What I got in the series 3 mini fashion capsule I bought today
Tumblr media
These earrings are pretty but the posts are very short and kept slipping out of of the doll's ear
Tumblr media
Gold press on nails and a gold bracelet
Tumblr media
The internet is telling me that this is an ankle bag 🤷🏾‍♀️
It's giving ankle monitor to me but whatever
Tumblr media
And here's the purse. It looks like the zipper should work but it won't budge and I don't want to break it.
I've seen two other collectors on YouTube get this bag and they couldn't get the zipper open either.
So it's not supposed to open or it's poorly constructed. Still a cute bag though. I like the chain detail strap.

I finally bought myself some “Mini Fashion” mystery balls and in one I got two of the “ultra rare” items: this gold Dior replica and the Tiffany box in one ball. I’m not too sure these are actually any kind of rare or anything. Probably will not get more because mystery bags are not my thing and I got the Tiffany box for Robin that I wanted. Unless these go on super discount😆

Ok so there's been some confusion around the new Mini Brands Fashion (series 3) and I'm here to share my discoveries. The videos and photos I've seen from American collectors show a collection with 60+ minis to collect, whereas the ones I bought yesterday here in Australia have 80+ to collect. The thing the American ones are missing? Shoes. One pair in every capsule.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Honestly the shoes really make this set for me, they all look really nice. Some are made of plastic (similar to most Barbie shoes) with real laces, some are a leather-like material with plastic soles, and the strappy heels have different materials like fuzzy fabric, ribbon or tulle added to them.
And they're pretty suitable for Barbie dolls. I tried them on an original MTM body and a curvy MTM, and they're a bit loose on the original but fit quite well on the curvy! Which is cool, since curvy-sized shoes are kinda hard to come by where I live. Here are some comparison photos, the leg on the left is original body, the one on the right is curvy.
Tumblr media
Out of all the shoes I got, the exception to that was the red leather boots (pictured further below with the red bag), which have thicker fabric around the top. I found it hard to get them on and off an original body, and couldn't get the curvy foot in there without risking damaging the shoe.
Some of the shoes balance well enough for the doll to stand alone, particularly the flat shoes or ones with shorter heels. I tried some on Rainbow High and Monster High G3 and they were too small. They fit the newer Miraculous Ladybug dolls but they're a bit loose.
Another thing is how the sets are sometimes colour co-ordinated. Like with previous series, the accessories aren't random; depending on the bag you get, there are different set combinations of accessories that will go with it. And in the capsules I opened, a lot of the accessories were picked to match the colour of the bag. That made them a lot of fun to open up.
I got 16 capsules and 1 was a duplicate. Here are the photos!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So if you're looking to collect series 3 and you want the shoes, keep an eye out for the capsules that say 80+ instead of 60+ to collect.
More information and observations under the cut.
I didn't get a photo of the capsule before I opened them all, but I got mine for $10 each from Kmart, which is the same price as the previous series (usually $12 at other stores but I've only seen series 3 at Kmart so far). They were displayed in boxes of 12 which didn't have a sample collectable displayed in a little window.
The American ones I've seen seem to have a sheet of press-on nails in every capsule, and I assumed that was how they were going to replace the stickers from series 1 and 2 but still keep the price down. But for the capsules I opened, the thing you got in every one was a pair of shoes. A single shoe seems to count for one of the five surprises, so each capsule contains one bag, two shoes and two other accessories (a pair of earrings counts as one).
I guess my main issue with some of them is that the leg part is on a bit of an angle instead of pointing straight up, so you get a bit of stretching/wrinkling if you try to stand the doll straight.
Tumblr media
Oh and some of them don't have as much detail as they do in the photos from the collector's guide (like the thigh-highs and short tan boots) but I'm not too bothered by it.
I'm also not game to try and thread the straps on the blue fuzzy heels through the buckle, the hole looks very small and I feel like I'd strip off some of the fluff trying to squeeze it through. So I'm not sure how that one would go, even as a collectable for display instead of as a doll accessory.
The pink flats in the last photo aren't a great fit on Barbie, they're very long compared to the doll's foot. The strap is supposed to fold up and wrap around the ankle, which was a bit awkward to try and do right.

The Chelsea-fication continues!
Tumblr media
While at Five Below, I got to see a Zuru Sparkle Girlz Mini and a Zuru Glitzeez Mini in the same context. The Glitzeez gal, who I bought on my last trip, is clearly a Kelly clone, similar in proportions to the old Sparkle Girlz Minis. Now look at the new Sparkle Girlz Mini! She's taller, thinner, and generally proportioned more like Chelsea.
Had their been a non-white gal in stock, I would have considered whether the face-up is cute enough to have one as a sample of the size difference. I'm leaning no, but sometimes the darker gal is prettier.
More tempting (though I still resisted) was a Sparkle Girlz-like entry at about 6 inches tall. Look at that articulation! I see knees and wrists, so I'm assuming elbows, too.
Tumblr media
While she has a very Sparkle Girlz face-up, her brand is Brooklyn Lollipop, which is a distributor of various imported goodies. Their web site shows a bunch of "girls' toy" brands, but not Zoe.
Tumblr media
Brooklyn Lollipop turns out to be the distributor of Sophie, who's living the standard fashion-doll lifestyle with variants as rock star, princess, dog walker, and baby sitter or teacher.
Sophie has brand extensions! The one I want to see in person is Sophie Sixteen, which has nothing to do with Sophie being sixteen. It's largely Evi Love-style 4.5" dolls living an Evi Love-style life (dog-walking, slumber parties, long drives in the car), plus one 6" girl with a horse.
I was at Five Below (as well as Walmart and Target) because I was looking for Ken fashion packs. Having just one Ken, I immediately want him to be well-dressed. He's currently wearing a flannel shirt from an excellent fashion pack I bought at Cliff's Hardware in the Castro back in 2016.
Current Barbie and Ken fashion packs are mostly trash. The quality makes the mid-2010s Sparkle Girlz fashion packs look like haute couture. Everything is just a loose whatever, with the hems serged. If I could find thin 2-way stretch fabric, I could sew this crap in less time than it takes to neatly open a store-bought package. Plus Ken's job apparently is Beach, as forget long pants! So I will be watching YT tutorials on how to make sweaters out of socks, and reupping my neglected pants-making skills. Ken deserves better than this.

I wasn't going to get any of the Zuru Mini Fashions but when I saw them in person at the store I caved. I hate blind packs. But the little bags are truly nice. I'd like to try making 1/3 scale versions myself. (Edit: I did also get a dog in one of these sets, but the kids stole it immediately.)
I haven't seen anyone else mention this yet but my perfume has a strong perfume scent. Everything is so detailed.
Tumblr media
They were in a standing display. Looks like maybe someone tore off part of the front of the display ... was there a bag in there?? Sigh.

Since my first post I've found all the bags and accessories except the rare ones, so here's more photos to complete the set.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And I have enough doubles to say with confidence that every bag comes with four specific accessories; there's no variation. I assume the rare bag will come with all the rare accessories as well. So if you find all the bags, you should have all the accessories as well! I much prefer that to what they did with series 2, I wasn't able to find all the pieces from that one.
Most of these new shoes fit Barbie as shown in my first post, but here's a comparison for MTM original (left) and MTM curvy (right) for the black sandals. Like with the strappy heels, the doll's toes don't poke out very far. They're a tighter fit on the curvy but also less likely to fall off.
Tumblr media
But it's weird, right? Unless the 60+ (shoeless) capsules were made because of regulations in certain countries, what's the point in making a separate version with fewer pieces? Even if they do release the 80+ ones in the US at some point, there are still people who would have spent considerable amounts of money trying to collect the bags, who then might feel pressured to spend even more money after learning that they missed out on the shoes. Not to mention, I got them for AU$10 each which is less than US$7 at the current exchange rate, but they're being sold at Target US for US$10, so you're spending more money for an inferior (imo) product. It just doesn't sit right with me and I feel bad for the people who were misled by things like Target displaying the wrong product information.

Happy lunar new year! My Walmart had a sidekick of mini fashion s2
Tumblr media
I went through them all to find the heaviest cause want the luggage. So let’s see
Tumblr media
Ok wth I thought they fixed the wrapper stupidness. S1 was a nightmare to peel because it shreds like this, but Foodie doesn’t, yet here this is shredding so idk
Tumblr media
Hurray luggage! And it’s even red how fitting! What else we get?
Tumblr media
A ring, towers, and idk what that is. Eh s’ok.
S2 might have less purse styles I’d like, but it’s got more accessory options and variety so idk say it’s better than s1. Plus the luggage was the primary want and is kinda easier to sus out so win.

I am a doll collector (though I’m trying to get out of it), and a toy collector, and LOVE miniatures and am a sucker for blind pack toys.
Zuru just came out with Mini Fashion, which are fabric, Barbie-sized purses with small cosmetic accessories. They’re about $10/ball.
There aren’t many accessories available, the fabric bags with real chain details are the real draw, here. But, any doll collector that’s been in the business for a while knows that vinyl and faux leather will peel and chip after some time (all of my Doll heart brands BJD shoes have fallen apart over the years, for example) and these bags won’t last forever. I do wish more of them were just fabric.
I’m also stuck at home for the most part and have to buy most things online.
Amazon has a listing for them https://amzn.to/3AbrXM3, but...
Tumblr media
It’s a pre-order, you have to buy 2 For $19.99, and
Tumblr media
Jan 2023????
Tumblr media
They’re already out at Target, and Target.com has some for order.
But, again, you can’t just order one or two and call it a day.
Tumblr media
They won’t ship them at all unless you spend at least $35 all together on your order.
Annoyingly for me, these are in stock at my “local Target, which is a half-hour drive away, I don’t have a car, and the streets are all icy anyway, or I could just go get one in person.
My dolls don’t tend to carry/hold bags and I don’t use prop accessories with them or photograph them, really.
I want ONE ball just to get to open one.

A wild "curvy" clone doll appears!
Tumblr media
Curvy Barbie has a clone!
This is important, as it means that Curvy Barbie is very likely part of the cultural zeitgeist at this moment and a specific thing that buyers want. That's a triumph for inclusivity.
So after saying I could find a Barbie within 20 minutes' drive, I wanted to go to that. I also wanted to go to the Walmart at the far end of the next town because it supposedly had the hair dye color I was looking for (spoiler: that was the one color they were out of).
I started the car in my driveway at 10 minutes to 2 pm (13:50). Driving by my normal route, with no effort at haste, and encountering a parking lot like one of those "move the blocks" games, and having to figure out where the toy section was because I don't go to this Walmart, I was standing in front of a display of Barbies at 11 minutes after 2 (14:11). That's 21 minutes, and I passed other likely retailers (even the godawful Rite Aid closer to home had three Barbies, three Chelseas, and three packs of Barbie tennis dresses).
Tumblr media
While browsing the Barbie-adjacent rack where Sparkle Girlz used to live, I first picked up this gal, thinking "wow, those pants make her proportions look different."
I was delighted to discover that her proportions are different. I was also trying to figure out what's up with the brand, as this isn't the maker I recall for Sparkle Girlz, and it's not the later Zuru brand that some people refer to with SG. (The Zuru link is a Mini -- I still have quite a few original Minis, though their hair is less exciting.)
To complicate matters, two distinct makers produce fashion dolls marketed as Hairmazing. (And Walmart helpfully had dolls from both thrown in the same bin.)
One Hairmazing comes from Xtreme Play of Minneapolis, which has it all for your clone needs. Princesses, mermaids, fairies, multiple styles of minis, collections of gals who are sophomores at Reinbeaux High, quasi-realistic horses, and unicorns from Ekwestria... they've hit every fantasy trend.
The other Hairmazing comes from Just Play of Boca Raton. This is the Hairmazing of the swimsuit dolls. They provide a product-line photo that gives me hope, as I'd thought about buying our curvy clone just because a curvy clone is cool, but I dislike the plastic quality, the hair quality, and the face-up.
Tumblr media
There is a Black curvy version! She has natural hair with purple highlights!
This Hairmazing also has its own different lines of Reinbeaux High students, Ekwestria unicorns, princesses, minis, and so on.
But Walmart no longer has the Black curvy gal on their web site. Oy.
A look at the secondary market suggests this line has been around a couple years (there's a solid 5 years when I didn't look at fashion dolls at all). The pics on eBay show an ambiguously brown curvy gal with maroon hair and a Black curvy gal with pink hair and a great face-up... but oh maaaan, the plastic quality, face printing, and hair quality looks bad. I'm going to hold off and see what hits the thrift stores, now that I know what to look for.
Should you feel two Hairmazing brands aren't enough, I did find a third, Hairmazing by Hairdorables, which look like what'd happen if Bratz went to Reinbeaux High.
