i’m reading a very manly 1950s account of a hunt for el dorado but i’m thirty pages in and the narrator has already described his traveling companion as “handsome” 4 times, “extremely handsome” twice, “exceedingly handsome” once, his voice as “quietly husky” and “a husky whisper,” his fingers as long and deft, his body as “tall and cat-like,” and his eyes as some variation of ice-blue at least three times.

I love our age and time, because technology. I can feel deeply connected to a stranger on the other side of the world as easily as if they were on a bench at a bus stop next to me. And frankly, I like the anonymity of screens. No babbling, no stuttering, you can craft your sentences to express just what you mean and there's no body language to confuse you (because context from text is waaaay easier to understand than body cues)

Yes. Because I am both Hank and Connor, I have lived too much and too little at the same time and it feels really good to see people, even fictional ones, having a happy end. Because we all deserve one, as broken as we are.

you see, one of the appeals of hankcon (for me anyway) is that hank isn’t traditionally attractive. he has a gut and scars and old tattoos; he’s got wrinkles and there’s character to his face and he’s unkempt. (to have a quick aside: i think people who say hank is gross are weirdos because clancy can fucking get it and that’s been true for me since Earth 2.)

then you introduce a new form of consciousness–a self-aware, self-determining android–and the conceit that this new consciousness’ conception of attraction would be determined by the parameters of desirability within human society is, frankly, absurd. then you put forth the idea that this new form of consciousness could have emotions outside of its programming. one of those emotions, obviously, could be love. that love would therefore not be determined by traditional attraction.

it’s nice. it’s nice to think about someone being loved like this. it’s nice that someone can drink too much beer and get a gut and maybe didn’t put enough sunscreen on their tattoo when they were young and they’re depressed so they didn’t shower that day and they don’t give a shit how they look because they’ve got three variations on one shirt and is at the age where society says you don’t get to be attractive anymore, and then this super-intelligent advanced consciousness goes: yes. this one. this is the one i like.

There are a couple of things about current shipping culture that confuse me.  

1. The focus on whether or not a pairing will become canon as a reason people should ship something or not.  Do you not understand what the “transformative” part of “transformative works” means?”

2. This idea that saying “I ship that” means “I think that, as presented in canon,this is a perfect, healthy relationship that everyone should model their relationship after.” 

Sometimes shipping something does mean that.  Sometimes shipping something means “Person A is a trash bag who doesn’t deserve person B but I would love to explore how Person A might grow to deserve Person B.” Sometimes it means “I want these characters to live together forever in a conflict free domestic AU.”  Sometimes it means “I want Person A to forever pine after Person B.  Nothing is beautiful and everything hurts.”  And sometimes it just means you like their faces and want to see Person A and Person B bone in various configurations and universes.

This so many times, in so many fandoms.

Characters and actors aren't the same people. Dammit, I can even have several ships with the same character!

Fanart is all about the "what if"s of a creation. What makes our communities so alive and interesting is the mix of fanon, headcanon and interaction with the persons who gave life to our beloved characters. It's very real but only in our imagination.

I'm not religious, but I am spiritual, I guess. And all these characters, these possibilities, they are all very real to me, because WE gave them life by believing in them, by playing them.

Actors and writers make us the honor of gifting us their characters and stories to make them better, bigger than life. It's incredibly disrespectful to be rude to them for that, and yes Star Wars fandom, I'm looking at you among others.

As fans, we aren't owed anything other than not being taken for imbeciles, insulted or having our privacy invaded, which is basic decency. Our only duty is to act the same way towards these people who made loving these characters doable in the first place.

I just wanted to say - that no matter how much HankCon means to me, keeping the shipping away from the actors that play these fictional characters and respecting them means more. They’re real people, with real lives - separate from any fandom.

There’s just no excuse whatsoever to disrespect Bryan’s and Amelia’s wedding by involving ships, mistaking the actors for their characters.

These two beautiful people have invited the entire fan base into their lives lovingly and in turn we should respect them back. They support us, our ideas, ships and what not. Bryan even openly supports HankCon in his own way.

Seeing QTE edits of actual wedding photos where Bryan has the option to “escape with Hank” makes me disappointed. I’m not going to link it or reblog because I don’t want to spread it. I understand it was made as a joke without any intended harm but I still find it distasteful.

While I believe these high-profile people are good at keeping a certain self-distance, I still think Amelia could possibly be hurt. And so Bryan in turn would be hurt, for her, because he loves her. And in turn, you’ve directly harmed the person you admire. Even if the case would not be so, it is still rude.

Today, I:

-ordered a wig for Aggretsuko

-cried when my fiancé petted my hair in his sleep because I'm touch-starved and I'm actually wondering if I don't have a slight case of PTSD from my childhood (that is apparently a prime example of child abuse, but I still have a hard time acknowledging it)

-nearly cried because I saw pics of the Avengers cast and they all seem to genuinely care for each other and I only dream of participating to something that big

-which led to the realization that I don't have a friend close enough that I could ask them to be a witness at my wedding if we decided to do one

-more crying, but inside. So I just spent some time staring at nothing and feeling sorry for myself while trying to ignore my self-harm intrusive thoughts

-failing

-more feeling sorry for myself, because I'm just a lil bitch

-I did play some Trials fusion, no idea why I like this game but I do.

Try again

Cosplay.

Cosplay really appeals to me because of my anxiety disorder and social... well, lack of social skills. I dyed my hair turquoise so I could hide behind it, and being, playing someone else sounds aaaawesoooome.

So I'll try again. I have some ideas! I really really want to cosplay Retsuko/Aggro, and try my hand at rp-ing some of the Potter cast bur I have to get over my self-consciousness. I'm big. Cosplaying is capturing the essence of a character to convey it, you don't need to have their body type because you're just a canvas to paint on, but it's really to let go of a lifetime of "you can't do that, you'd be ridiculous"

I also wanted to build an armor, the Millwood Knight set from Dark Souls 3, but the price of resin was blocking me. Well, a friend who's making a Mandalorian armor told me about expanded PVC! I really really want to do it... because reasons.

So I guess I'll try again. And again. Just like college (which I'm failing, fucking kill me already...) I guess the only failure happens when you stop trying.

Having a kid who doesn't fitt the norm is not bad luck. It's all the entitled neurotypicals out there who make it bad : y'all might be the majority (and I actually doubt that) but it doesn't mean that you shouldn't make some room for neuroatypical people!

Bad luck would be having a heavily handicapped kid and only in the sense that no parent wants to see their kid in pain.

An autistic kid just requires you to actually pay attention to them and treat them as a person, can you imagine?!!!

(Also, from what I heard, the Heir is an awesome kid and I will fight you if she needs back-up)

This weekend someone use “bad luck” and “misfortune” to talk about me having an autistic kid.

Let’s just say that I made that relative apologise. And, luckily, said kid wasn’t near us and didn’t heard that kind of crap.
