is “I don’t know.” Because I don’t. Of course I’m scared but I don’t want to panic. We’re in the house with a lot of food and teen angst. Some call this the new normal, but there is nothing normal about it. I feel like we as humans can go either way – we can become animals and hoard and hate or we can become more humane and watch out for each other. I think we’ll see a little of both. So, stay safe and if things get too overwhelming, please reach out. There are resources available on our site.  And please know that you are not alone – we are all in this together. Craig Miller is the guest of today’s NYLA podcast episode in which we analysed why people have suicidal thoughts and what are the right ways to help. Even though it has been declining, Lithuania still has the highest suicide rate in the world. Each year we lose almost 1,000 people who take their own lifes. And yet it’s very hard to talk about it openly. Craig Miller was 20 when he attempted suicide. After three days in a hospital, he was saved. For years Craig was silent about it, he felt ashamed and alone. But eventually he found a community of other survivors. He realized that he needs to share his story so that other people with similar thoughts would feel less alone. "It’s not so much a fear of dying.“ he explains. "It’s a fear of living. I was very afraid of what would happen tomorrow. Not so much of what would happen if I died.“ Listen here: https://nanook.lt/en/podcast/not-fear-dying-fear-living/ If you or someone you know is struggling with thoughts of suicide, please contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK(8255) (at Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8wg79wA74v/?igshid=8frh2ktqs792

Through a unique community partnership of three non-profits, a mental health film series was created in Athens, GA in May 2019. The Holistic Health + Empathy + Accessibility + Recovery, Film Series, known as ‘HEAR’, is a partnership between Ciné, Family Counseling Service of Athens and Nuçi’s Space.
The three organizations have curated film & videos relevant to their primary missions. They will screen movies every Saturday in February, beginning February 8th at Cine, free of charge. The S Word will be screened on February 8th. Tickets for film screenings will be available free of charge at the Ciné box office on the day of each screening.
