THE DEATH OF SLIM SHADY (COUP DE GRACE) - The Album

Yesterday (04/25/2024), Eminem & his team announced his 12th studio album titled "THE DEATH OF SLIM SHADY (COUP DE GRACE)", to be released this summer of 2024! I don't know about y'all, but I'm very excited for it.

As of now, it is unknown if this album will be followed by a tour or not. He hasn't toured following his albums (specifically North America since he favors Europe & Australia for some odd reason...) since either Recovery or TMMLP2. He did do a joint tour back in 2014 with Rihanna, however. Though there is still hope that he might do a tour since it's been a decade that he's performed in North America.

Now... There is a possibility that this could be his last album. And by last album I don't mean as in retirement because he'll never retire; He's always working - Whether it be at the studio doing a verse/feature, producing beats & songs, working with his signees, doing record label executive things, making appearances, investing his money, or working on his restaurant Mom's Spaghetti. He's a celebrity, he'll never technically retire and music is quite literally his life.

Also, we must all be realistic... He's 51, soon to be 52 later this year. He's been doing this professionally as a career for almost 30 years. He has the fame, the money, the respect, the power, the awards, and the recognition. He will not be out here touring, doing shows, yelling into a mic, and rapping forever. That's just the harsh reality of it all. He's a human at the end of the day just like the rest of us. And I hate to say this, but it's been proven true many times by "GOATS" or "Legendary" people: There comes a time where you have to willingly stop - You must know your limits. You can either take a step back voluntarily with all your respect, greatness, and contribution still in tact; OR you can keep going, being forced to step back eventually by getting clowned on, disrespected, exposed, and nobody will respect you and only think of you in a negative light. We've all seen the countless celebrities this has and still is happening to. In this day & age it's inevitable. Only a select few can take that risk and actually remain legendary no matter what. And while I'd hope Marshall is one of them, we don't know if that will be the case.

Regardless of all that, one of the main reasons why I think this could possibly be his last albums is simply because of the title. It called "The Death (- of Slim Shady)". Usually when something or in this case when someone dies, it's the end of them forever. They're not coming back, the curtains have drawn, its over. Done. So is this a farewell to the music? Maybe.

The second half of the title that I want to discuss is "COUP DE GRACE". Coupe de grace is a french phrase, meaning "A final blow or shot given to kill a wounded person or animal." In this case, that would be Slim Shady, AKA Marshall Mathers. This could solidify that this is the final album. It would be compared to the "final blow" or final hit, speaking in terms of music. I suppose no one will really know unless he explicitly says so, but only time will tell depending on if he ever releases again after this.

Hey, maybe this isn't his last album afterall. Maybe it is all one big metaphor! He could be talking about his persona - Perhaps Slim Shady is the only one retiring and is dead, but not him. Keep all that I said previously about the title & visuals of the teaser in mind as I explain this. This could mean a whole new era of music that is just beginning!

He's had this alter ego going since he was first discovered in 1997, and even before then according to him and D12 members. 30 years of having an alter ego is a very long time; That's considerably a majority of his life. Especially when you've grown so much personally, as a man, as a father, career wise, and in life as a whole. He may not relate to Slim anymore. He may not want to be him anymore. He's no longer this young guy in his late 20s/early 30s who is in his prime, acting like an absolute jackass with no care in the world. He's no longer out here dissing his (ex) wife, doing drugs, having sex with groupies, being abusive/toxic, acting a fool on stage, embarrassing himself, raging out with anger issues, getting arrested left & right, talking about killing people, murder, rape, guns, and violence. He's just not. He is a 51 year old family man now. He is the father to three grown, beautiful ladies that he's incredibly proud of, and who are proud of him. He spends his day cheering on his favorite football team, the Detroit Lions, is 16 years sober, and he's focusing on what makes him happy these days. Do you really think he's able to tap into that evil persona as an alter ego still? The only correct answer is no. Marshall Mathers is no longer Slim Shady. They can't relate anymore. So I strongly believe that he's giving that final blow/shot to him, and is killing the Slim Shady era - Ultimately resulting in the death of slim shady.

Whichever it is (or if it's both), I can't wait to hear it!

Here is Paul’s (Eminem’s manager) latest IG post. So, clearly, Em will be in attendance and is more than likely the surprise Roger Goodell was hinting at 😉.

In this one, they talk about 8 Mile. To me, that’s a clue that Em will be performing Lose Yourself. After all it is a classic and often played at Sports events so, more than appropriate 😉

Oh I’m about to go in depth with the tea. I might make it an entire post and then send the link here bc it’s going to be VERY long.

But that’s also an option that maybe he was busy doing album things. From what I’ve seen with other artists and stuff that “might” be on the album, it’s nowhere near done. It seems like he either might’ve just started a few months ago or is only 50% completed. Which also sorta leads me to think it’ll be released later in the year around the winter months? But I hope he goes on tour for it lol. I’m already saving my money for however expensive the tickets for I’ll be as it’ll probably be his last one if he does. Because unfortunately, the last time he went on tour in my city was with Rihanna and I was 12… so I wasn’t even old enough to attended 🙄😐. Sigh LOL

Do you also have info on the album ? Because I figured from Dre's Jimmy Kimmel interview that the album was "done" and someone (allegedly an insider) came forward and said that they're currently working on the Spotify and Apple Music approval process... I would like for the album to come soon, like may or june but, realistically, I'm thinking October or November ?

As for a tour, I am absolutely saving up money as well, just in case 👀. I agree that it might be his last tour, since he has been touring less and less. If there is a tour, I'm hoping for a few dates in Europe and, hopefully, France but he hasn't been here in a minute 😅. That being said, for him, I'm absolutely ready to do a bit of traveling 🙊

And I mean her concert was in the 20th tho… it’s the 25th. He can’t even say he chose the NFL over her bc it’s 5 days apart 😭 he just ain’t want to LOL.

And I’m pretty sure in the video or caption they said “we” would be there live at the draft so I kind of took it as Em being there as well. There’s also lots of promo for it and I could’ve sworn he said in a caption that he was going to be there (I did notice that the caption was changed and edited a few hours later tho soooo idk if that was supposed to be public info?)

But there’s a LOT of people announcing a pick with celebs and social media influencers so I’m sure he’d announce one too (not sure which one but). Also random fact, Hailie and Brit appeartly go to NFL drafts in Detroit often? They said in their podcast have been to the one in derelict previously and go whenever they can so maybe it’s like a normal thing for them and the fam except this time it’s public since Eminem will be in attendance too.

You're right, it's not like he actually had to choose an event over the other, like they were on the same date... I know it would be absolutely delulu on my part, but I'm also sort of hoping he didn't go because he is busy with his upcoming album 👀. I don't know what's left for him to do at that point, but I'm sure he's busy !

Tbh I don't know the first thing about NFL drafts. I only started following American football in the last year so it's my first time watching ! ☺️ Hailie and Brit do seem very involved in football-related activities, as the rest of the fam, so them attending makes sense !

It’s confirmed that he’s going to be there at the NFL draft as he’s said it himself. We just aren’t sure if he’s performing or not because another musician that’s less known, Brazzi, is performing as well. So maybe that’s who they were talking about performance wise but he could also be singing a few songs, which I don’t doubt and probably announcing a pick or two.

As for the album date, I don’t think there will be an announcement tbh. Maybe a day dbefire but our announcement is as that he’s making one and releasing it this year lol 😂 And it didn’t even coke from his mouth it came from Dre. That’s as close as we’ll get to an “actual announcement” I think.

And yea I agree with the Nicki comment. I don’t think they’re in the best of terms considering all her recent drama and how she stopped INCREDIBLY low and got exposed for lying about pretty much everything lol. That and also because he wasn’t in the album and she talks about how some people never got back to her about it… possibly him. And she didn’t publicly ask for anyone else to be there but him. Ice spice was there, JT, BIA, 50 cent, lil uzi, etc. and she didn’t ask them to show up publicly that I know of. So I don’t think she was able to contact Marshall and probably did so as her last resort, which he clearly ultimately declined.

I do personally think it’s a little shady from him tho 🤭 Just bc he’s going to the NFL draft a few days later, been out and about, and appeared at everyone else’s concert but hers 😂. Like I know she’s upset about that. And speaking of upset… I know they aren’t on the best of terms for the simple fact of music. The things that have been said in songs, on albums, etc, I don’t think they fuck with each other anyways! Nicki is very territorial for some odd reason and I don’t think after it all, she would work with Marshall anyways and he probably doesn’t want to. (I can go in depth on that too if u want lol)

So… Eminem didn’t end up performing at Nicki’s concert in Detroit like she asked, but he’s probably going to be doing so at this years NFL draft 👀 I figured that much. But could this be shady perhaps or am I just nosy lmao 🤣

Im not too sure why but I had no hope whatsoever that he would come out at Nicki’s concert in Detroit 😅. I just figured that if she had to publicly say she wanted him there, it meant that she didn’t really get to the talking point with him/his team 👀. I don’t know what their professional relationship is and whether or not they’re friendly, but it also sort of makes sense with Nicki’s most recent controversies and drama, that he would want to be kept out of it…

I do think there’s a huge chance of him being there at the Draft though 👀😉.

I mean :

- He partnered with the NFL for commercials

- He’s one of Detroit’s most prominent public figures

- Roger Goodell said on TV that people should tune in around 8 because there will be a surprise with a local celebrity that is also a national one 👀

Heyyyy ❤️. I’m sorry to disappoint but I have been giving it some thought and I think I’m not going to update Recovery anymore. Here is a picture of Marshall looking fine AF, in hope it makes the news easier to digest.

Ok, let’s not be dramatic, I’m just kidding 👀. BUT I’m not going to post Chapter 35. Not yet. Because… well because I have about 500 words so far. I’ve been going back and forth, trying to find ideas and the right words and it’s been a little challenging. That and the fact that I’ve been writing more HCs and one shots lately (and having a LOT of fun with it, might I add). ❤️

Also, life has been crazy lately, with mostly bad news, too, so I had to take a little step back as well. Around me, everything is full of stress, anxiety & grief and I’d rather take longer to write chapters than put out stuff I won’t be too happy with down the line 🤔. I Hope you understand ❤️.

I’d like to add that I’m usually not really gatekeeping my chapters. As soon as one is ready to be uploaded, I post it ☺️. HOPEFULLY (not promising anything) you guys will have Chapter 35 by the end of the week ❤️.
