chaos and order
so the theme of this episode was chaos and order, and for some characters, these two are in direct opposition. ravonna says so explicitly, “all that matters is order vs chaos.” she says she is order and immediately sylvie comes in, implying she is chaos. so through them we can see what it is to be purely one or the other and what it looks like when order and chaos are set solely against each other.
the narrative tells us that ravonna is wrong bc she just wants to restore the status quo, despite now knowing that the system was actively harming people and destroying lives, because she values order and stability over all. meanwhile, sylvie is wrong because of her complete disregard for the necessity of order. she refuses to take responsibility for her actions; she freed the timeline and that’s it, no need to do anything else, no need to worry about any consequences that might’ve had. unregulated chaos is acceptable bc she sees the corrupt order that was the tva as the only alternative. so they’re both wrong; you can’t have pure order or pure chaos, there’s gotta be a balance.
loki and mobius, of course, represent this balance. but it’s not even that like loki is chaos and mobius is order, so them working together creates a balance. instead, they each demonstrate a respect for both; individually they are both chaos and order. ofc they lean a certain way, mobius being more order and loki being more chaos, but through their relationship, they embrace both. i think we’ve really seen that this season, mobius’ more mischievous and chaotic side and loki’s willingness to work within a certain order when appropriate. they do still balance each other out, but as individuals they are both order and chaos.
in this sense, ravonna and sylvie are clear character foils to mobius and loki respectfully. they are what they could have and probably would have become if they had never met each other. sylvie and ravonna push people away, refuse to trust loki and mobius, but loki and mobius chose to trust each other, became friends and changed each other. mobius convinced loki that he doesn’t have to be what everyone expects (“you can be whoever, whatever, you wanna be”), and he comes to care about the people of the tva because of his relationship with mobius, which is why he can’t ignore the chaos of the new branches and allow them to destroy the tva or let kang’s variants conquer the universe. mobius was also changed by their relationship bc he used to be all about order and no chaos before loki convinced him of the tva’s corruption (“thanks for the spark”). without each other they could have been pure order or pure chaos and ended up like how sylvie and ravonna are rn, a little obsessive and very lonely.
i think this balance is the key to saving the tva and possibly defeating kang while still allowing the timeline to branch and people to live their lives. loki and mobius’ relationship is the key to it all so uhhhh in conclusion lokius is canon.

So, I just finished watching Across the Spiderverse-
Tumblr media
No spoilers here, but HOLY SHIT YALL-
I’m not even exaggerating when I say this is my favorite movie ever. I had such high expectations from the first one, and this movie managed to surpass them all. So much love, time, work, and dedication was clearly put into this movie, and you can feel it from the start. I’ll most definitely be writing and probably posting plenty of my rambling thoughts tomorrow, once I’ve gathered them a bit. They’ll all be tagged appropriately with spoilers and such.
Seriously y’all. If you haven’t seen these movies, please please PLEASE go watch them. The first one is amazing, and the second one is even better. It’s a worthwhile experience and is one that will leave you with love and appreciation- be that for the story, the characters, the animation, and/or the project as a whole. It’s something special (at least, it is to me) and I’ll most definitely be rewatching it the first chance I get.

Second coherent Spiderverse thought of the night:
I started panicking towards the last five minutes cause, you know, a lotttt of stuff was happening. And I looked at my watch to find that yes, roughly two and a half hours had passed. And I just thought oh no. No you aren’t just gonna leave that there. You can’t leave me hanging like this.
Anyways across the spiderverse is incredible, I’m gonna need to see it at least four more times, and also rewatch the original to draw new parallels and sob about it even more

I’m about to write an essay on the specific situation Miles is in as we set up for a third movie.
With great power comes great responsibility.
Not a single spiderman asked to be bit. No one planned to be spiderman. But, given the power to do so, they chose to become spiderman. Miles is bitten by a spider from a different dimension that was never meant for him. In that moment, two dimensions were doomed. One to lose it’s intended spiderman, and one to never have one at all.
But Miles’s New York isnt in a state of anarchy like Universe-42, where his spider came from. It’s relatively normal. It’s what we expect of Spider-Man’s New York. It’s not doomed.
Spiderman doesn’t choose to get powers. In any universe. But every spiderman looks at what he has and the world around him and does what he can do.
Miles is just as much a Spiderman as every other Peter out there. It could be anyone under the mask, should they chose to wear it.
He may have been in the wrong place at the wrong time but so was every other bite victim. This is not his fault. And it may take another watch or two for me to confirm, but I don’t think Miguel ever directly says something to blame miles as an actor in all this. Yes, miles is the linchpin. To keep to the canon web, miles should not have been bitten. The fault falls on happenstance, though it’s all too easy to pin on miles. But I don’t think Miguel ever says that. Miles shouldn’t exist. Miles is not spiderman, in Miguel’s eyes. But goddamnit he’s not at fault here.
I’m hoping Miles can take control of his own narrative. His entire character revolves around balancing the expectations of those around him while he tries to discover his own. His family, his school, living up to what spiderman is supposed to be. Even The Hole confronts him and demands he acknowledge they are nemeses, and upon being turned down, seeks vengeance and validation which is the catalyst for the movies major conflict. Ppl keep telling miles who to be. And in a universe where a kid got bit when he shouldn’t have, I hope he finds the strength to rewrite more shouldn’ts. Spiderman can do both. The captain doesn’t have to die. His relationship with Gwen Stacy does not end in tragedy.
EDIT: FUCKIN. IF THE CANON RULES ARE SO IMPORTANT. WHY’D JEFF DIE IN A UNIVERSE WITH NO SPIDERMAN? UNCLE AARON DIDNT HAVE TO DIE IN THAT ONE SO WHY DID THE CAPTAIN??? ANSWER ME THAT M I G U E L?????

I love stories that
A. Use FULL use of the medium they’re made in and this does so on several levels
B. Are about characters breaking out of their story and this does so on several levels
C. Are about parallel versions of yourself and how they live in comparison and this does so on several levels beyond the jokingly obvious.
I have a LOT more to say besides those points but holy shit

Figured it was time for a change. Something a bit more personal and tied to me rather than any specific fandom. Feels like it fits this time.

Spoilers for episode 9 of HBO The Last of Us
God damn it, this episode fucked me up y’all. In an attempt to not throw up (because that shit got to my head and made me nauseous) imma just,,,find some Joel and Ellie fanfic to read. Tomorrow I’ll come back and talk about it all.
All I’ll say is that Ellie should have never been put in that position- no matter what she would have chosen, if given the choice. Because she is a fourteen year old girl who has lost almost everyone she’s ever loved to the one thing she can never fall victim to. Because no child should ever have to make that kind of choice. Because while Ellie may have wanted to save the world- while she went through hell and back to hopefully be able to- she didn’t want to die. And she should never have had to carry that weight…that guilt on her shoulders. She should have never be put in a position where she was encouraged to ‘save the whole world’ through her death. Because her heart is so big, and her empathy is strong as hell. Because they have convinced her that her purpose is the cure, when it is so much more than that. She was a child. And they were adults, who should have never put her in that spot. Who should have tried researching to see if there was any other way, because killing a child is fucking horrific. Because they should have known better. Because she is so much more than a possible cure. She is a child. She loves bad puns, the moon, horses, airplanes, comic books and her pocket knife. She has lost almost every single person who she has ever loved, and she has been through things that no one should ever have to go through. But she still has her empathy, and her heart- even when the world has tried to snuff out her light time and time again. She deserves to grow up without the weight of the world crushing her. She deserves to spend time growing with Joel beside her- to discover who she is with the person she loves most at her side. She deserves to live, not just survive.
I don’t have a nice way to finish this post, and I may even delete it in the morning. But the final episode made me feel physically ill, and I needed to get this out of my chest.

‘Soon You’ll Get Better’ is one of the Taylor Swift songs I can only listen to alone, due to my emotional connection to it. But it came on tonight while I was just listening to music, and my stomach dropped when I listened to this part- because it immediately reminded me to Ellie taking care of Joel, desperately speaking to him even when he’s unconscious and asking him what to do. Because she can’t loose him, she just can’t. Because he wouldn’t leave her alone- not after leaving Jacksonville. And she doesn’t know what to do without him, because he’s her dad in every way that matters.
