Inside the Studio Artist Interviews This week, I'm pleased to have Calgary-based contemporary artist Ana Zanella on Inside the Studio artist interviews. 😊 Ana is a mixed media artist in Calgary. I have been making art and pursuing creative endeavors most of my life. Beautiful and powerful art has always been my passion. I work mostly with acrylic paints on canvas, but I love exploring how different mediums can be incorporated onto my work: inks, watercolors, printing, image transfers, drawing, sewing and crocheted pieces. Walking my dog this morning. I think the rain from Calgary moved this way. I often go to Westvue Dog Park…. Usually each morning as it’s a quick, off leash area. Nymeria, my golden doodle, loves to run and play. It’s a 1 km loop and she runs the whole thing as I toddle behind. I’m often struck by the sparseness of trees in this field. There’s something about a single tree standing alone in the sun that resonates with me. Blue, stormy skies, a touch of sunlight, a single tree. People often ask why I sign the sides of my paintings. When I first started painting, I found it hard to sign my name with a paintbrush on the front. Let’s face it-my full name is pretty long:) I shortened my name to the brand “TE “ in the front, widened the profile of the panels and opted to put the full signature on the sides. I finished this commissioned artwork the week before I left for #Regina. I thought you might be interested in the process.... I posted a couple of pics showing the development of the artwork. I start with a grid and draw out the image in black values, I add a middle, dark values to “key” the painting. Then I start adding many layers of color. Normally I add my own #doorhardware to the painting, but in this case, my client had her own key to personalize the painting even more! I’m super happy with the view she selected for this final #artpiece as it encapsulates all the stories of her husband.... he loved to create beautiful flowers arrangements.
