Indefinite Hiatus

This is a long time coming but this blog is going on indefinite hiatus. The OC community is not the same welcoming place it was when I joined and frankly I don’t have the patience to deal with this bullshit anymore. This year was the year I was supposed to forge friendships that would last, the year I was supposed to prepare myself for dealing with the real world and becoming independent without relying on the internet for escapism. 

But this isn’t even escapism anymore. This feels like I’ve traveled back in time four years and I’m back in high school. 

I understand that some members may be younger than me and if it was just them then I wouldn’t bother, but I know people my age and older who are acting this way and I can’t deal with this bullshit anymore. It’s gotten the point where if I try to curate my own online experience, I end up blocking half the people in my dashboard and I don't want to do that. 

But even beyond that, the way this community responds to even the slightest disagreement or attempt to compromise needs to change. The way the OC community is built has allowed for a “my way or the high way” mindset, which only serves to divide us further. In a world with seven billion people it’s impossible to please everyone or curate an experience specifically geared toward one person without leaving several others out. You have to have the self-awareness to know what you're getting into and you have to be able to step back and ask, “how is this affecting other people?” or “am I being unreasonable?” You have to be open to be a part of a community and unfortunately this community is anything but that. 

What once was a nice place to make friends and celebrate OCs has turned into a toxic swamp of backstabbing, baseless accusations, and selfishness. And I refuse to take part in it anymore. I made a promise to myself that I would be better, that I am trying to be a better person, and right now the only way I can do that is to leave this community. 

If I make posts they are for me and the select few I know will enjoy them, and they won’t be on here anymore. No more taglists, no more ask games, and unless I’m already talking to you, don’t try to message me. I’m not perfect, I know that, and this isn’t to flaunt some moral superiority complex, this is me taking a toxic part of my life and cutting it out.

Happy trails and have fun in your echo chamber I guess.

Okay okay I know this is slightly open but I trust your judgement and vibes — how do you think Emma would get along with any of my gilmore girls ocs?

Oooooh okay, so I had to take a moment to think about this because I know how much effort you put into your Gilmore OCs.

The ones I ultimately settled on that Emma would be definite friends with (aside from her doppelgänger Elle Hearst) are:

Willow Dell: THESE TWO WOULD BE BEST FRIENDS. They have similar interests and personalities, kind of Type A and doing everything they can, whether it's volunteering or different school clubs. They would also bond over their passion for art and pets, and Emma would turn to Willow when she needed to vent about Rory or Lorelai, which would be a lot.

Charlotte Howard-Danes: If there is one person in the world who loves Luke more than Lorelei, it's Emma and that extends to his family as well. I think Emma would be the kind of person to reach out to Char and be like "Hey, I know your mom sucks but I'm here if you need to talk about things" cause Emma is basically a mini-therapist for everyone in Stars Hollow anyway. Also, I think they'd be the epitome of a cat and a dog being best friends. Almost like Maeve and Aimee in Sex Education.

Ilsa Gilmore-Danes: Honesty, this is just born out of the idea that Ilsa needs a sister to actually look out for her, and Emma would 100% be there for her, especially because Emma hates Christopher and would rather hang out with her much cooler younger sister and make sure she's doing okay.

These are the big ones I can see Emma getting along with, although I wanted to add Kirsty in there, because they would also get along, although I believe she's on your "Hard No" crossover list so I didn't want to make a crossover that you might be uncomfortable with.

Other OCs I think Emma would get along with: Evan Mariano, Sage Hall

Artist, Writer, and Dreamer, Emma Gilmore’s got it all, until her twin sister gets accepted into Chilton and their mom has no choice except to reach out to their grandparents.

Suddenly Emma’s life is thrown out of balance, filled to the brim with Friday night family dinners, high expectations, and a brand new school with brand new people. It’s not the fun life-changing adventure Rory thinks it is, and Emma isn’t entirely sure there isn’t some ulterior motive behind her grandparent’s kindness toward her and her sister, but she’ll humor them for now. 

After all, she was a Gilmore Girl, and she would get through this. It’s what they do.

Reyka Kovacs is nothing if not ambitious, which often means she’ll go out of her way to accept a job if she thinks it’ll put her up higher on the corporate ladder, except working for Aleksander Morozova. 

Nicknamed “The Darkling” among the rest of the company for his sullen manner and uncanny ability to kill the mood almost instantly, Reyka would rather shoot herself through a canon than even think about spending a day with him, until newcomer Alina Starkov tells her that Aleksander fired her best friend from the company and wouldn’t tell her why. 

Angered on behalf of her friends, Reyka has no other choice but to march upstairs and demand better for her co-workers, a decision which leads to uncovering the deep dark secrets of her boss, as well as an adventure she never expected.

Josie Argent:

Her mom is Kate Argent but her dad is a mystery, the only person who knows is Gerard, which is part of the reason he treats her so horribly. Chris is definitely the father figure in her life and while she and Allison don't see eye to eye on a lot of things, Josie can't imagine her life without her. She's also an amazing hunter, although she prefers to use a crossbow and knives rather than a compound bow or a gun.

Mackenzie Parrish:

Mackenzie is a vanth! It's a super cool figure from Etruscan mythology. She's like a Fury, except instead of being vengeful, she guides supernatural creatures to the underworld in the event of their death. It's a lot like Bonnie in TVD when she became the anchor and in order to pass from this world, a supernatural creature needs to come into contact with Mackenzie and she has to be present the exact moment they die. It's super depressing but I love what I have planned for her. Also she and Derek went to high school together.

Margot Dunbar:

Margot is definitely the Lydia of the new trio. She's incredibly popular, dated the hottest and most popular guy before transferring to Beacon Hills High and is HELLA SMART, although you wouldn't know it by looking at her. In a fun little parallel to Stydia, Margot had the biggest crush on Mason when she was younger before he came out but even then she never cared, because it only strengthened their bond.

Soleil Yang:

Soleil moves to town the same year Liam transfers and almost immediately starts crushing on him. Her mom works at the local university studying and teaching occult sciences and the two are closer than sisters. No one really knows what happened to Soleil's dad, although her mom told her that he died in an electrical accident just after she was born. Soleil and Margot are best friends.

Once again, I am totally late to the party (something I desperately need to work on). But, I’m here now, and I have someone I want to introduce.

Meet Ashley “Ash” McKnight

One of the Pogues, Ash is known as the one who “lives for the hope of it all” so to speak. However, that doesn’t mean she’s had it easy. She lost her older sister, Gemma, in a shark attack that she witnessed. As a result, her parents completely ignore her presence.

Her aunt Olivia and uncle Milo have been trying to gain custody of her, so she can have more opportunities for a better life. But, Ash refuses to leave her friends behind.

JJ is like the big brother she never had, Pope is her bestie. Kie and her grew into a close friendship after Gemma’s death, while Sarah was the one who reached out for friendship first.

John B and her have been idiots in love since forever, and everyone’s sick of them (not really, everyone thinks they’re adorable).

Ash loves the ocean, but hasn’t been able to go in it since her sister’s death. She also loves turtles, which was what she and Kie bonded over. Kie’s parents got her a job at their restaurant, where she also hones in on her cooking skills.

OC HALLOWEEN CHALLENGE :: Buzzfeed Unsolved AU

Ryan: On January 26th, 2005 at 7:15 am, Mother of four, Talia Hale and her brother Peter Hale, awoke to the smell of smoke and their house crumbling around them. The youngest of the family, Derek and Olivia, were out at school, alongside their older sister Laura, and when they were excused just a few hours later, the entire house was burned to ash, eleven people dead, with no survivors except for Peter Hale.

Shane: He did it.

Ryan: Okay, no you can’t just say he did it.

Shane: he was the only survivor Ryan, of course he did it.

Ryan: would you let me finish? Peter was later hospitalized due to the severity of his burns and remained in a coma for six years--

Shane: Never mind, he didn’t do it.

Ryan: (wheeze) yeah no shit. There is one suspect that will be addressed though, and she-- she looks pretty suspicious.

Shane: Oh?

Ryan: Yeah, we’ll get into it more later but she started dating Derek just a few months before the fire and her family moved around all the time, and she herself had this weird fascination with the supernatural, it was a whole thing.

Shane: So what? This teenager obsessed with spooky stuff set her boyfriend’s house ablaze? What motive could she have for that?

Ryan: (grimace)....see that’s the thing, she wasn’t a teenager she was in her early 20s. and Derek wasn’t.

Shane:.....I’m going to kill this woman. She did it! you can’t change my mind now!

Ryan: See this was what I'm talking about! We’ll get into it more later, but it’s not a good look for her right now.

Shane: It’s not a good look for anyone to be dating a teenager when you’re twenty and then maybe burn their house down.
