It would be a little funny if it wasn't upsetting, I keep forgetting just how disabled I actually am and it's only when I'm really getting into a project or activity that I remember, "oh that's right, I'm disabled and this really fucking hurts", and then I have to stop to let my body recover long enough to be able to do something else. I was happily knitting away on my beaded lace shawl, only to realise the weight of the glass beads is pulling on my hands and wrists no matter what position I have my arms in. So I only got two rounds in and had to put it away. Now I can't do anything other than just, sit here, alone in the library, no one to talk to, nothing to do that doesn't hurt, resisting the urge to cry. I hate being disabled, I just want to be able to do things that bring me joy.

Back to working on this shawl now that I got more beads, it's starting to get heavy with all the glass beads especially now that the big beads are being used, almost finished though! But the rounds take quite a while to actually do so it may be a while before it's actually finished.

I might regret this because I don't know how large this shawl is going to end up. I feel like the dyer underreported the yardage on these... I'm hoping she did. If it makes enough to go around my neck in a jaunty little knot I'll be happy.

The pattern is Varde from the 52 Weeks of Shawls book. The yarn is a semi-local dyer. The colorway is called cantaloupe. Isn't it though??

I really can't do anything brain related at the moment. Socks it is then. Tried shadow wraps for the heel stitches. Not convinced yet (you can still see small holes in the corners), but had fun trying it and it still looks better than my regular heel stitches in german short row heels. She still looks gorgeous and is very much giving Pat Benatar.

first sweater done!!

Finished another pair of gloves last week, this time in dark brown leather from ItalianSkins and sewn up with some olive green silk thread that was a very lucky thrift store find. (It was in a mixed baggie and I didn't know it was silk until I got home!)

In my glove video I mentioned wanting to re-draw my pattern so the fingers are angled in more tightly, and so the thumb piece is longer, and I did that for these. The thumb fits much better, and the bases of the fingers are no longer too loose.

I also tried the straighter style of fourchettes, but didn't like them as much as the V shaped ones. I think the curved edges put a bit too much material onto the backs of the fingers and made them wrinklier. (Though this particular leather is not the stretchiest, so it may be better with a stretchier one.)

I did 3 rows of feather stitch on the back of the hand, since I'd seen that on an extant pair and thought it looked nice. I used a regular needle for that part because I was worried a leather needle would damage the thread.
