Will there be a season 3?
~ Side note: these are just my thoughts and nothing official on whether or not there will be a season 3 has been released yet. ~
So it’s been 6 months since the Lolirock season 2 finale aired in France and still no word if the series will continue or not. My thoughts? It probably won’t.
Not that I don’t want to see a season 3, in fact I’d love to, I love the show. However, nobody (nobody in the big licensing world anyway) seems to be paying any attention to it, the last promotion was the live music video contest in Italy last year, and before that we did have a few kid’s fast food toys. Granted the French books and comics are still around so at least those are probably selling well, but other than that we’ve had nothing since season 2 came out.
Not to mention that we still don’t have an English version of the official website that we were promised way back in 2014, and not having your website in different languages really limits thousands of English or Italian or Spanish or Portuguese… etc. speaking newcomers who happen to find out about it from knowing more about the show. Not to mention that they only have YouTube channels in French and English despite the show and songs being dubbed into multiple other languages including Italian where the show is apparently very popular. (But if it’s really that popular you’d think making official content in that language would be a priority…)
Although merchandising and advertising can help franchises get big and grow, they aren’t everything, high ratings can also help a show. It’s hard to tell just how well LR is doing in that aspect, because they don’t seem to have the ratings online for us common people to see. (Or at least I couldn’t seem to find them. :P ) But I can’t imagine that they are very high when their big selling point for success is their website traffic.
But regardless of how well the show may or may not be doing ratings wise, there’s also the fact it has been 6 months since season 2 aired in France and 9 months since the whole season has been on Netflix. For a lot of shows long breaks in between seasons is nothing new, but if we take into account that the series still hasn’t been renewed, even ~if~ it was given the green light today, we probably wouldn’t see any new content in till around 2019~ish at the earliest which would turn that few months gap into a 2 years (or more) gap, which is practically unheard of and very rare in the cartoon world.
Even one of Marathon Media’s most popular/successful shows Totally Spies! only had a 9 month hiatus in between season 5 and the start of their spin off series “The Amazing Spiez!” and yet another 8 months between ending that show and airing Totally Spies!’s next season. (Not to mention that most of Marathon’s other shows only lasted for a few seasons each without large gaps in between seasons.)
So yeah, with the lack of advertising, merchandising, new/updated content and the what would be really long time in between seasons, I don’t think we will be seeing a season 3 after all. :(
(but you never know…?)
